the wrath of gareth
for @corrodedcoffinfest popup event prompt 'wrath'
rated m | 1313 words | cw: temporary character death, grief/mourning, canon-typical violence | tags: everybody lives (by the end anyway), eddie comes back wrong (or right if you're into that kinda thing), gareth is maybe the best friend ever
⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫
When Eddie dies, Gareth doesn't react with tears the way everyone expects. He sees Dustin crying his way through an explanation and he sees Jeff and Frankie both welling up. Even Mike is trying to hide the fact that his eyes are swollen and red-rimmed.
Gareth just looks between them all and wonders why he isn't feeling what they're all feeling.
Eddie is-- was-- his brother, his best friend, someone he would die for.
He just feels...nothing.
He goes home and tries to work through emotions, but he still just feels empty. There's nothing there for him to unpack. He doesn't feel loss the way everyone else so clearly does.
Maybe he's just broken. He remembers crying when his grandpa died a few years ago, but maybe that was because it was family? He doesn't know and he falls asleep before he can try to figure it out.
When he wakes up, he's angry and he doesn't know why at first. He thinks it's because his mom is using the vacuum on a Saturday morning until he remembers Eddie's fucking dead.
He still doesn't cry, but now he has an emotion to tie himself down with, to hold onto when he heads to Dustin's house for answers.
Dustin shouldn't have been the first to know. Why was he the first to know? How was he the first to know?
"He's not dead," Gareth says instead of hello when Dustin answers his door, still looking exhausted, red eyes swollen nearly shut.
"He is." It's raspy and hollow, like all of Dustin's emotions have finally gone.
"He can't be."
Gareth stays angry as he demands the exact story again, and again, and again, until Dustin finally tells him he can't go through it anymore. Dustin was there, but why? How? How did he live and Eddie didn't? Nothing makes sense and it's not fair.
As the days pass, anger sits heavy in Gareth's chest. He doesn't even try to play his drums even though his mom insists it might help. Eddie's uncle hugs him at the small service they hold for him, something secret because half the town still thinks he was a murderer. They don't even have a body to bury, but Wayne insisted all his friends come by his new trailer for some lunch and to listen to the music he liked.
It's a nice sentiment and everyone is there to support Wayne, who is barely hiding his pain.
That night is the first night Gareth has a nightmare.
He chalks it up to the anger and sadness of the day before, and goes about his business. He meets up with Frankie to talk about Hellfire's future. He doesn't even want to continue, but he knows Eddie would be pissed if they didn't.
Then he has another nightmare. Eddie with black eyes, claws, ripping and tearing the ground, fighting to reach someone.
He tries to chalk it up to his discussions of DnD the day before, but it's hard to explain how real it felt.
They try to have band practice and it doesn't work. They just aren't Corroded Coffin without him.
He has another nightmare.
He wakes up in a cold sweat. He's not angry anymore. He's determined.
It's only two in the morning, but he's banging on Dustin's door. Dustin's mom is working nights at the hospital so Dustin answers in flannel pajamas, looking just as tired as Gareth feels.
"He isn't dead."
Dustin blinks at him. "Have you been having the nightmares too?"
"He's not Eddie, but he's not dead."
Dustin pulls him inside, slams the door closed, and rushes out of sight. He's back before Gareth can even consider following him holding a radio and a walkie.
"The hell are you doing?" Gareth asks. Is he still asleep? Maybe he's sleepwalking and dreaming.
"Code red," Dustin says into the walkie.
Gareth expects silence, and he thinks he should call his mom because now he's finally lost it.
But then there's noise, Lucas and Mike come through the line, a girl's voice he doesn't recognize, Steve Harrington for some reason? What is happening?
"We have to get down there."
Down where? Gareth slaps his own face to make sure he's awake.
Dustin looks at him like he's grown two heads. "Dude, what the hell?"
"I know we all joked Eddie was going to hell, but I don't think they have visiting hours down there?" Gareth feels like he's losing it. This is an obvious fact, right?
"It's not hell, dude." Dustin turns back to the walkie as Steve says something about picking everyone up and meeting at some cabin. "Did you drive here?"
Gareth points to himself. "Me?"
"No, the other guy in my living room at two in the morning."
"Dude, your attitude." Gareth sighs. "Yeah, I drove here."
"He's gonna drive me," Dustin says into the walkie. "See you all in 20."
"Who are we seeing? Why are we going to Steve Harrington's house? What's happening?"
"I can explain when we get there."
And he does.
They arrive before Steve gets back with everyone, but Dustin has a key to his house apparently, so he lets them in. He knew Steve used to babysit Dustin, but he didn't think they kept in contact still.
Dustin makes him sit down-- never a good sign-- and starts to talk a million miles an hour about another universe, monsters, impossible things like mind powers and government secrets. He's pretty sure he isn't supposed to know any of this, but he's not gonna say a damn thing to anyone. No one would believe him anyway. He's not sure he even believes Dustin.
"So...what? Eddie might be alive in this other Downside place?"
"He wasn't when we escaped, but-"
"But he could be?"
Dustin looks nervous as he nods. "It wouldn't be the weirdest thing to happen."
"Clearly."
He sits quietly while everyone else arrives and starts devising a plan. He doesn't really involve himself in anything until the end, when Harrington asks if he's coming with them or staying behind.
He's too angry to stay behind. He wants to kill this Vecna guy himself.
It's worse than he thought when he gets down there. Up there? There.
Everyone seems to silently agree, just from the look of sheer panic on all their faces. For people who have dealt with this multiple times, you'd think they could hold it together better. Maybe they're just worried they're wrong.
Steve leads them to what looks like Eddie's trailer before it got destroyed and torn down. It's covered in vines and black mold and it occurs to Gareth they probably shouldn't go inside.
They go inside.
It's musty and decaying, just like everything else down here. Gareth hears Will and Mike arguing about something behind him, while Dustin is telling everyone to shut up.
He looks where Dustin's looking.
Eddie isn't dead. He definitely isn't Eddie.
Vecna is standing behind him, using him as a semi-human shield. Gareth can't look away from the sharp teeth and claws, the dark eyes, the fucking wings. He has fucking wings!
And Vecna is ugly, part of the rot surrounding them. Gareth steps forward, ready to help Steve and Robin and Nancy and the other semi-adults that took the lead on this.
He's only 16, but he misses Eddie. He's angry. That's enough for him to be useful.
He's holding a sword, something Dustin got from a ren faire last fall. It's surprisingly hefty, durable, strong.
He just has to be strong enough to use it.
He lets every last bit of the wrath he feels surge through him as Steve yells the code word they agreed on. Eddie is frozen in place, but they work around him. Gareth swings his sword and beheads Vecna. Like it's nothing at all.
It's enough.
Vecna dies. Eddie lives.
Gareth isn't angry anymore.

unfortunately I have been seized by the uncontrollable urges aka here is my SSO Quality of Life* Wishlist!
*as in small things that would/could impact daily play, rather than massive projects or overhauls
Cap frame rate to 60fps and enable players to cap their games lower. There is no reason why SSO should be trying to hit 100+ fps, the graphics nor the engine demand that sort of quality. SSO isn't a competitive or combat game, even the 'PVP' element it does are based on time, not player interaction. Players can not impact each other's gameplay at all (aka no collisions, physics, etc.) Not to mention it'd help my computer calm down if it wasn't trying to hit infinity frames per second.
Increase the shilling rewards in low density and hard to reach quest/race areas, like Mistfall and South Hoof. If the shillings I earn barely cover the fast transport and riding there takes a few minutes I'm gonna not go there. Increasing the rewards would increase the activity in those areas. You don't need new content (although South Hoof, Mistfall, and Dino champs would be great), but if the races and dailies there each paid out 100+ shillings and 250 or more horse XP they'd be more enticing to visit.
Change the trailer list into a trailer map. If it's a map pop up with all the trailer locations you'd click where you want to go. Seems easier.
Run two champs at the same time. I've wanted this back ever since they stopped doing that, and I miss it. One can always be running in the free to play area, and one can always be running in the Star Rider area.
Fix the UI at the top center of the screen, it's messy having timers and pop up alerts in the same spot. I can't read them if they're literally on top of each other.
Transparency/opacity settings for windows/UI elements. Why is the chat box transparent? Why is the quest log transparent? Why can't I make those opaque so I can read those easier without the game behind the windows occasionally making that text difficult to read?
Make the champ rank window accessible everywhere. As far as I can tell it's only visible if you click on a schedule board at a champ area or when you finish a champ. Why isn't that something you can look at wherever, so you can check your progress? It can be part of the High Scores pop up, like the champ schedule, since it's already part of the champ schedule boards at all the champ grounds.
A way to 'wishlist' items in shops. With everything being like 9000-max shillings you can only buy one item at a time, which is annoying if you figure out an outfit or a bunch of items you want to buy, but you have to remember what they are (or even what shops they are in).
If you go over your shilling limit the excess goes to your inbox OR you get the excess shillings, but you have to spend them before you log off or you'll lose the excess. So you get a popup telling you that you hit max shillings and if you try to log off you get another pop up warning you that you'll lose those shillings if you don't spend them, are you sure you want to log off and lose X shillings?

OK TRAILER TIME
youtube
SO PRETTY!! now, because everything in this is cinematic (and it's only a teaser), i would take basically this entire thing with a grain of salt for how accurate it will be to actual environments and gameplay. the cinematic trailers/teasers for the first two games are full of things that didn't make it in. still looks VERY GOOD and im so excited!!!!!!
onto a few specific things, this specific area ^^ shows up in a steam screenshot (which i will get to later), and considering the high amount of light and coral, this is potentially this game's version of the safe shallows! that pink fish that swims by is also the youtube channel's current pfp, and as such is probably replacing the peeper, which was the old 'mascot' fish. this character is also using alterra tech, which i think is very interesting! are we still working for alterra, or are they just such a mega corporation that they make basically all water/space gear? the diving suit looks a bit like the stillsuit with its colors! the design itself reminds me of the cold suit,,, :o
now, the thing about this scene is that it goes by pretty quick, and is supposed to draw attention to the water vortex (and won't it be fun if THAT is an actual mechanic!!! god i would be so so scared), but upon a few pauses and look arounds... there's a building! that is so clearly some old ruins!! it doesn't look anything like the usual ruins/bases we've seen before, so i would guess that these are NOT built by the architects, and instead a new alien race. the assumption is that this planet is also very much abandoned,,, which begs the question, why? not the kharra again, surely? or is it just these surface-level ruins that have been left? and if they went deeper, why? this appears to be the only screenshot/sequence that shows any of these ruins. how many more are there?? I DEMAND ANSWERS!!
also, entirely possible im wrong, but this new character bears some resemblance to ryley, imo. the earlier scenes of him doesn't match too closely, and their hair is entirely different, but this shot specially depicts a very similar face structure, eyebrows, lips, and nose! now, this could be (and probably is) a new guy that just kinda looks like him, but if it IS ryley,,,,, what's he doin here? is he working with alterra still? is he just off exploring various ocean planets? even if this isnt him, i want to know these things. wheres my guy :(
another thing pointing at this being ryley is that this game is intended to be a direct sequel (as opposed to bz being a spin off), and if its in an entirely different environment, then it stands to reason there's a chance theres returning characters. otherwise,, this game would just also be a spin-off!
(also, would absolutely love if that oxygen warning is an actual popup ingame!)
and here's the second character that pops up! the steam screenshots also only show two people in co-op so far, and i do wonder if these are two of the playable characters and not just random models/characters used for the teaser (similar to how bart is a trailer for sub1 despite not being playable, and fred in bz's trailer). this person doesn't seem to be anyone from either game (she looks a tinyyy bit like lillian, but not enough that i can say it could be her), and she's in a new vehicle! everything still looks very atlerra, though, and the two characters seem to know each other, so once again i wonder if this is a lore reason, if these ARE alterra workers, or if this is just to fit in with the aesthetic of the other games.
BIG FISH!!!!! BIG FISH!!!!!!! this thing looks VERY new and introduced in the teaser in a similar fashion that the sea emperor was shown in the first sub1 trailer, so im wondering if this might be THE Big Fish (or simply just one that they've finished the design for). with brightness turned way up, it appears to have a nose and mouth on level with the two humans, much below the light on its head. a similar hunting tactic to anglerfish, maybe? and so many tentacles!! and pincers! BIG FISH!!!!
no exact date for early access, which makes me think we won't get it until spring at the earliest. however, the first two games came out in winter (december for sub1, january for bz), so its possible it will keep with that trend and be out before march. don't take my word for that, though, this is purely speculation.
with this teaser (or potentially before, i was not actively checking this LOL), there's also now a steam page up with additional ingame screenshots and description of the game with a lot of new information!! because tumblr has a screenshot limit, im going to rb this post later with all of the steampage info.
but there is a LOT of new stuff we've learned now!!! pair all of this with this article showing screenshots the devs have dropped in sub1 time capsules (which i will also talk about in the rb), and oughhhh it is a GOOD DAY to be a subnautica fan!!!!!! are we all ready to get dragged back into this fandom?? i hope ur all ready. we're gonna get water vortexed. help.
#SORRY IM LATE AGAINNN#BUT FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT HEARD THE NEWS AND/OR WANTS TO HEAR MY TAKES. HI HELLO!!#sub 3 news#sorry im not calling it sub 2 unless i have to i hate it when game series do that. this is the THIRD ONE!!#undescribed

Since Echoes of Wisdom is a top-down Zelda game, I’m not expecting the game’s story to be super complex or involved, but I’ll admit I am curious about certain characters & implied background events.
In particular, I’m curious about who these three unique NPCs from the Gerudo Desert region are:
The woman with the golden trident is most likely the current Chief, given that I’ve seen screenshots of her standing up from a throne holding the trident aloft are circulating around. But who are those other two people?
I suspect the woman in white might be the chief’s sister, since her hair resembles the chief’s hair and the gemstones she’s wearing are the same color as the Chief’s. Also, Nintendo would not have the gonads to put an official confirmed lesbian couple in their kid-friendly game no matter how G-rated “This lady’s the queen and her wife is also the queen” is as a concept. However, the woman in white also seems to be a person of importance to the Gerudo given that the guards are answering to her. There was mention of an “Ancestral Cave” elsewhere in the trailer. Could she maybe be a high priestess or keeper of some sort of sacred site of worship or burial who acts as a spiritual leader to the community?
As for the figure in blue with the gloves and the hat—they’re definitely also Gerudo, but they’re dressed in a very unusual way that sets them apart. My first guess was that this was an older woman, maybe the chief’s mother, who’s acting as an advisor given that they were standing next to the throne in the aforementioned screenshot. However, they don’t look that old, given that we’ve seen old people with wrinkles in Zelda’s court in the form of Imoa and her brother, so I have another guess.
This person might actually be a boy, the current Gerudo prince, who’s either too young to take an active part in political life, or is maybe the younger brother or spouse of the chief who’s relegated to acting in a more supportive role because of his age and gender. Their style of dress is much more formal and masculine, being somewhere between the draped turban and robes you’d expect Indian royalty to wear and the iconic blue and gold khepresh crown that some Egyptian pharaohs wore.
It’d be really interesting to get some insight into Gerudo politics, particularly if a prince who isn’t Ganondorf is involved! Also, partly because it’d give us some insight into what “went wrong” with this particular version of Ganon if we have a baseline about what the role of prince in Gerudo culture is normally supposed to be like.
Speaking of Ganon, assuming he himself isn’t just an “echo” sent by some greater force, it looks like he himself might’ve been actively looking into whatever force Tri was connected to based on how the tablet behind Zelda in the room where she was being imprisoned resembled the waypoints Tri can use to warp you around.
Given that the Rifts seem to be “stealing” land tiles and making phantom echoes of monsters, and that the rift opening ability is tied to Ganon’s own “wand” that he uses to cast spells, could he have his own little helper buddy who’s given him the power to play Sim City in his own little pocket dimension? Is Ganon’s motive like the angry guy from the popup window in Sim City 2000, where he’s picking up his toys and starting a new Hyrule in the Dark World because Zelda’s dad cut back on transit funding for that year’s budget?
Seriously, though, it’d be really cool if Ganon functioned as a “dark mirror” to Zelda during what will presumably be his actual final boss fight. (Come on, do you really think he’d be fine with playing second fiddle to a new antagonist if he had even the tiniest glimmer of his original personality left instead of being a soulless shell like in ALBW? He’s absolutely gonna be the final boss.)

4/6/24 Demo Update
Hey guys, got that demo update I promised. It's up on itch.io right now and will be updated on Steam tomorrow.
Some major changes to note:
Bellatrix's sprite has been changed to better reflect their voice actor's appearance, per the VA's request.
The stat screen can no longer be viewed while clicking through and reading. I saw a lot of confusion in testing over how to close it during choices, so I've added a 'close' button to head that off.
All skin tones have been added and reflected in the CGs.
Please report any bugs to the Celestial Crowns discord.
Here is the full changelog:
Added additional voice "barks" for Lune, Terra, Sahi, Celeste, and Aalam
added 15 new SFX
added existing SFX in places where it made sense to
added additional art assets to ballroom scene
added camera animations throughout first 3 chapters
created chapter cards for first 3 chapters
implemented new skin tones
added voice lines where needed
fixed bug where camera was not working properly when skipping
updated textbox
updated popup for increased stats
updated save/load screen bg
updated preferences screen bg
added additional text effects in some places
added new theme song
added new sad song
added new romance song
changed music on character select screen
adjusted button size for title buttons to ensure the hitbox was working properly
adjusted text size of save file names so they fit under the screenshots
adjusted Terra's history screen picture to be generic to accommodate all skin tones
changed some text for clarity (no trade at all if marriage goes through, the only benefit is they must protect each other when wars happen)
changed main menu
changed character customization music
There is also a new trailer. Give it a watch, it has some new CG teasers ^^ Any feedback/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated, video editing isn't my strong suit.
New BGs
Our BG artist is on fire! We now have a first look at the inside of Andromeda castle.
I still haven't had time to sit down and start writing the third draft in earnest as some life stuff tripped me up, but with any luck by next week I will be ready for that. Hope you enjoy this update in the meantime ^^

Worth The Feeling
Content Warning: 18+ This series contains explicit smut, intimidation, and an age gap relationship. Minors, do not interact.
Chapter 20
The sun above me is prying into my eyes, knocking on my lids like an unwanted guest. Except it's much colder than I remember it being, it even has a cooler tone. Almost artificial. I let more of it in, cracking my eyes open to find that I am looking at a ceiling full of LED panels.
It takes a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the brightness. I realize that I'm facing the end of the rectangular room, and I can see a table with first aid material on the far side. I glance down slowly, realizing that I'm on a cot with a white sheet draped over me. On my left, a wrinkled hand adorned with multi-colored rings squeezes mine, and I follow it to find Barb smiling at me. A rare sight honestly.
"How are you feeling, doll?" She pats my hand now.
"Where am I?" I croak. I hear a creak at the other end of the room, and a woman with a stethoscope around her neck walks up to me.
"You're in the set clinic, Ava." Barb answers as the other woman approaches.
"Hi, Ava, are you doing okay? My name is Amy, I'm a nurse. You had a pretty bad fainting spell." The woman light touches my wrist, turning it over and checking my pulse.
"Hi...I'm fine I think. I'm really confused though."
"That's normal. I believe you were suffering from heat exhaustion. Have you fainted before?"
"Um, only like once when I was a kid. What happened?"
"You fainted on the beach," Barb responds. "They called for the medic and carried you back to home base. This is the popup clinic on set."
"Have you felt nauseous or dizzy at all today, Ava?" Amy asks, putting the back of her hand to my forehead.
I had, of course. But I just attributed it to the shit show that was produced by Blake Henley.
Oh my god. The shit show.
I shoot up, propping myself on my elbows. "Where is Pe–" I cut myself off, feeling another bout of dizziness.
"Shh, you'll want to take it slow for a bit." Amy gently pushes my shoulders so that I'm lying back once again.
"Have you felt nauseous or dizzy today?" She repeats her question.
"Yes. Both."
"Hmm. Alright. I'm going to get you some electrolytes. I'll be right back."
Amy leaves, and I turn my attention to Barb.
"They made you stay with me, huh?"
Barb scoffs. "I'm happy to stay with you, kid." A beat passes. "But yes, they asked me to come stay with you until you woke up."
"And how long ago was that? How long was I out?"
"I'm not sure, I wasn't on the beach when it happened. But we've been in here at least twenty minutes. Amy told everyone you needed to cool off, said you probably didn't need to go to the hospital."
"The hospital? That was an option? Geez." I stare at the ceiling, thinking of how to phrase my next question.
"Barb...There was a lot going on when this happened. Remember when I spoke with you in your trailer a few weeks ago, and you told me to live a little? Well, I've been living...a lot." I watch her out of the corner of my eye, and she nods slowly in understanding.
"And when I fainted, do you know what happened after? I-I was in the middle of a tense conversation."
"I heard a bunch of different things. I'm not sure how true they are. Mostly about Javi."
"What about Javi" My heartbeat quickens but I will myself to focus on my breathing and calm it down. The faster I do that, the sooner I can get out of here.
"Well, he went berserk. He stopped you from falling to the ground and he was shouting at the crew members to get a medic. No one had ever heard him use that sort of...tone. He carried you all the way up the beach. Met the medic on the way back to basecamp." Her mouth pauses halfway open, but then she closes it.
"What is it? What else is there?" I ask quietly.
"They need you to relax so you can go home safely."
"Barb, just tell me."
"It raised a lot of eyebrows, doll. Most people think that he was just concerned. But there was some chatter on my way over about Blake Henley. He was all fussy. He said that you had 'perfect timing' or something. He says you were being confronted about entertaining the actors. Javi's reaction to the issue made a couple people suspicious."
I feel a new wave of nausea as Amy reenters the medic trailer. She brought over a bottle of water and pedialyte, along with a few cookies from crafty.
"I need you to finish all of this before I can let you go. If you're able to keep it down for a while, then I'll check your vitals again and you'll be all set."
"Can someone radio to Dwayne and tell him I'll be back in like, thirty minutes then?" I look between the two.
"Ava, you're going back to your hotel when you finish up. I already told your boss the situation."
"But I'm flying out later tonight."
Amy looks confused, maybe about how those two things are related at all. "Great, then you can recuperate at home. Be sure to drink plenty of water on the plane." She gives me a curt smile, heading back out of the trailer.
As soon as she is out, I move to stand up. Barb clicks her tongue, pushing me back down.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"I need to talk to Dwayne," Tears spring to my eyes as the reality of the situation keeps boiling through my bones. The last thing he heard was that I was "entertaining" actors, and now I'm expected just to fly home like nothing happened? Even in regular circumstances, I would be clambering to get back out on set and finish my day. But now? It feels as though my job depends on it. And it very well might depend on it.
"Ava," Barb's tone stalls me in my tracks, halfway off the cot. "Listen to me. They're finishing up the scene. You returning would be the second interruption that day. They would be obligated to check on you. And from what I'm hearing, it seems like Dwayne will want to speak with you regardless." She uncaps the water bottle and thrusts it into my hand. The look on her face is not a suggestion, but a demand. So I drink as she continues. "The best thing you can do for yourself...and for Javi, is to go home. Take a breath. Speak with Dwayne when we get back to L.A."
"But," I take a deep breath after guzzling down half the water bottle, "I can't just sit with it. It makes both of us look bad. The way Blake said it made it look even worse. And Dwayne is so close to promoting me, I–" I shake my head rapidly, looking at Barb for answers she doesn't have.
"Breathe, doll," She gently pats my hand again, "Remember what I said before. No matter what happens, I'm glad you lived a little. Don't let today get in the way of that."
I nod along despite my racing heartbeat. I want to tell Barb she's right, but if this does cost me my job...what then?
- - -
When Amy finally let me go, I had 23 missed texts from Lana. Mostly apologies because her team was back in Milan instead of Lake Como where I was filming. Her schedule had her filming scenes of Emma when her character had been kidnapped and taken to an abandoned office building. I'd been so preoccupied with my real life that I forgot there were other pieces of the film that didn't involve Javi. As nice as it was for Lana to reach out, it made my heart sink knowing that the information had already gotten back to her. She assured me that Barb texted her first, but I can't be certain she wasn't just trying to placate me.
As soon as I get back to the hotel room, I pack up my things to keep busy. I text Lana and ask if she wants me to get her things together too, and she agrees, probably sensing my need to stress-clean but lacking cleaning supplies. After both our bags are packed, I triple-check my airline ticket and count the minutes until Lana gets back. I'm debating if I should text Dwayne first before I get home and ask for a meeting with him to explain. That seems like the most responsible thing to do. But I've written and deleted a potential message to him about ten times, and nothing seems right.
Hey! Sorry it seemed like I was hooking up with multiple actors and never disclosing it. Though that isn't true, it is true that Javi and I have been hooking up, and we didn't disclose it. But it also just happened and I'm not sure what it is yet. By the way, are we still good for that promotion? How am I actually supposed to phrase this?
I just started drafting lucky number eleven when Lana comes home. She gives me a big hug and grills me on making sure I have kept drinking water since I got back to the hotel. After reassuring her several times and walking her through my version of the story, I decide I need her advice on Dwayne.
"I don't know Ave...He's probably still working with Javi and Blake unless they've wrapped for today. I would wait until we get home."
"Do you think that I'll lose my job? Or that Blake will leak it to the papers and make Javi look like he took advantage of me?" Tears spring to my eyes for the second time today.
Lana's face constricts in contemplation, and she hesitates. "I think your job right now is to relax. You fainted today, and not to bring up the worst part but, we're going to have to get on a plane soon. Are you feeling okay about that?"
"I haven't even thought about it." I stare down at the patterned carpet for a few minutes.
"He hasn't texted me," I whisper.
"Well...like I said, he might still be shooting with Blake. And you know Lloyd. He's probably making them do five more takes than necessary."
I don't really believe her, but I nod anyway.
"What do you say we get our own taxi to the airport? That way we can leave early, get some snacks, hang out by the gate and leave this all behind us."
I nod again, afraid that if I say anything else then my tears will come on full-force.
We packed up the rest of our things, and I couldn't help but look back at our view one last time. I was always sentimental leaving hotels, but that window in particular held a very specific memory now. I try not to think of my bathrobe-clad leg wrapped around Javi's torso as I close the door behind me.
Typically my fear of flying will set in as soon as I arrive at the airport, but this time, it doesn't. I enjoy as much of the ride there as I can, taking in the final sights of Milan. I wish I had remembered to do the same when I left Lake Como earlier, but for over an hour I just stared at my hands, trying to think of what to text Dwayne. And though I had hated to admit it to Lana, I was also wondering why Javi hadn't checked in.
Lana and I bought a few magazines and an array of snacks to pick at while we sit at our gate. I flip through several pages, pausing to admire some red carpet looks. I know now from being in the business a few years how repetitive those events become for so many people, but I never tire of seeing the photos. Particularly, the gowns. I can't imagine that putting on a dress like that ever grows old. I keep flipping through, and freeze when I see a small shot of Javi from another red carpet premiere. The snippet attached to the photo details how he will be traveling to Italy soon to shoot for Lloyd Meyer's new untitled film. I feel a lump form in my throat.
"Hey, I didn't ask you how it went shooting with Emma today." I put down my magazine, hoping that Lana's day will distract me.
"I mean, super uneventful in comparison. But it was fine. Alice did a good job directing from what I could see. She's a lot more calm with her notes than Lloyd is."
"I'm not surprised."
"I'm jealous you got to spend the last day on the lake though. The building might as well have been back in L.A."
"I wish you were on the beach, too. Then we could've fainted together."
Lana chuckles, and I bend down to grab my water bottle. As I take a swig, I notice most of production has been filing in. A few other PAs are just two rows away, and when I make eye contact with them, they whisper to each other. My suspicion grows when I see Danny, one of the other sound members staring my way as well. He looks away as soon as I catch his eye.
"Lana," I whisper, "Are people staring at me?"
Lana, rather conspicuously, whips her head up to survey the gate.
"Um, they're probably just wondering if you're okay."
"And that's why they're just staring instead of asking if I'm okay?" I ask sarcastically.
"Yeah, well people are weird and antisocial like that." Not Lana's best effort. My heart hammers faster in my chest. Even if my job is safe, and that's still an if, would I be safe from the court of public opinion? There is a small flicker of hope in the back of my mind that everyone else is too preoccupied with their own journey home to put too much thought into today's episode. But some of their expressions seem icy, or at least a bit suspicious. I start to tab random pages of my magazine to look busy, needing some reason to look away.
The loud speaker announces that boarding is starting for our plane. Lana packs up the remainder of her snacks before placing her hand on my shoulder. "Is going home usually easier than the ride there? Fear-wise?"
"Yeah, I think so." I give her a halfhearted smile.
"Good. Let me know if you need anything on the plane, okay?" Lana's returning smile seems equally as halfhearted.
I wasn't lying. Usually the ride home was a bit easier. I think it was partial relief because I knew now that I had survived half of the trip, and I at least knew where I was heading. It was familiar.
But now, for the first time, the plane ride wasn't what worried me. I was far more fearful of what awaited me when I landed.

Nana's House Installation, London College of Fashion - Community Co-Curator
Nana's House is an interactive living room installation, as part of Designed for Life which coincided with the opening of the new campus in Stratford, East London, UK.
The living room reflects and represents a broad heterogeneity of lives and experiences in East London told through a fictional family gathered on a Sunday afternoon at Nana's house, using artefacts and QR-linked soundscapes to represent each family member.
"Nana's one of a kind, and so is her house. It's Sunday afternoon, and her Leytonstone Victorian terrace is at capacity. Mum, dad, uncle and Grandad congregate around the jollof, but I'm more interested in the sweet, spiced tea and homemade samosas that have made a regular appearance here since we took in a lodger - an Indian-Muslim exchange student from Hyderabad.
My grandparents have lived here long before I was born. The walls tell the tale of an exuberant young textile worker arriving in London in 1960, fresh from Ondo State, Nigeria, with an infatuation with the latest in fashion and design. Over the years my mum has tried to add some modern toches; working in finance, she began to share her wealth in the late 80s with a new TV and sofa - much to the apathy of Grandad, who only believes in fixing what is broken.
Grandad was a print worker, a determined trade unionist whose career ended at age 48 with a labour dispute on Wapping High Street in 1987. A "real East Londoner born within earshot of the Bow Bells", he fought the resurgence of fascism around Ridley Road Market with the 62 Group and got bruised, whilst mourning the death of his and nana's first newborn, in battles against Oswold Mosely.
He tells stories of how he fell in love with Nana in 1961 to a soundtrack of Marvin Gaye. They triumphed against melancholy and fell deeper in love. In 1966, they celebrated the World Cup win for England together, of which West Ham players were an integral factor!
Having spent the summer away from my parents, I am inspired by the community and political strength of my grandparents. I collide with my parents' capitalist complicity - working in government and global trade; they mock my uncle who gave himself earnestly and entirely to the rave scene of Lea Valley." Soundbites of the family members: • A phone call to the lodger - shopping in Ilford as a Pakistani woman • Grandson - Teenage Frustrations • Grandad - The History Of An East London Print Worker • Nana - A Nigerian Matriarch • Uncle - Cultural History Of The East London Rave Scene • Mum - Affluence, Influence & Merit • Lodger - Far From Home • Bonus
Nana's House was created by lead curator Dr Leila Nassereldein and co-curated by community members Pallavi Chamarty, Omolara Obanishola, Dave Sohanpal and Anh Tran. Supported by Dr Michael McMillan
Artist's works featured around the living room: • Poppy Frean • Sahira Khan • Mercedes Halliday • Shama Kun • Brahim Bendaoud • Lydia Wood • Asim Khairdean • Toyin Gbomedo • John Curtis Films on the TV: • Looking for You - Anna Nguyen & Kristine Landon Smith • Sonia's Whitechapel - Hend Draz, Maya Leonavicius, Fangjiao Liu, Jake London, Angela Josephine Smith & Claire Wasson with special thanks to Sonia Sylvester • Radical Nostalgias - Mercedes Halliday • To Style a Life for Oneself (trailer) - Omolara Obanishola • Dress For Our Time: In conversation with Helen Storey and Michael Saunby - Helen Storey • Drawing Reality - TIGERs • Tarek’s Story - David Betteridge • Reflections from Za’atar - Helen Storey Special thanks to Sahira, Lord Tusk, Theresa, Tony Sullivan, Lee McKarkiel, Furniture Reuse, The Dovetail, Popup Garden Bookshop and Niquelle LaTouche Oct 2023 - Jan 2024

Fun side effect of the centralization of the internet is websites don't host their own media, so more than once I've been on a site for a new game or movie or whatever and they'll embed a youtube video, so the game trailer is playing and the recommended video popups are all titled like "(Title) Review: BORING" "(Title) Is NOT worth $60!!"

Sims 4: B 4 Real
I made a Sims 4: 4 Rent Expansion Pack What-I-Wish-It-Was Wishlist because even though the bar is in hell as far as the Sims 4 Team is involved, it's fun to imagine what the pack could've been, what features could've been added blah-blah-blah.
I've seen the Release Trailer, the "Gameplay" Trailer, the "Livestream", and absorbed as much EA Creator Network content as I can handle... and it's meh-to-yikes (MWS 2). So....
RENTING
Not mad at what they did. This is exactly how I, in my dumb-dumb non-coder brain, figured that they could've made working apartments HOWEVER they could've added a better screening process, moreso accepting tenants to apply for the apartment rather than outright accepting them.
The application process could've given the player the ability to accept tenants sight unseen OR given them the ability to screen traits, wealth, or if they have a job with the possibility of getting sued for housing discrimination.
On the other end, if you're playing generationally you can apply for an apartment, pay the application fee, look around, meet the landlord, and/or get rejected because it's your first apartment and your Sim Score is non existent.
All the gameplay I've seen so far, I actually like as far as the water heater and fuse box, mold, and infestation, and all the events. I also like that you can experience all those issues in a regular residential. (RIP Plumbros you've been incorporated?)
I do wish they would've gone back and updated Elevators and allowed a High-End Apartment experience such as Building Maids, Doormen, Receptionist, a basement Irwin, etc.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL LOTS
This would've actually shocked me and 100% made the pack worth it, if they'd given us both the ability to make apartments and make a bar beneath me.
The Multifunctional lot would've worked the exact same way and allowed for storefront RENTALS (but I imagine this would make GTW useless to those who only use the Retail system)
WORLD
9 lots!? BFFR.
:Conspiracy Theory Side Rant: I think they had planned for water lots. The bottom of that map is wayyyy too empty both in world and in world view. I think they hit a snag in coding and instead of delaying to figure it out they scrapped water lots and pushed out this pack and that's why we also can't build on the waterfront lot in Sulani. Nothing can sway me. :End:
It's a pretty... empty world. I wish there was less set dressing and more lots. The cave isn't nearly as cool as the one in Horse Ranch and I could do without it. It really just punched home all the rabbitholes (like seriously Sims 4: For Rabbitholes) and I don't even dislike rabbitholes. I wanted more rabbitholes in Growing Together and less in this pack.
CULTURE
I'm not SEA but I love broad representation, so I love the new dances, love the squat toilet, the food, the night market, the fish market. I just wish there was more! To be exact 10 more, but I'll detail 3.
MY NUMBER ONE WISH - the Animal Sanctuary - imagine the same shell but when you click on it you have the options for a guided Tiger Tour (the current system more or less, popups and all) and an Elephant Walk where it takes you to a TIMED HIDDEN LOT EVENT (also what happened to hidden lots) with elephants that will walk around with the possibility of being drenched in mud, feed them a banana, wave, etc (nothing too crazy as even in a video game I want to remain ethical... to animals) Also would've been a great opportunity for EA to partner with an ethical animal sanctuary and spread awareness. One animal I would've been content. Two. Three. EA would've blown my mind. Imagine the First Person POV in-game and those Safari Cars driving in the BG.
MY NUMBER TWO WISH - Surfing (child+ in water, toddler+ training)- I'm still awed by how we didn't get surfing with Island Living and now with this golden second opportunity they didn't give it to us once again! It would work like this: an invisible marker (in live mode) that we place in Build/Buy and when we click on the water we'd get the option to practice surfing. Waves won't simulate without the marker, they'd go through the surfing animations depending on skill level, and the marker could even designate where the sim would pop up after they wash out. This could be its own fleshed out thing with surf training in water and on land, playable lifeguard, surf competitions/career, injuries, but I would've taken just surfing.
MY NUMBER THREE WISH - Muay Thai - as an activity (child+) AND apart of a Fighter career. I'll never expect an active Fighter career from EA as that's too many animation cycle possibilities for them for some reason but could've been a great opportunity to give us Boxing 2.0 and become full-time World Class Fighter.
Quick 4-10
4. Boats! Group boats! Tour boats (even as a rabbithole, might as well go all in if you're going to give them to us)
5. River rafting (just more water activities would've been great)
6. Sunken ship hidden lot (deep diving to a hidden lot) / more snorkeling spots (though I understand snorkeling is a draw in for IL)
7. Hiking (I know we've gotten hiking essentially in the last two EPs but this would've been a great EP for it and/or give us a climbing mountain experience like in SE... but green)
8. Harvestables - tea, spices, fruit.
9. A TukTuk Tour (cute to say and if we only got one rabbithole this would've been fun for my tourist sims)
10. Botanical Garden. At the bottom b/c even EA didn't care enough about this. Seriously, no new flowers?
Secret 11. Night Market Worker, would've been nice if the reason a night market stall was empty was because you could come up and work it, sell at it like any other selling table or have it be its own job.
SPEAKING OF SECRETS.
Breaking and Entering to snoop through a Sims things when I can do it through multiple different interaction is cucking me and I don't like that. Just give me burglars. Or update the Klepto trait to not have a cooldown (sure, there are mods for this but EA shouldn't depend on modders to give us something they're teasing)
In that same vein CONSEQUENCES, I don't want my sim to just get into a fight. Arrest them. Send them to jail. Give me some cross pack combability with GTW and let me use that lot for once to report theft and/or give me NPC Cops to fight instead.
And my biggest gripe so far, for a pack that I haven't personally played, are the SECRETS themselves. I hate how much EA infantilizes its players while simultaneously being the same game with a plant that eats people and a murder apartment. The secrets, which are a fun mechanic, just seem so blah. Not only because they also seem random but they're also just... childish. (I get T for Teen, but I feel like most of the player base are adults) Give me SPICY SIM SECRETS: who's having an affair, who's faked their death, who has a literal skeleton in their closet, who's embezzled money, who's proudly the weekend (Also a great mechanic to make their occult states a secret) ! Make the blackmail worth it and make it more than $100 dollars. If a Landgraab has a secret love child out there and I find out they're wiring me 10k a week for life, at least. If I can't have consequences, give me hot tea! Also sure, I could keep their secret but also let me gossip about it to other people and get in a fight because I didn't keep their secret. It's a good game mechanic but it's a wasted opportunity.
MISCELLANEOUS: and this is nitpicking but I would've wanted an animation of the child drawing out the hopscotch and marble circle instead of one you just put down in Build/Buy. Other than that I love having more things for them to do and the collection system for marbles but I want more marbles.
Okay, off to watch Kdramas. I will post regular game screenshots... eventually. I'm prepping for Joy of Life. It's my first real generational challenge (2nd challenge overall, I got to baby 79 in 100 baby before I just stopped)

I would like to say there’s this weird interesting thing I kinda picked up from the trailer. There’s this reoccurring reference to time in this third beta. First of all, Cattle’s AoA with the clock and then we hear this clock ticking at the end of the trailer. As well as a reference of how can Wonder and Joker meet across space and time. Also im not as sure about this, but Wonder doesn’t have his mask on for a lot of the art in this new beta which makes me doubt we’re gonna be able to tell Wonder from fake Wonder in this new beta as well. And as I feel like Cattle knowing more than he’s letting on is def true and while idk if he’s like the true big bad, he’s def up to something.
Oh, there's one more instance of a time/clock theme introduced in the second beta- the area in Mementos that lets you return to a Palace after you've stolen its Treasure! Which, uh, considering its apparent ties to cognition and time, makes it... actually extremely relevant here, haha. I don't know too much of the context to it, but- actually, let me go try Google-translating the dialog when it's introduced, since I don't think I got a chance to do that!
[They approach where Kiuchi's Palace used to be in Mementos, I believe?] Cattle: "It is here that something has changed..." Cattle: "Motoha, do you still remember the question you asked before the battle with Kiuchi?" Closer: Ah, it means that if the Palace disappears, will there be other reasons for reappearing? Closer: I just… think it's possible. Cattle: It seems that your feeling is correct. This location seems to have become a transfer station connecting the impression space and a certain place. Closer: Somewhere…….. where!? Cattle: Haha, you'll know it when you see it, let's go. System popup: Started the rapid movement to [Between Past Cognitions.] (I assume this means quick travel) Player choice: Entering the space between past cognitions. [Game screen switches to the Palace select menu screenshotted in the linked post above.] Goal in corner: [Past Cognition Network -> Observe the Palace of Rebirth] [Player selects Cognition - Baseball Stadium.] Closer: Kiuchi's Palace!? Closer: This place should have collapsed, and obviously we have already removed the secret treasure… Cattle: Don't worry, everything you said is true. But what I saw in front of me was indeed Kiuchi's Palace… Cattle: It's just a "temple that once existed", and it remains in this area as an identity. Closer: Cognition… the Palace of Cognition…
So... maybe just cognition, not time travel exactly, but there's definitely that sort of vibe to it. And, I'd say, a few points for Cattle knowing more than he's letting on!

here's some ideas for glitch popups that would appear during other trailers of other mods before conspiracy's ballad's trailer plays at the end of the thing which i forgot the name of (& some things explained about them)
if you don't want spoilers of what I have planned do NOT click the read more
Almost directly at the end of the first mod trailer, It is a direct rip of the comment Jamie had left on the first episode of Substitute, only with the name almost entirely redacted. "MR. XXXXXX IS HERE." The name "Mr. XXXXXX," With enough research put in by the viewers, would read: "Mr. Cotard."
About halfway into the second trailer, It displays the message "SAVE OUR SOULS." Being presented as a message sent by the victims of the supposed "Mr. XXXXXX."
At the end of the second trailer, It displays a message that reads "HE STANDS IN THE PLACE OF GOD." The viewers would most likely put together that the man in the place of god is "Mr. XXXXXX" himself.
There is no direct glitches in the 3rd trailer (if it isn't the final trailer.) But the message "NOTHING EXISTS" Occasionally flashes in the corner of the screen throughout.
These would not be in the place of a trailer, but they would appear in-between the previous & the final one (AKA the one for Conspiracy's Ballad, if everything goes accordingly.) There would be 4 separate messages, going in the order displayed: "I NEVER UNDERSTOOD," "TO LIFE I AM BLINDED," "SLEEP LIES IN TORTURE'S WAKE," & "I CREATED THIS WORLD & I WANT TO DESTROY IT." The messages are supposed to be interpreted as messages from each of the members of Clyde's friend group, going in the same order as each of them are introduced.
This message would display after a black screen after the trailer for Conspiracy's Ballad ends, it would read "THE SUBSTITUTE KNOWS ALL." The word "Substitute" being highlighted in red in order to help the viewers with their debunk on what the previous messages could of been regarding.
