Doing the Exhibition
Unit 2, Part D
Note: This was also written after I split Unit 2 into two blogs.
As for how the project will be shown/shared publicly, I’m using the internet, specifically Tumblr, which is an online public platform. I’m using Instagram to advertise the public showing.
My responsibilities in relation to the public showing include: gathering material, presenting the material, promoting the showing, motivating people to send me work, making my own work so I can contribute too, writing out captions and setting up the order of the posts. Other peoples’ responsibilities include: giving feedback and finding and sending work to me.
Delivering the public showing has involved posting pictures of art, deciding how the photos are to be presented and ordered, writing titles, captions and a brief description of how they were made for each and writing an introductory statement.
Leadership skills I have developed and applied throughout the process of managing the public showing include: communication, organizational, presentation, creative, motivational (both for myself and others), adaptability and planning. My communication skills have developed the most since I’ve been using communication the most (without communication, I would have hardly any material), and I’ve been using communication skills throughout the project. I used planning, creative and organizational skills predominately at the beginning of the project.
I’ve organised people mainly using Gmail and Whattsapp to contact participants, and Whattsapp is very useful for sending pictures through (i.e. it’s free and easy to use) and I’ve made separate folders in the ‘Gallery’ app on my phone, one titled ‘PostedArt’, art that I’ve already put on Here Be Artists, and another with the title ‘HereBeArtists’, art that I have yet to post (see photo below -it’s a screenshot from my phone). I’ve used Instagram to advertise Here Be Artists, but I’m also going to ask my friends and family to look at Here Be Artists, too. I am making liberal use of hashtags, as well, so it’s more likely people will notice them.
I am applying (and developing) my organizational skills when deciding which pictures of art to post and how to set out the feedback I gather in my sketchbook. Additionally, I’m developing adaptability and creativity in finding ways to make the art I have go further (mainly by editing them online, but also looking around the house for art I could use). Furthermore, I’m communicating with the participants to ask them for art.
Feedback from participants and audience members can be found in my sketchbook, in the section headed by ‘Unit 2′.

かしわもちちゃん! This character is the personification of a Japanese sweet called “kashiwamochi” (柏餅). Kashiwamochi is a type of mochi (sweet rice cake) filled with sweet red bean paste and wrapped in an oak leaf. The oak leaf is not edible; it is peeled off before eating. この説明なんかエロいな。
