Via their Facebook page, 3rd party company DNA Design has brought to life a concept that sadly never happened back in the day – Powermaster armor for Legacy United Voyager Animated Optimus Prime! This was something that was planned for the original toyline had it continued, and while there had been plans from various 3rd party companies over the years to make it, none had come to fruition – until now, as the DK-54 upgrade kit.
“🌟 Introducing DNA Design’s DK-54 ANIMATED OP UPGRADE KITS! 🌟 🚀 Scheduled Release Date: September 2024 🚀 📅 Pre-order Deadline: May 10, 2024 📅 We are proud to present our latest masterpiece, the DK-54 meticulously crafted by DNA Design. As gamers, we understand the fear of regret, especially after 16 years, spanning from 2008 to the present day. We spare no effort in striving to meet everyone’s expectations. Regarding the ANIMATED OP, we have set several design directions: 🚨For the ANIMATED OP, we’ve outlined several design directions: 🚨 1.Bringing the fire truck from the animation into three-dimensional form. 2.Allowing the shoulder cannon to transform into handheld dual guns. 3.Converting the ladder into a cannon. 4.Fully integrating the hammer into the vehicle’s model. DNA Design DK-54 Legacy United Animated Powermaster Optimus Prime: Well worth the wait

I finally got the DNA Design Legacy United Animated Optimus Prime upgrade kit in hand, and I wanna talk about it a bit y’know? These are more some rough, loose thoughts on the set itself, rather than a full review of it and the figure it’s for.

First off, this is. So damn satisfying. Powermaster Optimus Prime is already one of my favorite things in Transformers… ever? So having any kind of physical representation of the Animated take on the concept is really gratifying, even if it isn’t all the bells and whistles. It looks absolutely gorgeous. The color matching is really on point, though not quite one-to-one. This is my first experience with DNA, as I’m sure is the case for many others, and it’s a solid first impression, with everything made from some high-quality plastic, though there is maybe a touch too much extra weight. Optimus has trouble holding more dynamic poses with the armor on, and I found myself needing to tighten his knees and shoulders just so he could bear the weight outside of standing straight up. Yet at the same time a few parts feel a bit thin? Mostly the wing pack. I don’t like pegging the hammer into the wings for truck mode because they don’t have the little bit of give they need. It’s a similar story for storing the gloves, there’s not really room to do it the way DNA wants you to do it, though it's not a cause for concern, unlike the wings.

The full truck mode is glorious, and, again, very gratifying. The only toy of Optimus’ full fire truck mode released in the Animated toyline was… a transforming NERF blaster. That’s it. So having it as an actual Transformer is well overdue. Good luck getting it to sit flat though. I could not get all the wheels on the ground, but I might’ve been doing something wrong idk- The “trailer” doesn’t connect very securely, either. It’s not going anywhere just rolling it around, but Optimus isn’t pegged in all that tightly. The set doesn’t make use of the unique square tabs on Optimus’ feet. You know, the ones that were almost certainly included specifically for a potential Powermaster upgrade. This doesn’t really matter for robot mode, but the trailer could have probably used them alongside the 5 mm pegs so that you can, I don’t know, pick it up?

Any minor gripes aside, I absolutely adore this thing. It looks phenomenal and… is going to be a centerpiece display. I don’t currently have room on my shelves for the full wingspan. He’s a big boy…

Every time I see an Optimus toy with fake windowtits I go apeshit (on the inside)
I fucking despise when things fake being higher quality than they are. I don't mean like slapping a slightly misspelled brand name onto an identical non-designer product for purely aesthetic reasons I mean like rivets or thread that are actually glued down rather than punched or stitched. Fake pockets on jeans that are actually just an extra seam. Heavy looking chain that's plastic or very soft flimsy metal rather than anything sturdy. I bought boots which looked like they had a stitched sole 8 months ago and lo and behold the glue holding the sole on is revealing itself by falling apart. You PUT a STITCH IN THERE. YOU HAD THE NEEDLE AND THREAD. AND YOU DIDNT ACTUALLY STITCH DOWN THE FUCKING SOLES. Oh it makes me so mad. Cheap cunts taking the aesthetics of durability or practicality while handing you a product that won't last you the year

The more things change, the more they stay the same, and I've loved Transformers for 40 years now. (I mean, MORE technically, since I had a couple of the Diaclone versions prior to the Hasbro rebranding.) That said, Merry Christmas or whatever you choose to celebrate! (Or not. lol)

Dear Vector Prime, When the Last Autobot turned Hi-Q into Optimus Prime, what happened to Hi-Q's body? Did his consciousness cease to exist? Were his own memories and personality overridden by that of Prime's? Does his original, organic Nebulan body still exist, entombed within Optimus' body?
Dear Q Querier,
That’s a very good question. When the Nebulan bio-engineer Doctor Arcana conceived of the binary bonding process, it was with a clear objective in mind: to grant Nebulan pilots fine motor control over Cybertronian bodies, connecting their nervous systems to the circuitry either remotely via radio or through a physical link at the neck. The original minds of the Autobots would themselves remain in radio contact with their human successors, providing invaluable cultural and strategic insight.
In practice, however, Arcana was no neuroscientist—and nobody involved in the project was prepared for the shift in qualia that would accompany the combination. The unique superposition of their brainwaves led to strange patterns of interference, their thoughts perfectly entangled with one another. Organic minds have much greater elasticity than our central processors, and show remarkable adaptability when converting our digital sensory input to analog sensations—so these gestalt beings would usually come to self-identify by their Cybertronian name. Assimilation failure, where the binary bond would fail to reconcile the two individuals within the body, is rare, but not unheard of: amongst the Autobots, Chromedome and Stylor would struggle most to overcome their differences, and have had the operation reversed post-war.
As an extension of Primus, the Last Autobot was blessed with a glimpse of his plan—and though he was initially surprised by the alien form the Chosen One had taken, it was the work of moments to perfect the binary bond between them, melding spark and soul into a singular life, embodied as a techno-organic fusion. The human body which had once belonged to Hi-Q was suffused with Nucleon, and seated there, intact, behind the windows in Prime’s chest. This was something of a vestigial organ, for in truth, the combination went much deeper; the two were bonded at a molecular level, Hi-Q’s DNA replicated throughout Prime’s genetic code. However, as a side-effect of the body’s enshrinement, Optimus Prime was unable to transform.
Perhaps Primus had intended this to be a sign of his will: that the war would end, the Cybertronian race no longer needing to change to meet its needs. Alas, were this the case, the universe had darker designs still. As battle called, Prime underwent surgery to remove the physical remnant of Hi-Q, restoring access to his alt-mode at the cost of the preternatural energy he possessed. At the request of Hi-Q’s relatives, an exemption was made to allow a number of Cybertronians passage to Nebulos, so that a funeral could be held. At the wake, Prime gave a short eulogy, in which he insisted that Hi-Q was not in fact dead, which gravely upset many of the mourners. The funeral marked the last time Prime would visit the planet.
Optimus Prime and Hi-Q were both great leaders who shared similar values of peace and freedom. In the wake of their merging, these feelings were only amplified, leaving their convictions stronger than ever before. However, both had struggled in the past to share their inner thoughts with others, preferring to bear their burdens alone. If Prime remembers being Hi-Q, or if he still thinks of himself as Hi-Q from time to time… he’s never said. However, it brings me some comfort to imagine that the self-doubt which troubled them both would have interfered destructively with their enormous mutual respect—leaving a self-acceptance that neither had independently known.

Just a simple photo shoot this week. I'm not going to review a figure unless I have a lot to say about it, which I (sadly) don't here. Don't get me wrong, I think this is one of the coolest Transformers toys ever made, but I do not have much to actually say about 1988's Powermaster Optimus Prime. Other than that I think it's really, really cool, of course. Most of why I like this guy so much lies in sheer presence and form factor. It's also why I don't like most of the modern updates. I know Fanshobby Powerbaser is a Thing™️, but he's not chunky enough.
Also, the fancy shmancy reproduction labels are courtesy of Toyhax. Because PMOP just isn't himself without a pair of shiny blue tits. Which my copy lacked when I first got him.

Age of the Primes was officially revealed, and the first guy shown off Prime wise was Megatronus.
And they decided to go back to the Dreamwave design that kickstarted all this.

The main difference is he has equipped the Requiem Blaster, based on its Prime Wars design….

…and a new version of the Void Scepter based on the TFONE version.

So The Fallen alone implies that some of the preexisting Thirteen might be based on their originating designs but cherry pick things from other incarnations.
The box art shows off Liege Maximo in his original G2 design.

That’s a surprise since the G2 design is rarely acknowledged, in favor of a more humanoid design instead of a monster.

Most of what the new Liege Maximo takes from his other counterparts is his Aligned’s self legs. Liege skipped leg day a lot it seems…
The other robot represents The Thirteenth Prime, who recently in TFONE became Zeta Prime.

The original concept via Aligned had this 13th member be the so called “Arisen” was actually just Optimus Prime. This robot’s design appears to homage that, resembling Powermaster Optimus Prime.

It also loosely resembles Star Convoy and God Ginrai…

Star Convoy is in this toy line, but I don’t think he’s meant to be the Thirteenth, just yet another Optimus variant. So who this is supposed to be we don’t know yet.
It does reinforce an observation that Hasbro has moved away from the unpopular idea Optimus was one of the original 13, and that the robot is whoever it needs to be for a given story, with Zeta Prime filling in the role specifically in TFONE.
So safe bet it’s Zeta based on trends, or it’s a Ginrai homage called Apeximus Prime or something. (It would be a clever way of giving the Apex Armor a Prime unique to it, since Godbomber (Ginrai’s drone partner) is often dubbed as Apex Bomber and Optimus’ non Roller drone. Might as well complete the reference.)
Incidentally, the Primes cast as gold statutes on the packaging is likely a nod to the G1 Decepticon Hall of Heroes.

I don’t think we’re getting toys of any of these guys such as Bloodron or Murdron anytime soon, though Devron maybe since he resembles Scourge (and probably was meant to be him, had old plans about the Hall’s Life Sparks been used instead).
Admittedly, one thing that would be cool is seeing a toyline based on past Decepticon leaders, since even relatively newer stuff has shown other wars before Optimus and Megatron existed, so you could justify it. Doubly so in you found have some of these Decepticons from the Hall be reinterpreted as The Fallen’s and Liege Maximo’s followers. Something to consider maybe~!
