Rocket Raccoon Character Analysis
As I explore the character of Rocket Raccoon and reflect upon my own experiences, I find intriguing connections that resonate with my identity. Rocket Raccoon is a complex character who, despite being a talking raccoon, struggles with various challenges that resonate so perfectly to me, it feels as if he was made specifically for me.
Rocket's portrayal as a social outcast strikes a chord with me, but there’s something more than that. I often find myself feeling disconnected from the people around me, struggling to fit into societal norms and expectations. Rocket's alienation from society serves as a reflection of my own experiences as a social outcast. However, it isn’t just that I don’t fit in because I don’t want to, it’s because I have been told to mould myself into something I am not from birth. Rocket wasn't born, he was made. He didn't get to choose how people would perceive him, that choice was made for him. Rocket is constantly shown in media to be broken or scarred, and that this is something that should evoke pity out of the audience. In the MCU movie Guardians of the Galaxy we see a scene where Rocket's back is exposed, showing metal bits embedded into his skin, probably to hold him together. This isn't a modification Rocket chose for himself, his cruel creator chose it for him. I, as a transgender person, experience this every single day. I am stuck in a body I didn’t choose for myself.
Rocket is verbally abused constantly since the very moment we meet him. He is called creepy, beast, weird, and many many other names meant to degrade him. Even his friends constantly call him these things. Even if people don’t tell me these things, I can see it. In the language I am referred to in, in the ways people look at me, just like the way Chris Pratt’s character looks at Rocket’s ‘disfigured’ back. I am not natural. I am not normal. This is not something I can change, to even try to ignore it is a death sentence, it’s to kill a part of me and walk around with the shrapnel stabbing at me. I am forced to be who I am in a world that considers the very idea disgusting, or to turn myself inside out trying not to be that way.
Rocket struggles to accept compliments and praise, and he returns any attempt at them from others with insults or brushing it off. I, too, find it difficult to receive praise and often downplay or dismiss compliments directed at me. Rocket's tendency to deflect compliments mirrors my own challenges in acknowledging that others do care for me. It’s much easier, more romantic at least, to live in a world where absolutely nobody accepts me. It is not very easy to come to terms with the fact that there are not only people unlike the system I am stuck in, but that those people are finite. I don’t want to accept that these people are real, because if I do it simply shows that I have vulnerability, I have something that can be taken away from me. Rocket pushes people away for what he considers the safety of himself and the safety of others. He tends to disregard his own emotions and consider them irrelevant if it means that others might be inconvenienced, as I often do. Rocket’s desire for connection despite not knowing how to attain it aligns with my own yearning for meaningful relationships. We both long for connections that go beyond surface-level interactions, but often struggle to navigate the complexities of building and maintaining those connections.
If Rocket's journey is to have a happy ending, everything that is crucial to society, both fictional and in the real world, would have to be torn down. That’s what I admire about Rocket. He will never be accepted, he will never be normal, and yet he keeps going, he keeps fighting and walking and flying. And it’s the fact that he does that, not just why, that makes him such a personal character to me.

Noah's Ark for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
You know how the story of Caesar is inspired by Moses? Freeing his people and taking them to the promised lands?
Well, to continue this trend of using events and figures from the Bible as inspiration, Noa from Kingdom is based on Noah. They're not subtle about it at all.
Our main ape is named Noa, he saves his people from a flood, and there's a very big boat in the background for good measure. In case it wasn't obvious enough!
However, I believe we are not done with the similarities to Noah from the Bible. The story of Caesar as Moses happened in both Rise and War, actually. So if the similarities to Noah will continue in this new trilogy...what will that look like? Time to speculate!
First things first...we need an Ark, right? What will that look like? For this post and speculation, I will use other movies for inspiration!
Note: I'm not saying these movies were purposefully based on Noah's Ark. This is mostly for ideas and inspiration.
I've thought of bunkers, planes, and boats.
Bunker as the Ark
Okay, this idea came to me after watching Greenland with Gerard Butler. In Greenland, we follow John who has to take his family to a bunker in Greenland because an asteroid is going to hit earth that will wipe out all life. I know a bunker is not a big method of transportation like a boat, but here's why it could fit!
The flood from the Bible was a world-ending event that wiped out everything, right? Well, bunkers are built to withstand world-ending events! Maybe there's a big danger like a virus or bomb that the apes will need to escape from by hunkering down in a bunker.
Even in Kingdom, the apes have to climb deep within the bunker/vault in order to save themselves from the flood. Maybe foreshadowing that a bunker will save them from another "flood" event in the future?
In Greenland, the humans leave the bunker once the dust has settled after nine months of living underground. One of the first things they see are birds, a sign that there is still life on earth. This reminds me of how Noah used birds to see if the waters from the flood had receded enough for it to be safe to leave the Ark. This also makes me think of how Noa's clan raises eagles...
The POTA franchise has always used bunkers in in its story, all the way back to the originals with the mutants from Beneath the Planet of the Apes that lived underground.
Aircraft as an Ark
Some movies/shows that come to mind that use aircraft, planes, and even spaceships as an Ark are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Thor Ragnarok, and The Handmaid's Tale.
In GotG Vol. 3, the movie ends with a bunch of animals escaping an exploding spaceship by getting on Knowhere, a spaceship/planet. This reminds me of how Noah had two of each animal on the Ark.
In Thor Ragnarok, Thor gets the people of Asgard on a spaceship in order to escape the destruction of their home world, Asgard.
In season 3 of The Handmaid's Tale, June and other rebels create a plan to get a bunch of children out of Gilead by having them escape on an airplane.
Even before this, when June learns how many others agreed to help, she jokingly replies, "We're gonna need a bigger boat."
I did create this post earlier this year where I discuss how Kingdom could be foreshadowing Noa taking flight in an aircraft. Where would the apes get a plane? Where would they go? And if it's a plane, what would they be escaping? The humans? Maybe it's both apes and humans escaping something? Other humans? A bomb? A virus? A natural disaster?
Boat as an Ark
This one is very on the nose, lol. I don't have other movies as examples for this one, but the story of Noah uses a literal boat, so I don't think I need to find other examples to prove this as a possibility. I personally don't think it would be a boat, but it could be another neat way to show how apes are advancing. And considering how apes die by drowning a lot in Kingdom, and how other movies like the 2001 POTA shows apes being afraid of water, apes getting on a boat could be a neat way to show how they're no longer afraid of the water?
Soooo that's all I got. A bunker is the one that makes the most sense. I also really like the idea of planes and apes advancing enough to understand flight. Boats I'm not very confident on, but I'm open to all possibilities. Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas!
#another one of my POTA yap sessions#planet of the apes#kingdom of the planet of the apes#pota#kotpota#noa pota#mae pota#I thought I'd be running out of things to talk about for this movie by now#apparently not#my personal favorite is an airplane#but bunker makes way more sense tbh#doesn't noah from the bible get drunk btw?#my theory

Imagine Peter Rekindling His Crush On You
Peter Quill X FemReader
Rating: T
Warnings: Suggestive themes, spoilers, mentions of an abusive relationship, fluff
Word Count: 1.4k
(A/N:) Okay I have seen GOTG Vol. 3 twice now and I freaking LOVE this movie! It has reignited my love of Peter. I had this idea and I had to write it! I’m even staying up late to get it done as I want to get it posted ASAP! I hope my fellow Peter fangirls enjoy it as it has a little bit of angst and fluff. I had so much fun writing this and I hope I can get more ideas to write for Peter! Until next time happy reading! ~Countess
SPOILERS FOR GOTG VOL. 3 BELOW!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE MOVIE!!!
A week had gone by since Peter had returned to Earth and it had been pretty calm so far. Catching up with his grandfather had been easier than expected and his last remaining Terran relative welcomed him back like the prodigal son. But now Peter was wanting to find more people he had known all those years ago. It didn’t take long until his thoughts had begun to dwell on you. He remembered the crush he had harbored for you, even after Yondu had taken him away his thoughts had gone back to you if he was in need of something good to remember. He asked his grandpa about you, but for some reason the older man was keeping quiet about you. It aggravated Peter but he didn’t ask much, not wanting to push his grandpa’s buttons too much. Though he couldn’t shake the feeling that the older man was up to something.
It shocked Peter that one fateful day that you turned up to his grandpa’s front door, like it was the most normal thing in the world. You waltzed in easily, hands full with vegetables.
“Mr. Quill I brought you...,” you paused almost dropping your bundle of goods. You fumbled around, regaining control but still staring at Peter who sat on the couch. Normally he would have laughed at someone giving him such a look but he knew he had to have the same expression on his face. While he still loved Gamora so much, it was a blessing to see you once again. You aged, just as he had but he couldn’t help but see how much of a beautiful woman you had become.
“Peter,” you asked as tears pricked the corners of your eyes.
“Hi (Y/N),” Peter spoke while rising from the couch. He took the vegetables from you and laid them on the kitchen counter. You followed close behind, still unbelieving that Peter was standing right in front of you. Grown and more handsome than you could have ever imagined. You swallowed loudly, stepping closer to him. He leaned backwards, suddenly uncomfortable with how close you were. You suddenly hugged him, shocking him more.
“It really is you!”
Peter chuckled finally hugging you back, “Yeah. I had some loose ends to fix.”
You punched his shoulder roughly.
“Ow! What was that for,” he squalled.
“For leaving without saying goodbye,” you glared.
“I had no choice!”
You continued to glare before relenting. It wasn’t Peter’s fault, you knew that. But it had hurt that day that he had disappeared. You were sure he was as good as dead until you had saw Thanos’ defeat and Peter had stood amongst the heroes that had saved the Earth. But now with him standing in front of you in person, the relief was becoming so overwhelming. You had thought about him a lot since then and you were afraid that you would never get to see him again. Or that if you did get to see him, he wouldn’t remember you at all. But now you were so relieved that that wasn’t the case. You hugged him again, but this time he was scared you would punch him again. Peter held you away from him about to say something else when you looked down. A little boy that hid behind you, tugged on the hem of your shirt. Looking up at Peter with large bright eyes. Of course, you were married. Any guy would be stupid to pass you up, he just hated he was too late. You looked down at your son, rubbing the mop of his hair affectionately.
“Peter this is my son,” you pushed the little boy forward who pushed back too shy to stand before Peter.
Peter’s eyes went from the young boy to your left hand. He didn’t spy a ring on your finger, but that didn’t mean you weren’t taken. He looked back to the boy who still was trying to escape. He squatted down getting eye level with him before smiling warmly.
“I’m a good friend of your mom’s,” he said holding out a hand. “We knew each other when we were kids.”
“Hi,” he answered timidly before looking back up towards you. Satisfied with him braving a new stranger you let him dart back behind you. You chuckled, shaking your head.
“He’s a little shy sorry about that,” you said.
Peter waved it off, though his heart hurt he was glad you found some happiness in life. You sent your son off to go play as Peter invited you to go outside to sit while you watched your son play. While you enjoyed the sunshine warming your face, Peter couldn’t help but look at your ring finger, the lack of ring bothering him. He didn’t have a right to be jealous of someone who had been there for you, but his heart was betraying him.
You were enjoying the silence, just glad to see Peter once again when he interrupted the silence.
“Who’s the lucky man,” he finally asked. His curiosity and jealousy too much to bear. You stiffened, refusing to look at Peter. You were really hoping he wouldn’t ask but of course he would once he saw your son. You sighed, deflating back into the chair.
“He’s not in our lives anymore,” you replied vaguely. Peter just continued to stare and you sighed again. “He left me a little after I gave birth. He was verbally abusive and he didn’t really love me. He just lied to get to me. I married him like an idiot and I suffered since.”
Peter felt his rage starting to choke him, especially when he saw a stray tear make it’s way down your cheek. He couldn’t imagine someone being so cruel to you and leaving you alone to raise a child alone. His hands clenched into fists as he trembled in rage.
“He didn’t deserve you,” Peter snarled.
You jumped in your chair, surprised at the anger in Peter’s voice. Every emotion began to swirl inside your mind as you saw how much he actually cared about you.
“Any man that is dumb enough to marry you and knock you up just to belittle you and abandon you is not worth anything in any universe.”
Peter thought about his father who had killed his mother and left Peter alone in the world. If it hadn’t been for Yondu, in his own twisted way, rescuing him he wouldn’t be here talking with you. Peter suddenly took your hand giving it a gentle but firm squeeze.
“You deserve better,” Peter continued.
You laughed nervously a blush darkening your cheeks. “Laying that Quill charm on thick aren’t we?”
“I’m serious,” Peter replied. “He deserves better too.” He gestured to the little boy racing around the yard, giggling gleefully. You touched your cheek, surprised to find tears streaking your skin.
“I’ve missed you,” you whispered. Sure you had been so young when Peter left but it had left a void in your life you had tried to ignore. But now with him back on Earth and a grown man, you found that he had meant more to you than anything. You felt foolish for finding someone else to take his place and the one you found had been a waste of time. Your son was the only good thing that had come from that relationship and marriage. Peter tugged you back into another embrace, kissing your cheek. His beard quickly catching your tears as you clung to him tightly.
“I missed you too,” Peter said. He never wanted to let you go now that you were back in his life. While Gamora still hurt, he found that holding you and seeing you again felt right. He felt a conviction well up inside him, that he wanted to show you how much of a real man he could be.
“Can I take you and him out sometime,” he asked.
You sniffed before nodding. “I would like that very much.”
“Be prepared for the best date of your life,” he announced making you laugh.
“I’ll hold you to that,” you smiled through your tears.
“I want you too,” he replied before jumping up from his chair. He kissed you again before taking off after your son. The little boy squealed as Peter chased him around the yard, scooping him up and throwing him up in the air. You couldn’t lie to yourself anymore as old feelings came back to you. Peter was back in your life and you couldn’t say it was a bad thing at all.

Starbula Week, Day 4: Oblivious / Realization
Since I still haven't visualized the exact scenario when Nebula has her "oh" moment of realizing her feelings for Peter (I just have a vague idea of it being after nearly a year of developing their unexpectedly close friendship and becoming team co-leads, post-Endgame; there are too many amazing scenarios to pin down one just yet), I thought I'd share my headcanon of how *Peter* realized his feelings for Nebula...
…by sharing the fantastic fic that explores this, Accidentally in Love. So today is just a recommendation to read that fic if you haven’t yet -- it's one of my favorite Starbula fics! 😆
Basically post-GOTG Vol 3, Nebula goes to earth to visit the Starks and Peter tags along, and while observing this side of Nebula he'd never known before, he finds himself realizing his true feelings for her... 🥲 SO GOOD!
The only change I make in my own headcanon version of this scenario is that Nebula actually comes to earth for Morgan's birthday party, and Peter somehow tags along to the party. Here are a few more (fun, in my biased opinion) details that go along with that scenario!
Maybe Nebula lets Peter know she'll be coming to earth and asks if he'd like to get lunch before the party, since she'll be in the neighborhood (so to speak). And once Peter learns she's coming for a birthday party, he weasels his way into coming too...even though he's never actually met Pepper and Morgan before. Pepper, of course, is aware of Nebula's feelings for Peter and is secretly elated about the extra guest, so she says of course he can join.
So it's at Morgan's birthday party (which is basically an all-ages party at the Stark's house, with friends like Rhodey in attendance) that Peter gets to see this new side of Nebula. The side that held Morgan when she was an infant, and played dress up with her during her infrequent visits to earth (Peter would definitely get a kick out of watching videos from the five years post-Snap provided by FRIDAY), and was a treasured part of this family. Peter would get to put some of the final pieces together of understanding the unique, complicated, and truly special person Nebula is, and at some point during the party, he'd finally have his "oh" moment.
Maybe it's while watching Nebula dancing goofily with Morgan. Maybe it's when he sees Nebula talking with Rhodey and getting irrationally jealous of her friendship with him. Maybe it's hearing stories about Nebula's growth and journey over the five years that he'd missed from Pepper. IDK, there are so many options in this scenario and I love them all lmao. Definitely partial to the Peter-being-jealous one, though. Maybe that's what tips him off to something being different near the start of the party, and things go on from there.
I also definitely headcanon that once the party is winding down that evening, Pepper insists that Peter and Nebula stay over at their home for the night. Since Pepper and Morgan get to see Nebula so infrequently, I bet she could be easily convinced to just stay over and leave after breakfast the next day, getting a little more time with them. And Peter absolutely doesn't want to leave Nebula's side, not that day's realization, so he's grateful for a little extra time.
That unlocks even more amazing Starbula moments at the Stark cabin...
For example, the two of them sitting alone at the Stark's fire pit, roasting marshmallows and waiting for Pepper to put Morgan to bed. Peter would be uncharacteristically quiet because he's still reeling from the realization that he has romantic feelings for one of his best friends, and maybe has been for a while. Nebula would be oblivious to this, of course, but would be able to clock that Peter's being kind of weird. But it's like a cute weird for them, idk how to explain 🥺
And then maybe once Pepper eventually goes to bed herself, the two then somehow end up stargazing while laying on the dock of the Stark's pond. They point out stars that Nebula can see from Knowhere and recount stories of their adventures across these stars. While Nebula is simply content to be with the man she loves, Peter is trying hard to hide the fact that he's having a mini-mental breakdown lolol.
Then as they're leaving the next morning, Pepper says something to Peter that lets him know that she knows. And that she is happy for him, and for Nebula. Of course, once again, Nebula is totally oblivious. (I'm SUCH a sucker for the idea that over the next several months (maybe a year?), Peter's pining for Nebula continues to grow comically large, while she remains completely unaware -- never even considering the fact that the man she loves could ever feel the same. It's SO GOOD ARGHGHH.)
And finally, when Nebula drops Peter back off in Missouri before returning to space, Peter watches her go and feels his heart drop to his feet.
...Shit.
-------
Anyway, this is officially your PSA to read Accidentally in Love, along with the additional headcanon twist I’ve added to it! 😆 Happy Starbula Week day 4! 🎉

Spoiler free (except what was shown in trailers) GotG Vol. 3 review...
1. You should probably look at TW/CW before going. If you've seen the trailer or a James Gunn movie or know anything about the High Evolutionary, you can probably guess some of what comes up. I'll try to reblog a few spoiler free ones because there is some rough stuff in that movie. If you have specific questions, you can message me.
2. It is good. Like really damn good. The plot flows, it hits some classic tropes, but doesn't just redo an old MCU plot. Genuinely, I think this is a top 3 or 4 MCU movie for me, and the GotG have never been my favorite characters or favorite movies.
3. It is dark and deeply sad. I tear up at movies sometimes, but I was actively sobbing at several points. There are scenes that even thinking about makes me sad all over.
4. The ending worked for me. I'll do another post on that when more people have seen it.
5. Overall, so so so good, just an amazing conclusion to the trilogy... but I don't know if I can physically put myself through watching it again.

GOTG Holiday Special rewrite/subplot additions
(alt title: Damn, Yondu got a funeral and two follow ups and he was an a-hole of a dad, but Gamora was a core member, a love interest, and a mom and gets nothing??? Lemme fix that.)
Take this with a grain of salt, as with all fanworks, this is for me and i’m just sharing it with you. It’s also a messy rambling outline so. if you have more questions or ideas, message me or make your own post.
Stakar and Aleta Orgord, the Ravager Leaders, send a single helmeted person to hunt The Guardians down and give them a box. It should be easy, they just bought a new base.
It cuts to the Guardians on Knowhere, looking at at a message from the planet Zen-Whoberi. In-between Infinity War and Endgame, Rocket and Nebula were able to bury the Guardian!Gamora on Zen-Whoberi. Now that people were returned from the Blip, there were some arguments and Gamora’s remains now need to be moved. Peter is distraught, but he goes with Rocket and Groot to pick up the body.
Mantis, Drax and Nebula stay behind. Mantis, seeing how Peter is sad, checks a calendar. It’s almost Christmastime! She remembers in the time between Vol 2 to now that he does celebrate it. He usually does something small; a gift exchange, splurging on a good sit down meal. This year Mantis wants to go BIG.
Kraglin tries to talk her out of it, but Drax and Nebula back her up. Drax because now they have a Permanent Base in the form of Knowhere he’d like to make good memories. And Nebula also had been invited to the Stark’s Extended Family Christmas parties and wants a little more of that cheer.
In the background the helmeted person leaves the Box on Knowhere, it looks ominous but it’s soon lost and swept up in the Christmas planning. Nebula looks at it thoughtfully.
So now we have two running plots, one a somber grieving of Gamora and discussion of what she would have wanted. And one Christmastime with Aliens Mania. Decorating, discussing traditions, going to a gay bar and stealing Kevin Bacon.
Add in some details that Rocket remembering Lylla and his first family, that Groot also considered Guardian!Gamora his mother. Peter did go to the Stark funeral, but...emphasis on the implication that he’s been running for so long that he’s never slowed down to process that grief. Picking up her remains forces him to start thinking and that foreshadows in Vol 3 where he knows he can’t “fix” Feral!Gamora and he’s a bit of a mess.
It’s just a toss up if they steal Kevin Bacon before the others get back and Cosmo is the one to object to human trafficking. But Kevin calms down and celebrates with them.
Peter, Rocket and Groot come back to a highly decorated Knowhere with food and cheer and it’s just the thing to remind them of what they have now. Mantis tells him they are siblings and Peter is thrilled.
Groot opens the Ravager box for everyone - it’s fabric and leather with a new logo for the Guardians for them to make their own outfits. As a congratulations, a peace offering from the Ravagers.
Nebula gives Rocket the prosthetic arm. “How in the heck didja manage to get this?”
There’s a flashback with Bucky and Nebula. “I want the arm for my friend for Christmas. I don’t wish to harm you...much.” “Hey If I just give it it’s gonna look suspicious. So. Let’s make the fight look good.”
Nebula replies: “The Spirit of Christmas possessed me and gave me the strength not to kill him.”
After Kevin returns home, after the major gift giving and it winds down, they hold a second funeral for Gamora.
Her remains are burned like Yondu’s were and released outside of Knowhere to the song “Rubberband man”. The Ravager ships show up and throw some fireworks. Referencing her nearly dying in space with Peter in Vol 1 and the song she was singing in IW. In a way, she’s there with them at their new home, with her family.
Cut to credits.
end credits scene where Feral!Gamora was the helmeted person and was watching the funeral from afar. “This is a waste of time and resources. I’ve never even seen such foolish warriors. How did they even manage to save the galaxy?”
Nebula jumps in on the communication. “Twice. Even more if you look close enough.”
“I suppose I will have to take your word for it. It’s...good to talk to you again, sister. You were the one I hated least.” Gamora tips up her chin.
Nebula grunts and tips up her chin. “I understand if you don’t want to stay.”
“I suppose...it’s difficult. You’ve always been compared to me, and now - I feel as if I go back, I’ll be compared to myself.”
“Whoever you turn out to be. You will always be my sister.”
Gamora smiles and turns away.

Right before seeing vol 3 I saw a post where someone shared a comment James Gunn made. A person asked him how Groot took Gamora's death. James answered he took it hard because she was like a mother to him. I think that whole exchange encompasses why the handling of Gamora's character since Infinity War hasn't been all that awesome. When people have to ask how one character feels about another characters death, it means you've failed to show proper mourning. I cried so many tears for Rocket watching vol 3. But my heart hurt for Gamora too. Why couldn't we see a fraction of the kind of love poured out for Rocket shown in respect for Gamora's death. I know time had passed but that's no excuse. There were still ways to show love and hurt. There were ways to show 2014 Gamora she was loved even if she wasn't ready or willing to reciprocate. After all she helped save Rocket and took on risks despite having no past experiences with them. I think that alone was more than enough reason to do something bigger to show appreciation for her characters part in the entire gotg saga.
I saw that too and it broke my heart. But you’re absolutely right, if people need to be asking, it’s not being conveyed properly, and it wouldn’t have hurt them to include that somewhere in any one of these movies since her death even briefly. Even with focusing on Peter’s loss, at any point someone could have said “I get it tho I miss her too”?? But we never get something like that

What sports do/have you played?
used to do swimming. as in competition. and then i got my first period early and my mum and trainer did not see eye to eye abt that so i didn't go far with it before i gave up on it. no official courses after that. i wanted to do field hockey but a lot of my school bullies were doing that already, so that was a no. considered badminton to learn officially bc i loved to play it leisurely but never did, and that was that tbh...
wait, does dance count? i did hip hop actually when i was 10-ish but i was terrible at it (and still am - zero feeling for rhythm, i can't even jump up and down in synic wth everyone else at metal concerts), so that didn't last long...

I'm late to the gotg 3 convo. I didn't catch the movie while it was in theaters. I was pretty spoiled before recently watching it but still wanted to see for myself. With only the one watch thru there may be scenes I need to see again but for now I would say vol 3 has a few problems with consistency, arcs and explanations that are easy to want to overlook due to the movie ending in a decently optimistic way. That doesn't change that the problems are there. The one that stands out most is Rocket becoming Captain. I don't mind that he becomes the new leader but I do think the idea he would be better than Peter doesn't hold up. We've seen Peter be kind, selfless, grow and make hard choices. He's not perfect but no person is. I think the movie was trying to say his distraction over Gamora was a flaw that made him less worthy but that's not really fair. The way he lost Gamora would devastate anyone. You have to consider he had no idea where 2014 Gamora was and if she was safe or doing well. Any person would struggle under those conditions. We know from past movies that Rocket had anger and hurt he needed to work through for many years over what he experienced and losing his friends. He's so bitter he stole batteries just to cause trouble and that's what lead to some of what we see in vol 3. He's not perfect either. I think Peter could make him Captain without the implications he wasn't good enough at the job.
Mantis needing to move on also stood out. There was nothing in vol 2 or the holiday special hinting at her being unsatisfied doing work as a guardian and wanting to be on her own. I think this goes for everyone. There was nothing that pointed to them being held back by the family and team life they were living. When you think over how most of them weren't around for 5 years it makes it even more difficult to believe they were all over it when it comes to being a team. It's interesting Rocket and Groot got to remain together on the team when the others didn't and I think this was a little forced. Rocket was the only one who had been part of some team for years and years because he had his time with the guardians and then survived the snap to spend time with the Avengers.
The whole snap situation is another flaw in the movie for me. Rocket and Nebula spent all that time with other people and the movie acts like they have no relationships with anyone but the guardians. I saw your post about Gunn saying Rocket doesn't talk to Thor and that's ridiculous in my opinion. Why would Gamora spending 2 plus years with the ravagers make them her real family over being with her sister but those 5 years of relationships with the Avengers mean nothing for Rocket or Nebula. I noticed that Gunn only used that time as a basis for Nebula and Rocket to be close but didn't explore that logically there would be some big changes for both of them that have nothing to do with the guardians.
I am probably in the minority with this last thought but I think if you remove the events of IW and EG vol 3 would still have problems because vol 2 and 3 don't fit together either. Vol 2 has the characters realizing for the first time that they are a family and they are still figuring out what it means to be a team. Going from that to what we get in vol 3 would need more development. Some steps taken work but there are plots and parts of characters arcs that needed to have much earlier discussion and hints so that it felt more natural and not like last minute changes of heart or moments that were put in the movie just to get a particular ending without doing the work. That said IW and EG were major events that did take place and altered the course of the guardians team taking away a member of the family. That needed to be it's own well developed plot for all the characters.
i don't think you're in the minority with that opinion at all! literally one of my first thoughts after watching vol 3 the first time—which was via the imax marathon of all 3 gotg films back to back—is how disjointed it is from vol 1 and 2, in that you honestly can't rly watch all 3 together. but the problem is with how little vol 3 seems to pick up where iw/eg left off for the gotg emotionally, aside from peter grieving gamora (tho there are still major holes in that—like are we just going to ignore peter failing to keep his promise to kill gamora in iw and how that probably affected him?), vol 3 doesn't even feel like it properly follows those films either. it's like vol 3 exists in its own separate void and we're missing something to connect it to eg (neither tlat nor the holiday special rly did this either)
i agree with everything else you said here anon...vol 3 rly pulled an "i pretend i do not see" with a shit ton of stuff that happened to the characters in the years before it takes place, and it just made the viewing experience honestly rly confusing. and even some of vol 3's attempted self-contained stories/arcs still had major holes in terms of a lack of clarity for how the characters got from point a to point b, such as mantis wanting to leave (like you mentioned) and rocket becoming captain

parallels between gotg vol 3 and wolf 359 specifically finale and episode 41 memoria are driving me fucking insane (in a good way)
spoilers for both under cut
apologies its ramble-y and scattered
starting off strong with the rag tag team (gotg/hepheastus crew) against a higher, more powerful perfectionist force trying to remake life in their image of perfectionism (pryce and carter/high evolutionary). great. great start I LOVE IT but it does resonate. very much. and rockets arc is very hera in nature. created by pryce/high evolutionary. fighting their alphanumeric designations by asserting their names (unit 214/89p13) against their creators. like COME ON. the only difference is that the high evolutionary had some degree of respect and usage for rocket while pryce completely lacked any sort of respect for hera despite her ability ESPECIALLY post memoria. lol. but generally too just the overlap between pryce and carter/high evolutionary i can't get over. i know H.E. was injured pretty greatly but the whole replacing parts of the body/integrating tech and biology? sooooo miranda pryce. and the whole gamora amnesia is giving finale doug . ik that was established before hand but still.
the reverence of human music and art. in the case of wolf it wasnt the antagonist but bob. but same w H.E. in gotg. that scene where rocket was a baby basically and listening to music. and generally how gotg treats music throughout the film . and overall the protagonist "natural life is imperfect, beautiful, vulnerable and meaningful" vs antagonist "flaws must be perfected" and willing to go such extreme lengths to recreate the world !! (completely destroying entire planets i.e. w/ mines??? explosives in gotg and decima in w359
plus the ending... going separate ways in the end, uncertain how it actually pans out but gives you a good idea of character ambitions post action. like even the ending was similar in structure with the distinction you at least get a little bit of an idea what quill does when he gets back to earth.
other small ones include doug/quill alcoholism, specimen 34/those teethy monsters in gotg looking way more harmful than they actually are, and gamora/kepler eventually warming up to the rest of the crew when they realize how dire the stakes are.
JUST SAYING in a universe where doug eiffel made it to earth happily and . he is obviously watching mcu . just like me fr

Sorry if this seems random but I just saw your post about the gotg Christmas special and did they really not include Gamora at all?!? I haven't seen it yet but I was really hoping they'd do at least a little tribute to her by having a flashback or maybe even show her off doing something at the end that would tie into vol 3. I can't believe they didn't involve her in some way. Especially because gotg is so family oriented. Honestly this seems so insulting to her ccharacter. It's baffling.
Sorry for the late reply, I got sick and couldn't do much of anything. (Nothing serious, I'm fine now)
Nope, Gamora's just- not there. I thought the same about a flashback since I just thought 'Well they can't make an entire Christmas movie without one of the main characters, right?' And then I watch it and- well they did just that.
The thing is, there IS a pretty long flashback to Yondu and Peter when he was younger. So it's not like they couldn't have just done the same with her...
The only reference to Gamora is Mantis explaining that she wants to do something for Peter because he's sad about Gamora, and that's like one line. (The same one in the trailer, actually.)
I agree with you especially with Guardians revolving around the whole 'Found Family' trope. You'd think Marvel would just do a fun Christmas movie with the team spending time together and yet the entire plot only happens because Peter is dealing with yet another person he loved being dead way before they should.

All the art and animations I'll be working on in 2023!
Hi, everyone! We're entering a big new year, and I'd like to make a few announcements about all the different projects I'm planning to start and release in the coming year! First of all-
College Adventures will have its final season! Not a big surprise, but I do plan to journal my final semester in college to round out the series- it's been a crazy four years and I can't wait to close them off with you all! I already have several episodes planned! One of which being a REALLY BIG INTERVIEW with an extremely famous animator I managed to land!
Fanart for new releases: JoJo Part 9 will release in February, and hopefully Pokemon Adventures will round up ORAS in their volumes, SwSh in their magazine releases, and hopefully start SV soon! Which of course, means more JoJoMon content! And with more Gen 9 announcements hopefully coming this Feburary with Pokemon Day, I miiiight be able to free up some time and ideas for short voiced animatics too! No promises on that one, though. Do expect a lot more Pokespe content this year, though! Will I make a Pokespe Vines & Memes 3? Hmm... not that soon, but not never!
Pokeani content? Probably not, but who knows? Maybe Riko will surprise me, or maybe she'll also have to suffer 25 years of character assassination * shrugs *
The Guardians of the Galaxy marathon and my final moments with the MCU: I haven't formally announced it, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will by the final MCU project I watch, since James Gunn is moving on to DC and I want to end my MCU experience on a guaranteed high note. In honor of this, I plan on marathoning every film or special that the GotG have appeared in (GotG, GotG Vol 2, Infinity War, Endgame, Love and Thunder, and the GotG Holiday Special), and journaling down all my thoughts on every little character moment and easter egg and why I love this particular wing of the MCU so much. On top of that, you know I'll definitely be making tons of fanart for GotG3 when it drops, and I even have plans to make a voiced animatic in the leadup to its release, even if I'll be extremely busy with animation finals at that time- just because I love this series so much.
Wishful Thinking (Animated Short): I'm really sorry for still being so in the dark on this, but even though I'll be finishing up animation on the short before May, due to legal reasons I can't actually put it on Tumblr or Youtube until it finishes making the rounds at film festivals maybe sometime next year. I'll definitely see if I can put together a trailer at least, once I know for sure what the actual release date will be! I really hope everything goes well with this though- It's my biggest project ever and over three times longer than my last animated short, Flo's Cat Chase, so I really hope a lot of people watch it and like it Q_Q
More voice acting content for other people's projects! While these announcements may also take a while to come out, I will say that I have landed several decently-large voice acting roles in other projects, too! I'll definitely post proper announcements for them here when they come out!
The Great Unknown: Since I graduate from college this May, the rest of the year will probably consist of me moving across the country and trying to find a job- no idea how this will impact my content output, but I hope to spend all my time not working or job hunting making more comics, animations, and voice acting bits to expand my portfolio! I'll try my best to expand my YouTube channel during this time, too! Hopefully I can get a bit closer to my dream of becoming an animation showrunner!

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? Thanks....
Oh boy, this’ll be a bit of a long post! Alright I’ll try to keep this quick…
10. Toph Beifong: Look, what is there to say? If a young blind girl beating the shit out of ATLA’s version of Dwayne Johnson isn’t enough for Toph to be one of your faves, then you just have shit taste.
9. Power: A blood fiend with a bad attitude, Power serves as a foil to main character Denji, acting as a little sister/cat to his middle child/dog. Together, the pair make a hilarious dynamic duo, but also bring out the best and worst in each other, just like real siblings. Also Power is certified grossgirl rep.
8. Miles Morales: I wish I was more familiar with the comics, but even going off his incarnation in Spider-Verse alone, Miles has to be my favorite Spidey. He’s just so lovable and artistic and genuine, and his story is incredible. Proof that anyone can wear the mask and that you’re never facing the world alone, he’s an easy pick for my top 10.
7. Blitzo: Funny how his name sounds like blorbo, huh? Blitzo is a character that’s grown on me slowly, but the more I see of him the more interesting and entertaining he becomes, and the more I truly feel for this boss out of hell. As a later entry confirms, short angry men that shoot guns and swear a lot may just be an archetype I enjoy…
6. Jolyne Cujoh: The first (and so far only) JoJo not to be a man, Jolyne is every bit as badass as her predecessors. Her arc of personal growth is just utterly awesome, and her ultimate fate, while tragic, brings the curse upon her bloodline to an end.
5. Stolas Goetia: As a father single-handedly carrying the weight of one of the only engaging mlm relationships in animation, Stolas is a lot of fun to watch. Unabashedly horny, incompetently caring and all around dorky, this owl prince injects some much appreciated character drama into every scene he’s in.
4. Denji: Chainsaw Man’s titular titty-obsessed protagonist may not be your standard Shonen hero, but that’s what makes him so great. His simple but relatable desires keep his story grounded even as all the weirdness and horror ramp up. As if that weren’t enough, his fighting style is just the goriest, most brutal thing ever and I cannot get enough.
3. Bruno Bucciarati: Bucci Gang Rise Up! The adoptive mother figure of Vento Aureo, Bruno is one of those characters who would tech you valuable life lessons before asking if you want to help him commit some crime together, ie. the best kind of character. Not only that, but his stand, Sticky Fingers, is my absolute favorite stand with a unique and fun ability.
2. Angel Dust: Another Italian gangster with an open-breast white suit, it’s Angel Dust himself! From drag shows to mob violence to doing acid behind the Denny’s at 3 AM, Angel brings a lot to the table as a character. While his canon content may be lacking, his music video has me hooked waiting to see how his character will develop and very excited to see more of him. But as for my absolute favorite…
1. Rocket Raccoon: The GotG have been my favorite superhero team since I first started watching the MCU and the sheer novelty of a talking space raccoon with a gun as long as he is tall was enough for him to stick with me. However, his character arc of opening up to his new found family after years of trauma and loneliness, combined with his wholesome relationship with Groot, his best friend turned adopted son, elevated him from an ironic pick to my unironic favorite of all time. My one hope for GotG vol. 3? Rocket gets an actual happy ending for once. He deserves it.

Not sure if you can answer this but I've been away from fandom for a bit and a friend of mine just told me that he thinks Gamora's been written out of gotg? Apparently they're filming a new Christmas before vol 3 and reports say Gamora won't be in it. I thought she'd be a main character again in vol 3, but perhaps she's only a minor character now? I can't really see them doing a Christmas move without her if she was still the female lead. Maybe I've been misinformed?
i think you may have been misinformed, not much has leaked about the plot other than adam and gamora’s involvement in vol. three is more than confirmed. zoe saldana has been posting on her story almost every day from set so it’s safe to say she’s not being written out.
as for the holiday special, she may not be in that because i’m guessing they’re saving her return for the film because at that point in the story, the may not have located her yet. even if watching it without her will be weird.
but this is just from what i’ve seen & know so take it with a grain of salt :)

with regards to where we’ll be going with tony’s story from here:
since this is in the general endgame spoilers tag bc i don’t want to needlessly spoil people: if you are a personal/not a mutual please don’t touch this post. this is a roleplay verse for my portrayal of tony, and not a general fix-it for fic. thanks.
alright. okay. i’ve done some thinking, and it’s time to talk about where tony’s mcu verse is going to go from here, since obviously i can’t do shit with him in actual mcu canon now and definitely do not agree that was a fitting end to his character arc. i think it was a huge step backward, but we’ll leave that for another time. onward.
it’s not everyday you get to roll at least three verses into one, amirite?
first off, things i am willing to keep in a case-by-case, mun-by-mun basis: marrying pepper, having morgan. again, case-by-case, and my tony will not be dying in some huge character-reverting sacrifice that could have been avoided (and was for him in the comics - he’s used the infinity gauntlet there, too, and survived, so i ain’t wanna hear it was the only way bc that’s bullshit). i will not have his big fear of being like howard, not being there for his kid, to come true. that’s just not gonna fucking happen.
that’s it. that’s fucking all.
instead, tony’s gonna mostly diverge post-civil war/post-spider-man: homecoming, and here’s how.
x. guardians of the galaxy arc: after civil war/spider-man: homecoming tony’s headed to space for a while. what, that sound silly? for reference, please see guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 (616) and the invincible iron man (2013 - 616) for inspiration and some details. anyway, tony’s off to space for a year. to have space adventures, because i still fucking despise the mcu making him terrified of it, when tony stark has always looked to the stars and seen potential - that’s a character quirk that’s existed since the first moon landing. it’s canon he does space repairs on shuttles and stations. it’s canon that he likes to go to houston and watch the shuttles land. so tony’s gonna get to spend some time among the stars, to see what he can see, to see what potential allies and good and advancement there is out there. and, if any gotg muns are interested, he can hook up and be a guardian for a while like he did in 616. events will vary, but he’ll spend around a year out there before coming home to Earth. there won’t be any hooplah he’s just gonna show back up one day. and it lets me play with godkiller, don’t @ me. this also leaves things open for stuff on sakkar? and with asgardians?? and all kinds of fun things to happen while out in the great black expanse.
x. director of shield arc: amanda, aren’t those reversed? yeah, so? this isn’t gonna be an exact translation of 616 to mcu. things are allowed to shift around a little. this one’s a pretty boilerplate plugging in of 616′s turn at shield’s helm. standard shield problems with bonus superhero bullshit. some of the same events may occur, they may not, but his tenure as director is going to be fairly shortlived one way or another, because tony stark is messy and not a desk jockey and can’t keep out of things (see: his own strike team). you know he’s gonna fuck up somewhere along the line eventually. and when he does, he’ll step down. does shield become hammer? well, that depends on the makeup of each thread. maybe sometimes. maybe sometimes after tony erases his own brain and has to be rebooted from a harddrive. it’s flexible.
x. illuminati arc: if any mcu/xmcu muns are interested in forming a mcu version of the illuminati, i’m fucking here for it. reed richards, tony stark, black bolt, stephen strange, namor, charles xavier - these six come together to each take an infinity stone (gem) and keep them separate and safe, swearing to never, ever use them. tony hides his in area 51. bad shit happens, gets fixed. ps. t’challa kind of knows what’s going on, the end.
after that? there’s a world of possibilities open. the avengers can reform, you can have formation of the various regional avengers, deal with old enemies that are supposed to be dead, pull from classic invincible iron man and avengers and tales of suspense, make up something completely new. because the point of this is that in the mcu, the avengers’ story was just beginning when it really, really got cut short with so many of the core members and pillars of support for them gone. this is, honestly, a bad end, that the 616 crew would try to avoid/fix.
#⚛ (protocol: psa) / gotta say this clear so you can get it straight#endgame spoilers#avengers spoilers#a4 spoilers#avengers endgame spoilers#avengers: endgame spoilers#mcu spoilers#marvel spoilers#iron man spoilers#// i think that's all the tags i've seen y'all blocking so#// anyway here's what's going on#// and i mean it's super flexible we can do w/e but#// in this house endgame especially does not exist#// we throw it out#// we throw it in the trash#// they had their chance to intro adam warlock#// and let nebula get her revenge#// and they fucked it up#// so we done#// we're peacing out#// we're making our own mcu#// with inhumans and fin fang foom

who wants to hear about a recent hyperfixation of mine?
too late im talking about it anyway
SO ive been more depressed than usual in the past few months and its not going well, but the one good thing is that it in combination with my anxiety-induced need to keep busy and my ADHD meds making my brain never shut up, i will hyperfixate onto anything unrelated to what’s making me depressed (my college and schoolwork whoops)
but anyways, i’ve watching both GotG movies like 4 times in these few months, and an alien that caught my eye is this Ravager with a ....beak?
you can never really see them up close, but i dig their face, and I’ve always been interested in the alien Ravagers, so i did some digging.
I found through the Marvel wikia on the Ravagers that this guy is a Xeronian! and there’s more! There was one in the crowd during GotG when Rocket and Groot capture Gamora, but she’s in the background, too. More prominent is a Xeronian in the Collector’s Museum during Thor: The Dark World (which i’m gonna watch later bcs this is super interesting to me lmao)
and SO this is where the hyperfocus gets real.
From the info on Xeronians in the wikia, based on which movies they’re in an the communities they’re part of, like the Ravagers and one civilian of Xandar, we know that they’re similar to the invidiual aliens of different races who’re there, too. BUT there has to be a reason for one Xeronian to be in the Collector’s possession.
Its like they’re rare enough of a species to be interesting to Taneleer Tivan, but common enough to live on Xandar and be a member of the Ravagers. This is similar to me with the dark elves from Thor: The Dark World, because Tanaleer also has one of them in his Museum, but they’re in abundance for Malekith to lead, though they’re different in that they’re a super old race and some other reasons, idk, i need to watch the movie again.
But I do know that the Xeronians are not super common, since we never see them in pairs or we have yet to see their own planet, unlike the moment in GotG 2 where Ego’s blob stuff was going to overtake the planet of the Easik (aliens with reptilian eyes and dotted scaley skin). So if they’re not rare, just less common, why does Taneleer have one?
That brings me to why I like them so much in the first place: they look super cool!
They don’t have beaks, its more of an insect-like carapace that covers their mouth and nose (at least for the actor, maybe their species doesn’t have them!). On their wikia its described as “large tusks that obscure most of their oral features” but they don’t look like tusks to me at all. I also love the intricate design on their forehead, which reminds me of cybernetics or ancient alien runes. It’s also interesting that they have eyebrows! I mean, obviously eyebrows help to read facial features and keep sweat out of your eyes, plus they also have head hair and eyelashes, so it makes sense physically, it just seems like an odd choice to me.
The makeup and SFX departmen obviously went less detailed with their prosthetics after GotG 1 (the bottom two pictures are from then, and the Ravager close up and imprisoned Xeronian are from the later films), which make sense as they’re not focal characters. Their faces are more like turtles than insects with the less-detailed makeup, to me anyways. I do love however the color scheme, super pale almost white with bright blue inner edges on their skin, large blue to black eyes, and black hair!
What’s also interesting is that if they actually have mouths, they seem to not be able to open them, so how do they eat? Or talk? You’d think that the Ravager being exploded by Rocket’s traps would be screaming there, but his “mouth” is closed. Maybe they don’t have mouths? I imagine if they did, even if they have a “tusk” or “carapace” covering them, the makeup would be sculpted to give their mouths an opening. I mean, obviously the prosthetics have small slits for the actor to breath through their mouth and nose (which is more obvious on the Ravager than they other characters), but no major opening.
I think that for Taneleer Tivan to be interested in Xeronians enough to actually have one alive in his Museum, he probably just digs their looks, too. Or maybe he thinks they’re super rare? I wish there was more info on them, but I haven’t found anything outside the wikia and James Gunn’s instagram.
HOWEVER it was news to me that Xeronians were not created just for the movies! They were featured in other Marvel comics, though they looked really....stupid. Way different, to the point I wouldn’t consider them the same species. The comics versions of Xeronians thrived on solar radiation, but I don’t think that carried over to the movie Xeronians. I mean, there’s no proof of that, but most creatures with super pale skin don’t go out in the sun (but aliens can do whatever they want, so idk).
I really hope we see more of them in GotG Vol. 3! Or even Avengers: Endgame or other space-related MCU films. i really REALLY like all the aliens in the Guardians and later Thor movies, so i’m glad there’s at least some info about them. And I’m glad there was pictures of their makeup up close!
I’m considering making a Xeronian character, but I need to find out more of their physicality before I’m certain. What does the rest of their bodies look like? Do they actually have mouths? Can they speak? Any special abilities? Why exactly does the Collector have one??? (that’s going to bother me forever I know it)
UPDATE: I checked the wikia again while writing this and went to James Gunn’s instagram, and in his posts about the Xeronians for the first movie, he mentions there were more than one actor, so awesome! Obviously there’s more of them than I could see in the movie, as well as what the wikia has in their gallery. He also mentions that the actors had a hard time talking while wearing the prosthetics, which I think means the mouthpiece doesn’t separate or move according to their mouth movements. So Xeronians don’t have the typical mouths, but maybe something more alien?
