Hi Ralph! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Harry, and the way he interacts with the world. There was the guardian interview and his weird statement about dilution (which I agree with your thoughts on so I won’t harp on about here). In the vein of weird interview comments Harry has made in interviews, one I also think about a lot came out in 2017-ish after Miley Cyrus came out. I can’t remember the exact quote, but I do remember the interviewer asked him, basically, what he thought of Miley’s coming out, and if he felt like he as a person in the public eye had any duty to publicly declare his sexuality too, knowing what it would mean to a lot of his fans who are struggling with their own sexualities, and Harry said “I think that’s a weird thing to expect of someone else, and everyone should just be who they want to be.” I don’t necessarily disagree with the content of his comment - you don’t owe anything to anybody when it comes to your sexuality - but I feel a little weird about the message behind the comment which I took to be “just let me sing and make music and stop asking me for anything else.��� I think a large part of the reason I extrapolated that from his comment (and I do realize I was reading into it) has been his general reluctance over the years to get involved with any sort of political movement. The only two real exception I can think of are (1) LGBTQ rights kind of, although to be honest some of this seems performative to me, and (2) his weird and sort of short lived foray into BLM with the march he joined and his Instagram post. That, combined with his decision to move forward with his tour and the general outrage and feeling that Harry is “disconnected” from his fans, that he is “money hungry” that he is “using his fans” etc. has had me thinking. I disagree with the discourse vilifying Harry for his tour decision, and I think a lot of it is that people are angry and scared and frustrated (for valid reasons) but they are equating their rightful feelings of frustration with the situation to mean Harry failed them on a personal level, which I don’t think is true or fair. But I do think Harry is a celebrity who seems generally out of touch with what the rest of the world goes through, and worse he doesn’t actually seem to care. I feel like he withdrew so much after 1D days, and in general I do applaud that decision - I imagine he was dealing with a lot of trauma, and a retreat to as much of a private life as he could manage was probably well called for to protect his mental health. But his withdrawal has continued, and we only really see him when he has something to promote. We don’t get anything at all from him expect his music and now his movies. I don’t want this to come across as me yelling “Harry tell me about your personal life!!!” Because it’s not. I believe he should have complete privacy in that realm, if that’s what he wants. But to me, Harry cutting so much of himself off from the world has made him feel incredibly shallow and disconnected from his fan base, except when he has something to sell. And I do wholeheartedly think when you’re in the position of massive privilege that Harry is, you have a duty to be a well educated, well informed, active participant in your communities, and to throw your weight around for good. On the one hand, I do want to give him the benefit of the doubt. He came into this life he has now at 16, after leading a childhood that seemed to be fairly untouched by any real hardships. He has lived a life that is largely insulated from the way the rest of the world lives. On the other hand, he has the ability to educate himself, and not having those lived experiences personally doesn’t, I think, excuse him from learning about them and working to help who and where he can. I don’t think I really have a question here, I guess I’m just interested in your thoughts. I value your input, and your answers always push me to think about things in ways I hadn’t before. This has been taking up a lot of my mental space, and I’m curious if you’ve thought about it any.

Oh anon - there's a lot here and I'll try to untangle some of my reactions.

First of all - leaving outside the politics of all of this - I think there is part of Harry, both artistically and how he presents himself as a celebrity, which is very good at suggesting things, and leaving space for possibilities. And I think, at least at this stage, there isn't necessarily a solid core in there if you push. And that's OK, it has a lot of value artistically - blank space is pretty core to any design. But by the same token, it's OK if you want more. If you're dissatisfied with Harry you don't need to be fair for him - you can just think 'I want something you're not offering at the moment'.

But obviously I'm me so I can't leave the politics aside for long. I want to start with the interview - because context is important - that interview was Dan Wotton and the fucking Sun. Here is what was printed, which I think is a little different from what you remembered:

I ask Harry about sexuality in pop, a topic in the headlines after MILEY CYRUS spoke openly about her pansexuality. What’s his take?

He says: “Being in a creative field, it’s important to be ­progressive. People doing stuff like that is great.

“It’s weird for me — everyone should just be who they want to be. It’s tough to justify somebody having to answer to someone else about stuff like that.”

So has Harry personally labelled his sexuality?

He replies: “No, I’ve never felt the need to really. No.”

Would he like to elaborate? “I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself.”

I want to be clear that everything Dan Wotton was doing here was wrong, from existing to obviously trying to push Harry out. And while Harry was also wrong to be doing an interview with the Sun, he did a really good job of not saying anything he didn't want to say in difficult circumstances.

I want to make it absolutely clear that I'm with Harry. It is tough to justify somebody having to answer to other people about their sexuality. I mean particularly when that person is Dan Wotton working for the fucking Sun.

But in general I don't think there's anything wrong with Harry saying implicitly and explicitly 'Just let me sing and don't ask me for anything else'. More than that I reject the whole premise. In the questions you imagined Dan Wotton asking, you set up the idea that the only way a queer artists could speak to queer fans is by coming out. And I think it's important to push back at that at every opportunity. I've said it before, but that I identify more with Louis reciting the women he's pretending to be attracted to by rote, much more than I ever have with anyone waving a rainbow flag. I reject every part of the premise of 'you coming out would mean a lot to people and somehow that is your problem'.

Throughout what you've written me, you emphasise a belief that celebrities should be active politically - and I really want to push back and ask why? What good does that expectation do you or the world? I think the last thing this world needs is more commentary from people with large microphones and without knowledge or a perspective. The world isn't made better if celebrities feel oblige to talk about politics. And your experience

You seem to think of politics like charity - as something you do for other people out of a sense of obligation. I would argue that very little useful politics has ever been done under that model. Instead I would argue a model of politics based on solidarity: 'If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.' (Aboriginal Activist, 1970s).

I think this is what makes the English football team so powerful. Marcus Rashford is fighting for school lunches, because he knows what it's like to be hungry. They're taking the knee, because they have experienced racism, or are expressing solidarity with teammates who have experienced racism. I think Jordan Henderson believes that his world and life would be better if queer fans could be themselves at a football match.

Harry has said in so many ways that he hasn't figured out to relate politically, and he doesn't have anything more to say. That might change, but in the meantime, believe him.

Last off I want to point that you seem to be drawing a parallel between him being disconnected with his fans and not interacting politically and I don't think there is any connection at all. You said:

There is no connection between these two points - none. I also don't think there's anything wrong with being cut off from your fan base, or silent on politics. But they're also independent (I mean look at Shawn Mendes at the period of his career when he wouldn't turn anyone down a selfie. He wasn't at all active in politics then).

I don't think there's anything wrong with valuing an artist being out, politically active, or connected with their fan base. But there are plenty of artists who are out (Lil Nas X, Olly Alexander, and I'll give a shout out to Grace Petrie) and there are plenty of artists who are politically active (Jade Thirwell, Dua Lipa, Stormzy). I'm sure there are also lots of artists who connect with their fan base (although I don't track that personally). If that's what you want, find artists that meet those needs. Rather than choosing an artists who offers something else entirely and having expectations they will never meet.

Jungkook’s happy I guess almost surprisingly so, I mean yeah Yoongi and yourself seemed cool in the interview, and when he did is work interview the vibe was chill. But let’s get real, we all know shit always seems better than it actually is in the interviews!

For one he honestly wasn’t expecting to be given such free reign already which is also why he’s happy as hell he didn’t listen to his roommate’s Mark and Ten and lie on his resume. Granted, everything still had to go through Yoongi first but he wasn’t just... I don’t know editing thumbnails like he thought he was actually doing real work. He’s been here barely a month and he already has reels he can add to his portfolio! Learning new tips and tricks, believe it or not, even through his internships he’s learned that some people are stingy when it comes to sharing knowledge. Yoongi however was far from that, thankfully he was well aware that just because you teach someone your “secrets” doesn’t mean you’re essentially replacing yourself! What makes you good at your job isn’t just how it’s done its how you do it!

If only Kookie could stop internally fangirling over Yoongi his life would be a little easier! He’d seen hundreds of your companies films before and being the production major he is..of course, he’d watch it the first time to jack off..then the second time he’d find himself just as if not even more turned on for the production quality. That’s something Onyx is always praised for..”Aesthetically pleasing porn”. Every morning, Yoongi would sit him down and show him something new and for the first time he finally understands what people mean when they say that someones mind is..attractive! Not Yoongi himself though, because that’s his boss and that would be weird but like his brain, ya know? Yoongi’s brian is sexy in a broboss way...I don’t know just go with it!

Anyway, Kook’s current project was actually one of his favorites so far because it was forcing him to actually challenge himself! This was something actually requested by Hoseok, who he learned was 26, the head of marketing, always bouncing around like he’s had 6 expresso shots and somehow manages to make streetwear look professional…. But anyway the task is creating trailers for films that are pc enough to not be blocked on platforms like IG but spicy enough to get ppl to wanna watch the full thing. Making a climax without the actual climax if you know what I mean. So he’d have to sit there and watch the films, try not to get hard and wanna jack off while watching said films...then take notes and screencaps of the best moments and compile them together without showing “too much”. He’s never been so thankful that he could wear sweatpants to work….because…..yeah it was hard..literally and figuratively hard...but like I said he’s happy and can pay his bills so that’s cool too!

Don’t get me wrong he still feels a little out of place at times and surprisingly enough not for the reason he expected! Two months shy of his 21st bday he assumed he’d feel a type of way because he’s the youngest but that’s not the case! Hell, they went to Nobu for lunch last week and Jin actually slid him his drunk so he wasn’t the only one not drinking!  Flashing him a cheeky little wink and whispering “Don’t tell mom” in reference to you once Kook looked back at him like a deer in headlights! It seems as though they care more about his talent than his age which is the way it should be because he knows he’s good at what he dose!

However, Onyx is kinda like those offices you see on TV, the kind he never thought where real, behind closed doors the environment is far from pc! It’s not a normal morning unless somebodies cursing out there computers! This morning he swore Taehyung told Jimin he had a shrimp dick…… There’s “that’s what she said” jokes being thrown out left and right, people cracking jokes on one another. And it’s not that he feels uncomfortable by any means again he’s a 20 y/o kid from LA it’s just ...he’s new...ya know? So he doesn’t know if he’s “allowed” to do that! So in the meantime, he just spends his days laughing until his chest hurts!

But besides that everybody’s chill , he’s still trying to learn people, regardless of how laxed the office is everybody’s busy as all hell especially Namjoon and yourself! The two of you are actually his biggest mystery, he’s never thought of marriage being something that he’d want. He’s always heard that people change, and shit gets boring, but even in a work environment that’s far from the vibe he gets from the two of you! You actually make marriage seem exciting, worth it, like a gift, not a task…..

Something else that he can’t truly wrap his head around is that your his boss, like legitimately his boss! Somebody that looks like you,I mean fuck your not even 30, you sway around the office in your little dresses and designer heels! Always dolled up hell sometimes he questions if he’s the one in some upscale porno! Actually, not just you all of you why the fuck are all of you so effortlessly attractive and put together?! To make it even worse you all know your shit too! Two days ago for example Kook went to Yoongi to ask if there was a certain way he wanted the ending credits to come into frame, and instead of Yoongi responding you did! Using terminology that had him ready to run home and pull out his “Intro to production” text box! Shit don’t make any Goodman sense...even Yoongi sitting in his office looking like he could be in one of the films he’s editing and no, god no why is he thinking this about his higher-ups?! No, no, nope try again Jeon!

However, now that we’re on this topic, there is one person that he can’t quite wrap his head around...I mean yeah he’s nice but he just seems more reserved around Jungkook than everyone else. Which is odd considering he’s the one Kook meet first, he’s actually the one that encouraged him to even submit his resume, to begin with! What makes it even odder is Yoongi and yourself actually told him that Tae was the most outgoing...it’s not that Jungkook nessercally thinks Tae dislikes him it’s just ...I don’t know, I don’t know…I guess he was just...warmer when the two of them met at Starbucks then he is now that they actually work together!

...And I guess that’s why he almost shit himself when his phone rang and the incoming name rang though as….”Taehyung Kim”...he kinda hoped he pocket dialed him and would just hand up! But wait, I guess you can’t really do that from a landline can you?? Fuckkkkkk

“I know technologies come a long way Kook, but phones don’t answer themselves ya know…” Eyes fluttering over to see Yoongi smirking at him, tone blatantly amused as he flipped through a file he had in his hands.It’s like he could sense how nervous he is too “Don’t worry about Tae, he’s more bark than he is bite, he’s literally a puppy dressed in Gucci…” Flicking his chin in the direction of the phone with a reassuring smile.

With a timid nod and shaky fingers Jungkook picks up  the call on the final ring “H-hello??”

“Jungkook? Can you come to my office in the next 5 or so minutes?” His tone wasn’t rude by any means but it also wasn’t the most inviting. Eyes fluttering overly timidly in Yoongis direction because he knew Tae was loud enough that the elder could hear and he smiled fondly, nodding in approval. Arms crossed firm against his chest, head cocked to the side, eyes squinting slightly from under his black baseball cap, as if he was now purposely trying to hear the conversation.

“Umm, yeah, yeah of course…” God, why does he sound like he’s still going through puberty right now!? Voice fluttering ina and out of an octave!

“Great!”

Tae just hangs up, no goodbye ...promoting Yoongi to roll his eyes, with an exasperated sigh...Jungkook just sits there for a moment, not too sure what to do!

“You’re free to go, Seok dosen’t need these until Friday and your deifiently far enough along, a little time away from your desk wont hurt! Oh, just save your stuff first though! The systems moving slow as fuck and I’m about ready to break my damn computer so I’ll probably do a system reboot while you’re gone!”

Jungkook nods timidly, swallowing so hard he’s sure Yoongi heard it, fingers scattering to do as Yoongis instructed, he literally feels like he’s going to throw up! Why does Tae make him so nervous? I mean no offense but Tae isn’t even his boss why is he more freaked out of Taehyung than is actual boss!

He hears a heavy sigh fall from behind him, as Yoongi invites himself to take a seat, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder ‘First off, you’re doing fucking great, and I mean that, so step back...and breath...” Squeezing his shoulder slightly, tone calm yet stable enough to ground the younger! 

 “Second, I’m ordering lunch from that coney up the street, Hyungs treat” He watches Jungkook go to open his mouth in protest and Yoongi just groans, loud and obnoxious, eyes fluttering to the back of his head more times than he can count!

“Don’t even try and give me that “Your not hungry bullshit” Eyes narrowing in the youngers direction challangingly “So let’s try this again, what do you want? And yes Tae can wait I already texted him and told him so you’re fine! Now go to google and pull up Leo’s menu and lets order lu-”

“Yonngggggiiiii!!!’ Whines through the studio, which only promps the man in question to slowly sink into his chair as if he was trying to make himself dissapear! And before Jungkook can even make heads or tails as to what’s happening...a pair of skin-tight leather pants, a florial silk shirt, that was sitting so low it mideswell not even be buttoned, flashy shades and windswept pastel pink hair comes strutting in... Looking like something straight out of Vouge so again he asks why the fuck does everybody look like this!?

Not even botherng to ask if he’s interupted anything, just flinging his arms around the production manager’s neck, propping his chin on top of his head,

“I need like...20 headshots edited...in the next half hour” Jungkook watched Yoongi go completely ridgit a scowl on his face as he tried to pull away but the casting manager only held on tigher “...and before you kill me even though I drunk some of it this Amerciano is for you soooo, I feel like I’ve made it worth or while, please and thank you! ” Smiling so big his eyes dispered into his face it took everything in him not to coo and swoon all at the same damn time!

AVA MAX - KINGS & QUEENS

A jack of all trades?

Jackie Powell: For many, Ava Max has struggled to distinguish herself. She has similar artistic idiosyncrasies to Lady Gaga but a vocal that soars in a similar trajectory to Marina. The confidence and attitude of her delivery could draw even with Dua Lipa. In 2020 Max returns with "Kings & Queens," another solo single. But this one has been promoted and packaged as the lead single for her first full-length LP, which still remains to be seen and is untitled to the public. While I could blame the spitfire single releases post-"Sweet But Psycho" on Atlantic Records -- who are notorious for stringing their artists along on a topsy-turvy release orbit -- putting out a potential pop Kraken in "Kings & Queens" reminds us of how Max can continue to differentiate herself within dancefloor pop circles. Her lyrics are witty, and especially on this cut, she's not afraid to sell and go all-in on an extended metaphor about gender, power, and nobility: "And you might think I'm weak without a sword/But if I had one, it'd be bigger than yours." The written visualization carries into the music video treatment and into how the cut sounds. Max lays on a throne accompanied by a sword and then she's seen knocking down the King on a life-size chess set. The most memorable audible moment is the Brian May "Killer Queen"-esque guitar solo that supersedes the second chorus and then picks up again in the high energy outro. Her messaging is a strength, but her operatic pop vocal is sometimes drowned out by Cirkut's glossy production. Eight other writers developed this melody. So how does Max break through and become a pop heavyweight? She ought to stick to her strengths and not force her weaknesses. "Sweet But Psycho" was no fluke. Max has something to say, and she ought to continue her cheeky metaphors that are sometimes extended, while discontinuing the eight-piece factory that brainstormed ten "different versions" of this melody. Will Adams: There are aspirations toward big '80s cheese -- the chorus lifted from Bon Jovi by-way-of Bonnie Tyler; those rad electric guitars -- but it's mostly the same wan Gaga pastiche, only enhanced by the presence of RedOne. Even Gaga is releasing better early-Gaga-era music at this point. [5]

Leah Isobel: This is garish as hell, but that's a positive -- the borrowed melody solidifies Ava as a committed Max-imalist, a Meat Loaf for the Spotify era. But transposing those over-the-top sonics into circa-2010 ~empowerment~ sort of defeats the purpose. Like, yeah, being a woman is hard work, and love is, indeed, a battlefield; for the artists and songs she's referencing, these truths were just background. Here, that subtext is plain text, and as a result there's nowhere for the song to build. Ava is left swinging at shadows with her non-existent sword. [5]

Kayla Beardslee: You Give Feminism a Bad Name. [3]

Scott Mildenhall: It is indeed a shot through the heart -- when Ava Max homages, she homages with a big sign saying she's done it. What's better yet is that "Kings & Queens" never seeks to reframe its obvious inspiration through any kind of lens. No layer of archness is required for something which is and always was arch by itself. Instead, this has all the wit and confusion of "Paparazzi" with even more punch. While Gaga's recent retrospectacle was immensely satisfying, here is a step further: a glimpse into a world in which she denied all impulse to develop, and kept making songs like this forever and ever. Kylo Nocom: Attempts to project conservatism onto willfully silly mainstream pop like this and Meghan Trainor always fall flat because it's hardly any more offensive than most other acceptable brands of pop-feminism. Ava has the voice to give a song as silly as this the needed royal-drama, and the guitars are killer. If Ava is really the fake-Gaga her detractors want her to be, then she's doing a killer job. Besides, I always preferred "The Queen" to Born This Way's failed experiments. [7]

Oliver Maier: Max's songcraft is simple, but effective enough to justify her wildly irresponsible metaphor mixing (she's a queen, but also a dragon at one point, and also maybe Robyn's pal who arrived at the club a bit late). The harmonised guitar solo and the bridge are the wrong way around, but the former is a welcome anachronism and the latter gets extra credit for being 50% extremely literal chess rules. [6]

Wayne Weizhen Zhang: Robyn in 2010: "I keep dancing on my own." Ava Max in 2020: "You're not dancing on your own." Who do you think I'm gonna side with? [3]

Joshua Lu: On paper, "Kings & Queens" should be one of the kookiest pop songs of the year. Listening just brings so many questions to mind; why an electric guitar breakdown right into a downtempo bridge, without any kind of transition? Why do so many of these lines not even try to rhyme? Was this whole monarchy theme employed just for that dick size joke? Or was it just for that chess example? And most importantly: Why is this song, despite all of these disparate elements, so utterly bland? [4]

Alex Clifton: A perfect bite-size pocket of sugar with Eurodance synths and a chorus that'll cling to my brain for the next week. I'm a simple girl with extremely basic needs and while this isn't the greatest song in the universe, it will fit perfectly on my "list of dance songs for quarancleaning." [6]

Why did I Choose My Username: I was going through a lot of changes in my life at the time; I had just broken up with my partner of four years, was in between changing my major, got a promotion, was changing my diet and fitness lifestyle and wanted to do some self-discovery. President DG Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a famous industrialist Kh. Jalal-ud-Din Roomi called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar to discuss humanitarian activities. It was agreed to start a soft loan scheme for youth in Multan. Jalal-ud-Roomi Foundation will provide loans to the needy youth while more almonries will also be established at public places in Multan and DG Khan. Jalal-ud-Roomi apprised the CM about solar-powered water filtration plants' projects and thanked him for initiating plots' allotment in small industries corporation. The CM assured to provide incentives and opportunities for business activities and stated that Muzaffargarh industrial estate will be given the status of the special economic zone to provide job opportunities to the youth. He expressed satisfaction over the restoration of 11 filtration plants in Multan and appreciated the social work done by Jalal-ud-Din Roomi Foundation.

Jalal-ud-Din Roomi said that the foundation will also manage 11 dysfunctional filtration plants in Multan. Meanwhile, free medicines were being provided in Multan and DG Khan hospitals. CM Usman Buzdar is serving the masses in a real manner and steps taken by the government for the promotion of trade and industry are praiseworthy, he added.

CM HOLDS MEETING TO REVIEW JAIL REFORMS

LAHORE, September 28:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting at his office to review progress on jail reforms. He approved to celebrate Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Week in jails. The CM will announce a prison package for jail officials and prisoners on the occasion of Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Week. The meeting decided in principle to approve the phase-wise filling of vacant posts in jails and the CM directed to devise a foolproof mechanism for the provision of quality items for prisoners at canteens at fixed rates. The participants agreed in principle to allow prisoners to bring cushions, quilts etc from homes. The meeting was told that the installation of dish antennas/ cable facility has been started in prisoners' barracks in the direction of CM Punjab.

The CM reiterated that protection of prisoners' rights will be ensured and no one will be allowed any exploitation. The provision of suitable payments to prisoners working in jails be ensured; he said and directed to overcome the shortage of doctors, paramedics and medicines in jail hospitals for providing the best treatment facilities to the inmates. The ambulance service be started to shift prisoners to hospitals in case of emergency and work be started on projects to shift jails on solar energy, concluded the CM.

CM CONDOLES DEATH OF THE MOTHER OF SENIOR PRO MUHAMMAD RAFI ULLAH

LAHORE, September 28:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the death of the mother of Senior PRO in Chief Minister's Office Muhammad Rafi Ullah, DG Performance Audit Dr Samiullah Tippu and Muhammad Ali Khalil and extended sympathies to the bereaved family. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the heirs to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.

Her funeral prayer was offered at Sabzazar which was largely attended by people from different walks of life including Secretary Information Raja Jahangir Anwar, officials of the CMO and DGPR offices as well as the journalist community.

Quran Khawani and Dua will be held at Masjid Gulzar-e-Habib, E-Block, Sabzazar at 3:00 pm today.

CM MESSAGE ON WORLD HEART DAY

LAHORE, September 28:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said a simple way of life, pure food and observance of principles of Sunnah (PBUH) help in safety from cardiac diseases.

In his message, the CM said a healthy way of life is the best solution to avoid cardiac diseases and it is also important to avoid smoking. He appealed to the citizens to take care of their health and added that people suffering from cardiac diseases should be very careful to avoid dengue and coronavirus. The government was providing the best facilities to cardiac patients through SehatInsaaf Card and the cardiology institute was being established in DG Khan, he continued. Similarly, projects are underway to construct and revamp cardiology wards at divisional and district hospitals. Female objectification in the music industry.

It’s no secret that women get extremely objectified in any area of media, but today we are going to talk about the female objectification in the music industry.

The following post is strictly my opinion. Don’t agree? Move on. Or open the TV to see everything I’ll rant about.

Besides the music videos in which women are always objectified to some degree, be it a male or a female’s music video (see zara larsson or dua lipa’s music videos) the stage apperances are also incredibly degrading.

First of all, if you consider that looking like a prostitute or like a stripper is empowering to a woman, you should stop reading now because you’re only going o get offended. Not only that but you’re very sexist and I don’t need this on my blog.

Let’s take a look at some influential female singers:

If you think that showing up dressed like this in front of a bunch of 12-15 year old girls and their parents is okay, then you’ve got a major issue.

Not to mention their backup dancers are also female and also objectified. If you think Little Mix or Fifth Harmony are feminist bands or “girl power icons” you have no idea about what those terms are supposed to mean.

Not to mention acting/posing like lesbians for the male gaze is disgusting and these girls have no principals whatsoever.

How are you influencing your fanbase? To look like strippers and to pose like lesbians so they can arouse some dumb dudes? Oh, surely not adhering to the disgusting female objectification stereotypes I hope.

Now let’s see- gender stereotyping and hierachy in action. The male is fully dressed, hairy, not a single effort being put in, while the women look like some nice decors/dolls around him, almost naked and perfect for the male audience to consume. The straight female audience? F*ck that. They will see an unattractive fully clothed man and they should be happy with that.

If we have gender equality, then why are men not dressed like this? It would surely make them attractive, given this is the purpose of these outfits, right? Oh wait- men don’t have to dress like strippers for succes. Equality to the maximum.

This isn’t feminism. Prostitution always happened and women were always allowed to do it even when it was illegal. At some point this was the only job a woman could have. It isn’t empowering and it isn’t okay to promote this image to little girls and little boys. Or young people in general.

In my country, prostitution is illegal, but it still happens, brothels still work, video chat studios are out proud on the streets and strip clubs are at every step. But there is not a single male strip club. Men are not allowed to work at video chat studios and there aren’t brothels for them. What does that tell you? Is this a feminist issue you want to fight for? Or could you focus on more important things- like the fact that a woman can’t be all natural because she will be considered dirty. Or that women are encouraged to constantly alter themselves for other people’s approval. This are issues in the 3rd world countries and you should fight those, not make lobby for even more female objectification.

Dá para entender por quê. Um estudo divulgado em agosto de 2018 aponta que apenas 14% dos membros da Academia Brasileira de Ciências são mulheres. No resto do mundo, a realidade não é tão diferente: menos de 30% dos pesquisadores de STEM (ciência, tecnologia, engenharia e matemática, na sigla em inglês) ao redor do globo são do sexo feminino, segundo a Unesco.

There’s a number of themes Brison could have been featured in, being a Chemistry PhD candidate, educator, keen dancer, and feminist. However today we’re exploring Brison’s job as an Enologist in the Santa Cruz mountains, California .

Brison nurtured her interest in wine when visiting wine bars. She would write in her notebook about the wines she drank and eventually built up a repertoire of wines. This knowledge in crucial for Brison’s present day role as an Enologist .

Enologists are responsible for elucidating the characteristics of the wine during every step of the process, starting from the grape. The science discovered by Enologists ultimately helps Winemakers navigate production .

Scaling and moving wines barrels make enology a physical job, and with hands stained purple by the end of the day, a messy one too. Brison has documented the death of her jeans whilst crushed between barrels .

With a meagre 10% of lead winemakers as women in California (2012), the industry has yet to achieve parity. Brison is honest about the resultant ugly challenges and discrimination faced .

However as consumers, we can pressure wineries to ensure equality, and it starts by buying wine made by women (see Brison’s latest post) .

I am currently investigating the epigenetic mechanisms underlying susceptibility to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using patient-derived neurons from a Dutch military cohort. Cool right? I am super excited to work on this project! •

Throughout the years I have grown passionate about Neuroethics, a topic that I believe is under-appreciated. That is why I decided to create a podcast “Neuroethics Police” to raise awareness on the ethical and societal implications of neuroscience research and practices. •

#MulherCientista A Segunda Guerra Mundial representa – ainda que por um péssimo motivo – uma virada histórica importante para as mulheres. Com os homens morrendo no campo de batalha, elas precisaram ocupar cargos na indústria, na ciência e na tecnologia que antes eram inacessíveis por discriminação de gênero. Gertrude Elion nasceu em 1918 e perdeu o avô para um câncer na adolescência. Cursou Química na Universidade de Nova York com o intuito de se dedicar a pesquisa de tratamentos contra os tumores, mas não conseguiu emprego na área. O jogo virou com a eclosão do conflito. Em meados da década de 1940, ela foi contratada pelo laboratório que daria origem, posteriormente, à GlaxoSmithKline. Em parceria com seu supervisor, George Hitchings, a jovem farmacêutica começou a criar remédios levando em consideração as substâncias anômalas que encontrava ao analisar células cancerígenas mortas – um método mais eficaz que a simples tentativa e erro. Elion realizou o desejo que deu o pontapé inicial na sua carreira – e criou um importante remédio no combate à leucemia infantil. Mas sua maior contribuição foi outra: desenvolver um tratamento que impedia a rejeição de rins quando o transplante era feito por um doador sem parentesco com o paciente. Ela ganhou o Prêmio Nobel de Medicina ou Fisiologia em 1988.
