The day starts as any other, they wake, they hustle, they share breakfast and attend classes.

Something's different though, something unsettles her, distracts her, and throws everything off balance.

Awareness prickles at her skin like a chaffing clothing label, pestiferous and persistent.

It’s not the addition of something new, it’s the absence of something she’s become reliant on, something that fuels her through each day.

As much as she’d deny it.

As much as she refuses to ask herself why.

Summary: As the Easter weekend crawls to a close, Remus sits in an empty house that had once been full of memories. That well-worn sofa where his mum would read to him; this kitchen table, where he’d watch his father diligently completing the crossword; that bedroom window, where he first learned the true horror of a full moon.

His parents had died within weeks of each other, 1981 barely getting started before the kick in the teeth came. Some awful, drawn-out illness for his mother, who by the end could hardly see through the haze of pain. For his father, not in perfect health himself, the loss of his wife had been all it really took. “We don’t put ‘died of a broken heart’ on the death certificate,” the healer had told him, gently drawing a sheet over Lyall Lupin’s peaceful face. “But sometimes, it seems the likely answer.”

He had wanted to reply, what about his heart? What about his life, left behind like this? But it didn’t do to be selfish. He had arranged the funerals and found burial plots side by side, in the graveyard of the church where his mum used to love raising her voice to the rafters in song.

So I played this game today in Uni's fest, where we were asked to share a thing/incidence from the past two years of our lives that amazed us, or something that we found beautiful.

I couldn't really answer properly back there because there are just so many things that have inspired me. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that the Jily fandom (or any fandom in general) is something that is so uniquely beautiful.

Majority of the people here don't know how the other person looks, majority of us are from different nations, majority of us speak different languages, we are all different ages, we all have different jobs, hell we all belong to different time zones!

But there's something like a thread that has tied us all together. It's something as simple as love for two people, that too fictional characters!

It's like, a fiction has given us something real. Divided my nations (perhaps) but united by a fandom!

And if that's not beautiful, I don't know what is.

The fuse has been lit. Lily can almost hear the crackling hiss of it, feel the building burn of it in the air as Sirius takes the reins of the conversation, as drinks are bought and poured down newly dry throats, and eventually as last orders are called and the four of them are standing outside and saying farewell with kisses on cheeks. Sam and Sirius apparate away. Lily and James do not.

They stand, eyes fixed firmly on each other, ready to ignite.

‘Not forever, you said?’ James asks, his voice deep and quiet in a way that’s never been hers to hear before now.
