one of my favorite traits about book armand is that he's just kind of Rude. he will just say shit and not give a fuck. it's very funny. I have a theory that the more he loves someone the more this trait increases because he tends to be the rudest about lestat and daniel but he also just says "everyone hates gabrielle" for no fucking reason and he's not very nice to david either so I think he's just like that. the only difference is whether he's being rude (affectionate) or rude (derogatory).

Reading TVL and realising that (show) Lestat lied about going into the earth for 100 years after Nicki died!! Because he actually met Marius shortly after Nicki's death, and then met Akasha and Enkil and was sworn to secrecy...and THEN met Louis in NOLA...

They have to make that clear in S3 surely.

(it feels so obvious now but the timeline is really confusing if you haven't read the books)

but.....given that R cards for bday3 are in some way connected to the flashback in the SSR, my prediction is: marius purposely flunked, giann found out, got worried n scolded him, marius admits he did this bc he doesnt want to be CEO ("i dont want those shares") and/or for attention so theyd spend more time with him ("i just want my brother and father")

happy halloween kuu!! and if you’re looking for game recs, I have a few!! I don’t know what’s going on but lately I’ve been playing so much games these past week like it’s insane 😭😭 but onto the recs! I’ve been playing reverse: 1999, which is a gacha game that recently came out and it’s about the protagonist going back in time to save all the arcanist in history from being obliterated by a “storm” (at least that’s what I took from it), the art style is so pretty and the story is really good! I also recommend akuneko,, which I haven’t played yet but I heard good things about it and the main cast are literally devil cat butlers,, so what more can I ask! Plus the art style is REALLY pretty,, like they got the gothic victorian aesthetic down to a t,, it’s that good! Also another game I have been heavily considering downloading is path to nowhere,, like I have no idea what’s it about but I saw this pretty red hair women on my tl and i was sold SKSKSKSKSJSN (I realize this is more of recommendations of games I heard and think that were good rather than games I actually played that were good but you have to trust me on this 😭🙏🏼🙏🏼)

so! there are a couple of accounts about the return of Marius and Cinna, I've chosen Appian's account for the primary source of inspiration, although I've cut the cast down to it's barest essentials because I want the claustrophobia of violence to really eat itself.

Cinna now began to despise his enemies and drew near to the wall, halting out of range, and encamped. Octavius and his party were undecided and fearful, and hesitated to attack him on account of the desertions and the negotiations. The Senate was greatly perplexed and considered it a dreadful thing to depose Lucius Merula, the priest of Jupiter, who had been chosen consul in place of Cinna, and who had done nothing wrong in his office. Yet on account of the impending danger it reluctantly sent envoys to Cinna again, and this time as consul. They no longer expected favourable terms, so they only asked that Cinna should swear to them that he would abstain from bloodshed. He refused to take the oath, but he promised nevertheless that he would not willingly be the cause of anybody's death. He directed, however, that Octavius, who had gone round and entered the city by another gate, should keep away from the forum lest anything should befall him against his own will. He replied that he would never desert the city while he was consul. So he withdrew from the forum to the Janiculum with the nobility and what was left of his army, where he occupied the curule chair and wore the robes of office, attended as consul by lictors. Here he was attacked by Censorinus with a body of horse, and again his friends and the soldiers who stood by him urged him to fly and brought him his horse, but he disdained even to arise, and awaited death. Censorinus cut off his head and carried it to Cinna, and it was suspended in the forum in front of the rostra, the first head of a consul that was so exposed. After him the heads of others who were slain were suspended there; and this shocking custom, which began with Octavius, was not discontinued, but was handed down to subsequent massacres.

Plutarch's biography of Marius also recounts the same event, but I was leaning more on Appian for this.

ALSO! the choice to use Giovanni Battista Tiepolo's painting The Capture of Carthage as a backdrop to Octavius: it's because Cinna and Octavius were co consuls for a minute and Rome and Carthage are twin cities (instar Carthaginis urbem babyyy), and I do love the doubling/twin-ification of a thing. which is what co consuls are to me. we're overlapping the themes, in addition to the overlapping of violence, which is what all iterations of Rome are founded on.

I like to think The Mechanisms on the UDAD planet/city, they went to the Olympians fancy parties and spent the entire time laughing behind the Olympics backs. Most of them had some social standing, Ashes would bring Persephone Tim as their date and would occasionally invite Johnny, who shows up drunk and covered in blood, but none of the Olympians kick him out because they find him entertaining (and because they are more intermediated by Hades then any of them are willing to admit.) Marius definitely overcharged all the Olympians for his therapy services and knows enough about all of their personal lives to spread some interesting stories around the fancy finger foods. Having an Oracal at your party makes for great conversation starter and Brian gives accurate predictions (some times to accurate, Oedipus did not like being told about his motherfucking while high in front of all the Olympians and several reporters.) The Toy Soldier is one of Dionysuses current favorites so it spends most nights at high society parties anyway, but it quite liked pretending to not know the crew as it fittered around, singing and severing drinks.

Basically, I just think they all liked dressing up and watching the Olympians act all superior. It makes destroying them feel all the better after all.

Thinking about how the interest in art dealing is something Armand picked up from Louis. He had some interest in art before - we saw he was a regular at the Louvre. (This is definitely at least somewhat tied into his time with Marius.) But art dealing - predicting what would eventually be seen as important, what would gain monetary value - that is something from Louis. When Louis is showing him the latest find in the 2.06 flashbacks, Armand seems puzzled at what people would see in it. (Meanwhile in the present day, he's taking offers on the Francis Bacon triptych they have hanging in their penthouse.) But he also seems somewhat puzzled at the entire concept of purposefully buying things at low value and then later selling them at high - he refers to Louis as the first capitalist vampire. This later extends to Louis investing in real estate he thinks is currently undervalued. It seems like this is something Armand and Louis do together, but I doubt it would have occurred to Armand to try this if he had not gotten involved with Louis.

But then I doubt Armand had much interest in theatre before meeting Lestat.

I think this really speaks to Armand's lack of sense of self. While obviously very controlling in his relationships, he also needs someone else to show him how to live. He goes from Children of Darkness coven leader to Theatre des Vampires coven leader to vampire capitalist, depending on who he was most currently influenced by.

Louis saying it was a betrayal and that he wants to be punished for it just when he finds happiness again via a hallucination of Lestat is so... ugh. Louis, honey, god. Also him imagining Lestat biting him - as a punishment, but he also wants it so badly, baring his neck, not trying to fight it, offering himself up there, he just wants the connection so badly. 😭 And god, Louis having Lestat call him out on his own denial. Damn. And Louis knowing he invited this Lestat as a distraction.

Also... that was definitely foreshadowing to how Louis will think the trial went.

And of course it would be a bat. Of course.™

Claudia driving them onwards, not giving one shit is just... incredible. Delainey is Claudia.

I was also right that she honed her senses and available gifts, more than Louis has his (which fits)

Not only is Louis aware of forgotten memories now, he actively pursues them, and he has apparently read the missing pages before. And knows he has forgotten.

Claudia's diaries are unreliable, too (as predicted). Also, Louis correcting his own tale there, lol. Also: Armand‘s look and suggestion there.
