It was tiresome to watch his every step, but well worth the caution. He came up behind Vash and reached out to place a hand on his shoulder. Vash let out an uncharacteristic shout and grabbed his cloak but didn't do anything else before relaxing.

"You shouldn't be out here," Vash said.

João stepped in closer, so much closer than he should, and pressed his cheek to Vash's hair.

"I was missing you."

Vash stiffened again and João chuckled. He didn't have to look to know Vash was blushing. Gently he guided Vash to look at him.

"Your Highness, this isn't-"

"It's just the two of us," João whispered.
