i hope when veilguard comes out people will like... let people dissect it and be critical and very 'the curtains were blue symbolized xyz' and not get shitty about that way of engaging with things you enjoy and claiming that any negative opinion is 'fandom drama'.
like for sure if you don't like talking about that shit, great, don't engage, leave it alone. But the amount of times you'll be having a perfectly fun talk about biowares Unfortunate Implications because of their constant statement of real world parallels and inspirations and their handling of shit in game and how that unintended outcome effects their intended story or something and someone comes along and like fandom high horses about how it's not that deep let people enjoy things why are you being so negative whine whine bitch bitch about it is wild.
Let people engage with fandom however they enjoy. For some that will be Big Think. It will be analyzing shit, no matter their skill level at doing so, and digging into it. If that's not it for you, that's awesome! I'm sure most people like both at different times, different moods, different media properties. Sometimes you want to get in the fandom place and go 'i bet this blorbo would cry if their tamagotchi died' and other times you want to talk about the accidental 'colonialism is good' narrative in the scifi movie you just watched or how xyz thing is part of a larger character motif about 123.
Respect whatever the fuck fandom means to other people, and just don't engage with shit you don't want to. Either direction. Don't go on posts of people being silly goofy and happy and be a jag, don't go on posts being negative or critical about something and get mad about people being negative. Grow up. Move on. None of it matters.
#the more i like something the more i want to chew on it#the games i play the most are the ones i have the most opinions on same with books i love and films and tv shows#i have the most to say good and bad and will delight in sitting with a friendo#and ripping into bioware accidentially doing blood libel and shit like that#it doesn't take away from the game to me#and in fact adds to it cause it shows me other peoples approaches to the story and interpretations of it#and how our real world experiences flavor how we engage with and view these stories from the offset#not a da example but i remember a star wars fandom friend being the first person who pointed out the tusken raiders are indigenous populati#and their use in the earlier movies v much mirrored like western depictions of indigenous americans#its something other expanded universe stuff actively talked about#and i'd never noticed of thought about it cause i didn't really do legends era eu#that was a really interesting thing to think about and talk about#and htis was the same star wars fandom friend#who you could go to for 'i bet this alien species has a fucked up penis' talks#we came to the conclusion that duros - what cad bane is - probably had hemipenes cause they're reptilian#and they headcanoned togruta as having barbed cat dicks#i swear to god if people use this as an invitation to argue with me and prove my point#i will not be surprised but i sure will block them#ive just been seeing a WORRYING amount of that kinda more old school hyper positivity shit lately and it's... weird...#but i also imagine it's in part related to certain fandom cricles i've ended up falling into following and watching#and maybe less of a general trend#at least i ihope that's the case#i am so going to rethink this post and delete it or make it private in like an hour tops

Would hwr reader be the cool wine aunt? (I can see her accidentally getting drunk off wine thinking it was grape juice or non alcoholic, then chrollo having to supervise her the whole night lol)
anon ... are you a secret telepath because i've considered so many variations of this exact scenario.
for some context on HWR reader's abysmal alcohol tolerance — certain bloodlines from her home country hailed from the dark continent. they could temporarily boost their abilities, whether it be the five senses, strength, or speed, at the cost of enduring excruciating pain once the burst ends. a peculiar side effect owing to this constitution is that those who possess it are extremely sensitive to psychoactive substances. so, understandably, she takes great care in avoiding anything that could land her in a precarious position.
the common language in hxh isn't her native tongue, so if a word or term is obscure enough, all bets are off. for instance, in the earlier days when she just joined the troupe, paku once offered her a nightcap. HWR reader accepted. imagine her confusion when she was presented with a drink. it didn't look like any hat she'd seen before. the troupe greatly perplexed her at first.
the scenario you proposed has definitely happened before. here's the basic rundown:
her and chrollo were staking out an event under the pretense of being guests. a wandering waiter offered her a drink from his tray. it wasn't held in a champagne chute, martini glass, or the like, there was no indication to the beverage's true nature. she inquired over the ingredients. the waiter listed off what made up the concoction. the name of the hard liquor went over her head, it was the lovechild of a recent startup the event's owner had invested in to 'diversify his investment portfolio.'
it lacked the bitter tang commonly associated with alcohol. it was slightly sweet with a tarte aftertaste.
whilst sipping away and fraternizing with the other attendees, chrollo reappeared. he'd been piecing together a mental blueprint of the estate for later use. he easily integrated back into the social scene, almost as if he'd never left in the first place. before he'd even reentered the grand reception area, he'd caught onto a fluctuation in HWR reader's impeccable aura. while not an outright cause for alarm, he found it odd.
(some not SFW beneath the cut)
although he hid it well, he was genuinely surprised to see his normally abstinent lover indulging herself. she was critiquing the research of two gentlemen who had been not so subtly flaunting their game-changing findings the entire evening. the men appeared scandalized as she pointed out inconsistencies in their data and the like. he swooped in only when it became evident the men were about to raise a fuss, smoothly excusing him and his increasingly irate date.
he could roughly guess how this predicament came to be. he explained to her in a low and steady voice that this drink actually has a high alcohol concentration. it took a moment for her impaired cognition to catch up with his words. when the realization hit, however, she was not enthused.
by the time they'd made it back to their 'borrowed' vehicle, her legs were unsteady. there was a thin glaze over her eyes, like she was only half-present. on the drive back to the hotel, she'd randomly continue her earlier critique in an incomprehensive murmur. he never knew poorly falsified data was such an unforgivable slight in her eyes.
chrollo was growing increasingly intrigued by this unfiltered version of his otherwise prim and proper girlfriend. did he feel bad that she ended up in this position? kinda, but he wouldn't let anything happen to her. or, to be more precise, let anything happen to the civilians in the immediate area. not out of compassion, mind you, but for convenience's sake. he's trying to maintain a low profile in this area until the heist's completion. a dangerous, sword-wielding woman capable of wiping out an entire town's population should she see fit would be counteractive to this goal.
he dutifully keeps an eye on her in their suite. she vacillates between forgetting he's there or eagerly engaging him in a wide array of topics. everything from the separation of church and state to 'if he really likes her.' at this point, she'd shrugged off her outer garments (with his assistance), the heat of inebriation unbearable. chrollo had been exercising every modicum of self-control in his body as she crawled into his lap, perching herself there like it was her throne. her fingers, free from her usual gloves, brushing along the various grooves of his face.
"pretty," she hums. her blissed out expression, breathy voice, and the pressure of her body against his crotch makes him strain to behave himself. "my pretty boy."
he's grateful that she isn't lucid enough to note the rosy blush that spreads over his cheeks at this unexpected praise.
in a languid motion, her arms wrap around his neck. she embraces him tight enough that he can feel the soft swell of her chest, threatening to spill out from its restraints. she plays with the ends of his hair, humming a melody unknown to him, perfectly content. he allows himself some indulgence — his hands settle on either side of her hips. to help steady her, he tells himself. for such a proficient liar, this excuse is admittedly pathetic.
"boss."
"hm?"
"i have a secret," she whispers. this piques his curiosity, overriding his previous sentiments to respect her privacy. selfishly, he hopes she doesn't remember this come morning. otherwise, he'll be in for an earful...
"oh?" he goads her on. "and what would that be?"
(goodbye plausible deniability).
her lips brush against his outer ear and he shivers.
"i've fallen in love with someone."
his breath hitches in his throat. he ceases his previous ministrations of rubbing circles into her skin. despite enjoying three years of sex, heists, and frequent companionship, those infamous three words have yet to be uttered. they've made it evident that they're exclusive, but that's about it. neither of them have delved into the nitty and gritty of whatever their relationship truly means.
momentarily, he forgets how to weave elaborate webs that ensnare his victims right where he wants them. all eloquence and posturing melts away. what little of him that leaves remaining utters his next two words, not the persona whose charisma could rival a manipulator's hatsu.
"with who?"
the raw, guttural urgency he speaks this inquiry with is foreign to his ears. he wonders what he'd do should she profess devotion for another. would he have what it takes to respect her choice? it's a silly question; of course he wouldn't, not past a chilling smile that doesn't reach his eyes.
alas, this hypothetical is put to rest. its his name that she speaks. the accent she tries suppressing sneaks out, curling around each slowly enunciated syllable. after what feels like an eternity, he relaxes, sinking back into the plush couch.
"don't tell him," there's a threatening edge to her voice.
chuckling softly, he hugs her tighter.
"i won't."

Excerpt from this story from Inside Climate News:
Three of the four states that still have grizzlies in the contiguous U.S.—Wyoming, Montana and Idaho—have each taken legal actions to remove the bears from the endangered species list and take over their management. But while the brown bear populations have recovered in some of their habitats, opponents of their delisting say that it’s too soon to give their oversight to states that could allow hunting and management practices that aren’t based on science, while climate change and development are pressuring the species’ habitats and food sources.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the federal agency responsible for managing species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), recently announced that it will decide in January 2025 whether to delist grizzly bears, as requested by several states. But the states have already begun preparing for how they will proceed, anticipating the lifting of the federal restrictions. From relaxing regulations outside protected areas to introducing new provisions for handling human-bear conflicts and eventually allowing grizzly hunting, the states have ambitious, multifaceted plans to manage the iconic species. The agencies claim these efforts will better serve the economies and residents of their states while also ensuring the bears’ safety and the species’ survival.
Wyoming Governor Mike Gordon submitted a petition in January 2022 to the USFWS, requesting that the agency drop federal Endangered Species Act protections for grizzly bears in the lower 48 states and put Wyoming, Montana and Idaho in charge of the grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE).
The petition required the federal agency to release a review of grizzly protections within 12 months, but the agency missed the deadline, prompting Wyoming to sue in June 2023. Following the lawsuit, the FWS had until July 2024 to release its review, as outlined under Section 4 of the ESA, which gives the agency 12 months to fully assess a petition to protect or remove protections for a species after an initial finding of substantial grounds for review.
As that deadline approached in July, Montana filed a 60-day notice of intent to sue the USFWS for failing to respond to its 2021 petition to delist grizzly bears in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem, which includes Glacier National Park. The USFWS also missed the 12-month deadline to issue a review in response to this petition, prompting the state to consider yet another legal action.
And, according to a filing from the USFWS, Idaho also submitted a petition in March 2022 to delist grizzlies, but the USFWS denied the request in February 2023.
The USFWS has now delayed its decision until January to allow time to deal with all the legal actions aimed at changing how the bears are protected, according to a court filing in July by the agency’s Mountain-Prairie Regional Director Matt Hogan.
“To ensure consistency between these decisions, the Service currently intends to finalize all three of these documents – the GYE 12-month finding, the NCDE 12-month finding, and the proposed rule revising or removing the entire ESA listing of grizzly bears in the lower-48 states—simultaneously,” Hogan said in the filing.

I’m attempting an actual set up/timeline of sorts for Captain Laserhen and wanted to share what I’ve written down so far
I appreciate opinions and criticism if you’re comfortable reading about an au involving themes of Eugenics, unethical practices that go against people’s bodily autonomy and consent , male pregnancy, abuse and general fears regarding pregnancy, parenthood and how that can change someone
You see Eden, the big fans of eugenics that they are , don’t feel it’s enough to simply scan through their civilian population and hunt down those with “worthy” genetics for their various military programs: They want a way to manufacture super soldiers personally
Cloning seems like an obvious choice and cloning technology is something they have access to. But it takes so many resources just to create and maintain one clone through its development , never mind all the mutations and amount of failures that could happen during the cloning process, and then there’s the issue of this information getting out to the press and the controversy it’d cause
But most importantly, clones are essentially dolls with a conscious, and dolls don’t have any loyalty to their owners. Sure Eden is a master at brain washing and almost perfected the art of manipulating people. But Eden already has defectors and traitors despite their best efforts to maintain control of their own civilians , who’s to say what chaos would happen if mass produced clones became part of the equation?
No , it best to keep cloning to a strict minimum of a select few. A few rogue clones is much easier to deal with then an entire trained army of rogue clones
Eden realised it’s not enough to raise children to wield guns , their soldiers need a reason to remain loyal to Eden despite the horrors and abuse, a connection to keep them tied to the system even when doubt eats at them in the dead of night
And what greater ties is there than that of blood: A family
So Eden gave their male super soldiers a sort of “retirement protocol” where they essentially have an artificial womb (don’t ask me the specifics of this it’s sci fi horror nonsense) so that when those super soldiers (ideally) aged out of the military, they’d get pregnant and pop out a replacement to take their place
Or if a super soldier chose to become a traitorous terrorist, Eden will have leverage to bring them back into their arms
(Dolph in this au is cis and while the Eden army is dominantly cis, there’s likely issues a trans or genderqueer character would face from this situation that simply has not crossed my cis brain, just wanted to add this tidbit here since the set up is primarily focused on cis men going through this unethical treatment)
The specific reasons why this was done to male soldiers:
Women already have wombs and the capability to produce children, so it’d be pointless all things considered
There’s a larger amount of men in the army compared to women, so obviously Eden has gotta put their resources on getting *the men pregnant* replacements for those men ready
Men who are amab aren’t expected to ever fall pregnant and thus aren’t prepared for the turmoil and stress that comes with pregnancy the ways which women are. The men would be in a vulnerable position and would seek out help by any means necessary , plus be much easier to manipulate (either through use of their new found motherly instincts or their desire to be rid of this unexpected baby)
Most importantly, men do not have the means to have a natural birth. This is the most crucial part as the way Eden has done it, the men will have no choice but to seek medical attention to have a c section when the baby is due and thus even if that man does not want to return to Eden, Eden will still have the means to find him anyways
“But what about the press/public learning about this?!” Oh Eden already has an answer to that: Male pregnancies are a result of a strange effect of dimension X leaking into our universe and biologically impacting Eden’s male population(which is all the more reason it’s important to keep alien scum out!)
Basically, Eden blames the aliens. Because a vulnerable pregnant man is going to be far more willing to crawl back into the system that abused him if he believes aliens are the ones making him go through the horrific process of an unnatural pregnancy, instead of the truth that Eden has purposely done unethical practices on his body to keep him on a leash
And Dolph is one of those men that Eden unethically gave with the ability to have babies, all without his knowledge or consent, yay!
Side note, normal children are 50:50 when it comes to inheriting their parents’ genetics. But super soldier babies actually take about 75 to 85% after their “mother” (again, Eden being huge fans of eugenics and not wanting to lose such valuable genes) so any children Dolph has, regardless of the other parent, will always take more after him
The timeline of this au diverges from the canon plot as of episode two , before Dolph walks in on Alex sleeping with Pagan (so anything that happened after that doesn’t happen, most notably Jade does not die). Instead of seeing the cigarette and finding his cheating boyfriend, the smell of the smoke makes Dolph vomit and team ghost are forced to abort mission. Though technically it’s been divergent from canon before episode one even happens

There is another specific problem I see with regard to sexuality. There is a common assumption that certain kinds of conceptual analysis or literary and film criticism provide descriptions or explanations about living individuals or populations, without establishing the relevance or applicability of such analyses to those individuals or groups. I have no objection to people performing dazzling analytic moves upon a body of assumptions or texts in order to say interesting things about those assumptions or texts. I have nothing against philosophy, literary analysis, or film criticism per se. But I have a problem with the indiscriminate use of such analyses to generate descriptions of living populations or explanations of their behaviors.
For example, there is a trend to analyze sexual variance by mixing a few privileged “theoretical” texts with literary or film criticism to produce statements about either the thing (e.g., “masochism”) or the population (e.g., “masochists”). The currently fashionable “theory” of sadomasochism is Deleuze’s long 1971 essay on “masochism.” Despite the fact that Deleuze based much of his analysis on fiction, primarily Sacher-Masoch’s novel Venus in Furs and some texts of de Sade, he is taken to be an authority on sadism and masochism in general. Since he is known as a theorist, his comments on sadism and masochism are surrounded with the penumbra of “Theory.”
Deleuze treats differences in the literary techniques of Sade and Sacher-Masoch as evidence for ostensible differences between “sadism” and “masochism.” But what are the “sadism” and “masochism” of which he speaks? Are they literary genres? Desires of living sadists and masochists? Floating formations of desire? He makes sweeping generalizations about “sadism” and “masochism,” such as, “Sadism negates the mother and inflates the father; masochism disavows the mother and abolishes the father. . . . There is an aestheticism in masochism, while sadism is hostile to the aesthetic attitude.” I find statements like these fairly meaningless, intelligible only because of a psychoanalytic tradition that has equated particular constellations of sexual desire with alleged universals of childhood development. What troubles me is that such generalizations are and will be taken as descriptive statements about those persons and populations who might be considered “masochistic” or “sadistic.”
Deleuze is very smart, and it also seems clear from his text that he had some acquaintance with practicing perverts. But his empirical knowledge enters primarily as anecdote. He seems familiar with female dominance, particularly by professional Mistresses. He seems to generalize from some literature and some kind of personal knowledge to make statements about “masochism” and “sadism” in a broader context. This essay is fascinating, yet hardly definitive. It is nonetheless becoming an authoritative text for writing about masochism and sadism.
There are now discussions which draw on Deleuze to analyze the “masochistic aesthetic,” “the masochistic text,” “masochism’s psychodynamics,” or “masochistic narrativity.” Such usage implies that masochism is an “it,” a unitary phenomenon whose singular psychodynamic, text, aesthetic, or narrativity are not only knowable but known. Leaving aside the issue of what terms like this mean, I see a danger that statements about what “masochism” in this sense “is” or “does” or “means” will be taken as descriptions or interpretations of what actual masochists are, do, or mean. Yet the authority of these statements is not derived from any systematic knowledge of masochism as it is practiced by masochists. It is derived from an analytic apparatus balanced precariously upon Deleuze’s commentary, Sade’s fiction and philosophical writings, Sacher-Masoch’s novels, psychoanalytic writings on the etiology of masochism, various other texts and films, and personal anecdote.
I have this quaint, social-science attitude that statements about living populations should be based on some knowledge of such populations, not on speculative analysis, literary texts, cinematic representations, or preconceived assumptions. And I can hear the objection to what I’m saying already: “But Deleuze,” someone is bound to say, “is Theory.”

YES. If you go to therapy, this is what they should tell you. The language a medical professional should use is HSP or Highly Sensative Person. It is commonly associated with disorders resulting from prolonged trauma, ADHD, and Autism.
Your counselor should NEVER use the word empath.
Personally, my mother has called herself an empathy for ages, because she didn't have this term before. But she has acknowledged that this is the correct term to use. We still use empath though bc it's easier to say, but your medical professional should never use it.
Empaths are technically not real, but this term has been used before as a way of connecting with a real problem they didn't have the right name for. For context, the woman who coined it is only 78 years old.

the ones that never demanded the party complied with the promises they did not keep.
the ones that never protested they the could have made abortion and hormonal treatments federally protected but they choose not to for populaty.
the ones that protected a party that funded genocide on palestine and the congo massacres while telling us to forget about murdered kids for elections.
the ones that let them join forces with those that made the war of iraq like liz cheney,
all of you are the reason of this result. don't blame those that you didn't convince for they see that there's no lesser evil, evil cannot be quantified, evil is evil and you defend it because it benefited your identity.
you get what you sow
sadly now that the lifelong positions of the justices have a conservative majority the whole century is lost.
even if you learn you will forget the lesson pain is about to teach you, you will never change, you will repeat the same cycles over and over again in the name of conformity
