If there’s one thing I can say hasn’t changed in moving from Tarkington to Huntsville, it’s that the sun is out and its HUMID. I fought that today and yesterday, to the point that I changed clothes half way through the day today. Fall cannot get here fast enough! Bring on the cold weather!

While this day at college was a fun adventure overall, it didn’t start out that way. Have you ever tried sleeping in a new place? New smells and sounds. Your mind wandering places. Not being able to get to sleep even though you’re dead tired? Yeah. That was me last night. I tossed and turned until I finally could tune out the slamming doors and a/c humming long enough to get to sleep. That was 10 pm.

Here’s a fun fact. Our dorm has a window, but it’s to the far left of my bed. With curtains. And blinds. Almost no way to let in natural light (bless the souls of my potted plants). This is something I have to discuss with my roommate about fixing. I thrive on natural light. I need to know that it’s daytime when I wake up. Because otherwise, stupid stuff happens. Stupid stuff like waking up at midnight and, since my fit bit doesn’t tell me am/pm… thinking I’ve slept til noon and getting up and getting dressed. Y’all, I had my makeup on and everything. Winged eyeliner ready to go. Then I check my phone. 12:00. AM. Well crap. Put my pjs back on. Crawl in bed. Wake up every hour, tossing and turning.

At 6:30 in the morning, I finally give up. So much for sleep. I take my time getting ready and then set out to find what I really need: STARBUCKS. Coffee is my jam. My Google maps is telling me on my phone where to go and I think I have it made! However, when I reached the building, I’m pretty sure I was on the wrong side or something. Because I saw no coffee stand.

I settled for a bottled frappuccino I found in a vending machine in a small food court area, which works for me. And as sleepy-looking students and employees begin to wander in, I drank my cold caffeinated goodness and began to plan my day.

In the AM, I set out to run as many errands as I could. I got on the list for a parking permit. Made a shopping list and hit up Target, Office Depot, and Wal-Mart for fun goodies because that leftover student loan money hit my bank account this morning #praisejesushallelujah…

And then for lunch, I found an on-campus buffet style restaurant and ate a salad alone while I read my book. After a while I wandered back to the dorm room and tried my best to decide what I should do next. Eventually, I found myself at the campus bookstore, searching for command strips and a lanyard, among other things.

After making my purchase, I sat down in the lobby just outside of the bookstore for a half-second in order to shove everything into my bag. Strangely enough, I was approached by another human being! And 2 minutes later, I was playing Uno with about 5 other people. We chattered away and laughed and made each other mad with plus 4 cards until a staff member from the building informed us that we couldn’t play cards in the lobby. So, after playing for almost an hour, we moved to the gameroom/lounge that just happened to be a staircase away. We played card games together for another hour or so and I was excited to get to hang out with them for quite a while.

The last event of the night was a comedy show. This year’s guests were Nick Cannon and 2 other people that I had never heard of before, but apparently they’re similarly popular. I walked to the Colosseum with one of my suitemates, Lori, and her friends. We ended up waiting outside for close to an hour and waiting an hour in our seats for the show to start. But honestly, the best part was building those new friendships before and after the show. The best comedian was the opener/MC because his humor was the LEAST crude and gross. And the other 2 acts, who took the stage longer, made too many jokes that I felt uncomfortable laughing at. I mean, it was funny, but I feel like they weren’t the best choice of entertainment.

But day 2 was nice. And I’m glad to have made some new friends.

Last final has been sent in, and I'm DONE SON! 😂 This summer semester has been the most challenging of them all. People said "take some time off of school to regroup," or "go back after surgery" but there was no way I was getting side tracked. The fact that graduation is less than a year away is settling in. Thanks to all of my family and friends who coached me through some of the road bumps. I couldn't have done it without ya! 😘 now to behave like a teacher on summer vacation! #PraiseJesusHallelujah
