(That comic of mine is on its way - wanted to share the little ones from the current wip haha - EDIT: no longer wip!)
#it is SO HARD to find refs for Mikey and Donnie pre mutation#I donāt even think I did them right#hell I donāt think I did RAPH right either#Leo is the main one to get a spotlight - my boyās got that pretty privilege smh#so many reference images to choose from for him#which is hilarious because heās the only one I didnāt need a ref for#but yeah I hope these areā¦close enough lol#I pretty much just made Donnie Long and Mikey Round and hoped for the best#honestly I made Mikey so close to the camera so I couldnāt mess him up much hahaā¦Donnieās the one Iām most convinced I got wrong#these guys are literally in one drawing but stillll#comic has been super fun so far I hope to get it done soon#if any of them are TOO off feel free to let me know Iām more than happy to fix em quick haha#EDIT: Donnie has been changed to be MARKEDLY flatter lol

Okay, so - hear me out here - Mikey is actually the oldest. He doesn't occupy the space of the eldest child in the family, he's still the youngest in that regard, but he's been alive the longest and Splinter just didn't think about it when he assigned their birthdays/ages. Raph was the biggest, so Splinter assumed he was the oldest, but he was only a tiny fraction of his full-grown size when mutated. Mikey was the smallest, but the closest to full-grown. And Donnie and Leo were about the same.

One of the biggest things that makes me see Leo as trans is absolutely the size of his carapace in comparison to his brothersā.
And Iām not talking about height! Iām specifically looking at his shell here, because when you compare him to the others, particularly Donnie who is nearly the same height as Leo, itās very clear that Leoās carapace is much longer in proportion to the rest of his body.
Like - standing side by side, even though Donnie is shorter his carapace ends noticeably higher up than Leoās does. And I like this not only because it really helps push the idea that Leo could very likely be trans (or intersex!), but itās also just a fun design difference between them.
(It also lends way to future scenarios of Donnie eventually getting taller than Leo, but sitting down still has Leo being the taller one haha.)
