The Chelsea Grasslands of the High Line, New York, provided a wonderful display of the plumes of Calamagrostis brachytricha (Korean feather reed grass). These inflorescences will continue into the winter. This species is tolerant of a range of conditions but thrives best in a moisture retentive but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.

it’s sowing day! a dry and sunny day is just the perfect time, and the forecast rain should water everything in just fine. bed number 2 will hold a prairie meadow. my mix of wildflowers and grasses includes — Agastache foeniculum (Anise Hyssop) Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly Weed) Aster oolentangiensis (Sky Blue Aster) Coreopsis palmata (Prairie Coreopsis) Dalea purpurea (Purple Prairie Clover) Echinacea pallida (Pale Purple Coneflower) Eryngium yuccifolium (Rattlesnake Master) Gentiana flavida (Cream Gentian) Liatris aspera (Button Blazing Star) Monarda punctata (Spotted Bee Balm) Parthenium integrifolium (Wild Quinine) Penstemon digitalis (Foxglove Beardtongue) Rudbeckia hirta (Black-eyed Susan) Solidago nemoralis (Old Field Goldenrod) Zizia aptera (Heart-leaf Golden Alexanders) Bouteloua curtipendula (Side-oats Grama PLS) Bromus kalmii (Prairie Brome PLS) Schyzachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem PLS) . after I broadcast the seeds in a sand mix, I followed the method to cover the bed in order to protect the seeds from birds, erosion, frost and loss of moisture. Horse racing at Prairie Meadows. Mid April through Mid October Families can be outside close to the action or inside the non-casino area. Providing late season interest in the prairie-style, seed raised Sky Meadow at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Hyde Hall, Essex, UK, is Symphyotrichum turbinellum (prairie aster, turbinate aster). This herbaceous plant is a native to dry prairies, open woods, upland glades and ridges in the USA. The flowers are attractive to pollinators.

In the Sky Meadow at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Hyde Hall, Essex, UK, the herbaceous perennial Rudbeckia maxima (great cone flower) was a great presence. This herbaceous perennial has large, distinctive wax-coated blue-grey leaves and yellow petalled flowers with a central black cone.

The tall herbaceous perennial Silphium terebinthinaceum (prairie burdock, prairie dock) can reach up to 4m high. It has a basal rosette of large, paddle-shaped leaves with erect stems covered with yellow, daisy-like flowers. This striking plant forms an eye catcher in the Sky Meadow at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Hyde Hall, Essex, UK.
