It Was a Good Day
Okay, you’ll have to wait for the pics of the park and the chicken soup recipe because I just got home from having a GRAND time at The Foundry, Denton’s center for all things artsy and creative. Tonight they hosted a fundraiser for Empty Bowls, a group that raises money for food related charities. Basically, I paid to paint a bowl, they will keep it and fire it in a kiln, then I’ll pick it up at the Caroline County Culinary Arts Center and receive a free pint of soup. The culinary center also runs Shore Gourmet where anyone can pop in for amazing baked goods, soups, prepared meals that you take and reheat, and more. We’ve had several meals from Shore Gourmet and they’re always fabulous. So I made my donation, painted my bowl, had good conversation and lots of laughs with a bunch of ladies I don’t know, and came home feeling happy. Bonus, in a couple of weeks I get my bowl back and some yummy soup. I’m going to start signing up for more classes at The Foundry and maybe make some friends. It’s such a fun place, and usually people who gather to make art together are good souls. I mean, the young woman running the event played DEAN MARTIN for background music. It was like the universe telling me I’d found my spot. So, hooray for today! In other news, look at these cute stickers I printed. I’m going to get serious about finding a home for my cards and earrings and whatever else I make. I can’t just keep making stuff and storing it. I decided to just own my split personality, I’m thinking I’ll need a matching floral banner if I ever do crafts fairs.
As I was sitting at my desk today admiring those stickers, my eyes fell on this ornament. I made one for my sister and one for myself. The “Our Hour” is a nod to the roller skating variety show we staged on our carport as kids. It’s a shame you missed it. Lots of music, jokes, and very slow spins on skates.
After taking the tree down I hooked it on a drawer knob of my desk. It makes me smile. When the grandgirl was here she noticed it and was studying it pretty closely. I said, “That’s Grancy and Aunt Cathi when we were little girls.” She responded, deadpan, “I recognized your hair.” I can’t get a break. She asked me once, “Has your hair always been fluffy?” Now she’s seen the proof.
Want to hear something exciting? I’m going to Easton tomorrow to choose the color for the kitchen cabinets!!!
I’m going to disappoint some people by saying that I’m sticking with a cream color. I mean, look at these!
Right now I’m eyeballing Benjamin Moore’s Winter Wheat, Navajo White, and Gentle Cream. Originally I’d thought I’d get light granite, but I’m loving these darker counter tops. I had dark counters in Tennessee and I don’t hate ‘em. I’d love something that looks like soapstone. At this point I’ll take what I can get, but I’m dreaming and scheming. And speaking of dreaming and scheming, I’m starting to draw out some garden plans for spring. It’s closer than you think! I’m devoting my garden spaces to flowers and herbs - that’s it. I can buy everything from tomatoes to watermelons on every corner here, I’m exiting the tomato growing business. Basil, dill, thyme, oregano, mint...that’ll be in my garden, for sure. I’m hoping to plug in mostly perennials around the house - rudbeckia and that sort of thing. It’s Maryland’s state flower - surely it’ll do well.
I’m being paged to watch a new Dateline with the mister, so I’ll wrap this up. I’ll leave you with a quick shot of the path I walk at Martinak. Even in the winter, with bare trees, it’s lovely.
Alright, see ya’ tomorrow. I’ll bring the chicken soup. I’ve got the photos (not great ones) so I’ll get those in order and post the recipe. I make a pot of this nearly every week and Mickey loves it. I know that’s a pretty low bar, because he’ll eat anything I put in front of him, but he does request that I make it. I hope that you’re cozy and content on this January evening. I’m already in my flannel jammies and under a blanket, it might even be a popcorn night. Walkin’ on the wild side. Sending out love and hugs. Stay safe, stay well, stay warm.

Unique Christmas Decor Ideas to Impress Your Guests This Holiday
The holiday season is just around the corner, and it's time to start decking the halls. Whether you're hosting a family dinner or a festive party, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere is key to making your home stand out. In this blog, we share some unique Christmas decor ideas that will leave your guests in awe. These tips and tricks are perfect for creating a festive ambiance while reflecting your personal style.
Why Christmas Decor Matters
Your Christmas decorations set the tone for your holiday celebrations. Thoughtfully chosen decor can transform your home into a winter wonderland that radiates joy and warmth. By incorporating innovative and personalized Christmas decor ideas, you can create an unforgettable experience for your loved ones.
Unique Christmas Decor Ideas to Try
1. Create a Statement Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is the centerpiece of any holiday decor. Instead of the traditional red and green ornaments, try a unique theme to make it stand out.
Opt for a monochromatic color scheme like gold and white for an elegant look.
Use natural elements like pinecones, dried orange slices, and wooden ornaments for a rustic vibe.
Add personalized touches such as family photos or handmade ornaments to make it truly special.
These Christmas decor ideas will ensure your tree becomes a conversation starter.
2. Decorate with Lights
Lighting can completely transform the mood of your home. Go beyond stringing lights on the tree and get creative with how you use them.
Wrap fairy lights around stair railings or place them in glass jars for a magical glow.
Use LED candles on mantels, shelves, or dining tables for a cozy ambiance.
Create an outdoor display with icicle lights hanging from your porch or garden trees.
Strategic lighting is one of the most effective Christmas decor ideas to impress your guests.
3. Focus on the Dining Table
The dining table is where everyone gathers to enjoy delicious holiday meals, so make it a focal point of your decorations.
Use a festive table runner or placemats featuring Christmas patterns.
Add a centerpiece, such as a floral arrangement with poinsettias, eucalyptus, or berries.
Incorporate mini wreaths or napkin rings with seasonal elements to elevate your table setting.
A beautifully decorated dining table ties together the overall festive look of your home.
4. Incorporate Natural Elements
Bringing the outdoors in is a timeless trend that adds warmth and charm to your holiday decor.
Decorate with greenery such as garlands and wreaths made of fresh pine, cedar, or eucalyptus.
Add wooden accents, such as log slices or carved figurines, for a rustic touch.
Use dried fruits, cinnamon sticks, and star anise in your decor to add a natural fragrance to your space.
These eco-friendly Christmas decor ideas are perfect for creating a cozy holiday atmosphere.
5. Decorate Unexpected Spaces
Don’t limit your decorations to the living room. Adding festive touches to unexpected areas can create a cohesive and joyful vibe throughout your home.
Hang wreaths on bedroom doors or windows.
Decorate your bathroom with holiday-themed towels or a small potted tree.
Add festive accents to your kitchen, such as holiday-themed dishware or a garland on open shelves.
These thoughtful details show your guests that every corner of your home has been dressed for the occasion.
6. DIY Christmas Decorations
Personalized and handmade decorations not only save money but also add a unique touch to your home.
Create your own ornaments using materials like paper, clay, or felt.
Make a custom advent calendar using envelopes, tiny bags, or jars.
Craft garlands using dried fruits, popcorn, or ribbons for a nostalgic feel.
DIY Christmas decor ideas are a great way to involve your family in the holiday preparations.
7. Choose a Unique Color Palette
Traditional Christmas colors are always beautiful, but experimenting with unexpected palettes can make your decor stand out.
Try pastel colors like blush pink and mint green for a whimsical look.
Use jewel tones like emerald, sapphire, and ruby for a luxurious feel.
Incorporate metallics like silver, gold, and bronze for a modern and chic vibe.
A fresh color scheme can breathe new life into your Christmas decor ideas.
Tips for Seamless Holiday Decor
Plan Ahead: Start your decorating early to avoid last-minute stress.
Keep It Balanced: Ensure that your decorations complement your existing interior design.
Add Personal Touches: Incorporate family traditions and sentimental items for a heartfelt touch.
Declutter: A clean and organized space allows your decorations to shine.
Conclusion
The holiday season is the perfect time to get creative with your home decor. By following these unique Christmas decor ideas, you can create a festive and inviting atmosphere that your guests will love. From a statement Christmas tree to DIY projects, there’s something for every style and budget.

- eren stopped immediately, kneeling in front of you on the bed, eyebrows knitted together as he looked down at you
- “the fuck did you just call me?”
- “what?” you asked “i said ‘baby, stop’”
- “you said jean,” eren said. “you play with jean like this?”
- eren was so serious and looked so mortified you couldn’t keep up the charade and pointed at your phone recording the whole thing from the nightstand.
- you could visibly see his tense muscles drop once he realized it’s another prank and then squinted at you. “you think you’re so funny, huh?” he asked while you started laughing
- he grabbed both your legs and pulled you closer, leaning down and capturing your lips in a heated kiss.
- oh no you’ve awaken possessive!eren enjoy the ride
armin
- you had just woken up, sharing the morning bliss with armin in your shared kitchen. he handed you the newspaper as he prepared coffee for both of you
- “levi, can you hand me my glasses, please?” you asked, trying and failing to read the newspaper in front of you.
- armin stopped in his motions and walked to you, who were sitting on the kitchen table. you looked up to him, confused. “my glasses, baby?”
- “you realize what you said, right?” he asked carefully. you cocked your head to the side, feigning ignorance.
- “i don’t know what you’re talking about.”
- armin stood still, his blue eyes on you as you could practically listen how loud his thoughts were at the moment, trying to see if you’re lying or if, in fact, he didn’t heard correctly the first time
- a minute goes by and he was still not moving, just staring at you and when his eyes started filling with tears you felt bad for him. “oh no, no, no, baby, it’s a prank,” you say, pointing at your phone.
- armin lets out a long sigh and hangs his head low. “you’re so mean!”
- go and hug your man please
mikasa
- mikasa and you were working on your backyard garden. mikasa was usually in charge of it but this time you loved whenever she let you join her
- “annie, could you pass me the trowel?”
- mikasa stopped in her movements and then turned her head to you. “annie?”
- “huh?” you asked. “what do you mean?”
- “you just called me annie” she said, sitting back on her heels, a noticeable frown on her face. she shook the dirt off her gloves and left them on the ground, standing up and turning to leave.
- “wait no, it was a joke for tiktok!” you say, grabbing her ankle and pointing at your phone that was propped on her tool box.
- “i’m out of here,” she sighed, rolling her eyes as she started walking again with you attached to her ankle
- “‘kasa, pleeeeeeeease!
jean
- you were cuddling with jean when he said he was going to the kitchen to get something to drink. he stood up and just as he was leaving the bedroom you called out for him
- “could you get me some snacks too, eren? thank you!”
- this mf went back on his tracks and looked at you like you had just insulted his whole family
- “you did not just call me eren”
- “what? i would never, baby, what are you talking about?”
- “no, stop, you just did,” he said, his voice breaking a little. “are you and eren… i don’t know- are you-?
- you didn’t have it in you to continue the joke, sprinting and colliding against him, pulling him into a hug
- “i’m so sorry, it was a prank! jean, baby, it was a stupid prank oh my god i’m so sorry-”
- anyway he was extra cuddly that night. reassure him he’s the only one, please.
levi
- sitting on your balcony and sharing tea with levi was one of your favourite habits
- levi was done with his cup and started pouring himself more tea from the little teapot that was in the table
- “armin-- i mean, baby, could you pour me more tea as well, please?”
- levi kept pouring the tea without reacting to your words and then poured some on your cup as well.
- “you’re spending way too much time with those brats,” he grunted, putting the pot back on the table and handing you your cup.
- “jealous?” you teased him with a flirty grin. levi rolled his eyes.
- “whatever helps you sleep at night”
- he sees you chuckling and suddenly the pieces fall together. “not another fucking tiktok prank,” he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
reiner
- you were cooking with him, stirring the pot as he chopped vegetables for the stew.
- “pock-- shit, reiner, could you pass me the carrots please?”
- you noticed reiner stopping for a moment. you prepared yourself for his response but instead he handed you the cup with diced carrots for the stew in silence.
- you poured them to the stew but he kept silent. “hey babe, wanna watch a movie while we have dinner?”
- “sure, sounds fun,” he replied with a small smile that doesn’t meet his eyes.
- your heart broke into a million pieces and you quickly went and hugged him tightly, pressing your face against his broad chest
- “reiner, it was a prank, oh my god, i’m so sorry.”
- you heard his sigh, the tension leaving his body as he wrapped his arms around you.
- (there’s a cut on your tiktok video and then a take of you peppering his face with kisses as an apology)
annie
- you were watching a movie with annie and lowkey getting bored, so you decided to pull the prank you had been preparing
- “‘kasa, the popcorn, please?” you said, your eyes locked on the tv screen as you moved your hand towards your girlfriend.
- she literally slapped your hand away
- “wha- baby!?”
- annie paused the movie and turned to you, arching her eyebrow. “you think you’re so funny”
- “what do you mean?
- “you know exactly what i mean. so this better be a joke or else-”
- “or else what?” you giggled, grabbing your phone and filming your girlfriend.
- she rolled her eyes and when you tried to crawl to her, she quickly used her leg and pushed you away.
- “no clowns allowed in my personal space.”
porco
- it was date night and you guys were in a diner, talking about your week and spending quality time together. so of course you decided to pull the prank you’d seen on tiktok
- “rei, could you pass the ketchup?”
- porco widened his eyes and put his burger down.
- “this better be a fucking tiktok prank,” he huffed
- “what do you mean?”
- “you just said ‘rei’ like i’m that dumbass- wait, no, where is it-,” porco says as he starts looking around for your phone.
- “HA!!!! i fucking knew it!” he goes as soon as he finds it hidden behind the salt shaker. you laughed as he grabbed your phone and started filming you.
- “what would you do if it wasn’t a prank?” you grinned.
- “well you better hope you brought your own ride because i’d leave you here,” he smirked, earning another laugh from you.

Do you have any headcanons on veterans x reader on quarantine lockdown headcanons. Baking, Reading, Exercising?
Ohhhh I have so many! Thank you for this ask ❤️ One of these days I’ll master the art of answering a head canon question quickly and with shorter answers. But today is not the day! There’s a few nsfw bits under the cut. This is over 3k words....how??
Mike
Mike is fond of long lay-ins, it’s what he lives for at the weekend. He loves you so much and enjoys nothing more than being comfy and snuggly under a duvet with you. Eating breakfast, watching Netflix, just chilling and enjoying one another’s company. So during lock down there’s gonna be a lot of time in comfy PJ’s lazing around in bed.
Mike loves cooking and cooking shows! The two of you have a date night once a week where you cook together. You always light some candles, listen to jazz and have a glass of wine or two while cooking. One week you try making your own sushi, the next it’s Jamaican curry, then it’s pizza night! Trying new things is something you both love (both in and out of the bedroom *cough* more on that later.
When restrictions are eased a little and you’re allowed to sit outside/drive for exercise, the two of you take a long countryside drive together and find a quiet secluded spot where you can sit and have a picnic and watch the clouds go by.
I see Mike as a guitar kinda guy, so he’ll teach you if you don’t play and if you do, the two of you will enjoy spending some time writing songs together and playing along to your favourite rock and indie tunes.
You enjoy watching live acoustic gigs and concerts which are being streamed by artists and comedians etc. Mike encourages you to get dressed up with him, you have drinks while watching and often end up dancing as if you were at a gig in person.
Binge listening to podcasts together ‘The Magnus Archive,’ ‘Welcome to Nightvale’ and ‘MaMbBam’ being favourites.
Star-gazing. Sitting outdoors at night, during the day the two of you will spend time in your garden but it’s night time you really enjoy it the most. Sitting outside on a blanket and with another over you, you make sure all the lights inside are turned off so you can enjoy watching the stars, moon, planets, satellites etc above you. You often have a glass of wine or a cocktail as you sit out there, sometimes you fall asleep in Mike’s arms so he’ll carry you up to bed.
Finally Mike is very good at giving you personal space, while he loves taking up new hobbies with you and spending time doing things you love together, he also knows you both need your space. It makes the time you do spend together so much sweeter.
Erwin
Even though you don’t need to go out to work, Erwin is still up early. When he wakes he showers and then prepares for the day by making you both a delicious breakfast. Think poached eggs, grapefruit, french toast, yoghurt and fruit etc. He likes listening to the radio over watching TV first thing in the morning so you have that on for a bit.
You enjoy daily workouts together (with Saturday or Sunday off). Erwin takes them unsurprisingly seriously, however, he does make them fun. The two of you will have little competitions with one another and Erwin creates a workout playlist for you - it’s an eclectic mix and includes songs that you both end up singing along to.
Erwin loves to play the Piano but due to his work he only usually touches it a few times a month if that. With lockdown he starts playing daily, there’s a few times when you wake up and he’s already practising - it really is beautiful. Sometimes if he knows you’re watching he may stop playing, or at least change what he’s playing to something you know so you can sing along or join in. If you’re quiet though you can stand in the door for 5-10 minutes without him realising and he’ll continue to play classical music.
As well as the home workouts you try to go out once a week for a run, as much as Erwin just wants to get on he would never leave you behind if you’re struggling to keep up and will wait for you (he’s a gentleman after all).
Canvas painting, sometimes Erwin struggles with getting out or showing his emotions, after doing virtual tours of art galleries online you suggest ordering a canvas, some acrylic paint and palette knives. It’s amazing the level of emotion you see pour out of yourself and Erwin onto the canvas, it’s incredibly therapeutic so you order more canvasses.
The two of you really enjoy binge watching documentary shows - you know the second Tiger King came out Erwin was all over that. There’s this side to Erwin that not everyone gets to see, or at least when they do it’s very rare. But during lockdown you get to experience it more frequently, he really does have a great sense of human and likes to have fun. While he enjoys documentaries about WW2, science (Unabomber: in his own words is also on the list) things like Tiger King, Dark Tourist and Louis Theroux docs are also a guilty pleasure.
The two of you will spend some evenings laying chess by candle light with a glass of whiskey.
Levi
I feel to say that you’ll be cleaning a lot is a little obvious and I actually think that for the most part Levi would prefer to crack on with that on his own - it gives him peace of mind and it’s something he has control over. He enjoys it
Together however, expect DIY Projects or painting/decorating. There’s things the two of you have talked about doing for ages and never gotten round to, now you have the perfect excuse. From painting a feature wall in your living quarters to making a little step wooden step ladder for the garden that you can put potted plants on. The two of you use your time to get creative around the home.
Dancing - the form of fitness you decide to take up is dance. At first Levi scoffs at the idea but then when he realises what a work out it actually is and how much strength and flexibility is required for some of the tutorials you’re following, he’s game. The two of you end up choreographing a dance together - it’s super cute (and hot in places - oops)
You’re the kind of couple others are jealous of because you just work so well together, spending the perfect amount of time doing things together and apart.
Being a lover of tea, Levi decides to educate you on the many different types by subscribing to a ‘tea lovers’ subscription box. You take the time to sit with him and really enjoy each tea, just talking with no noise from the radio or TV.
Levi likes to put together tapas or cheese tasting boards, he chooses the food for the main, you put together a starter or dessert and pick the wine that goes with the flavours he’s mixing. Together it’s like a perfect harmony. You set the table, light candles, listen to jazz and it’s almost as if you’re at one of your favourite restaurants.
Watching Horror movies, you’ve probably seen every horror movie on Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. which is available to stream come the end of lockdown. Horror was actually how you met, you were at the cinema to see ‘Hereditary’ and none of your friends wanted to come with you so you went alone. Levi and his friends (the other vets) were in the same screen and sat next to you. So now Levi is strangely sentimental about horror movies. There’s cuddling up under blankets in the living room and plenty of popcorn along with movie themed cocktails.
Video calls to your friends, you do more of the talking but Levi sits by you throughout and occasionally joins in. He’s loathed to admit it but he really likes seeing everyone’s faces and hearing their voices.
Moblit
Moblit has a large collection of puzzles, a few were completed when he was younger but a lot of them aren’t. He used to get frustrated with them but always wanted to finish them so he could frame them and put them up around the house. When lockdown happened you think it’s the perfect opportunity for the two of you to work on them together and help him out. Turns out it’s actually a lot of fun and a pretty good was
Baking! You both love the Great British Bake Off, before lock-down you were always talking about how you wanted to give the recipes a try but of course something else always came along. Now lockdown is the perfect excuse to order some ingredients online and get baking! The kitchen often looks like a mess, Moblit gets flour on his face and even in his hair? You don’t know how it happens but you have a lot of fun doing it and hey what you bake usually turns out pretty good.
Subscribes to Disney+ the second it comes out - and the two of you binge watch your favourite Disney movies singing along to them (I get the impression Moblit would be a huge Hercules and Moana fan).
Watching Avengers Infinity War together and later on in the evening he turns to you and just says, “I love you 3000.”
Bike rides through the countryside (as long as it’s close to home of course and you can stay safe!)
You watch art shows together (like the still life drawing classes on TV or Grayson Perry’s art class). Shows which have been made specifically now for lockdown to help inspire people to take up new hobbies. Both of you are pretty inexperienced at art or drawing so you have a lot of fun watching the shows, following the instructions and seeing where your hand and pencil lead you. You both end up discovering your own unique style of drawing - this inevitably ends up doing a still life of one another (more on this later).
Hange
Hange really struggles with lockdown, it makes them feel pretty anxious and they hate not being able to be out and about exploring/doing their job/learning new things etc. So Hanji needs quite a bit of love and looking after, care packages for the two of you go a long way so you order nice things in the early days of lock down. Hanji’s eyes light up when you hand them what you’ve ordered.
Loads of gaming, you both enjoying exploring other worlds along with fantasy so everything from World of Warcraft, Skyrim, The Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds to the Final Fantasy games, The Witcher and Assassin’s Creed are all up your street. Sometimes you play alone, sometimes you watch one another play while reading magazines. Often when playing WOW you play together and share a mount, heading into raids together and working as a team. It’s not as good as being outside and exploring the world for real but it’s pretty close.
Loads of movie marathons with enough sweets to make you sick, especially the gummy kind like Haribo.
Hange - Arguments over who loves who more, it’s usually in the middle of a TV show that you’ve been really invested in but now with the impending end of the world, it’s so easy to get distracted. The ‘arguments’ usually end up in pillow fights and just laying in one another’s arms in silence.
Home made science experiments - yup, you knew this was coming. There’s so much you can try at home with simple house hold ingredients. Hange also orders kits online so you end up growing your own crystals (not the drug kind lol), making your own ‘volcano’, making slime, dying flowers etc. At first you rolled your eyes when Hanji suggested it but actually it turns out to be a lot of fun and it’s pretty interesting, so you end up learning something. Hanji also orders DIY Sweet kits which are as fun to make as they are to eat.
When it comes to heading outside to clap for key workers the two of you are gonna be dressed up to make the children smile. You’ll be banging pots and pans or possibly have a kazoo or tambourine.
Nanaba
There’s loads of Gardening, it’s something the two of you always liked but found you didn’t have the time you needed to commit to it as much as you’d have liked.
Cuddling on the grass in your garden, rolling around enjoying the sunshine and sun-bathing side by side.
The work out of choice for the two of you is yoga. You light incense and some candles as well as listening to mediation music and just take some time out to be alone with your thoughts - together. You both agree that stretching really helps you especially where you’re working from home, it’s so easy to get back ache!
The two of you love dancing
Nanaba decides to take up quilting and crochet. It’s something her mother and elder sister taught her how to do but is practically a forgotten hobby. You help one another to remember the basics and decide to make a giant patchwork quilt for your sofa. You work on it together so that there’s a part of both of you in it, you take inspiration from your garden and the world around you, even though it’s a lot smaller than it was before. If either of you prick your finger the other is there to kiss it better.
Preparing relaxing baths for one another, you enjoy much of the bath on your own but sometimes the other will sit on the toilet and read aloud or just come in for a chat. Lockdown makes you more open with one another than you were before.
Getting into bed early before the sun has set, you keep the curtains open so you can watch the sky turn orange. Plenty of time in bed means you have time to binge watch the latest TV shows and not feel guilty about it if you have work the next day.
Witchy things - tarot card readings, candle magic, little rituals in the garden and kitchen witch magic like making dandelion honey or moon spell cookies.
Below are a few nsfw thoughts (I didn’t write many but a couple kept bouncing around in my mind).
Erwin -
Sex first thing in the morning, the kind of lazy, sleepy sex that the two of you dream of having but never have time before work. Now, you do and Erwin intends to make the most of it.
Also shower sex, sometimes this follows the sex in the morning so by the time you finish work you’re already feeling tired. Often it follows the workouts you do and it doesn’t take either of you long to cum seeing as watching one another get sweaty and flex muscles - the tension is unbelievable.
If you get too distracted during the work day, either by Erwin or TV (or if you distract Erwin too much) they’ll be punishments in the form of spanking and rough sex from behind, hair pulling and all. It’s the first time you find yourself wanting to be punished.
Levi
Sex in spaces you’ve just cleaned, it’s sort of a punishment if you back-talk him as he’ll make you clean up afterwards. Secretly he loves dirtying the sheets, it’s almost like an ultimate fantasy for someone who is so clean and neat, but he really has to be in the right mood for that.
Lockdown is a chance for the two of you to explore some of the sexual fantasies you’ve discussed but never tried from light bondage (to start) and role-play.
Switching, in your relationship neither one of you is particularly the dominant or submissive one continuously, rather you enjoy switching, but when you are in the role you both take it seriously. Now you’re in lockdown and it’s easy to get bored, you both agree to really extent the roles on the day you’re both in the mood, you could lead Levi round on a leash and collar all afternoon and he won’t complain.
Mike
Checking in on you as you’re working and trying to convince you lunch break sex is definitely a thing that will help you concentrate on your important presentation in your afternoon video conference. But of course he leaves you a bit of a mess and without a minute to spare so you appear on camera looking like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.
With Mike there’s also a lot of time to get creative in the bedroom, you have longer in the evening to take your time exploring one another and discovering new positions you’d never have thought possible.
When lockdown goes on much longer than anticipated Mike decides to turn up the creativity a notch. A rather large unmarked parcel arrives containing a latex bed sheet and sex swing, so you know you’re not going to be getting a lot of sleep for a while.
Moblit
Kisses that last for hours, the kind that start innocently and slowly you find yourself getting worked up and wanting more but Moblit continues to tease with those kisses and will pretend he has no idea why you’re worked up. However he does go weak at the knees if you praise him so that’s usually the way to get what you want.
The still life drawings of one another start off fully clothed and very quickly become nude studies. You can only take it seriously for so long before he pounces on you or you on him and it’s like ‘that’ scene from Titanic within minutes.
Endless, almost excruciating foreplay.
Hanji
Has always liked to have fun in bedroom, with lockdown it’s more of an excuse to dress up and play around, I’m thinking teacher & student or Doctor/nurse & patient. Hanji really gets into the role.
Science experiments continue to the bedroom, you decide to give the whole electro-stim thing a go.
Also with the DIY sweet kits there’s also a little left, so popping candy, expanding foam candy and more are used to adorn your bodies - it doesn’t stay on long as the combination of candy and sex is too irresistible to leave alone.
Nanaba
Sex outdoors, your garden is pretty secluded. It was something you talked about doing a lot but always found your weekends were too busy with friends and others that you just never got round to it. There’s grass stains on your knees and your clothes and you’d both wear them with pride outside the house if you could.
Bath tub sex, even if it’s a little uncomfortable it’s so intimate and personal that you don’t care how much of a mess you make or how many bruises you end up with. Lockdown hits you both hard mentally and bath tub sex is a way of feeling better and cleansed.
There’s also a chance for some sex magic which involves wax play, again, something new you’d thought about for a while and now you both just wanted something to make you feel alive.

Love Prompt
(Thomas x Amanda x a distraction from a certain Mr. Chris Evans) as prompted by @pixieferry 😉 with jealousy coming into play.
(Thomas x Amanda) taken from the regency era None But You storyline.
A/N after laughing over another prompt, the need to see Thomas jealous over Amanda's attention to Chris Evans came about. Unbeknownst to Mr. Evans, he will be set in regency England. Of course, because my mind loves to overthink everything, there will be two parts to this. And possibly another situation with these three in one of my modern AU’s.

Flummoxed Part 1
It had only a week since she left London. Only a week since he had last seen her smile. A week since they had discussed literature. A week without peaceful walks through fashionable Hyde Park. A week without those deeper emotions being brought to mind whenever she appeared in the candlelight of crowded ballrooms.
"Thomas Hunt you are a damn fool." He muttered to himself. The carriage rocked along the English countryside edging ever closer, mile by mile to Lady Amanda's country estate in Doncaster.
He could practically hear the laughter from Lord Ryan Summers and Sir Chris Winters when they received their notes that he would not be joining them for dinner Tuesday evening. Once they realized he was journeying to a certain lady's home to simply deliver a book he thought she might enjoy, there would be no end to their teasing.
___________________
A few days later...
Hudson entered into the drawing room at Snowfield Abbey and bowed. "Forgive me, my lady, but there is a gentleman here to see you."
"Oh?" Amanda took the card from the salver and a surprised smile formed on her lips. "Please show him in Hudson and then ask Mrs. Timms for a tea tray."
He nodded and stepped back out into the hall. Amanda stood and nervously smoothed her dress. If only she had been given more time to change her dress! Aunt Lucy would be devastated to know she entertained a visit in such a simple, old dress. With a final glimpse in the mirror to smooth a stray curl behind her ear, she turned with a calm expression.
The dark blonde haired gentleman walked in and bowed. "Lady Amanda, it has been too long since I last saw you."
She held her hands out in a warm greeting and smiled. "Welcome back to Snowfield, Mr. Evans. I had heard from your aunt that her favorite nephew was returning to Doncaster."
He sat down across from her, his dimples deepening. "Aye, well I had a need to revisit all I counted dear before leaving again."
Amanda clasped her hands together. "Are you truly going on another adventure so soon?"
His sapphire blue eyes twinkled with excitment. "I have a little over a month before returning to my duties with the East India Trading Company."
Amanda's smile dimmed at the distance and time he would be away. "Still searching for your buried treasure?"
His own smile faltered at the childhood memory. He reached over and took her hand. "I will always return home. I shall never leave for good. How could I possibly stay away?"
Amanda pulled her hand away when Hudson entered with the tea tray. He left quickly when he heard the front door bell ring and returned with a gentleman she had not expected to see at Snowfield.
"The Viscount of Kirkwood, my lady." Hudson announced before bowing out again.
"Lord Hunt! This is a surprise." She stood and curtsied.
His steps paused when Chris stood up beside her. Amanda smiled warmly at the viscount. "My lord, allow me to present Mr. Evans."
The two eyed each other and reluctantly nodded their heads in greeting. After another tense assessment, he presented the book to Amanda. Her joy at the fact he had not only thought of her when he saw this but had also made a special trip to bring it to her touched his heart and brought a slight smile to his lips. She set the book on a side table to read later and motioned for the gentlemen to sit down.
Amanda asked Thomas if he would care for tea and rang for a fresh pot. She prepared their cups while the two men continued to study the other in curiosity.
"Mr. Evans was telling me of his plans with the East India Trade company." Amanda offered a plate of biscuits toward each man.
Thomas took one and sipped his tea. "Oh? Where will you be placed?"
"It is undecided at the moment. Perhaps back to the West Indies or even to a new outpost in Singapore." Chris answered, eyes narrowing at the times Thomas's gaze remained on Amanda. Her cheeks turned a rosy shade too when she noticed.
"I'm sure your family and friends will be sad to see you go." Thomas remarked.
"Some more than others hopefully." Chris countered, looking at Amanda.
The conversation continued with the gentlemen discussing their plans while both hinted at a closeness with the lady between them. Neither seemed to have a definite claim upon Lady Amanda, yet both appeared to be teetering on the brink of making her their own.
Thomas frowned as he set his cup back on the tray. "Thank you Lady Amanda for the tea. I believe I should return to the inn and settle in for the night."
Amanda stood when he did. "I shall walk you out. Excuse me, Mr. Evans."
Chris heard the mantle clock chime the hour and stood too. "I'm afraid I also must leave. Aunt Prudence is expecting me for dinner."
Amanda rang for Hudson to let the stables know of their departure. Both men began to offer their arm to escort her. Thomas managed to beat Chris to it. She slipped her hand into the bend of his.
They stood on the front steps of Snowfield when Chris's horse was brought out first. He bowed over Amanda's hand, pressed a kiss to her knuckles, and promised to see her again before he left. "Perhaps if the weather is fine tomorrow, we could revisit our childhood haunts. Go fishing."
Thomas cleared his throat. Something deep within him felt the need to not allow this upstart to have a special moment alone with her. "I haven't fished in ages."
Amanda looked up at him and smiled. "Then you must join us tomorrow. I can prepare a picnic lunch and we shall make a day of it."
His dark eyes took in the hopeful happiness on her face and he agreed to come. Chris exaggerated clearing his throat to break whatever trance the Viscount had Amanda in and said goodbye once more.
She smiled while waving goodbye. Thomas noticed its sudden disappearance when he rode off. "You will miss him a great deal when he is sent away."
She looked up at him and slowly nodded. "I have known him for most of my life. It is difficult to imagine him being so far away. I worry for his aunt and cousins. They practically worship him. His time in the Caribbean was with multiple visits from his family. They won't be able to do that easily if he is sent to Singapore."
Thomas looked out at the rolling green hills of her home while fighting against the question of did this adventurer hold her heart. He seemed a hopeless dreamer to Lord Hunt, one that did not think of those that cared about him. Thomas didn't want to hear how heartbroken she might be nor did he relish the thought he knew was true about himself. If she were in love with Mr. Evans, he would do all he could to see her happily settled with the devil may care gentleman.
Amanda noticed his pensive expression grow darker. "Lord Thomas? Is something wrong?"
He shook his head and nodded toward a garden to the side of her home. "Walk with me a moment."
"Of course, since you asked." She teased, taking his arm again.
His frown eased some. Thomas covered her hand with his as they walked in companionable silence. "I've missed this." She said softly. Her cheeks turned red when his eyes immediately turned to her. "Our walks." She quickly explained, praying some monstrous gopher had dug a hole she could fall into.
Thomas squeezed her hand. "I've missed them too. Summers isn't as quiet as you are when walking."
Amanda's laughter brought a smile to his face. "No, I imagine he is quite different."
"That is putting it lightly." His frown returned when she removed her hand to cup a rose to smell.
"I meant to thank you for the book. Ever since you recommended Persuasion, I have wanted to read more of the late Ms. Austen's works."
Thomas bowed his head. "I thought you would enjoy Northanger Abbey. Catherine seems to have an imagination similar to yours in the story." The viscount lost his train of thought as he focused on the lady. He wished he were an artist to capture the loveliness of Amanda at this moment.
Surrounded by a variety of flowers, her white dress highlighted the abundance of nature's colors around her. Amanda's creamy skin, hazel eyes, and dark hair added to the contrast. The smile on her lips at his comparison of her and the main character was one of his favorites. It was one he noticed she had for no one else but him. All mine.
Ignorant to the tortuous thoughts and strong feelings the viscount was consumed with, she walked over to a bench and sat down to watch the sun set. Thomas joined her at her invitation.
She settled her gaze on him when his attention was drawn to the swans in the pond, turned golden by the brilliant orange sky. She thought he was quite possibly the most handsome man of her acquaintance. His looks though were not his only redeeming quality. He showed his kindness in so many small ways that seemed much more enduring than some grand gesture. She knew what a true friend he was from comments Sir Chris and Lord Ryan had made and she had witnessed it herself. As her eyes traced his stern profile, she wondered if he would ever come to see her as the lady of his heart. Most likely not.
He turned to her and stilled when he realized she not only caught him about to stare but he found her doing the very same. They looked at one another silently before turning in wordless agreement back to the sunset. Thomas glanced down at her hands loosely clasped in her lap. He reached over and took one to hold as the last of the sun's rays touched the horizon. The peacefulness of the shared moment was broken by the horses of his carriage clomping along the drive.
"I should take my leave." His deep voice ruffled her senses in the purple of dusk.
She stood and took his arm as they made their way slowly back to his carriage. Thomas bowed and pressed a lingering kiss to her hand. "Enjoy the book, my lady. I look forward to hearing your thoughts."
She smiled at him and promised to begin it tonight. "Are you staying long? I know my aunt would enjoy a visit with you before you return to London."
He didnt know how to tell her he had made no plans beyond this point. "I am free of responsibilities for a week or so?"
Her smile made him nearly promise to come by each day. She invited him to choose an evening to dine with them. "Aunt Lucy should be back home tomorrow evening. Shall we say the day after for dinner?"
He nodded. "That would be agreeable."
"Wonderful! Oh! Do feel welcome to come by and ride over the land. There are some marvelous trails that lead to travel. I shall be more than happy to point them out during our fishing adventure tomorrow." She added.
His lips curved at her gentle friendliness. "I might very well take you up on that, my lady. Perhaps if you are not too busy, you would care to join me on these jaunts?"
"Of course." Amanda tried to keep her voice even though she wished to squeal in delight.
With another goodbye, Thomas climbed in his carriage and observed her through his window. She stood by herself, watching his carriage until it turned a corner and disappeared on the road to town.

Mom/Joy has come up with a superior project to a) give her some variety from her crosswords, yoga, reading and listening to CBC radio on these winter days and b) offer New Brunswick a solution (and raise awareness) of what each person can do to reduce their carbon footprint in this environment that is in dire straits. As I keep complaining, having lived in two countries in the U.K., and two in North America, both east and west- New Brunswick is by far the most ‘behind’ when it comes to reducing waste, re-using, and recycling!
The mater of the upper suite of Blue Belldon is making shopping bags from old T-shirts we have around and others she’s buying for peanuts from 2nd hand shops. She looked online and, while she found many options, she chose the “No-Sew, Fringe-Bottom” . She got a lot of red ones, and those will be used to ‘wrap’ Christmas gifts, and then serve AS the Christmas gift when recipients realize they can reuse them for their groceries, etc.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Just as the now-famous Banksy artwork that got shredded as soon as it was sold last month, Mom is shredding the bottoms of shirts as quickly as she can get her hands on them, and also like Banksy, made her own artwork (sign) on the back of a split-in-half canvas bag she had lying around, and thus (like Banksy) plans to bring attention to her items in this fashion:
The link to make your own simple bags is here: www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/no-sew-t-shirt-bag and even if you aren’t as responsible for your part in keeping our planet from dying, at least it saves you from buying plastic bags, which is what HOPEFULLY all grocery stores, at least, will soon be doing. Remember, though – take your bags into EVERY shop, not just grocery stores. If I ever forget and leave the bags in the vehicle, I both educate the check-out people of drug stores, gift shops, etc. and punish myself by saying “darn, I forgot my bags in the truck, but don’t give me any plastic please” and then I make myself carry everything out via my purse, pockets and hands. Mom hopes to be going to some grocery stores and handing her great bags out for free, just to help educate, if nothing more.
We have GOT to stop polluting the earth (and yes, allowing plastic in your house IS polluting, because it still ends up in a land-fill and/or the ocean.) If you’ve forgotten or missed earlier rants, see this:
Plastic bags don’t just bung up the works and disallow animal and plant growth, they also release toxins into the earth and water AND wildlife can get caught up in them, often killing them:
It also means the greedy oil companies continue more and more mining, fracking, pipelines and tree-chopping, because of course it takes petroleum to make plastic!
One of my favourite modern composers, musicians (pianist phenom!), actors, comedians, satirists, humanitarians and environmentalists is Aussie/Brit Tim Minchin. That’s right, he’s in his early 40s and is ALL of those things! (Most recently composer of the lyrics and music for Broadway/West End smash hits Matilda and Groundhog Day, and soon opening in his first big-screen role as Friar Tuck in Robin Hood). Tim has a great little catchy tune entitled “Canvas Bags” – a bit more rock’n’roll than most of his songs, but he wanted people to sing it in their heads all the time, and it WORKS. (This is hardly indicative of most of his enormous body of work, and doesn’t show his incredible piano skills, so please google his name and look for other amazing stuff!) But here’s Canvas Bags:
youtube
And if you can’t make out all his spoken words they go as follows:
Just think about the world And how the world would be fantastic If we could get rid of all the plastic We just need to get enthusiastic Organise a competition, gymnastic Or a bag-making comp at your school Fuck it, make it interscholastic Canvas is for everyone Whether you be rebellious and iconoclastic Or conservative or ecclesiastic I don't care if you're loud and bombastic Or quiet or virtually monastic Sober or on the floor spastic A yoga master or completely inelastic I'm not trying to be ironic or sarcastic Do something drastic To rid the world of plastic
Of course Canvas and Cotton (Mom’s upcycled T-shirts) are also natural fabrics, so this is even better than if you use something with Polyester or other man-made materials! See what you can do to “rid the world of plastic” . Every little bit helps!
The very last of the garden was processed last week, and yesterday the snow flew all day and looks like it’s here to stay. I brought the last of the onions in from the porch. They have to dry out in a shady but windy spot for a few weeks before you can rope them together:
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then I finished the arduous task of finishing off our Dakota Black popcorn, of which we had a very successful long row in the garden all year. First,Richard and I scraped the corn off the cobs after it had already sat inside for a few weeks drying. That was about a month ago:
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Then I put all the kernels in the lids of my great-aunt’s cheeseboxes and set them on a high shelf in a closet to thoroughly dry:
After some weeks, it was ready to winnow, which I did a few days back. This involves a fan and a lot of sifting through colanders, hands, etc. to get all the dried husky stuff to fly away. (Richard then had to go do some sweeping and dusting to immediately clean up all those flying dried shell-bits, so maybe if we’d let them dry less time and done the winnowing outside it might have been better…)
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Once all the winnowing was complete (takes a long time!) we had a winter’s worth of snacks, and as popcorn is the only snack-food we allow ourselves (partly because it’s all we can grow to be self-sufficient, partly because it’s better for you than most snacks!) this made us happy!
I put it in our glass canister, and then we tried popping it a few nights ago. Doesn’t it look fluffy? You just need to get used to the insides being black, which traditionally makes us thing it’s burned… but of course it isn’t in this case! And Richard does make great popcorn. His one real ‘kitchen’ speciality (although he’s getting better at making toast!)
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
And thus, that’s it for the garden-processing blogposts from this year, and if you aren’t on Facebook to see my postings there, this was Richard and Chevy about an hour ago – he’s reminding him how to drive in the snow, as we have a possible buyer coming to try him tomorrow. We’ll be sad to see him go, but between Richard’s hip and my knees, we can’t keep up… maybe after some surgeries and replacement body parts are made. So, this might be the last photo blog-readers see of dear Chev! Cammie will be devastated!

The sky is a deepening grey mottled with clouds threatening more than the flurries tumbling lazily on the frigid breeze. The ground is hard, the grass crunching under the frost as I step on it. Only a few birds remain to play with the Fireflies as they flit only a few feet away from me, their sorties short and frequent between stops inside the hood of my coat.
Finn is away visiting the Hardy compound. I have not been feeling well these last few weeks: I’ve been more tired than usual in the admittedly longer evenings, while during the day my appetite has disappeared and nausea has been gripping me at odd times. For that reason I have stayed close to the cottage this afternoon, stocking the root cellar for the winter and clearing away the debris of the garden for the compost pile.
“Little ones, perhaps we should go back inside,” I call out to them as the last of the year’s root vegetables disappear into my basket. The squeaks of protest amuse me for the moment, until they fall silent as, one by one, the Fireflies return to the hood’s shelter and snuggle among its folds. Whatever remains in the garden now will wait dormant in the spring.
“When will Finn be back?” Joe asks, scouting the outer limits of his flight path before returning.
“Hopefully by nightfall,” I reply. “I don’t remember him bringing a flashlight with him.” Suddenly I’m worried. Wyatt’s minions have been close to the ring of protection, but the Hardy compound and the path towards it are both outside it.
The wind picks up as I mount the steps to the cottage door and step inside with my little charges. Christmas Eve has arrived. The woods have crept as garlands onto the staircase rail, along the windowsills and around the mantel in the sitting room, crowned with a tree in the corner adorned with popcorn strings, paper chains and ornaments of all shapes and colours. Extra blankets cover the beds; throw blankets sit folded or draped over seat-backs; the crates of firewood are piled high next to both the fireplace and the kitchen woodstove.
With a wave, the lanterns inside are lit. I march my cargo into the kitchen and set it on the table before doffing my boots and coat. A moment or two later, I start a fire on the stove and set a pot of water upon it to boil. I set to work preparing the meal for the holiday – mixing dough for bread, peeling and chopping vegetables, and blending herbs for the dressing. A noseful of summer savoury, however, suddenly brings on a wave of nausea that makes me sit down a moment. The Fireflies gather around me.
She’s not…sick again, like when she came back? Ashley, the sensitive one, the little worrywart – asks.
I’m not sure. Emma gives me a tiny peck on my forehead. She’s not feverish, I don’t think.
Well, that’s good, at least. Nicholas, thus assured, darts off to play with the ornaments on the tree.
Tired again, Sis? Joe asks. Maybe you need some tea to pick you up.
Rachel and Joshua immediately dash off to the cupboard for the tin and a mug, growing in size as they pick each up and bring it to the table before shrinking back again.
Remember how she’d get so tired for those few days every moon? Dylan, one of the other boys, is an observant sort, but has never had much of a filter. I chuckle.
Dylan! Ew! Funny, though, you’ve not had one of those spells in a while. Not since you’ve been back. Jessica, so proper in her way, and so observant .
“No, no, I’ll be all right,” I answer. Nonetheless, it takes me all my strength, it seems, to walk to the pantry shelf, pull the medical book from its spot and return to the table with it. The lantern’s flame glows from behind its milky glass as I thumb through the pages, looking for a cause. I’m getting old; the winter brings with it its share of death and disease; the last seven years of my life have been almost totally a stretch of traumas and trials. Decline seems not merely expected, but almost welcome.
Five years I was in that cell, most of it encased in that curse of Wyatt’s. The memory of it still sometimes brings me to near-rage, despite what has followed. It also brings me a deep sadness on occasion, as I realize that some hopes are now beyond me. There has been no talk of it with Finn: none yet, anyway.
The last three months, however, have done much to repair the damage. The parcels under the tree for Finn are full of my gratitude for what he has done. The days have been calmer, more productive, quieter in their way, and infinitely happier with Finn to protect me and keep me company, and to inspire me. The nights have filled me with more pleasure and contentment than I have ever thought possible. So many nights together…so much….
Wait a minute- no. I must have gone through the Change. I’m not exactly a shriveled husk, but I’m past that stage now. There’s no way….
“All right, little ones – off to the sitting room with you! Get your stockings hung up for Santa! I have to get the rest of the supper on.” The brief protests morph into excited chirps as the Fireflies make a tight formation flying into the sitting room.
The vegetables make their way into a pot with some of the hot water, a few dollops of tomato paste and a dash of salt and pepper. In a heartbeat afterwards, I find a needle and a small ceramic cup I’ve used before for spell-work. I dash to the washroom next to the kitchen, rinse out the cup with water and, over the toilet, settle myself to my task. I half-fill the cup before finishing my task on the toilet and dropping the needle into the cup. I sit and wait with the cup at my feet, barely registering that I am breathing.
Within a few minutes, I see the needle changing – flakes of its shine come away and the pale yellow liquid around the needle has turned to billows of a rusty hue. I observe the changes and become hyperaware of everything – of my own heartbeat intermingling with another, a light fluttering inside me, the realization of why I’d been waking up each morning feeling as though I had slept on a pea. I close my eyes as the weight of the discovery descends. How could I have missed it? How could I have been so sure of one conclusion that I wouldn’t entertain any other possibility?
Hello, little one. It’s all I can think of to form in my mind as my heart fills. You are a bit of a surprise.
I can hear a voice singing a carol, and see a flicker of lantern-light through the window. Quickly, I dispose of the needle and its vehicle, flush the commode and give the cup another rinse, this time with soap. I wash my hands quickly and thoroughly, and step back to the kitchen just as the cottage door swings open and a jolt of frigid air blasts across the passage.
“Jaysus, it’s gotten cold out dere,” Finn announces as he shuts the door and gently sets a sack down by his feet. “Any hot water?”
“I’ve g-got a pot on the simmer,” I reply, looking around the kitchen for what to do next. “So, how was the visit?”
“Good, good!” he says, treading through as he doffs his hat and gloves. “Dey sent me back wit’ a sack of presents for us. De boys picked out some doll outfits for de Fireflies and Matt and Reby sent us a tool set an’ some craft supplies – paints and stuff, a couple bolts o’cloth for ‘round de house – what’s wrong? You’ve been sick again?”
“It was…just a passing thing,” I reply. “But…um….But I think I’ve found out what’s been causing it.”
“What’s goin’ on?” Finn’s brow furrows and he reaches for my hands.
I give his cold hands a squeeze; his gloves have done little to keep them warm. “You know that we’ve been here…together…about three months.”
“Dereabouts.” He looks at me, his face a map of worry and confusion.
“And before that…how long was I a prisoner?”
“Five years. Ya told me yerself and then you showed me your little book – de last thing you wrote in it was dat long ago. “
“During that time, I don’t remember having had…my period. I figured it was stopped or curtailed between Wyatt’s spell and the lack of food.”
“Dat’s understandable,” he says.
“Well, since we got back here and restored everything and rebuilt it, I haven’t had one in that time, either, and….”
“…We have been inseparable…in more ways den one.” He gives me a half-grin before the realization begins to dawn. His eyes widen, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Abigail….D’ya tink…?”
My voice is shaking, along with the rest of me. “I thought it was over for me – that I’m too old now. But…I think so. It would add up, with how I’ve been feeling lately.”
The kitchen is utterly silent but for the pots gurgling away on the stove. I grab the pot holders and lift the kettle of water off the burner to the side, then reach for the teapot. Finn gently turns me back to face him.
“How…how d’you feel about it?” His expression is searching – afraid of the answer.
“Before you, I would have been absolutely petrified.” I had to be honest – bottling this up was going to hurt others besides me now.
“But now?” The search in his face has grown desperate. “I mean, I don’t want to fo-“
“Shhh,” I answer, gently putting my finger to his quivering lips. “I’m full of joy right now. I’m ecstatic – nervous but ecstatic. “We’re soulbound – you told me that. We’re together. This is what, I think, we’re meant to have now that we are together – what we’re meant to have.”
“Jaysus…we’re…we’re havin’ a baby.” The despair in Finn’s face has turned to a tremulous elation as he pulls me closer to him and wraps an arm around me.
I give his torso a squeeze and press a kiss against his lips before nuzzling against his neck. “And what a day to find out.”
Suddenly, I catch flickers of light as eight little bodies press themselves between Finn and me, their voices a chorus of whoops and squeals of delight. “How long were you listening in?”
Joe speaks for them all. “We kinda suspected when you went to the bathroom that something was up. One of us may have gotten some inside information.”
“Well, dis is quite an unexpected Christmas gift, I must say,” Finn says at last, squeezing me tighter and kissing my forehead. “Now for a bite of supper before Santa comes. And, Mum,” he looks at me. “You’re off de clock tonight.”

The Broken Pieces
Pairing: Male Human x Ace Male Incubus Warning:SFW (Angst, Depression, Mention of Death and Past Abuse) Word Count: 4328 Note: OkCryptid Collab Prompt from @thetravelerwrites. Here’s my humble contribution. I had an idea in my ‘idea book’ for a while and was happy to knock this out as a combo piece. I really wanted to create something like this and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I hope y’all enjoy! Ao3 Version | My Website Version
“Alright, bud. Your profile is all set up.”
Mason poked his head out from the kitchen to give Jeremy, longtime friend and class of 2011 survivor, a quizzical frown, “What profile?”
Jeremy shook his head at Mason “I’ll give you three guesses. It’s been two years since you broke up with Maria. What kind of profile do you think it is?”
Mason went back to putting popcorn in the microwave, frowning slightly at the rotating bag of kernels. While it popped, he leaned against the doorway and watched Jeremy. The man with his furrowed brow was finger deep in some dating app as he swiped his finger across the screen. Mason knew his friend meant well, but he wasn’t sure he was ready for this kind of thing.
“I’m not sure the dating scene is my thing. It’s been the same song and dance. I meet some gal or guy and I end up dating them and then they hurt me and leave a pile of ash behind—I’m just not interested.”
“I totally respect that you don’t want to date, but you should at least get out there. Maybe meet new people.”
Mason sighed, “Is this because you’re leaving next month and you’re worried about me?”
Glancing up from the phone Jeremy met Mason’s gaze, “Can you blame me? You don’t really have anyone else, Mason. Maria kind of made sure of that.”
Mason was the first to break eye contact as pain flared up in his chest. Maria. Everything about her still caused bitterness and regret to burn in his veins and bile to well up in his throat. What had been so fun in the beginning had become toxic and abusive. A dull throb started in his head as he began thinking about it.
“That she did.”
There was a silence between the two friends. An understanding of the damage combined with a quiet desperation to fix it.
“I’m not going to pressure you, Mason—but I can’t help but worry that you’re going to disappear into yourself.”
Mason was worried too. He was worried that he was never going to be able to connect with a person ever again and that Jeremy really was his last and only friend. It was enough to make Mason outstretch his hand for his phone.
“Alright, explain this thing to me.”
A hopeful grin spread across Jeremy’s face as he shot up from the couch and practically danced into the kitchen beside Mason. Glancing away from the popcorn, Mason raised an eyebrow as he looked down at the dating app.
“OkCryptid? Seriously, dude?”
“What? You never thought about going on a date with a different creature? Are you speciesist?” Jeremy teased, playfully cocking his hand onto his hip.
“That’s not it, I guess I just never really thought about dating someone that wasn’t a human.”
“Well, time to get your feet wet my friend, maybe literally.”
Mason inwardly winced at his friends over-exuberance as he began showing Mason how to use the app. It seemed easy enough to navigate, but Mason didn’t want to look at it any longer once the microwave alerted him that the popcorn was ready. The monster dating app was definitely a far second to horrible movie night and snacks.
After the movie, Jeremy went home and Mason began flipping through profiles on the app and cringed repeatedly. Mason himself wouldn’t be bragging about his profile. Jeremy had chosen a picture he had snapped while Mason was driving. But the worst part about it was what Jeremy had written on his behalf. While the self-summary was spot on, Mason was a florist that liked to garden in his spare time, or play video games and movie nights, it was how Jeremy had made him sound like a quirky weirdo.
I love plants so much that I can tell you what each individual flower means and how to arrange them in a perfect bouquet for when I meet your parents.
“Jeremy, you asshole,” Mason muttered as he edited his description, removing that line completely.
He tweaked it seven times and reread it only to find he’d gone from random freak to completely uninteresting. If he were trying to find someone to date and they had this profile description it would be a pass for Mason. With that thought, Mason got ready for bed, fighting the feeling of oncoming depression and the stinging sensation of tears. As his head hit the pillow he hoped sleep would give him a moment of peace.
For three weeks, the app stayed on Mason’s phone, forgotten until a notification beeped while Mason was at work. He almost ignored it as he began trimming up some calla lilies for a wedding bouquet that needed to be finished by the end of the week.
“You got pinged, Mason.” Came a small voice from a pot of soil on Mason’s workbench.
Mason glanced at the alraune, Delpha. She was a small floral creature, that could easily be mistaken for a sunflower with a small face. She had come into his store, nearly getting stepped on in the process, to ask for a job. It had been a couple of years since then, but Mason had accommodated her in many ways so that she could walk from table to table, helping the plants grow and stay healthy with her magic.
Now she was helping him grow a new kind of flower hybrid that would be special to only his store. She was carefully placing seeds into the soil with her as sparkling green magic spread from her leafy hands, “I guess there’s no harm in checking it.”
Swiping the phone on, Mason stared down at the app’s notification with surprise. Someone had messaged him. Not just any someone, an incubus someone.
“What is it, Mason?”
A sudden onset of dry mouth caused Mason to struggle as he opened the app to look at the message and the incubus in question, “It’s a message from someone on the dating app my friend installed.”
“Oh? Which app? I’m partial to Monstr myself. I once went on a date with a mandrake root and you would not believe the night we had together.” Delpha jumped out of the pot, scattering dirt across the table as she moved to look at Mason’s phone. “Ohh! OkCryptid! Mason, I didn’t know you swung our way, towards us otherworldly creatures.”
“I-uh, I’ve always thought about it but then I met Maria and—”
Mason cut himself off, he didn’t want to discuss personal stuff with Delpha. Not about Maria at least. This incubus, however, was a different story.
His name was Vylixar but went by Vyl. He looked like a Vyl, Mason decided looking at the imposing creature. Mason had met several incubi and succubi over the years and their appearances weren’t exactly what most humans would consider the epitome of beauty. They often had scale-like skin with little horns protruding from their shoulders and elbows, but they came in a variety of colors. Vyl was a deep mauve with large spikes. His horns on his head looked sharp and pointed, curling from his head down to his pointed ears. In his profile picture was him revealing sharp fangs with what Mason assumed was a friendly smile on his short snout.
Mason turned the phone so Delpha could see, “What do you think?”
“Oh, he looks big and strong, although you might want to be careful, incubi often like to feast on energy.”
“I’ve heard of it, but never really educated myself on it.” Mason pulled his phone back to look at what Vyl had messaged. “Is it sexual energy? I don’t really have any of that right now.”
“It can be. I’ve heard that it feels good for humans when they feast on you. It can get addictive.”
It had been a while since Mason had felt good in any respects. Every day felt like he was just struggling to hold on to what little he had left. Maybe this is a risk he should take.
Quickly glancing over the text, Mason wrote back his response, double and triple checking his words trying to not sound like an idiot. He hesitated to hit the send button but finally pressed send after rereading his message one more time. After he did so he put his phone down, anxiously waiting to hear back as he went back to preparing the wedding bouquet.
Another notification made Mason’s phone beep as he was about to wrap and pin the ribbon onto the bouquet.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?”
Mason could feel his palms start to sweat, but his reply was instant ‘Yes’. ‘Vyl is typing’ quickly turned into another message back asking if tonight would work for him. Mason was astonished at how much Vyl wanted to meet him. Despite himself, Mason was getting excited, the sooner he met Vyl, the better.
He messaged back that he was available and no sooner had he sent the message did Vyl respond with a date and time. Confusion at the location made Mason raise his eyebrow. It was a bakery just down the street from where Mason worked, he had even been there to help with a cake order that required several rose heads that a bride had specifically wanted. Had Mason already met Vyl before? He didn’t recognize him at all.
After work was finished, Mason headed home to clean himself up a bit and put on a button up shirt that he always liked. Maria hated it. It was blue plaid that made Mason look like a lanky roadie is what she had said, usually wrinkling her nose in disgust. She would then suggest a plain and professional button-up shirt.
“Fuck her,” Mason growled, buttoning the shirt up a little more fiercely. “I look good.”
Mason had finished inspecting himself before he was out the door and arrived at the bakery. Vyl had said 7:30 but as Mason stood outside the bakery he frowned up at the closed sign. The bakery had already closed and had been for nearly an hour. Mason was ready to believe that he got tricked when he saw a hulking incubus with large clawed feet walk towards the door.
He unlocked it and smiled, his yellow glowing eyes looked Mason up and down as he opened the door, “Mason?”
“Uh—yeah. That’s me.”
“Hi, please come in.” Vyl moved to the side, keeping the door wide as Mason shuffled into the bakery. “Sorry, I was running a little bit late with the cleanup in the bakery and preparing dinner. I hope you don’t mind.”
Mason glanced back to see Vyl locking up before he walked past him into the back, “Come on back, I’m just starting to finish up cooking.”
Uncertain and a little concerned, Mason gave pause at the situation. Vyl owned the bakery? And was cooking dinner for Mason?
“Uh, Vyl?” Mason asked wandering into the back to see an expansive setup. Several tables were placed throughout the expansive space, where little fairies were sprinkling sugar on cookies while others were turning cakes as they were being decorated with colorful icing and decadent chocolate.
“Don’t mind the sugar plum fairies, they do a lot of the work at night. We won’t be eating down here though, my little flat is just above the shop.”
Mason continued to follow behind, taking one last peek at the fairies and the massive kitchen. It had several silver machines that Mason assumed were for mixing and preparing the pastries and cakes. He also had never seen sugar plum fairies before and was fascinated at how they seemed to really enjoy rolling out fondant together.
Up a set of spiral stairs, Mason finally followed Vyl up to a different floor that had a large red door propped open. The enticing scent of food made Mason’s stomach growl loudly enough that Vyl glanced back and chuckle.
“Feeling hungry?”
“I am, actually.”
“Good, I’m glad you brought your appetite. I should have asked beforehand, but are you allergic to anything?”
“Uh, no. I’ll pretty much eat everything. My friend says my stomach is made out of lead.”
Vyl smirked, “Well, my cooking isn’t atrocious, so hopefully you won’t have to put that theory to the test.”
Vyl opened the door again, ushering Mason forward into the flat. It was spacious and well decorated much to Mason’s surprise. He didn’t know what to expect but he certainly didn’t think Vyl’s place would be so homey. Vinyl records decorated the walls, mixed in was some jazz posters in thick black frames. A flat-screen was bolted into the wall above a small white painted fireplace and sitting across from it was a couch with two other chairs surrounding a glass coffee table.
“Can I get you a glass of wine or maybe a beer?”
“I won’t say no to a beer.” Mason nodded as he took off his shoes before he followed Vyl into the kitchen.
The kitchen was similar to the one in the bakery, stainless steel appliances that were polished and cleaned to a pristine shine like no one had been using them. He watched as Vyl opened the fridge and pulled out a beer and popped the cap off easily before handing it to Mason. With his nerves starting to make him want to bail, Mason gratefully took the beer and took a sip, surprised at how smooth the dark liquor went down.
“Wow, what is this?”
“Ah, that is a St. Bernardus Abt 12. It’s good right?”
“It really is, I don’t think I’ve tasted anything like this before.”
“Well, don’t drink that one down too fast, it’s got a high alcohol content and on an empty stomach that beer will go straight to your head.”
Vyl smiled at his comment as he washed his hands. His hands quickly found their way to a blade as he began to chop some vegetables and throwing them into a large bowl with some leafy greens.
“Can I help with anything?”
“No thank you, I should be fine. But if you don’t mind, I could use the company.”
Mason nodded, “Sure thing.”
Silence had filled the air with only Vyl’s chopping to compensate for it before Mason took one more swig of beer before trying to talk, “So, do you own the bakery? I’ve actually worked with you guys before for that rose cake for a wedding about a year ago.”
“Oh! Are you the gentleman from the flower store down the street?”
“Yes, actually.”
“Well, fancy that. I had no idea. I’m usually in the back downstairs making the cakes.” Vyl stopped as the smile that had appeared, faded quickly. “My late partner used to deal with the customers so you probably saw him.”
Mason’s eyes went wide as he watched the large incubus pause as he threw the remaining vegetables into the bowl before turning to wash the cutting board in the sink.
“Your late partner.” Mason murmured as he tried to remember the person he met. A picture of a young man with long hair tied into a long braid came to mind. He had glasses and a soft kind smile as he had greeted Mason and discussed business with. Lucas. That was his name. “Lucas.”
“Yes. Lucas. My wonderful partner.”
“When did he pass?” Mason asked, carefully watching Vyl as he walked to the oven to check on a large roast.
“It was a year ago—on this day actually. A heart attack of all things. The man was fit as a fiddle, yet his heart had a blockage.” Vyl stared intently at the roast, sticking it with a thermometer, “I hope you don’t mind—it’s just that I really needed someone tonight. I needed to feel like this place was a home again with a cooked meal and with someone to share it with.”
Vyl paused, “I’m sorry if you’re disappointed or you were hoping for something more than just a meal.”
“No. No. Vyl, don’t apologize.” Mason’s brow furrowed, his heart ached for the incubus in front of him. He understood the pain and he understood the need for companionship even if it meant this wasn’t actually a date. Whatever preconceived ideas Mason had about Vyl feeding on him just so he could feel good was gone. “I get it. I really do.”
“You do?”
Those glowing eyes turned to Mason with shock and lingering sadness as tears had been forming in the corner of his eyes.
“I do. Honestly, I’m not ready to date anyways. I got out of a bad relationship two years ago and I haven’t really been the same since. My friend Jeremy put the app on my phone because he’s worried that I don’t have any friends and he’s concerned that I’ll be lonely since he’s leaving in a week.”
Vyl let out a small breath of relief, “Lucas would have done the same which is the only reason I installed the app myself. I can hear him in the back of my mind, pushing me to move on, but it’s hard. Even harder is to find someone who would want to date me anyway.”
“Why do you think that?”
“I’m-uh, not like other incubi. I don’t really do the sex thing. Ever. I just don’t have an interest in it, I’d much rather have a companion who doesn’t mind snuggling on the couch to watch some movies or maybe will go on walks with me while we indulge in ice cream. I still need to feed occasionally, but it’s very rare for me since I’ve gone what most of my kind consider ‘vegan’. I eat human food for sustenance.”
Vyl stood up, closing the oven door, reaching for his own glass of wine as he took a sip.
“That—honestly sounds what I want right now.” Mason shuffled from side to side, inwardly admiring Vyl’s bravery for being honest with him, all while feeling a little guilty that he had come here without thinking that perhaps Vyl was a person and not an object to magically make Mason happy. He didn’t want sex, but he wanted to feel good. He wanted to feel happy again. “I don’t have much interest in anyone sexually either. Not after my ex. Honestly, I just feel—”
Mason stopped himself. There he was, bringing up that woman again.
“Did you want to talk about it? I mean, I’m a stranger or a potential friend, should we enjoy each other’s company—but sometimes talking to a stranger about your problems is easier than talking to your friends. I’m less involved in what happened.”
Taking a deep swig from the bottle, Mason struggled until it spilled out, “I’ve always been a bit more reclusive than most people, so I figured dating someone who was the opposite of me would help me to come out of my shell a bit more. Maria was my opposite. In every way. She wasn’t very good for me and really enjoyed hurting me by putting me down. Near the end of our relationship, I questioned whether it was just in my head or maybe I was emotionally fragile and just sensitive. Maybe I was just not good enough for her. But what broke everything was when I found out that she had been cheating—as if the verbal abuse wasn’t enough. I really wasn’t enough for her. She even blamed me when I confronted her about it. It was—bad. ”
Another profound silence settled between them as Mason did his best to keep his eyes on the floor. He was struggling to reign it all in.
“Oh—Mason.” Vyl said softly. “Can I give you a hug?”
Mason nodded immediately as he felt the welling of emotions inside of him. She had cut him up into tiny pieces and he just didn’t know how to put himself back together again. For a moment as Vyl wrapped his arms around Mason, he felt as if he might just be able to do it. He might become whole again, one day.
Unexpected tears and sniffles began to plague Vyl as he held Mason tightly. It only made Mason respond in kind, burying his face into Vyl’s chest to hide his own tears. They both stood in that kitchen, clinging for their own reason to continue on as the fresh home cooked meal reminded them of care and warmth. Tonight it was enough to share a meal together. It was enough to share each others company.
They pulled apart, both quickly wiping their own tears away before Vyl laughed, “Look at us. What a horrible meeting this is.”
Mason sniffed, letting out a chuckle, “No, it’s actually pretty great.”
“I’m sorry that she hurt you so deeply.”
“Yeah, me too.” Mason nodded, “Honestly, I’m pretty sure I should go see a therapist. This kind of baggage is heavy and I don’t want to burden anyone with it.”
“That’s understandable and probably the healthiest solution.” Vyl turned to open the oven and check the roast once more, “Ah, I believe that dinner is ready.”
“Great, I think all the crying made me hungrier than I was before.”
Vyl laughed, “Crying can be good for the soul, but I can relate. I think I’m hungry after I blubber—at the very least, I’m thirsty.”
Mason felt a wave of relief as he watched Vyl grab two sets of plates, handing one to Mason before setting the other one down. He picked up a carving knife and fork, cutting large slices of steaming roast and plopping two onto Mason’s plate.
His mouth watered as he stared at the hot beef, his stomach also letting out a resounding grumble of approval, “Wow, this looks delicious. Where did you learn to cook or bake?”
“I went to a culinary school a long time ago. Since we incubi have long lives, I’ve been in and out of school for centuries, picking up new things and recreating the old.”
Vyl handed Mason cutlery as he ushered him into the dining room across from the living room. The table was small with four chairs and four placemats already set on the surface. Mason had wondered if perhaps Vyl was the one who placed the little vase of fake flowers in the middle or if it was Lucas.
Setting down his plate, Vyl walked to the kitchen, coming back with the bowl of salad and several dressings pressed to his chest before he set them all down.
“I didn’t even think about how long you live. So, have you been vegan for long then?”
“Yes, actually. I just never enjoyed it like others of my kind did. So, I just didn’t do it. Occasionally the mood strikes where I wouldn’t mind feeding on a person, but it’s very rare. Because of that, I learned to cook and get nutrition from food. It only made sense to learn to cook or bake to earn money while I eat to survive.”
“Makes sense to me.” Mason smiled, cutting into his roast before taking the first bite.
It was glorious as the savory flavor hit Mason’s taste buds, “Wow. This is really good.”
Vyl’s smile grew large as he watched as Mason began cutting up his food more to get another piece into his mouth, “I’m glad—Lucas definitely appreciated my cooking as well.”
“Was this his favorite meal?”
“It was.” Vyl paused, “I’m sorry, I just feel really guilty about this ‘date’. Like I’m using you.”
“Well, join the club. I feel like an ass because I originally came here thinking that I might feel good if you fed off me. “
Vyl let out a hearty laugh, “A date where both parties were looking to ease their own pain and suffering by using the other. How romantic. This could only lead to good things.”
“From the looks of it, we might become ‘cry buddies’.”
“Cry buddies,” Vyl chuckled again, “I like it. It really brings out a softer side.”
Dinner had turned into a late gabfest with Vyl showing Mason how to make a cupcake with buttercream icing. They talked about everything from their past relationships, to video games, books, and movies. Mason even was pleased to discover that Vyl was interested in incorporating more real flowers into his baking displays. They had a lot in common and when the evening drew to a close they exchanged numbers before Vyl showed Mason out of the bakery with a box of cookies and their cupcake creations.
“I really enjoyed tonight. It’s not what I thought it would be.” Mason spoke first, pausing at the door as Vyl unlocked and opened it.
“I did too. I’m probably as surprised as you are.”
A silent pause descended on Mason as he stared down at the box in hand before meeting Vyl’s gaze, “I know I sound like a broken record, but I’m not ready to date. I’m still not really in a healthy place where I should be dating, but I want to see you again as a friend. Is that okay?”
Vyl nodded, a small smile toying at the corners of his snout, “I would like that very much, Mason. Do you think we could meet up on Sunday? I could show you how to make cookies.”
Vyl ruffled Mason’s hair playfully as Mason felt relief flood through his body.
“I’d like that.”
“Cool. I’ll text you later then. Have a good night and please get home safely.”
Mason nodded as he stepped outside, “I will—oh and Vyl?”
“Yeah?” Vyl paused before closing the door.
“Thank you. Truly.”
“Thank you too, Mason.”
Mason began walking away with goodies in hand as he heard Vyl lock up. He felt lighter than he had in a while and decided to text Jeremy about how his evening went. He ended the message with a quick note that he was going to be just fine. For the first time, Mason knew it to be true.

ECRM’s Snack, Winter Program: 10 Trends to Watch
Earlier this year at ECRM’s Snack, Winter Program, companies in the snack industry including met and presented new items to buyers from across all retail channels. We met with the brands and learned what is hot and new in the snack world, and we discovered new trends that we can’t wait to see on shelves.
Plant-based nibbles
LoCa Snacks are plant-based protein chips that taste great and offer a lower-carb, lower-calorie snacking option. With seven grams of plant-protein, natural fiber, and half the net carbs of traditional chips, these treats are packed with good-for-you ingredients and flavor. Certified vegetarian, gluten-free, kosher, and made with no artificial flavors or preservatives, the chips provide a better-for-you alternative to traditional snacking.
Natural Intentions’ Daily Crave offers a lentil chip as well as an extremely fast-growing quinoa chip. Using only the highest quality plant-based ingredients, these sweet-and-salty snacks have been a huge hit! The company launched The Beyond Series in January 2020, which includes Beyond Puffs and Beyond Churros. Both made from a grain-free blend of black beans, red lentils, and cassava, these new items are packed with protein and fiber and satisfies all cravings!

Taking it a step further, they help support disadvantaged communities by working with female minority-owned plants that mainly employ single mothers to help those families in need.
Spotlight on social responsibility
Everyone wants a snack that is healthy and delicious. But why stop there? These companies take it step further and give back to the community and our planet.
Turbana is introducing a new line of Plantain and Cassava Chips that provide a healthier alternative for snacking that offers an eco upside: They reduce waste by upcycling fruit that would have been thrown away and turn it into a tasty treat. The company also gives back to the local communities in Colombia, where its natural ingredients are grown, and provides support for employees and their families, ensuring all of the children can go to college.

The company rescued the Native Andean Potato that was lost for nearly 2,000 years and converted it into delicious chips. All products are regionally grown, harvested, processed, and packaged in Quito, Ecuador, employing hundreds of farmers that otherwise would not have such opportunity.
Low-carb satisfaction
Twin Peaks’ Protein Puffs are the perfect high-protein, low-carb snack that’s packed with protein so you can curb the cravings. At 21g of Protein per serving, only 2g of carbs and 1-2g of sugar. these puffs have been a go-to choice for keto dieters, mindful snackers, and health-focused individuals seeking a better-for-you option with a boost of protein.

Your favorites re-imagined
KrackCorn is an indulgent snack with a one-of-a-kind taste and texture. When you think of a caramel popcorn, the classics pop up in your head. KrackCorn is bringing fun and excitement to a stagnant legacy category. To taste it is to believe it, and it will provide the ultimate snacking experience.
Remember when you ate snacks just because they were crazy good? Well Savory Fine Foods is bringing that carefree snacking back. All of their products are based on the premise that they are, first off, crazy delicious snacks that are meant to be the hit of any party, making you the star of the show. The company is introducing two new flavors that are not only delicious, but MSG free as well.
You might eat this snack and be reminded of a family recipe you grew up with. Chunk Nibbles uses their 3rd-generation family recipe in a new line of snacks that has been a smash hit because it resonates. Their flagship Grandma’s Original flavor is a combination of pretzels, peanuts, walnuts, and corn chex all bound together with a light coating to form a delicate but addicting combination of salty and sweet.

Send me a ღ and I’ll fill this out about a ship
// YAYYY!! Thank you so much!!! @blind-mutant Some of these are for them as adults and some are just universal for adults and teens :D//
Who’s the first to wake up in the morning:
Finrod! Ive written this out in more detail on another post but he gets up first maybe around 6 am, gets somewhat ready for the day, makes tea, and prepares breakfast( on work days its a quick breakfast but always good), then he’ll lay back down with Rhys around 7 am and gently wake him up with kisses and soft whispers so that Rhys can get ready too. He’ll make sure Rhys has enough time to comfortably get ready before work. On days they have off from work, he’ll sleep in to maybe 7:30-8.15am and make tea then lay back down with Rhys for a little while then probably wakes Rhys up at 9 am or 9:30 for breakfast.
Their routine at the institute is basically the same although they get breakfast from the school’s kitchen, and sometimes go to eat with everyone else or Finrod bring it up to their room. Its a bit more common for him to bring it up to their room since Rhys isnt a morning person, crowds arent his favorite thing either. They may go eat with everyone else sometimes after Rhys has gotten comfortable with everyone. Depends on how sleepy Rhys is.
Who’s the one to make breakfast:
Finrod again. Rhys is blind so Finrod always cooks though Rhys does help as much as he can with things like stirring/mixing, pouring coffee since its easy to feel place the edge of the coffee pot on the cup and pour with time he can judge how long it takes to fill the cup though mistakes happen sometimes, he can crack eggs, things like that. Though all this depends on what time it is in the morning. Rhys is not a morning person and wont be cooking if its 6-7 am, he’ll most likely be grumping about getting out of bed, huddled in blankets, and will need to be soothed with kisses
Who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed:
Finrod! He loves bringing Rhys breakfast in the mornings especially since Rhys doesnt like getting up, so breakfast in bed may happen a lot.
Although deviating from the question a bit, Im sure Rhys does bring Finrod things sometimes, not cooked, but everything is labeled in braille so they probably mutually bring each other treats every now and then when theyre doing things like watching/listening to tv.
Who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work:
Rhys!! Most always, though it really depends on the situation. If Rhys wakes up with a thirst after having dreams about it, Finrod can usually tell unless hes asleep too but he almost always is woken up by Rhys squirming, moving, or making noises. In which case Finrod wakes up a bit turned on too. It could also be swapped and Finrod be the one having dreams or just a boner in his sleep and Rhys wake up.Really any number of scenarios can happen.
Who suggests they both ditch work to lay around all day:
Rhys. Hes not a morning person ( i said it like five times already but its true XD) at all and would very much like staying in bed all day. The same goes for when they were in school.
Who chooses the movies:
Well, Finrod informs Rhys about movies and lets him decide? He doesnt want Rhys to listen to something that he doesnt find interesting. But Finrod does have to actually choose movies to list in order for Rhys to pick one… so.. they both do?
Who initiates kissing during the movie, thus distracting the other from the movie all together:
Rhys? Although it could be both? Rhys sometimes doesnt really pay the movie any attention unless Finrod is actively explaining scenes to him like he usually does. I imagine kissing/making out during movies happens a lot. Rhys could smooch Finrod’s cheek/lips/jaw and it be returned then so on and so on, and vice versa. Also.. If they finish eating snacks and Rhys has food on his fingers ( idk maybe cheeto dust) and they get close to Finrod’s face, he may kiss the pad of one of Rhys’ fingers. Not really meaning it in a naughty way but he’ll definitely do it as a sweet affectionate gesture that can be interpreted in any way Rhys pleases.
Who orders lunch:
Does this mean in a restaurant? They order for themselves, although Finrod reads the menu to Rhys so he knows the options.
If this means ordering take-out then I think Finrod, even if they do have a braille house phone the phonebook isnt in braille unless Rhys memorized the number and wanted to order, or was home alone for what ever reason and wanted to order something? But generally if Rhys is home alone their food is always labeled in the fridge and in cabinets for him to easily fix himself. Plus, im not sure how Rhys would feel about a stranger bringing food to his door, and he wouldnt know how much money to give them. So i think its safe to say, Finrod is the one who orders take-out ordinarily.
Who steals food from the other’s plate without asking:
Finrod would never ( you dont steal food off a blind persons plate even if they can tell, unless eating popcorn or something thats meant to be shared) so i’ll say Rhys. Although it depends on if he knows what hes grabbing. If theyre eating dinner they have the same thing so theres no point. I think this would happen mostly when eating sweets or snacks, theyre easier to grab and Rhys lovesss sweets. Finrod doesnt mind either, he spoils Rhys
Who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a full tummy:
Both? They both do this a lot its hard to tell which does it more. Maybe Rhys, but Finrod would cuddle him right back and may or may not fall asleep with him. It depends, sometimes he likes watching him sleep for a while.
Who distracts the other from trying to work at home:
Well as adults, Rhys doesnt work at home because he answers phones at work, and Finrod is a gardener/landscaper so he doesnt work at home either. ( altho in the future he does take a music teaching job but thats so far into the future im not counting it)
But as teens they both distract each other from their homework all the time and often end up forgetting everything and making out.
Who asks to go get ice cream like a five year old:
Rhys XD boys got a sweet tooth
Who takes pictures of their partner eating ice cream:
Finrod
Who makes a sexual joke about the dripping ice cream on their partner’s face:
RHYS. Altho he couldnt see it, but if he knows its there or Finrod mentions ice cream dripping down his lips or chin, then yes. Rhys would be likely to say something.
Who cooks dinner:
Finrod, but Rhys helps like i mentioned above in the breakfast question, just Rhys almost always helps with dinner because its obviously not 7 am. It does depend on whats being cooked tho, something that requires a lot of chopping and cutting, like making homemade soup for example, there might not be able to help with aside from putting the chopped ingredients in the pot but Rhys will probs sit in there with him and can help make dessert if they make any. They usually only make dessert once a week or maybe once every week and a half depending how long it’ll last so they can have something to nibble on when they want it. They do have occassional unplanned treats tho like going out for ice cream, milkshakes, or some other kind of sweet. Either way, when ever Rhys can help, Finrod is more than happy to let him, he knows how Rhys likes it and its really enjoyable too. Like quality time.
Who cleans up the kitchen afterwards:
Finrod I think? But that is somewhat a group effort too to some extent. Rhys will help put dishes in the sink and maybe things like drying off the dishes and the counter after Finrod washes them? Only because washing the dishes is dangerous for Rhys, not that hes not capable of it, he could but washing knives would be extremely dangerous and he would have to feel everything to see if it was clean.. but again, knives would be dangerous because of that. So if Rhys did want to actually wash dishes one day it would have to be non sharp things and no glass, but Finrod washing and Rhys drying is a pretty good routine already so that will probably be what they stick with?
Who stays up until 2 reading:
They cant on work nights but they both do on the weekends. Readings is one of their favorite couple activities, it special. Finrod reads to Rhys while they cuddle and they enjoy it immensely.
Who stares at their partner while their sleeping:
Finrod
Who kisses their partner while they sleep:
They’ve probably both done it at one point. Finrod wakes Rhys up with kisses a lot and Finrod takes a lot of puppy like naps on Rhys’ shoulder so Rhys has probably kissed him a few times. Then there are just random mornings when one of them wakes up in the morning or after a nap and kisses the other. Maybe more Finrod since he wakes up Rhys with them every morning, but i feel like thats unfair bc they both do it. So its both

Meeting of Fire and Ice
Central City was clean and fresh and all the things that Star City was not, Mick hated it. The air was clean without any threat of fog or a pollution bomb threat. The children were laughing playing superhero in the street. Even the damn Mayor Office that he was marching towards looked like something out of a damn Hobbit movie that his secretary made him watch, why he hired that damn kid was beyond him, but one good word from Oliver Queen and Barry was at his door step.
Anyway, speaking of door steps, he was going to steal the Mayors if this improv meeting went any way other than his, which it most likely would. The Mayor of Central was a cold hearted bastard who gave nothing away. Mick was determined to change that.
“Morning, Mayor Snart’s office” He was greeted my a woman whose grin was wider and dirtier than a Cheshire cat. He liked her already.
“Mayor Snart” He grunted out, no being fooled by pretty women in glitter and gold. He learnt that one long time ago.
“He is and he will be more than happy to see you, hun” She winked, fucking winked, at him, pointing to the inordinate oak carved doors to the left with cooper snowflake handles. Mick couldn’t help the snort from his mouth. A giggle from behind him made it clear that the secretary definitely heard. Good.
Mick slammed the doors open, the jump from the bastard in the tight blue suit gave him a little smirk. Mick - 1, Mayor Snart - 0.
“Can i help you?” The look in Snart’s eyes was murderous, a good start.
“Yeah, you can help me by not stealing my towns money for the good of your roads” Mick stuck to the script that Barry wrote out for him so he wouldn’t ‘go off the rails and kill the Mayor cause Barry was not prepared to bail him out and deal with the press’. Mick couldn’t let the kid down now, could he, Ollie would try and have his head.
“My roads are far more important than any little gardening show that the place you call a town would hold"
"Listen here you inconsiderate, cold hearted bastard"
"Please Mick, buy me dinner before you start talking like that” Snart smirked and Mick refused to let it get under his skin or affected him in any other way. He came here for a reason and he was going to get what he wanted.
“That Garden Show was in memory of Moira Queen and will be going ahead even if i have to steal the money for you yourself!"
"Go ahead but the money for the roads is still all mine"
"No one cares about your damn roads, THINK OF THE PEONIES SNART"
"Not my type of flower, mICK"
"I will be getting my garden show and your roads will stay the same and cause your perfect little town to crumble and it will all because you managed to have all the money for the roads given to me, i promise you that” With that, Mick turned and marched out of the damn Mayors office, rolling his eyes at the secretary eating popcorn and saluting him as he left. Central City was full of fucking weirdos. He couldn’t wait to get out of here. He needed that “money that was to go towards something productive, Mr Rory.” A garden show was the most productive thing for Star City, especially over the roads of Central City that have one pot hole in the hundred that it has. Fucking Mayor Snart. Fucking Government.
(this is trash but i hope it makes you smile)

Best Indianapolis Restaurants
Here are all the best Indianapolis restaurants from two local foodies: Broad Ripple, downtown, breweries, sushi, and all the places to eat in Indianapolis.
Indianapolis is poised to become America’s next big destination says Travel + Leisure, and that couldn’t make us happier! My husband Alex and I are food & travel experts and cookbook authors who’ve lived in Indianapolis for the past 14 years. Since we’ve lived here, places to eat in Indianapolis have exploded into a renaissance of farm to table restaurants, farmer’s markets, hipster coffee shops, and local breweries. In short, Indy is where it’s at these days. So we’re excited to share with you all the best Indianapolis restaurants in the city we call home.
How we made this best Indianapolis restaurants list
People often ask us, what are the best restaurants in Indianapolis? Here’s our take: it’s hard to give a specific answer because it depends on what the occasion is (night out on the town? dinner with kids?) and where you are in the city. Because of that, our list of best Indianapolis restaurants is fairly large and organized by neighborhood. We’ve noted why we like them and what occasions they’re best for; we’ve also included Indianapolis breweries and coffee shops.
Alex and I have lived here for 14 years and eaten at a lot of Indianapolis restaurants. However, there are new restaurants in Indianapolis popping up each day! So, this is not an exhaustive list: it’s just the places to eat in Indianapolis we’ve been to multiple times and would recommend. Also disclaimer: our areas of most expertise are Broad Ripple restaurants and restaurants in downtown Indianapolis. There are lots of great restaurants in other areas– for example, the West side has lots of international food options that we’ve only just begun to explore! If you see a best Indianapolis restaurant you think we should try, give us a shout in the comments!
Buffalo cauliflower wings at Twenty Tap (Broad Ripple restaurant)
Broad Ripple Restaurants
Alex and I live in the Broad Ripple neighborhood, so naturally we’ve tried more Broad Ripple restaurants since we love to stay in our ‘hood. Here are the best Broad Ripple restaurants, breweries and coffee shops we enjoy.
Napolese
Dinner: A signature Broad Ripple restaurant, Napolese has truly great artisan pizza and fresh, inventive seasonal salads. It’s a perfect place for a date night, out with friends, or even to bring the kids. You can eat outside in the summer (our favorite). For a starter, get the baked goat cheese. Split a few of the salads and pizzas among the table: the Margarita pizza with quail egg is a must. It’s one of our favorite inspired Italian restaurants in Indianapolis.
Related: Our Baked Goat Cheese with Fire Roasted Tomatoes recipe inspired by Napolese!
Ukiyo
Dinner: Perfect for a date night, Ukiyo is a Japanese fusion restaurant has incredible small plates and sushi served in a trendy atmosphere. The omakase is a special tasting menu prepared by the chef that you have to reserve in advance; it’s available Fridays and Saturdays.
Bar One Fourteen
Dinner / cocktails: Bar One Fourteen feels like you’ve walked into a hip club in Paris, but you’re still in Indianapolis! It’s super dark and serves great cocktails and trendy French-inspired food. Perfect for date night! Their truffle burger is the best burger in town. The popovers are also fabulous. It’s another in the Patachou family of restaurants (which includes Napolese and Public Greens).
Patachou / Petit Chou
Breakfast / lunch: An old standby for lunch and brunch, Patachou has straightforward, really good real food served in a fresh atmosphere. The vegan Cuban breakfast and tomato artichoke soup are our faves. It has great vegetarian and vegan options. Petit Chou is Patachou’s the French bistro sister and has a lovely French menu. Petit Chou also serves dinner.
Related: Our Tomato Artichoke Soup recipe inspired by Patachou!
Broken yolk margherita pizza at Napolese (Broad Ripple restaurants)
Just Pop In
Lunch / snacks & drinks: Located on the main strip in Broad Ripple, Just Pop In is a gourmet popcorn bar featuring small plates, beer, wine, and bubbles. The setting is super trendy and the patio is open in warm weather. When we’re in Broad Ripple, we love stopping by for a snack and a drink. The hummus platter is one of our favorites in town.
Public Greens
Lunch / Casual dinner: Broad Ripple restaurant Public Greens is super casual fresh, delicious food served cafeteria style. What we love about Public Greens is it offers veggie forward, delicious food without a big wait. It’s right next to the Monon Trail, so the patio is perfect in warm weather. The menu is constantly changing and it’s perfect for families. Some of our favorites: fries, the vegan chili, and their many salads. Public Greens dedicates its profits to The Patachou Foundation, which feeds at-risk and food insecure children in the Indianapolis community.
Related: Our Quinoa Black Bean Vegan Chili recipe inspired by Public Greens!
Petit Chou (Broad Ripple restaurants)
The Garden Table
Breakfast / lunch: The Garden Table features fresh juices and healthy, plant based foods along with heartier, meaty ones. Our favorite location is the downtown location because of its trendy vibe; it also serves dinner. See below.
Related: Our Vegan Banh Mi Sandwich recipe inspired by The Garden Table!
Ezra’s
Breakfast / lunch: For the hardcore plant lover, Ezra’s features raw, vegan and gluten free foods in a casual and brightly colored atmosphere. It’s perfect for breakfast and brunch. Our favorite is the Buddha bowl: lots of veggies with delicious savory raw falafel balls. They also have some inventive vegan and gluten free dessert creations.
Related: Our Raw Falafel Buddha Bowl recipe inspired by Ezra’s!
Nicey Treat
Sweet treat: It’s not a Broad Ripple restaurant per say, but for a sweet treat look no further than Nicey Treat! It’s a seasonal, local gourmet popsicle company. All of their flavors are insanely good: think pina colada, avocado, strawberry mint, and frozen hot chocolate. Our favorite? Almond butter dipped in dark chocolate (a $1 adder and totally worth it).
Gallery Pastry Shop
Sweet treat / brunch: Gallery Pastry Shop is one of our favorites, offering supremely high quality pastries in a trendy but relaxed atmosphere. They’re well known for their macaroons (hit them on Wednesdays for $1 macaroon day!). Gallery is a perfect meeting spot for coffee and a croissant, or brunch any time of the week.
Cake Bake
Sweet treat / lunch: If you’re looking for a spot for a girl date, Cake Bake Shop is sumptuously decorated with all things pink and sparkly! It’s outfitted like a Parisian fairytale and serves enormous three layer cakes, pies, and pastries, most of them topped with glitter. They also have some savory lunch options like sandwiches. I take our niece here for tea and cake on a little date every year.
Pots & Pans Pie Shoppe (Broad Ripple restaurants)
Pots & Pans Pie Shoppe
Sweet treat / snack: Pots & Pans is very new and we’ve only visited once, but we added them to our list because it’s a fun little spot to grab a pie. Boasting artisan savory and sweet pies, you can head over for their Vegan Pot Pie or Biscuits and Gravy Pot Pie as a meal, or a fruit pie as a sweet treat. They serve our favorite local coffee roasters, Blue Mind Roasting, and have a quaint vibe. !
Fat Dan’s
Dinner / drinks: Looking for greasy bar food in a Chicago style deli and pub? Fat Dan’s is where it’s at for a splurge, though we’re more into healthy food, Their fries are our favorite in the city, and come out on a big sheet of parchment paper perfectly salty and crisp. If you’re into wings, their wings are to die for. And don’t worry, they’ve also got a great veggie burger!
Twenty Tap
Dinner / drinks: Twenty Tap is a Broad Ripple institution serving tons of craft brews and delicious casual food with a veggie-centric twist! It’s a place where you can get a huge burger or Vegan Jackfruit Tacos on the same menu! Another favorite was their Brussels sprouts served with harissa and goat cheese, which inspired us to make our own rendition!
Related: Our Brussels Sprouts with Harissa and Goat Cheese, inspired by Twenty Tap!
Bluebeard (downtown Indianapolis)
Restaurants in Downtown Indianapolis
There are so many restaurants in downtown Indianapolis it’s hard to keep track! Here are some of our fast favorites of places to eat in Indianapolis. Again, we’ve mentioned restaurants that fit various occasions. Because best Indianapolis restaurants means the best restaurant for the occasion: be it lunch, girls night, date night, or drinks.
Bluebeard (downtown Indianapolis)
Bluebeard
Dinner / drinks: Perfect for date night or a night on the town, Bluebeard is one of our Indy faves, serving up sophisticated Italian inspired small and large plates. In its first year, Bluebeard was a James Beard Award semi-finalist for Best New Restaurant. Named after a book by Indianapolis native Kurt Vonnegut, and the dining room showcases a variety of books and typewriters to fit with the literary theme. The cocktails are great (their gin and tonic is my favorite in the city) and the revolving menu of seasonal inspired dishes is always spot on.
Tinker Street
Dinner: Tinker Street is another great spot for a night out. Enjoy sophisticated, farm to table food in a cozy urban cottage. The dinner menu is always inspired and excellent.
Goose The Market
Lunch: A lovely lunch spot and gourmet grocery, Goose The Market has locally cured meats and an extensive cheese counter, as well as lots of local Indiana products. Head to the basement and you’ll find an assortment of wines. For lunch, order a prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich and wash it down with a glass of white wine. Oh and there’s gelato!
Shoefly Public House
Dinner: Shoefly Public House has a casual atmosphere with great food, perfect for a family dinner or a night out. The menu is always changing, but we love their sweet potato fries with various tosses, and their vegan meatloaf with gravy is very tasty. Think comfort food, with lots of veggie options.
Provider
Coffee / lunch: Provider is our favorite place to grab a drink on the way to downtown Indianapolis. It’s quickly made a name for itself as a coffee shop and bar, but they also have a light menu. We’ve tried a vegan banh mi that was very tasty, and their cocktails are fabulous. The atmosphere is trendy but laid back: the perfect place for working meetings, settling in with a laptop, or meeting a friend for a drink.
The Garden Table (downtown Indianapolis)
Garden Table Downtown
Breakfast / lunch / dinner: The Garden Table’s downtown Indianapolis location is picture perfect for Instagram, and we love the menu selection! It’s full of fresh squeezed juices and healthy vegan and vegetarian options set off by meatier comfort foods. It’s perfect for weekend brunch: and the downtown location also offers dinner. It has the best acai bowl in town.
Related: Our Homemade Acai Bowl recipe!
Nada
Brunch / lunch / dinner: Nada is a fun, colorfully designed space to enjoy gourmet Mexican downtown. Their habanero “kreeper” salsa is to die for (if you like a little spice), as is the queso. They’ve got delicious tacos and large plates; a great spot for dinner with family, or a night out.
Milktooth (downtown Indianapolis)
Milktooth
Brunch / lunch: Milktooth immediately attracted national attention for its inventive brunch menu. This fine diner has become one of the most lauded restaurants in downtown Indianapolis! It’s brunchy comfort food served up in a quaint old gas station. Think massive sourdough waffles and inventive takes like deconstructed Chicago dog risotto.
Rook
Rook offers up street food inspired contemporary Asian fusion, and it’s over the top delicious. It’s perfect for a date night or night on the town. Think fried avocado steamed buns, glass noodle salad, and curry ramen.
Related: Our Easy Vegetarian Ramen inspired by Rook!
Asaka (Indianapolis sushi)
Sushi in Indianapolis
Alex and I are big sushi fans. While Indiana is landlocked, there’s still some great sushi in Indianapolis. Here are some of our favorites for sushi in Indianapolis:
Asaka
A family run business, Asaka serves up super high quality sushi in a cozy atmosphere, made by woman sushi chef Nina Takamure. The party platters are insanely beautiful, and all the fish is insanely fresh. Unexpectedly, the kabocha squash roll is incredible: savory sweet with a crunch of tempura. It’s up in the Castleton area so it’s harder for us to access, but it’s absolutely worth a mention.
Ukiyo
As mentioned above, Ukiyo is a Broad Ripple restaurant that also serves sushi. There are traditional rolls along with inventive takes, like yellowtail and green apple.
Sakura
Sakura is straightforward, classic sushi served up just outside of Broad Ripple. It’s next to nearby Sakura Market, a lovely Japanese grocery that stocks a lot of Asian specialty products.
Other Indianapolis restaurants
Here are a few more Indianapolis restaurants that deserve a mention but didn’t quite fit in the categories:
Oakley’s Bistro is a fantastic restaurant in the Castelton area; it’s got very high quality, sophisticated and inventive food.
Cafe Korea in Fishers serves up our favorite dolsot bibimbap in Indianapolis.
Duos is a favorite for lunch or catering: they have locations around the city and their vegetarian food is out of this world.
Hotel Tango is a local distillery that’s great for drinks: every time we’ve tried to go it’s been closed, so we’ll report back!
Best Indianapolis breweries
So, what are the best Indianapolis breweries? The craft brew scene has blown up so fast that we can hardly keep up with all of the great breweries around town. Our friends over at the Drink Culture podcast helped us to put together this list of their top 5 Indianapolis breweries. You can find them on draft at bars and restaurants around Indianapolis, or check out their breweries for tours and tastings!
Your thoughts?
There are so many other Indianapolis restaurants that are fantastic: some that we haven’t discovered, and others in the suburban areas! Our list includes what we find to be the best restaurants in Indianapolis proper that we’ve been to multiple times and enjoy. We’d love to know your thoughts on other Indianapolis restaurants that you love! Also, we’ll be constantly updating this best Indianapolis restaurants guide. Continue to check back in the future to find all our current restaurant recommendations!
