i read a lot of stories and posts about people's various childhood fears and I can't relate to any of it. and I don't know why. sometimes I detect sociopath traits in my personality that are indistinguishable from autism traits so who knows. i don't believe in the "empathy" model of autism anyway I think it's observably horseshit, and I experience intense, crippling empathy (i think???) for people, objects, and animals so I know I'm not lacking. but man a lot of you were afraid of your own furbies and shit like that and I do not get it at all sorry. if you asked me if I was afraid of my furby when I was a kid I would be like "no it's a doll".

i can think of one irrational fear I had as a kid and it was the very loud, unpleasant sound that phones used to make if you left them off the hook. but that one is sort of rational I guess, since the sound was physically painful and would jumpscare you every time. also I wouldn't freak out about it I would just feel very unpleasant and put the phone back properly

actually that brings me to a question I've had for decades: WHY was "leaving the phone off the hook" such a trope in movies and tv last century when a character wanted to, for example, not be interrupted while at home, or getting a good night's sleep, or having sex? the loud phone-off-the-hook sound starts a couple minutes after you take the receiver off the base. so how was that conducive to sleep or focus? is the trope from a period prior to the off-the-hook sound being implemented by the phone companies???

I think I'm going to have to go with tumblr, and it's not just because we're here. Twitter and Bluesky are nice and my experiences on both are overwhelmingly positive. But tumblr has an atmosphere that encourages originality, sharing your creations and talking about things in depth.

I don't remember where I have read this before, maybe it's in the tags of a post or something but someone once said something about Wei Wuxian fans being blinded by their "protagonist-colored glasses" and the context was them basically complaining that Wei Wuxian is overrated within the fandom and that X/Y/Z deserved better. That moment was just so wild to me honestly 😭 What even are "protagonist-colored glasses"? Were they saying that Wei Wuxian fans are deluding themselves into liking him? Weird.

Idk, people wanting to legitimize their hatred of a character through the text while using anything but the text as evidence to support their weird hatred will never not be corny and weirdo behavior. You hate that people love Wei Wuxian, the protagonist of the book about Wei Wuxian? The protagonist that is charming and funny and smart and strong and loves children and always sticks up for everyone wholeheartedly and is gay? You hate that people love that Wei Wuxian? Then go read a novel where the protagonist is a shithead, idk, I just know that you won’t find it from mxtx.
