Today's Kriya is exactly what I need after some sleepless night in the albergue. Day 26 of the #livehealbloomkundaliniyogachallenge is Shoulder Stand. This kriya will help get you to sleep. It calms the nervous system, gives the heart a break and helps to oxygenate the lungs.  Due to the neck lock and inverted position, it also brings blood to the thyroid and parathyroid, helping them properly secrete hormones. Lie flat on the back. Place the arms at your sides and bend your knees, bringing the heels up toward the buttocks. Place the hands on the hips, just below  the waist.  With the weight distributed between the shoulders and forearms, lift the legs straight up into the air, keeping the hands on the hips. Try your best to create a straight line from toes to shoulder, lowering the hands along the back as much as possible to achieve a perfectly straight line with the body.  Tuck the buttocks in while lifting the toes toward the ceiling.  Make sure the elbows are not too far apart, keeping the arms perpendicular to each other.  Keep the weight off the neck. Stay here for at least 3 minutes with breath of fire. If you are in your first two days of your moon cycle, please do not do this pose. Do warm up with some kriyas before attempting to do this pose. The Camino starts this very day so I'm doing today's challenge right next to the pilgrim statue sitting on a bench in front of the Catedral de Santa María de Burgos. Day 9 of the #livehealbloomkundaliniyogachallenge is one of my favorites, Sat Kriya. This is fundamental to Kundalini Yoga and is one of the most effective kriyas to repair and reverse the damage done to the body from stress or from taking drugs. Sit in Rock Pose on the heels and knees. Lift your arms up overhead with the upper arms hugging the ears. Interlace all ten fingers, release the index fingers pointing straight up and the palms touching together. Chant the word, “Sat” as you pull the navel point in, visualizing pulling in energy at the navel point. Chant the word, “Nam,” as you relax the navel, visualizing energy exiting at the brow point. Let the breath regulate itself. Eyes are closed and focused at the brow point. Continue rhythmically for 3 minutes and then inhale, exhale, and apply mulbandh. Rest for 3 minutes.
