are there any fish (true fish) that had legs at one point in their evolutionary lifecycle? like how whales and other aquatic mammals at one point lived on land. did any fish live on land at any point?
#sorry ive got fish on my mind#and specifically their evolution#i saw a post about frilled sharks so i looked them up and found out they're prehistoric#and My Beloved coelacanth is always on my mind#and also ive had an interest in fossils ever since i was a kid

fuck it. my name is dinosaurvalley. im making a big post of my ideal revamped dinosaur valley
ok so first off, the vibe is already immaculate. the thunder and howling wind is essential. the fucking, tinkling noises? the little crystal-y shiny noises i could do without. but whatever
the kallstone. there should be more of it. there should be places where you can see it poking out of the ground, maybe not a lot and only in remote areas but it should be there
there was an expedition to the valley in 1912. something called the great collapse happened. nic says he’ll tell me more another time and i dont have great memory, so if he ever explained then i dont know. but i think there should be evidence of the expedition somewhere. old busted up structures or something.
there NEEDS to be a fucking building. the outdoor cafe and lean to for the horses is fucking killing me. and the shops need to have stores, AND THE SHOP OWNERS NEED TO HAVE WARM CLOTHES. i know they sell warm stuff but nobody is dressed for the damn weather!!! no immersion! berzelius the engineer is in a skirt!
the kallters shouldnt have fjords. why on earth do the kallters have fjords. i know theyre all gone but bring the kallters back and give them their own jwh variant.
hollow woods made me think of this, but they need to make more cold (not holiday, cold) themed magic horses and let them roam around the area. i know only one place does this but come on it would be perfect. not too many though
related to that, when did they add foxes to the valley of frozen mist?? no opinion on that just when did it happen
there should be a ranger station for alien research next to the main hub building or down the road or something. dont clutter the area too much, but just give it some more stuff to do or see. maybe a couple more races. give it a home stable too
those ice huts??? add more of them. love those things. are they yeti houses? no idea. but i want more.
that ice hook area? 10/10, only one note, make the back of the area more giant cliffs so it doesnt look like a ridge that can be climbed over really easily. idk why it looks like that. its goofy
for the love of god, hide the dinosaur. its called the valley of the hidden dinosaur. hide the fucking dinosaur. put it in frozen mist valley or have it sticking partially out of the mountains. please just… hide the dinosaur. and also its not even a fucking dinosaur
add more fossils? like there are tons of well known prehistoric marine animals. add some fuckoff massive ammonites in the walls. have orthoceras fossils sticking up out of the ground. schools of fish in the ground. trilobites. sorry i just started thinking about prehistoric animals again what was i talking about
igor and frank einstein? perfect. no notes. keep them. also the frozen vet. keep her.
upgrade nic stoneground. make him a dilf. do it sse come on d (i am forcibly removed)
#normal guy noises#dinosaur valley#sso#star stable online#ssoblr#<- im still scared of using that tag

What does your skin feel like? Is it smooth and rubbery? Scaly? Or perhaps slimy?
Under that thick, plated armor there is a sort of sliminess like that of nearly all fish. I am a bit rubbery, but not quite smooth… I don’t have fully evolved scales either.
I’m trying to get used to my snacks having scales though!!! Scales are really just starting to become a thing and honestly all that new texture does is just make my life harder. It’s a major change and currently i hate it but I’m hungry as can be.

Star feathers are unique, they have high resemblance to pre-historic aquatic fauna; plants. Just like horseshoe crabs, their existence as a subset of species dates back to millenniums.
These are mobile versions of crinoids, that's a member of animalia (animal organisms), their original predecessors that came first --- the prehistoric plant-versions of crinoids that were rooted in the sea's sand as shown in the bottom figure were also animalia, but have differences in mobility. The rooted plant crinoids are among the oldest prehistoric members of lifeforms that dates back to even before the Cambrian explosion period. Fossils of crinoids are often seen in fossil marketplaces, alongside fake's, but these more recent versions of crinoids which have genetically adapted through evolution to thrive and live outside of the sand and actually swim amongst other fish, it was a characteristic often seen in the ocean's habitat.

Pretty sure I have a good guess as to this week's Bestiary Posting animal, so I'm just gonna go totally off the rails for this one.
My thought process was as follows: Three rows of teeth means it must be a shark. And it would be fun to draw a fish, since I haven't done one for this challenge yet. But oh no, it has 'powerful feet'. Fish don't have feet. You know what does have powerful feet though? Mollusks. Mollusks have feet. It's described as having eyes though. What mollusks have eyes? That's right. Cephalopods!
Hence, the Mlekragg is a cephalopod.
Yes, it is a stretch, but sometimes with this challenge I like to imagine I'm an alien illustrator with no concept of what animals humans would regularly encounter. While most humans would probably assume this is a terrestrial mammal, there's no reason an alien would. In fact, considering how many more invertebrates there are then vertebrates, it makes sense for an outside observer to assume any animals described by humans is an inveterate, unless it says otherwise. It's all very sound alien logic, and not just me making wild leaps because I want my imaginary bestiary to have some more variety beyond my favorite birds and mammals. I'm really trying to use this challenge to be more imaginative and crazy with creature designs, and think outside the box when I can.
Anywho, the cuttlefish and nautilus were my main points of reference, though I did look at some reconstructions of prehistoric cephalopods for inspiration. Then I simply took all the elements of the Mlekragg and slapped it onto that body form. The triple row of teeth can't be seen in my drawing, but it is located where a cephalopod's beak would typically be. The 'face of a man' is actually a pattern on it's hood it uses to fool predators. Behind the hood flares out a 'lion's mane', which it uses for display and also to disorient it's prey when it snatches it up. It has a pointed "tail" with a stinger. It doesn't look much like a scorpion's tail - took a bit of artistic liberty and decided it just stings like a scorpion's tail, rather then looks like it. I've decided to interpret 'powerful feet' and 'good jumper' as two different traits. So it's 'powerful feet' are it's tentacles, but it uses it's stinger to leap. Why does a sea creature need to leap? Well, I imagine they live near coasts and occasionally get stranded in tide pools or on land and use their stingers to propel themselves back into the water. It kind of works like a springtail's little 'tail'. Much like the description says, no obstacle can keep the Mlekragg in!
On the bottom right I've drawn a picture of one using it's stinger to leap, and on the left I've drawn a cartoon version of it that accentuates the lion shape/human face idea. With it's tentacles and mane laid back and it's fins hanging down it does look like a little leaping lion. I also gave it a little grin in keeping with the cartoon tradition of putting cephalopod mouths on the mantle, which we know is incorrect. It does make him look like a very personable little gentleman though.
I feel if I were a bit more confident in drawing cephalpods and knew more about mollusk anatomy I could've maybe taken this in an even wilder direction. Maybe I'll revisit it in the future.

Can we get some Timkonbart sharing one braincell?
They have 4 YouTube channels
Tim does in-depth unsolved mystery theories with compelling evidence and field visits. His most viewed video is visiting the Zodiac Killer site with Bernard
Bart's has detailed explanations of quantum physics and debunking scientific misconceptions. His most popular video is him (figuratively) ripping apart a flat-earther
Kon candidly talks about the ups and downs of superhero life and gives advice to younger vigilantes, including his most famous one where he puts on a Justice League drag show for Pride
Their joint channel? Tortilla slapping, grenade football, meat smoothies, 3-person sweaters, duct tape leg waxing, blindfolded biking, stair sledding, plugging in a suspicious USB…
They get in trouble after saving a city
Tim receives intel about an alien attack in Paris and comes up with a complex battle strategy on the flight there
Kon takes out the flying drones in a single calculated laser zigzag while catching a falling citizen
Bart clears the area and uses his powers to shoot the bad guys back into the prehistoric era after distracting them
Post-battle, they get stopped by French police who ask for their passports and they're like "uh…"
Tim falls asleep on the break room couch. Kon comes in and puts a blanket over him. Bart adds a blanket on top. Kon adds another. Then Bart adds another. They keep adding blankets, forgetting there's someone underneath until Tim rises like a zombie
They sneak alcohol from Wayne Manor, forgetting Kon and Bart can't get drunk. So it's just Tim half-asleep and stumbling after several drinks and they have to cover it up before any adults figure out, so Kon controls Tim's limbs like a marionette with his TTK while Bart does a ventriloquist trick he learned at circus camp to make Tim seem like he's talking
Every year, they have a Young Justice picnic. And every year, there's zero coordination. Which means all of them bring paper plates and no one brings food
Bart asks for a hot dog. Kon suggests they make it a footlong. Tim then adds double of each topping. Then it's spilling everywhere so they wrap it in a tortilla. But then the tortilla starts coming undone so Tim texts Alfred who suggests using egg ad a binding agent. But they can't leave it raw so they dip the whole thing in egg and bake it. Then for fun, Kon adds salsa and melted cheese. And that's how they get cheddaregghotdogurrito
Tim and Bart start a group chat for Kon's surprise party… with Kon
The same thing happens for Tim's birthday
One time they see a subway train out of commission so they're like "can we have it" and the city's like "sure" so they take it and convert it into one really long bed
They try to fish in the desert. They're convinced (in part by Bernard) that there's a lake under the desert with New Secret Fish so they drill a small hole for a fishing line and wait
The first time washing blood out of their uniforms, they go on google and get a whole list of things to remove bloodstains then make the Ultimate Turbo Stain Remover by mixing detergent, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, Coke, cornstarch, and baby power in a hot tub. Then they climb in and regret everything
They talk about what they wanna name their kids. Kon says he wants 3 kids and he'll name them all Tim Jr. and Tim's like "they can't be Tim Jr. if I'm not their dad, that's not how it works" and Kon's like "can too" and they go back-and-forth, meanwhile Bart says he wants to name his Snorlak

I really loved @gwaedhannen ‘s post about wanting more strangeness in First Age Beleriand and I had a post awhile back about potential strange ecology for Middle Earth so I wanted to revisit it with some more thoughts!
Following up to my speculative biology ideas for elves,
Like the last list, these are more jotting down ideas, please please feel free to give me any to elaborate on!
Mammoths on the Helcaraxë and other cold reaches. Tolkien talks of all creatures that walk or have ever walked the earth existing in Valinor and throughout Arda hence prehistoric and extinct species can also exist here. I do also headcanon smaller herds of woolly mammoths and woolly rhinos in northern Hithlum and north of greater Beleriand. Stellar’s sea cows in the frozen waters:(
Early cenozoic aquatic birds such as Hesperornis off the coasts of Balar and Alqualondë.
Enchanted orchards of Valinor; large, seemingly abandoned self containing gardens and orchards. There are fruit tree orchards hidden behind ivy covered walls; some always filled with Autumn breezes, citrus groves always kept warm and bright lined with lemon trees and deep green grass. Except for the Maia who tend them, the only beings who enter the orchards are elves who do so, usually by mistake.
There are places throughout Arda where the Music was not well, loud, enough. They can be the size of a footstep or a field and are not fully connected to the space time continuum. Those who tread on them will end up elsewhere in time or space and will never realize what had happened.
In the great expanses of unexplored Valinor, there are coves, glens, lagoons, and all sorts of other places that seem shift and change, being there one day and not the next. Even while walking through familiar, charted territory, there is always the possibility of ending up in a hidden clearing, covered in hanging mosses and with strange lights all around.
The forests of Beleriand are full of strange, sometimes dark creatures that have never been properly documented. They are the strange hybrids of Yavanna’s creations and Melkor’s corruption and a few have escaped the eyes of even the Ainur.
The underground lakes of Middle Earth, especially around Angband contain blind, hungry beings, nourished by the volcanic soils. Strange fungi and lichen stick to the walls of the caverns and passageways beneath the fortress.
There are hot springs in several locations in Beleriand South of the Ered Wethrin (there are many in the Ered Wethrin of course but these are not exactly relaxation destinations). Namely in Himring, throughout Hithlum, north of Barad Eithel, parts of Dorthonion, in the caves of Androth, and parts of the Ered Luin. Not all of these are used by residents and not all maintain safe temperatures or conditions but some do! In many parts of Northern Beleriand, they're used for bathing and communal relaxation. There are other springs throughout the March of Maedhros and I like the idea of Himring being built around a hot spring. There are hot and warm springs in both Nargothrond and Menengroth. The definition of warm springs differs from hot springs only in average temperature
The caves of Menengroth and Nargothrond allow elves and others access to the strange wonders of the underground world of Middle Earth. They are lit by lanterns and by certain bioluminescent plants. There are windows in key areas that allow sunlight to filter into some of the larger halls and though there are small gardens of species that do not require direct sunlight, some are stationed in the areas where sunlight filters in. A small tributary of the river Narog flows directly through one of the great halls of Nargothrond. Its flora and fauna remain untouched by the elves and algae and aquatic plants as well as small fish, salamanders in their early stages, and stranger creatures are visible to see for those who walk along it.
In realms with Ainur or certain Eldar rule, natural life may not follow typical laws. Melian has great influence over the biodiversity and climate of Doriath for example even without meaning to.
The horror potential of the boundaries of the girdle or of Nan Elmoth. Time and space distorting, the forest becoming a maze, bird calls confusing and disorienting unwary or unlucky travelers
The Ered Gorgoroth, the eerie, mysterious mountain range, bordered to the north by Dorthonion and to the south by Nan Dungortheb. It was said the spawn of Ungolian haunted these mountains and the valley. I have some more posts on this but I've always imagined there being many pools and meres in Ered Gorgoroth, many harmless though frigid and some completely corrupted by the powers of Ungoliants spawn and other beings. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to know which was which until it was too late.
Chemical reactions causing glimmering or colorful water. Elves learn carefully when this has occurred due to natural phenomena and when it is the result of unnatural influence or Ainur presence.
Salt lakes and landlocked waters mimicking ocean conditions. I’ve always imagined there being a lake like lake Baikal in the March of Maedhros
More Bioluminescence
The realms draped in dragon reek especially around Nargothrond. The pools of Ivrin are ruined by Glaurung and they are the source of the river Narog, the largest tributary to Sirion. The entire land could be poisoned. I imagine that plants wither or lose color, birds and frogs stay silent, animals are thrown off of their natural cycles, The orchards in the hills barren or producing foul fruit, strange happenings resulting from drinking from the river Narog or even eating animals that drank from it…
Alternatively the effects of the water where the power of Ulmo is still strong such as in Nan Tathren or the Twilit Meres
#the silmarillion#beleriand#musing and meta#Valinor#Doriath#ered gorgoroth#I hope these are ok I’m very tired

welcome to birds daily!!
this is my blog where i draw a bird every single day! the idea was completely ripped off from one of my best friends of all time, @fish-daily !! please go check him out :0)
my name is sunny and i'm a wildlife biology major and art minor from michigan. i'm 21 years old and i use they/them pronouns!
i'm here because i love birds so much, and i'm assuming if you're following then you do too!!
IMPORTANT INFO BELOW!!
what to know before you request
please check if i've drawn a bird before you request it! if you don't want to scroll through everything, all my birds are tagged by order. don't know the order of your bird? look it up! the IOC world bird list has a great resource for this.
i tag them by name, but some birds have multiple common names.
i also have a spreadsheet of every bird i've done so far! but i can definitely see myself forgetting to update this, so it's best to double check.
any avian dinosaur archaeopteryx-and-beyond can be requested! many ornithologists consider avialae to be the cutoff for "modern" birds.
i can't guarantee full-accuracy of prehistoric birds as i'm not very well-versed in paleontology.
please keep asks to only one bird! feel free to send multiple asks though. if you include multiple birds in an ask i'll just pick one. when i answer the ask to post it, the other birds will be gone forever...
i will prioritize requests in the order i received them in, but a couple times a week i might draw a personal pick instead.
not accepting duplicate birds doesn't mean you can't request a different version of the same bird, which leads me to…
sexual dimorphism and seasonal plumage!
yes! you can request different plumages and sexes of a bird i've already done! want to see a female ruddy duck? of course! want the breeding plumage of the willow ptarmigan? absolutely!
i have sex, maturity, and plumage recorded on my spreadsheet, but i'm bound to make some mistakes on there. once again, double-checking my blog is your best bet to getting accurate bird info!
if you don't specify anything, i'm going to assume the basic mature male with breeding plumage that you come to expect from a bird.
breeding and non-breeding plumage can also be called summer and winter plumage. some birds also have special names for their plumage forms. just to keep things consistent i'll be referring to it as breeding and non-breeding!
final notes
my main blog is @eggpathy if you're interested in any of my other art! i forget to post there a lot. most of my art is on my twitter under the same name (trying to move here though)
i'm a full-time college student with a job, so some days i won't be able to get a bird out. sometimes i might even have to take a few days to a week off just to keep my sanity. this doesn't mean i'm not having fun and enjoying drawing birds! it just means i'm busy and maybe need time for other things
i'm also still human. this means i WILL MAKE MISTAKES! i have not finished my degree yet and i'm still learning! one of the big reasons i made this account was to help myself learn my birds! i take extra time out of my day to find facts to post with my birds, and sometimes those are wrong. if you see me post misinfo, please kindly correct me with a comment, dm, or tag!
any post that isn't a daily bird will be tagged #not birds. any post that is a daily bird will be tagged #birds.
please feel free to add extra fun facts, info, and generally any other silly comment in the tags. i love reading them and they make my day!
asks don't have to be request-related! feel free to ask me anything :0)
thanks for reading! peent!

- Welcome, archaeological Japanists, to the third chapter of prehistoric Japan and continue touring its mythological and magical places. Having said that, put yourself in command and let's begin. - To continue our journey, better late than never, but slowly and with good handwriting. We move to the Sannai Maruyama archaeological site in Aomori prefecture, located in the Tōhoku region. - The wooden structure dates back to the Jomon period, it is a structure that functioned as a great calendar, since something common that all cultures in the world have is worshiping the stars in regards to prehistory. The site dates back to 3900 BC located along the Okidate River at the tip of a gentle hill that extends from the Hakkoda Mountains. - In the 1992s, excavations took place that unearthed the remains of dwellings in wells, graves of adults, children and storage pits, among other traces of daily life. In addition to one there are a large number of stoneware tools. A wide variety of fish and animal bones have been excavated that indicate the eating habits of those people. Nuts such as chestnuts and walnuts were also found. In addition, many organic relics have been unearthed, such as wooden products, bone tools, woven baskets, as well as trade items such as jade, obsidian from remote areas, and asphalt. There is a theory: in Iwate similar structures are created to perform the deer dance. What do you think about it? _ I hope you liked it and see you in future posts my lovers of the Japanese world, have a good week.
