I have no clue why they didn't make Amity more akin to a rival character instead of a bully. Because it would have solved A Lot of problems in regards to Amity and Willow, and Lumity becoming a thing.

The thing is that Lumity feels Super Weird at the start when Luz is trying to befriend Amity long before the girl shows any remorse for bullying Willow and making up for it. And it's not something easily brushed off when Amity is introduced being condescending and a dick to Willow. The bullying isn't something of the past, it's still going on.

Willow comes off as an afterthought in this dynamic, when she's the one who's been wronged by Amity the most. Their arc never feels like it resolves itself either, it just kinda peeters out.

If you've watched Little Witch Academia, Diana is who I think Amity should have emulated more. Diana is the top student at the school, she's stern and no-nonsense, a bit stuck-up, she comes from a prestigious family, she gets in conflict with the protagnoist, Akko, not because of bullying but because they have very different personalities and butt heads because of it. Akko considers Diana her rival, but this is one-sided on her part.

Willow and Amity could still have been friends in the past, but Amity instead pointedly ignores Willow's existence after their friendship has ended. She doesn't call out her friends for bullying Willow(that would make it seem like she cares) but she doesn't participate or encourage it. She's still not a good person, she still has to apologise to Willow, but changing their relationship from 'active bullying' to 'pretending Willow doesn't exist' would do a lot going forward for them I think. Still terrible, but more palatable in my eyes.

#the owl house #toh critical #i guess?#better safe than not #luz noceda #amity blight #willow park #lumity #honestly one-sided rivalry could have easily been part of the early pre-lumity dynamic #with luz still seeing TBI as a fantasy considering amity to be her rival because in stories like these the protagonist always has a rival #but it would lead to luz struggling to see amity as a person beyond the 'rival' trope #like less we forget this girl had no friends before coming to TBI #so she'd struggle communicating with amity outside of how this is 'supposed' to go #or how it went in the azura books between azura and hecate #but their friendship doesn't need a big event or battle to form and it actually complicates things instead #and just like in canon lost in language is what helps luz see more of the real amity and it's what begins the connection between them

Didn’t manage to go to the theatre in June (I’m trying to go once a month) so I’m going twice this month! AND to the cinema! I’m so excited

#didn’t go in May either but I saw my favourite band in concert so counting that instead #no I lied it was February I didn’t see anything but I went to a book event #and the writer they had for that month is from the same town as me. (she went to the pres though. yes I asked)#in May I saw The Government Inspector with Kiell Smith-Bynoe & Dan Renton-Skinner & Martha Howe-Douglas which was amazing #my own post #whoops saved this as a draft on the 3rd #I’ve now been to the theatre twice. I saw Dorian The Musical (v fun. modernised Dorian Gray but my friend said they stuck quite closely to #the book. songs were good. basil’s actor was so pretty I want to be them.)#and George (george_theplay) which is about George Sand writing her play Gabriel #and playing with gender in the 1800s and what that means both for sand’s writing and her gender. really enjoyed it.#then I’m seeing deadpool & wolverine when it comes out for something less serious

man, i’m still kinda in awe of how mid DoN was, and how much the audience sucked

(though still have to give them some cred for coming alive for jade v taya v kris, and the turtleneck chants)

you know, I generally agree with criticism of modern-day American Girl, but I really don't get why people are pissed that they're making historical dolls from the 90s??? Like, they introduced Julie in the 2000s, and she's from the 70s. I guess that's a wider time gap, but still. To modern kids, the 90s were a long time ago! 23 years is a lot in kid time!

#to be clear I'm not saying that their designs are good #or that the brand's quality hasn't declined horribly #but a lot of the criticism about the time period specifically #feels like it boils down to adults getting angry that their childhoods are now considered “history”#and that modern little girls don't actually remember the late 90s personally #like sorry but that's just how time works!#someone on Twitter was like WHAT ARE THEY EVEN GONNA TALK ABOUT??? THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL??? THE PRE-UBIQUITOUS-INTERNET WORLD???#and it's like #yeah probably #children today were not alive for those events. and the whole purpose of the brand is to teach children about events they werent alive for #my sister liked learning about our parents' childhoods from the Julie books #and I'm sure modern kids will like learning about their parents' childhoods from the 90s books

Had a dream that I was working a corporate job with one of my IRL friends, and an asshole coworker who is apparently the daughter of the manager decided to bribe/brainwash the others into locking us on that floor and chasing us down.

Now that would've been scary. It would've been had it not been for the fact that these henchmen looked hot as shit in their hooded forms and their pecs and arms were absolutely MASSIVE. So the Monster Fucker in me decided to chase BACK at them. Needless to say they were all horrified by my unhinged horniness and were stunned as we ran out of the office building.

Oh yeah and Leon Kennedy was one of our coworkers who joined our group at the end, they didn't even bother brainwashing him he just stood in front of our office elevator all confused in full on black pleather shirt and pants, except his shirt had a full on boob window to show his absolute naturals. The last things I did before the dream stopped was yell out at him in relief and touch his pecs to make sure he was fine.

I woke up at 7 AM 'cuz of this dream. What the hell.
