Hi Wormy, I hope you’re well, and I kinda wanna see Rowan's POV on his kidnapping. If you please.
Tumblr media
Youuuuuuuu......
(It's okay, I enjoy angst/whump on occasion).
I suppose this is a prequel to this snippet.
(If you read this and would like to request a short snippet, see this post!)
Rowan tried to bite back a yawn as he put the bag of flour away. It had been a long day in the bakery, and he still had a lot of prep work to do before tomorrow. He wanted to get everything done before Link got home so they could enjoy their evening together and not have to worry about work. He figured it would still be a while before Link returned, however. It wasn’t even dinner time yet and he’d gotten back later than that nearly every day this week.
Or he thought that would be the case until he heard the back door open. “Link?” When he received no answer, Rowan frowned. He slid the bowl of flour away from the edge of the counter and hung the dish towel he’d been holding on a nearby hook. He walked towards the door. Maybe Link had his hands full and was too distracted to answer. But when he caught sight of the backdoor, it wasn’t Link walking in. There was a thick fog rolling in through the door, too thick and quick to be natural. And then through the fog stepped one of the largest men that Rowan had ever seen. He had shining red armor, too sharp and spiked to be a the armor of a knight from the Hyrulean army. A helmet with protruding metal horns shadowed his face and a long plume of orange hair streamed from the back. Rowan took a step back. He recognized the man — the disgraced knight Volga, traitor to the kingdom and presumed dead after the war. Volga stepped towards him with a speed and confidence that only made Rowan’s heart beat faster. He glanced behind him, trying to find a weapon or an escape route. He wasn’t sure he could reach either in time. “Mr. Hawthorne. How nice to meet you.” Rowan didn’t respond. His back hit the kitchen counter, and he grasped behind himself, hoping to find a kitchen utensil or something. The fog rolled into the kitchen, swirling at his feet and beginning to rise around him. “Speechless, hmm? I suppose I do have that effect on people. Link certainly couldn’t speak around me.” Volga stepped forward towards Rowan. His looming presence made the kitchen shrink around Rowan. As he came closer, Rowan could see the light glinting against Volga’s teeth as his grin turned sharp. “Now, I hope you’ll come quietly. We need to have words with Captain Link.” Rowan opened his mouth — to protest or scream or question, he wasn’t even sure. Before he could make a sound, something grabbed his head at the temples. The grip was cold as ice. The fingers were tight and bony against his skin, and from where they touched, a shockwave of ice cold pain shot through him. Rowan gasped and his knees buckled as his connection to his limbs seemed to be severed. The fog rose up around him as his vision went spotty. The last thing he heard was a cackling laughter and Volga scolding someone before his vision went black and he knew no more.

Jojo (and Link) are so valid. Even in pixel form she's just <3
!! !! THEY ARE NOT SIBLINGS (in my art) !! !!
( I have seen the headcannon before about Link and Zelda being twins. I'm kinda neutral about it. But I'm a chronic zelink shipper, and they are NOT related in this fanart <3 )

When you have to trap yourself in a crystal and traumatize your boyfriend for the survival of humanity.
ANYWAYS Sepfember day 1 I completed last night but am posting now. Of course the moment that screams purpose to me in SkSw for Zelda is the moment she traps herself in the crystal!
I wanted to show her feelings cuz you know she be dying inside in that scene.

A post in which I talk about how I, a Wild-centric fanfic author, like to characterize Wild /pos
So I've read a TON of Wild fics. Not all of them, but a whole bunch, and let me tell you, I love every version of Wild, every characterization. Brooding and angsty? Cool! Goofy and silly? Heck yeah! Competent experienced knight? Awesome! Feral gremlin? One of my favorites! I like kid!Wild, fox!Wild, wolf!Wild, winged!Wild, and every other variation I've come across.
So when I wanted to start writing Wild fics, I had to decide what way I wanted to portray him as: what felt right to me, what agreed with LU canon, what agreed with the game(s)... It was quite the head scratcher because all of those ways I mentioned earlier are valid and logical conclusions. I thought about it alot and this is what I came up with:
In BotW, Wild’s personality is primarily defined by two factors: his previous training or “programming” as a royal knight which although isn’t remembered, it is still there, serving as the framework guiding his thoughts and actions, and by his lack of memory (and baggage) and childlike lack of knowledge and experience of the world (remember when you started the game and he didn't know what an apple or a stick was?).
I had a breakthrough though when I was watching a BotW Let’s Play: I realized that Wild is basically every BotW Let’s Player ever (actually, every player) because everyone starts Breath of the Wild with their own life experiences guiding their thought processes and actions but they come to the game with no knowledge of how anything works in the game or what the story is.
So, all I had to do is write Wild like how I play him, or how my favorite Let’s Players play him: lighthearted and cheerful, pretty clueless about social interaction, wanting to help others but not knowing how to beyond providing practical help, logical and strategic problem solver but without memories, he ends up doing things in unorthodox ways. He's a talented fighter and can use any weapon, but big picture battle strategy is not his strong suit. He's a sticky-fingered goblin in the towns but he's always very helpful to anyone he meets.
While I do tend to write him as more the silly, goofy, gremlin style, I do recognize and include that he does have a troubled past, and he can be dramatically angsty and he does go wordless sometimes, but I figure there's a threshold for it. He's normally very resilient and bounces back easily from "Oh man, what an intense memory that was" to "ooh shiny carrot! Mine now!"
But there's a point when things get tough and he drops below the "bounce back" level, he can revert to his old knightly ways of silence, emotional suppression, anxiety, self-sacrificial tendencies, plus the troubles of having only 1-2 years-worth of memory/experience (and ADHD) like issues with emotional regulation, conflict resolution, excessive guilt, confusion, flashbacks, etc. I figure it takes a lot to knock him down to that level, but when it does happen, it takes a lot of time and support for him to revert back to his usual happy-go-lucky self.
In summary, to me, Wild is a cheerful goofy teenager, a scrappy and competent fighter, a knight with a troubled past, and a good kid.
******
What's you favorite way to portray Wild? I'd love to hear it. (But please keep your thoughts to yourself if you're going to be critical, a Wild hater, or if your input starts with "I dislike/hate it when..." I'd like to keep this post as positive as possible.)

Linktober (Shadow) 2023
Spirit
Welp turns out my exam season throughly steam rolled through my general Linktober plans, so you get this VERY late thing for now folks who find this, at least until I decide whether to continue this until I finish it even though it's no longer Linktober or if I'll make whatever other stories come later their own thing after exam season is over (mostly because the original for this one is my preferred draft, and that I feel the one for the Link/Dark Link prompt would be kind of wasted if it just sat there collecting dust cause I worked hard on the tension and horror there lord darn it, along with a few others mainly involving Fae Hyrule, Twilight, Time, First, among other Links like Legend, Sky, Warriors, just all of the boys, I wanted to give them all proper spotlight and still want to do that in any way I can). Welp. *Downs coffee like a shot* Also really need to find out how to make a Masterlist on mobile, figure out how AO3 works and answer asks.
Anyway, not really any warnings this time besides Reader Not Being Okay (par the course really) and angst.
As always can be read as either romantic or platonic, Reader is gender neutral on purpose, technically is meant to be read as either Hero's Shade Time x Reader or First x Reader mainly, but you can interpret it as any Link really lol
Good reading!
This corner of Faron Woods was quiet this time of year.
The woods were solemn in this Hyrule, the sliver of moonlight barely enough of a guide through the mist, it was silent but for the soft padding of animals through the underbrush and the howl of a wolf in the distance (not Wolfie's, not musical enough). The stars were your only company as you were separated from the group, the air was cold agaisnt your skin as you attempted to find your way.
Being alone in the forests of Hyrule never spelled anything good for anyone, but as you felt the brush of a hand tenderly twined in yours, the ghost of leather and the faint clinking of steel, and a faint glow of pale gold and ivory cutting through the veil of the night, mindful of roots you may trip onto and never flickering too far out of sight you couldn't feel safer, even  if instead something like melancholy threatened to lock your throat with the chains of silence, you felt as warm as the soft twilight glow and as frigid as ice, frostburned with the bitter cold of your own warring emotions.
You can't help but chuckle a bit whille holding a old scabbard close to your heart, it's a wry sound, "It's been a while, hasn't it?"
There is no answer, of course there isn't, but you don't mind, you know he'll listen, thorns wrap around your heart and crawl up your throat, the smell of lilies and steel coats and sticks in your throat like honey, or maybe blood, "... I didn't think you'd show up, you know? I always considered the possibility but..." You trail off, you feel something brush your side, you can only see him in the corner of your eyes or with a passing glance, there but not, existing but gone, so you keep your eyes on the road and in the flicker of light, so you carefully don't look to your side, you don't think you could contain the shaking in your heart otherwise, to stare at inevitability and prophecy, "... I know, I know you're fine. At least for now, I apologize for all the trouble I gave you."
'It's alright. It could never be a hardship aiding you.', the voice echoes in your ears, and you swallow thickly, breath hitching, the warmth of the sun in the fields of Hyrule, the wind caressing your hair, the song of the animals in Faron Woods, someone holding you carefully, fondly. The warmth of your hand in his. Not really here, but not gone either, more feeling than true echo.
You chuckle, and try to pretend it's not a bit breathless, something like a wounded keen, "... You're too kind. Too, too kind, thank you."
Spirits in Hyrule never spell anything good, in this wild land of light and shadow in a gestalt of divinity. There are some exceptions though, even if it hurts to witness then. So you follow him through the dark, certain that as you've guided his way once, he'll lead you now to where you need to go.
----------------------------------------------------------
... The clearing he leads you to is open, but by no means truly quiet among the trees, there is no peace to be found for the armored skeleton here. You choke on sorrow, on unfinished business, on the cruelty of being brought to ruin and being denied peace, and you stumble towards the familiar figure, almost in a trance as your vision blurs, roots and thorny vines wrap over rusted armor and a thorn cape, the skeleton's void sockets piercing through your soul, illuminated by the solemn gaze of the wretched moon and it's uncaring maids of honor in the stars.
You fall to your knees near the decaying skeleton, biting back against the wounded sound that attempts to leave your throat with enough strenght to bleed, you lay the scabbard by his side with a bouquet of lilies and shiver at the gentle, phantom touch, so soft, so loving it almost leads you to ruin all over again.
'... It's foolish to grieve for someone who isn't gone yet.' the thought comes to you, yet you can't help it. You still hurt for him, you still hold onto the fury at the heavens themselves for denying them quietus. For denying them rest over and over and over again. To watch this cycle and be helpless to stop it all due to the will of uncaring gods.
Alive. Dead. Alive. Dead. Denied full rest over and over again, to watch the chance at rest to the kindest of souls found in this world you found yourself in.
You barely register the touch to your cheek, ephemeral as it is, as you can't help but shed tears, can't help but grieve. Because if you don't, who will?
You know by now that some wounds can never heal, some rifts can never be mended. Even with the guarantee of cyclic, eternal rebirth, some things never return to how they were. And reminding yourself of this inevitability to them will never not hurt, even if you know it's futile to blame anyone but the one god who started this, and maybe the goddess who stood complacent to it. It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth that it'll one day come to this, that the frost of death and the sharpness of pain will leave a mark the sands of time can't scar over.
You reach a trembling hand towards the one in your cheek, try to find catharsis in the remains of decayed, dead yet ever eternal, ever growing love. And you breathe.
'We'll meet again. So do not mourn for me, please.'
You don't think you could deny him if you tried. Not when you know he's trying to soothe you, to thaw your sorrow. To allow your heart's healing to fallow.
"We will, I know. I'm sorry for making you worry." You chuckle, leaning into the cold, trying to brand the memory of the shadowed, but not gone love given to you so you can return it in kind. Just until you meet again, just until you can give all you can to his not yet decomposing self, grasping onto what remains of him, "I love you."
'I love you too. Until we meet again.'
The cold is gone, the echo of love leaves. And you breathe, and pretend you don't feel empty.
(When you see Link again, reuniting with the Chain on the next day's twilight. You hug him as tight as you can, and hope you he doesn't notice the tears in your eyes. And that you don't feel the lingering traces of a frigid embrace.
When no one is looking, you wave goodbye to the shade. And pray he dreams of warmer days until he finds quietus.)
#linked universe x reader#hero's shade x reader#linked universe time x reader#first x reader#hylia's chosen hero x reader#first link x reader#also know as What Happens When Summer Watches Corpse Bride after Playing MJM#I'll never not be emotional about the Hero's Shade and how it's an inevitability that Time will always die relatively young#how First died alone in the surface and likely never got a proper burial#And the fact we never learn what happens to the heroes after the task is done and THE ONE INSTANCE#we do is to learn they died young in some manner (ex Time. @webhead3345 here's the next part of your ask!
Roll for stealth... (pt 2)
Day 16+24: came back wrong/doing this because I care about you
There are injuries mentioned close to the end of the fic, but nothing graphic
Part 1 | Part 3
Read on ao3
I left him. I left him, I left him, I left him! The thought pounded through Twilight's brain in time with the thud of his paws against the shifting sands. Against his better judgment, he had left his Cub surrounded by assassins who wanted nothing more than his death to escort a fully-trained Gerudo warrior home. He knew his wild Cub was strong and resourceful, but he’d also seen how many Yiga were there.
The longer they took to get help, the less likely it was that his Cub would survive this encounter.
As soon as Twilight was sure Buliara was on her way safely back to Gerudo town with Link's sand seal, he tapped into the Goddess’s magic that allowed him to teleport without Midna's help, letting it pull him back to the Daqo Chisay shrine.
He shook out his coat and turned the Twili magic of his shadow crystal away from his body with a thought, grateful the Goddess let him shift back to Hylian. He truly thought he’d be stuck as a wolf until his Cub's journey was complete – she must understand how much he cares for the kid.
Now he just had to pray to Ordona and any other god who would listen that Riju would allow a meeting. He didn’t have a way to sneak into town like his Cub did.
Trudging to the main gate, Twilight stopped just before the pair of Gerudo guards could cross their spears before him.
“No voe are allowed into town!” the guard on the left warned. “Leave!”
Twilight held up his hands and stepped back a pace, not wanting to antagonize the warriors. “I understand,” he reassured them, “but I must request an audience with Lady Riju, it’s urgent.”
The guards’ eyes narrowed behind their masks; Twilight could sense the time they were losing slipping through his fingers like the sand at his feet.
“Please, I am not Yiga. I come bearing news of the Hero, Link.”
Shock passed briefly across their faces, then one nodded, turning into town. The other guard kept her spear pointed at him, eyes never leaving his. Twilight tried not to fidget, but his nerves were straining raw with each second that passed.
Finally, the guard returned, declaring, “The Chief will meet you at the sand seal rally south of town. The guards at that entrance have been warned to keep an eye on you. Make no attempts to enter town, and your audience will be granted.”
Twilight couldn’t help his relieved sigh. One step closer. Hold on, Cub. “Thank you,” he breathed, turning to make his way around town as fast as he comfortably could on two legs. He wanted to shift back, but there were too many eyes on him. He’d have to remain Hylian for now.
Riju was already waiting at the rally when he arrived. “Sav'otta,” she greeted. “You are the Hylian voe who requested an audience?”
“I am, Lady Riju.”
“And you have news about Link?” She was hiding it well, but Twilight could sense she was nervous. “I saw him but half a day ago. What news could you possibly have?”
How best to explain…he held up his left hand, where the mark of the Triforce shone softly. “I am Link, the Hero of Twilight from an age long past, sent here by Hylia to help Link with his journey. I…am also the wolf that went with him, to rescue Buliara.”
Riju's eyes narrowed. “Prove it.”
Twilight flinched, remembering calls of monster from his loved ones during his quest. It’s okay, he told himself, she needs to know, needs to trust. I’m doing this because I care for him, she’s already seen my wolf form and is fine with it. Taking a deep breath, he gathered the Twili magic close, crouching as it washed over him. As his form settled, he sat on his haunches, ears pricked, panting in what he hoped was a friendly way.
Riju breathed an astonished laugh, coming closer and running her hand through the fur at his neck. “You truly are his Wolfie!” she exclaimed. “Thank you for helping him.”
Twilight nodded, relieved, then stepped away to shift back.
As he stood, Riju’s face turned serious again. “What news do you have, Link, Hero of Twilight?”
“We found Buliara without incident, but were surrounded by Yiga before we could compete our escape,” he explained, pacing as he retold the tale. “Link…stayed behind, sending Buliara and me ahead. She’s on her way with Link's sand seal, but I fear what may have happened to Link, since he hasn’t arrived at the shrine.”
He faced the Chief, unable to help the pleading in his voice. “Please, Lady Riju. He’s like family to me; I have to go back for him, but I can’t do it alone.”
Moment of truth. “Will you lend me some of your warriors to go bring him back?”
Riju gazed at him for a long moment, then smiled and touched his arm. “Link tamed Vah Naboris and earned the trust of every warrior here. I’m certain many would go with you. Meet us by the northwestern gate in an hour.”
Twilight could have wept with gratitude. “Thank you,” he murmured huskily. Riju smiled at him, then turned back to town. Please, Cub, he thought, please be okay.
Twilight paced through the sand at the northwestern gate, too wound up to rest. Every moment that passed burned at his soul, tempered only by the relief that washed over him as his keen ears picked up the sound of a veritable army approaching from within the town.
Riju led the way, nearly every able-bodied Gerudo warrior – all armed to the teeth – following behind. She stopped a few paces from him, hands on her hips as she grinned up at him. “I told you many would join us.”
The warriors spread out in ranks, all arrayed towards a towering Gerudo woman dressed in the armor of a captain. Twilight knew her from previous visits to the town – Captain Teake.
She stepped out to the fore of the army, raising her voice to the assembled troops. “For too long, the Yiga have threatened our people!” she shouted, “For too long, we have let them grow and fester! They captured Barta and stole our Thunder Helm. They kidnapped Buliara and held her hostage. Now, they have captured our Hero! This. Cannot. Stand!”
The assembled warriors roared in agreement, banging weapons on shields.
“It is a long march to Karusa Valley, but we will not be stopped! We march to eliminate the Yiga threat and rescue the Hero Link! May the Heroines grant us the spirit and endurance to succeed!”
This time Twilight joined the shouts of the warriors as they finally stepped out. Hold on Cub! We’re coming!
-----
The trek through the desert took twelve long, grueling hours at a quick march, but no one complained. They’d crossed paths with Buliara early in the march and sent her back to oversee protection of the town. Cooling elixirs had been passed around at about the same time, so Twilight was comfortable despite the heat and his many layers. He took vicious pride in eliminating every enemy that came in their path.
Now, as the twilight turned slowly to night, they stood at the arched entryway to the Yiga's hideout.
Riju and Captain Teake turned to Twilight as the warriors gathered around. “You have the most recent experience with this place,” Riju said, “I assume you have an idea where they may be holding Link?”
Twilight nodded, nervous energy building the closer they came to finding his Cub.
“Then lead the way.”
Teake turned to the warriors. “This is not a stealth mission. We will eliminate every Yiga who gets in our way. We follow the Hero of Twilight!”
It was harder to track scents as a Hylian, but he did retain many of his enhanced senses regardless of his form. He led the way through the hideout, past Barta's old cell, down into the prisons where they’d found Buliara, listening intently for the rustle of fabric and paper, trying to smell anything beyond the overwhelming perfume of mighty bananas.
The tang of relatively fresh Hylian blood snagged his attention as they passed one of the cells and the breath froze in his chest. Inside the dim cell he could see drops of blood scattered along the walls and floor, mingled with the crisp-pine-yellow-sunrise scent he’d come to associate with his Cub, although that was soured by fear and pain.
A growl rumbled deep in his chest and his lip curled. They had hurt his Cub! The army had yet to encounter a single Yiga soldier, and his Cub was no longer here. It didn’t bode well.
“Twilight?” Riju touched his arm; it took everything in him to not snap at her. “What’s wrong? Why have you stopped?”
“He was here,” he snarled, “He was here and they hurt him.”
A faint scream reached his ears from deeper in the base, and his heart stuttered. No, please…
He was running before he knew it. He didn’t even care if the Gerudo warriors were behind him. His Cub’s scent was getting stronger, as was the scent of blood. A pained screech rent the air, guiding Twilight on. His heart pounded fit to burst, but he refused to stop. I can’t stop now, not when I’m so close!
The screams stopped. Twilight redoubled his pace, tears pricking his eyes. No, no, nonono!
Twilight chased the freshening scent of his Cub's blood – left, right, around the corner, through the door, down the hallway, another right I’m so close! – liquid fear dripping down his spine as the sounds of someone choking and coughing reached his ears. The hallway he was in ended abruptly at what appeared to be an open-air arena.
The garish red of Yiga jumpsuits were everywhere, each laughing and pointing at something further into the arena. Twilight craned his neck, trying to see through the ocean of masks and topknots, looking towards the focal point.
His heart slammed into his boots, shattering on the dusty ground.
“CUB!!” Fueled by fear and desperation, Twilight plowed through the crowds of Yiga soldiers, the spearhead leading the charge of the attacking Gerudo warriors. He only had eyes for the poor, bloody boy strapped tightly to a stone table, stripped to his underclothes, and the Yiga that stood over his head, pouring a thin stream of water over his Cub’s mouth and nose.
Twilight’s sword jumped to his hand in mere moments, and he’d struck down the surrounding Yiga assassins in a few moments more.
Frantic with worry, he pulled the soaked cloth from Link's face. Dull, frightened eyes stared back at him for a few seconds before the boy fell unconscious.
Twilight wasted no time pulling a dagger from his boot, slicing through the ropes and leather that bound his Cub. As he cut the restraints, he checked for injuries, horrified at the burns and deep lacerations covering nearly every inch of exposed skin.
It wasn’t until the last cuff was cut through that he realized Link hadn’t taken a breath.
Swiftly, Twilight turned the young hero onto his side, intending to hit his back to clear any water from his lungs. He froze as he saw the damage to his Cub’s back. There would be no good way to get Link breathing again, not without hurting him more.
Anguish and indecision roiled inside Twilight, and for one eternal moment he was afraid he’d faint under the weight of the choice on his shoulders. His Cub still wasn’t breathing. He’d have to do something.
A watery blue light began to leak from Link's deepest wounds. Spectral flames encircled his prone form. Twilight made an aborted move towards the kid, but took a step back, watching fearfully as the flames burned brighter.
The only places he hadn’t been able to follow Link into were the shrines and the Divine Beasts. He’d spent the days the kid was inside pacing, worrying, and trying to hunt to take his mind off the worrying. He never knew exactly what happened inside, only that his Cub came out stronger, smarter, faster. His Cub had mentioned gifts from the former Champions, but hadn’t used them, to his knowledge. He could only pray that this light was somehow one of them.
The faintest outline of a Zora woman appeared in the air above his Cub. Slowly, she ran her hands down the length of his battered body. As they passed, bleeding stopped, wounds knit together, and color returned to the kid's face. Her hands came back to hover over his chest, and Link choked on a gasp as water was forced from his lungs. The Zora's hands stayed firmly in place as Link coughed, a deep focus on her face.
Finally, Link took a deep, clear, painless breath, and Twilight found his own breath coming easier. His Cub would be okay.
The Zora woman pressed her lips to the young hero's forehead, and a sweet, ghostly voice echoed around them. “It has been my pleasure.”
She looked up, a small smile on her face as she caught Twilight's eye. She gave him a tiny, respectful nod before fading away.
Twilight watched his Cub breathe as the Gerudo warriors formed a protective circle around the table. Most of the fighting was done, but he could still hear a few stubborn blademasters.
Particles of malice – Twilight hadn’t known there was meant to be a blood moon tonight – began their ponderous journey towards the sky as Link's eyes finally opened. The kid gave a frightened cry when he realized where he was, but froze, panting, when he noticed he’d been healed.
Twilight was sure there was still some mental healing that needed to happen, though.
The Cub looked around warily, rising to a crouch as he surveyed the ring of warriors around him. His fingers hovered near his right hip as if to grab his slate; he paled when the only thing that met his searching fingertips was the fabric of his shorts.
Wide, wild eyes made another complete circuit of the warriors before they settled on Riju, who’d stepped up next to Twilight. “Riju?” Link whispered, voice ragged from stress.
Twilight heard the smile in her voice as she responded. “Yes, Link, it’s me.”
“I don’t…how…who…?” Link stammered, trembling as the dark magic of the imminent blood moon brought a shadow to his eyes.
Twilight could almost see the recent memories slotting themselves into place in his Cub’s head. He rushed forward to catch the kid as he wavered, shock and stress and exhaustion in every line of his body.
Link's eyelids fluttered as he shivered in Twilight’s grasp. Carefully, tenderly, he pulled the wolf pelt from his shoulders and wrapped it around the younger hero, who tangled his fingers in the fur and immediately settled, sighing.
Link was asleep before Twilight stood up completely, arms wrapped protectively around his Cub.
Twilight turned to Riju. “We need to find his slate and his other gear,” he said, eyeing the reddening sky, “and we need to get away from this place.”
“We already have a team in the base searching,” she confirmed. “They should be just about done.”
With the last blademaster finally driven away, the Gerudo warriors formed a protective circle around Twilight and his Cub as they swiftly made their way back through the base. They met the search party just past the cells, and Twilight placed the slate and the kid's clothes in his own pouch for safekeeping.
The blood moon reached its peak as the last warrior descended the small cliff south of the base. Malice filled the air, thick enough to choke King Bulbin, and Twilight could feel it trying to make him shift back to a wolf as Hylia's influence faded.
Twilight gritted his teeth, mentally shoving the dark magic away until the calamitous influence receded. He could not afford to be a wolf right now.
They continued through the sand until they made it to open desert, then stopped to rest for what remained of the night. Between the long march, the battle, and the Blood Moon, everyone was ready to rest, even if it was only for a few hours.
Twilight curled protectively around his Cub, refusing to let the boy out of his arms after everything the kid had gone through. They slept through the night without movement, both exhausted, and Twilight woke with the heat of the rising sun. Link still slept on.
A quick breakfast and cooling elixirs were distributed by the warriors, then they resumed their march.
Link finally woke as noon approached. Twilight wouldn’t have known were it not for the way the boy stiffened in his arms. He peered through the fur of his pelt, catching the bright, wild eyes of his Cub as they glared around.
“Where am I? Who are you?” Link croaked, voice thick with sleep and distrust.
“Hush, Cub,” Twilight soothed. He shifted the pelt away from the young hero's face so he could see more clearly. “You’re with friends, see? We’re headed back to Gerudo town.”
Link relaxed minutely as he saw familiar faces among the Gerudo warriors. “What’s a Hylian voe doing with all these Gerudo, anyway?” he asked, fingers idly twisting the fur of the pelt. He paused, though, and his gaze grew distracted. “This fur…I thought Wolfie was here. I could’ve sworn I felt him when…where is he?”
Twilight tried to answer all the kid’s questions without overwhelming him. “I helped the Gerudo rescue you from the Yiga. The pelt is mine – it’s all we had to cover you with. And Wolfie…” he grimaced, letting out a heavy breath to steel himself before he admitted, “I’m actually Wolfie.”
Link stared at him, incomprehension clear on his face. “No…you’re wrong. There’s no way Wolfie's actually Hylian. He is definitely a wolf – I sent a wolf away with Buliara! How could he come back as…?”
“Cub, Cub, shhh!” Twilight tightened his hold around the fretting hero before he could dump himself onto the burning sand. “Look at my tattoos! Look into my eyes! What do you see?”
Link stilled, staring as a dozen conflicting emotions flickered across his features. “They match…” he whispered.
Distrust still shone on Link's features, so Twilight pulled out his next piece of evidence. “We were just coming out of the Rabella wetlands when Riju called you on your slate. I helped you take down that black hinox!”
Belief flickered behind the Champion's eyes, but it was immediately chased by hurt and betrayal. “But…if Wolfie's always been Hylian…why didn’t you…?”
“Change back?” Twilight asked. Link nodded. “Until now, Hylia wouldn’t let me. I tried, believe me.”
“What changed?”
Twilight chuckled humorlessly. “You did, Cub. You sent me away with Buliara, instead of letting me stay to help, as she had intended.
“The only reason we could rescue you in time is because I teleported back to Gerudo town as soon as I knew Buliara would be safe. Hylia allowed me to shift back to get the help you needed.”
Twilight watched the Cub ponder this information as the army stopped for lunch. He carefully set the younger hero on his feet and returned the Sheikah slate, laughing to himself as the Cub immediately changed into more heat-appropriate gear.
Link returned the pelt, watching with a small smirk as Twilight gratefully resettled it on his shoulders. “So, what do I call you while you’re Hylian?”
Twilight grinned. “Well, my name is also Link, but you can just call me Twilight.”

Random fic idea: Post-LU Wild is sad and misses the guys, so Flora points out they are technically his past lives, and that maybe they could unlock those memories like he did with his pre-Calamity ones. He’s eager to see how his brothers ended up and he manages figure out how to do it. Could either be really bitter sweet as he sees their mostly-happy endings, or angsty as his own addled memories start to trouble differentiating things that happened to this him versus things that happened to a past-him…

1, 11, 14, 16, 17, 19 for the behind the scenes of fic asks! ((this is hualianisms, i can't send asks from my sideblog🥲))
Hello @hualianisms!! Thank you for the asks (๑>◡<๑)
What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?
(/。\)...am I going to embarrass myself on main today because the first fic that I published on ao3 was for the ReoNagi pairing from Blue Lock, but I technically wrote fic for Inazuma Eleven when I was a wee little child. What was yours?
If you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Definitely angst, it comes easier to me than fluff or smut 〜(><)〜
If you were stuck on an island with only two characters, who would you pick?
Only two? That's a hard choice >_< Shi Qingxuan (TGCF) and Yu Shisan (A Journey to Love), probably. SQX can just whisk us away~
What is your most underrated fic?
I'll take underrated to mean not doing as well as I thought it would since I really liked this? It's a toss up between one of my Link Click fics (Qiao Ling centric, S2 canon compliant) and one of my earlier Mysterious Lotus Casebook fics (Gen, LXY/LLH centric). I really enjoyed the process of exploring what went on in Season 2 of Link Click through Qiao Ling's eyes, and thought that there weren't enough fics featuring her, which is why it's a fic that's really dear to me. As for the Li Xiangyi centric fic (i must admit that imagining pre-canon stuff is a favourite of mine), I wanted to explore the process of Li Xiangyi becoming Li Lianhua, and how he had changed so much over ten years. It was fun to imagine him traversing the jianghu and picking up various skills along the way! But I do understand that Genfics aren't for everyone, so it's okay. I do have more recent ones that aren't doing that well but I have...complicated feelings regarding those
What fic are you most proud of?
(I also cannot simply choose one, my bad).
I have this ShiGuang fic that was loosely inspired by a manhwa called "The tale of the Yellow dragon", that was nearly complete by the time the S2 finale came out and I figured, why not throw Lu Guang's lines in there? and it fit, so I was really happy with how it turned out :D Another fic that I'm proud of is Tales of Tianji Manor, mainly because I wasn't sure that people would enjoy a fic told from Madam He's pov, but the fandom was so nice about it ^^ and it was fun to explore the OT3 dynamics from her pov!! and (last one, I promise!!) I was really happy with how the ZhanHua fic turned out :D Zhan Yunfei was one of my favourite side characters, and explore his ten years of yearning and devotion was interesting.
Who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? Why?
I'd say the hardest is Di Feisheng's (MLC) pov for me, I'm not sure if it's writers block or burnout, but trying to wrangle his character has been a challenge lately. Another would be Ning Yuanzhou (A Journey to Love), because the man thinks so damn much, and he has to be a leader, a lover, a father and a brother all at the same time. Oh and Yi Zhi Hua's (White Cat Legend) tone is quite tricky for me to grasp...
easiest would probably be what I call the "simp characters" (not that I'm calling them one-dimensional, it's just that they have Prioritised that One Special Person): Fang Duobing for one, he has a rather straightforward personality, he places his family and Li Lianhua first, and he's honest about his feelings. Qiu Qingzhi is another. (it's harder to see beneath his layers but) imo his motivations were mainly to protect Li Bing. and I just really like to write Yu Shisan, the man loves so deeply and freely.

I've been thinking about how Time technically died in that one timeline and now I'm wondering what would happen if one of the LU boys actually did die. Would they just vanish? Would another timeline be created? Would it just wreck their own timeline? Some of them have important things to do that haven't been done yet, especially Sky. Would Hyrule even exist if he died?? I guess Sun would still be around to establish the goddess's bloodline, but wasn't the whole point to reunite Hylia and her lover? I feel like it could get very bad very fast.
Oof yeah, it would be Really Bad all around of any of them died, yikes 😬
It’s hard to say what might happen, though. For a few of them, history wouldn’t be quite as impacted (not that it wouldn’t still be bad, just some of them live quieter lives then others).
Sky would probably be the most disastrous like you said, and I think Wild would be bad too (since he’s pre-totk). Since Malon (likely) isn’t pregnant, Time dying now would probably make Twiligjt just... not exist (and possibly Wild too), and that would create a whole slew of issues. If Wind died (assuming he’s not st Link?) then I guess Tetra would either found new Hyrule by herself (and isn’t that a sad thought) or possibly not find it at all. Spirit tracks would be totally messed up... it would be a disaster.
But yeah. Any of them dying would be bad, but it’s hard to say what exactly would happen. Would a new timeline be created? Depending on the Link, I’d say it’s a distinct possibility.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @skyyknights and @traveleorzea ! Forever ago but I'm finally getting around to tackling all these questions. Thank you so much for the tags! :D I decided to answer these questions (mostly) based only on the fics I have posted to AO3 right now. I could have answered some of these questions based on WIP's I haven't posted yet, but I decided to keep it simple. The stupid new format of Tumblr kept screwing up my links, which is part of the reason why it took me so long to post this.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? At the moment, only 43!
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 39,225 as of December 30, 2023. I expect this to skyrocket once I eventually post my megafics for Transformers and Fire Emblem. But, it is not this day.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Anything I want to write for 🔥❤️‍🔥🔥The Legend of Zelda, Transformers, Miraculous Ladybug, Fire Emblem, the MCU, Critical Role, and Puss in Boots are the fandoms represented on my AO3 now, but that's only the beginning! I have a few more fics in the works for many other fandoms, including but not limited to Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, Batfam, Honor Among Thieves, and The Stormlight Archive, that simply aren't ready for AO3 yet. I hope to get them up someday, in the years to come. 4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? From the top and descending, that would be: "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) I'm genuinely unsurprised this is at the peak. It's held this rank ever since I posted it. Wholesome Team Friendship Fluff, post-movie! "To Bee a Leader" (Transformers: Robots in Disguise 2015) This one always surprises me!!! I never expected it to get so much traction! But I'm so happy it keeps getting hits! I'm so happy people are enjoying / relating to my Prime in Disguise Bumblebee angst + emotional hurt / comfort! "Release Me" (The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) With the advent of TotK, it is only logical that this shot to the top 5. This is my fic I wrote before the game released, where I theorized: what if the green arm was actually antagonistic? "Watched" (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) I think the LU fandom finally found this one, because it wasn't this high in the ranks before, lol. It's not technically Linked Universe, but you could certainly read it as either TLoZ or LU, as you prefer. Pre-canon, still in Ordon Village, Link doesn't know it...but he's being watched. "A Name Aptly Chosen" (Bumblebee (2018) / Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) Oh, when did this happen??? When did you hit the top 5? 👀 This is news to me! This makes me so happy!!! This is how I imagine Bumblebee explained to Optimus Prime his name-change from "B-127" to "Bumblebee" ✨
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Most of the time, yes! I love when readers leave comments because I'm excited to hear what in my writing stood out to them. Thus, I try to reply to as many as I can. I hope that if I stay engaged with my readers, they'll feel more comfortable with commenting, whether on my fics or someone else's ✨ That being said, however, when particular comments don't pass the vibe check, I see no need to reward with any response. <3
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Ooh. As of now, that trophy goes to "Where Sorrow Rings" (Fire Emblem: Engage). A close second might be "Out of Tune" (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.) (The even-heavier angst that I write is currently unpublished, because most of it is in my megafics.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Good question! My first instinct would be Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, but depending on preference, I suppose Welcome Home and Dissonant Echoes could possibly compete with that one.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not much yet (lol), but I figure it'll happen eventually because that's how the Internet works, regrettably. 9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope. I don't read it either.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Lol, this is a super funny question for me personally. I crossover so many things, but my best crossovers haven't made it to AO3 yet because I'm still building up the greatness to reach its full potential. I think the only crossover I have right now on AO3 is a Stormlight!AU for TLoZ, The Song of Stormlight. But oh, the crossovers in my mind...! I gotta mention some of them just for fun, in the hopes it'll motivate me to bring them to fruition:
Psych x Transformers Assassin's Creed x Transformers Assassin's Creed x Fire Emblem Fire Emblem x TLoZ Fire Emblem x TLoZ x MCU x MtG x Nintendo-in-general x 신의 x Stormlight Archive x literally anything else I can think of and no I am not joking, this is very much a thing. This is my magnum opus. One of the biggest worlds I'll ever write; one of the biggest projects I've been working on for many years that have already passed, as well as many more years to come.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I hope not. 🗡️🗡️🗡️
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I know of. If someone wanted to translate a fic of mine, I might be truly honored, but I would want them to ask permission first.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Hmm...not seriously. I've collaborated worldbuilding with many people over the years, and done much roleplaying, but I've never co-written a "fic" that wasn't a for-fun "Round Robin" game.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? OoT Zelink. They are my OTP.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? *laughs That could be literally any of my WIP's at any point. I want to finish them all. I plan to finish them all. I hope to finish them all. But, actually finishing them all is dependent upon many factors. I think of ideas faster than I can finish them, and I have many priorities to juggle. I hope I don't abandon my stories, but I make no promises. Even so, I try not to doubt that I'll finish my fics; I strive to keep a positive mindset, because that will lend me the motivation to finish them, even if it takes me years to do so.
16. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, poetry (I love writing words to a beat even within prose), and coming up with titles, to name a few!
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Finishing
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I think it's delightful when it's executed well, and distracting when it's not. That's why I try to be careful when I attempt to do so. When I do so, I wish to respect the language and the culture the language is a part of; language has much nuance, so I don't just wanna copy-paste something from the Goog's Translate without taking certain linguistic factors into account.
19. First fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I posted for on AO3 was Transformers: Prime. That's not the first fandom I ever wrote for, but I'm not telling you that, Tumblr.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? This is a cruel question. I could well cheat this question and say "all my fics are my favorite fics I've ever written, because writing is a delight." I would mean that. But, in the spirit of the ask game, I will respond with "Safe With You." 🏍️ Oh, I just realized now I gotta tag people 😂 All rightyyyy, I'm sorry if you've been tagged before, but I'm going to tag @misscrazyfangirl321 @cooking-with-hailstones @clawedandcute and @margindoodles2407 but only if you want to! <3
P.S. This is probably self-explanatory but just in case: if you hop onto this game, please make a new post <3 Thank you in advance, friends!

A couple of questions! Will there be a chapter or such showing how Quincey and Lucy got closer and smitten pre revelations, and was Mina resting in Transylvanian soil because she drank Dracula's blood, or was it on sacred earth?
So, I know that there is someone working on a First Meeting fic for Quincey and Lu! (Not gonna say name here as I don't want them to feel pressured to work on it any faster then they actually have time/energy for) but I've read bits of it and it's very good!
And Mina was resting in Transylvanian soil as she was/is tied to Dracula and did sort of technically "die" there so it works for her that way too, at least thats my interpretation!

Prompt
Does Rowan know how to ride a horse?? Rowan's first time riding a horsie :>
I went a little wild with this prompt and wrote like 1100 words. Which is too much for me to put on tumblr (not because of tumblr limits, it's just a lot of formatting stuff for me) so the full thing will be posted on AO3 at some point. (My page is here) By the time the events of my Rowanverse series rolls around, Rowan does know how to ride a horse! He's not super skilled at it and does it very rarely, but he's capable enough if the horse is calm (long rides wouldn't be very comfortable though, he'd prefer to ride in a wagon if that's the case).
For context on this snippet, Rowan is almost two. Ren, his older sister, is about six. Théo is his dad, and his mom (Chrys) is watching. She shows up in the full fic!
For those who know a lot about Rowan's history, this may be a bit sad (it made me sad while writing it). For those that don't, well, I hope you enjoy the cuteness! It's cute either way!
Oh, Théo his whole family all have French names (courtesy of @gingerest-ale ! ), so the nickname coco is a French nickname!
Ren stopped, dutifully keeping hold of the lead — just how her papa taught her. Théo shifted Rowan so he was holding him with one arm. He walked towards the horse and patted Ren on the head as he passed her. Rowan reached out his chubby little hands towards Cashew’s nose. The old horse leaned forward until her nose bumped against Rowan’s hands, and he giggled, high pitched and with utter joy and delight. Cashew inched forward until she was close enough to nuzzle her nose into Rowan’s hair, and Théo couldn’t help the smile as Cashew nibbled at the curly red hair on Rowan’s head. It only made him giggle more, his hands clumsily patting the underside of Cashew’s snout. Ren was stroking the horse’s shoulder, but kept her eyes on Théo and Rowan.   “Alright, coco. Ready for your first horse ride?” When Théo pulled Rowan away from Cashew’s nose, he struggled to get back to her. “Papa, pony!” “I know, I know. Just hold on a moment.” Rowan kept struggling, trying to climb over Théo’s shoulder to get back to Cashew’s head. But Théo held on to him, knowing that the mare would stay still and Ren was close by to keep petting her. When Théo lifted Rowan and set him on Cashew’s back, he stilled, eyes wide. Théo kept a careful hold on him, since there was no way Rowan would be able to maintain his balance on his own. Rowan leaned forward and placed his hands flat on Cashew’s back. Cashew shifted her weight slightly and Rowan’s fingers curled up, but there was nothing for him to hold onto. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.” Rowan smiled up at him, his eyes still wide. But soon enough, he turned back to petting Cashew’s back. “Ren, why don’t you start walking. Just keep it slow.”

Information Masterpost for Constellation of Hope (LU)
Since CoH is kind of a big mess of a universe (a lot of it currently being stuck in my head and refusing to be written), I decided to write a masterpost for it for those especially interested. I'll try to keep it updated as I continue to write for this series.
Last updated: September 26th 2023
Character information
Time: he/him pronouns, doesn't understand gender but presents typically masculine. He's in love with Malon and she's in love with him and that's all that really matters to him
Warriors:: he/him, cismale (for now...?), aro, technically pansexual but he's got ... issues with women at the moment that he has to work through
Twilight: he/him, cismale (for now...?), panromantic, pansexual. Not currently dating (subject to change). Is overwhelmingly supportive of the rest of the chain and will always listen to their thoughts and struggles
Sky: he/him, transman, in love with Sun but can't be bothered to label it. Sunsexual? Literally switched gender, pronouns, name etc with Sun. Has some thoughts about possibly being bigender, but every once in a blue moon or so. Struggles with chronic altitude illness which presents itself as fatigue, nausea and general GI issues. Also cannot drink cow's milk.
Legend: they/he, lived his life until TFH as a transman. The cheerleader outfit made them reconsider everything and they wrote a very panicked letter to Ravio (transman, he/him) about it. Is now out as genderqueer. Has rheumatoid arthritis and sensory processing disorder.
Wild: they/he/she, genderfluid, in a qpr with Flora. They barely understand gender on the best of the days. Was allegedly a transman before the Calamity and has the top surgery scars to prove it, but doesn't really care now. Autistic and learning to unmask (a result of her pre-Calamity life). The scars bother them from time to time.
Hyrule: fae/faer, agender, aroace. Every now and then fae will borrow someone's gender presentation. In some of the stories, fae will still be referred to with he/him pronouns as fae has yet to figure faerself out. Autistic.
Four: plural they/them, when split apart Red and Green (cismen) uses he/him pronouns, Blue (transfem) uses she/her and Vio (agender) uses they/them. Shadow (nonbinary) is dating Vio and uses xe/xem pronouns. Four is also not intended to be a DIDOSDD+ system, despite potential similarities in presentation or language. Overview of the colours' appearances here
Wind: he/him, then she/her, transfem. Wind is in a relationship with Tetra, but exactly what it is, she hasn't figured it out yet. Originally hesitates to transition because she doesn't want to upset Warriors (they talk it out). Cannot drink cow's milk.
Timeline - links are all to AO3
Prequels/pre-story fics
Indecisive - a fic taking place after Four's third adventures (a mix between Four Swords Adventures and the Four Swords Manga). Vio misses Shadow and talks to Blue about it.
Main story? (there's not really a main story, but anything including and after Dark Hair Significance is here). Disclaimer: The order you see here might not reflect the order of the AO3 series.
Dark Hair Significance - Intro fic to my linked universe oneshot collection. Teen. Mostly Four- and Legend-centric. This is where the Chain meets up (at least partially).
Course and Wale - Wind's never seen anyone knit before. Ravio shows him, and they both learn something in the process.
A Brief Respite - It's a new moon on the first night in Legend's Hyrule, which means that Shadow will be around to hang out with them. It's just a pity that things don't always work out according to plan.
The Wind Guides - Wind has some thoughts about gender and it takes him- her -some time to figure it out.
Sweet Tooth - Hyrule is a bit silly about faer needs. Time helps. Also known as the hypoglycaemic!Hyrule fic
Comfort - Wild can't seem to fall asleep. Hyrule keeps them company.

@cosmetichorror SO it took me a few days, but here's some stuff on my timeshift au (not as much as shadow wings, though)
It begins in the peaceful era of post game sksw, in the Lanayru Sand Sea, where Link and Zelda are about to do something stupid; hit a timeshift stone at the same time
This sends Link spiraling through time, hitting every other Link’s era on the way back to his own (mostly during their adventures)
(This was originally meant to be mostly pre lu, so. Technically we're missing one (?) with the Legend combo Link)
First up, botw! We establish for the first time the running gag throughout my fics of Link meeting another Link and calling him Other Link, no matter which one is the namer or namee
Legends are told, nicknames are established, fi and wolfie are there, and then a still undecided amount of time later, Sky gets sent into four's era where he saves him from a cat, and wanders around Hyrule doing absolutely nothing except pondering the passage of time and how life is truly fleeting (and the scenery! the scenery is very lovely, don'tcha know!)
Up to Legend combo Link, currently stuck in Queen Ambi’s dungeon, and we meet Raven who I wish had more content, and also Sky burns down a house.
They escape, I give him an actually cool nickname, and then I just talk about Raven too much
Then to twilight wolfie, where sky gets a cold, and I have to rewrite a scene to remove one of his arms
(Then I got writers block and I haven't written anything in months)
Skip ahead to Warriors, which should have been the last one, except... what's this? Bullshit excuse to write more? All the time energy hanging around in his era renewed the stuff clinging to sky! He gets to do it all over again
Also I had an idea for Zelda to go along too and visit the AoC era and do something. I don't know

You can BET that Iroh not only smirked he’d have laughed about it. Because he believed in everything his father and grandfather created until the death of his son. And it took a personal loss for him to step back and not unlearning of his own accord.
Pre-Lu Ten’s death!Iroh might have even been one of the more crueler FN characters we’ve seen outside of Zhao the Moonslayer and Phoenix King Ozai. The things shown in the flashbacks speaks loudly about who he was when serving as a High General in the midst of a siege.
No matter how “redeemed” he is by the time the show rolled around everything done before is STILL WORSE then what Azula did in her short 14 years. She has one technical kill and he’s probably killed hundreds/thousands either with his own hands or through his orders.
ATLA fandom:
*Adult in his 50s spends decades inflicting conquest and misery on a massive scale on the world out of his own selfish desires*--"He was always a good person."
*11 year old smirks once*-"She must have been born evil!"
