I found it cool that the top 5 ships on Tumblr were also the top 5 ships overall (not in order though)! I wasn't surprised Destiel came out on top again! They were my first slash ship ever before I knew what "shipping" or "fandom" was, two years before I had internet or a cell phone (parents were late with technology & I didn't get home internet til I was 15.) The Destiel ship has been soaring the galaxies for the past 16 years and there will surely be no end to the fervor the internet has for the adorable gay angel and his hunky green-eyed human. I've been in the fandom since 2020 and it doesn't take a lot of smarts to see there's been a change in tone in the way some people say that in the last year. Since this new arc of history began, destructive criticism, massive hate and threats have overflowed into hundreds of profiles. It's no longer "oh, I hate Gege akutami" now and for a while now it's "I hate Gege akutami - his manga is horrible I'm gonna drop it (they never do) - he doesn't deserve popularity - he doesn't know how to write - he pretends to have an illness."

And yet, it's not normal to make jokes about wanting to kill someone, hon. Go check yourself if you find that funny, you're no better than let's-joke-about-sensitive-issues reddit incels

There's two types of people who use transandrophobia to decribe transmascs' and trans mens' experiences:

- Simply specificity, language used to hone in on a specific way being trans affects people who just happen to be men

- As both the above and as a springboard to discuss how societal misogyny, radical feminism, gender stereotypes, and bioessentalism affect all people who can be pecieved as men or masculine by others, and how bigotries compound in meaningful ways with stereotypes and bigotry surrounding maleness and manhood

Like. Half of you are saying "maleness is a hollow experience which is standard, and exists in opposition to gendered oppression, and transandrophobia is therefore when dudes experience misogyny and transphobia"

and half of you are saying "Being percieved and/or transitioning towards male uniquely affects how I am treated, because, for example, how people perceive my blackness or mental illness or kinkiness or femininity is compounded with my manhood in ways that don't usually happen to gender conforming cisperi women"

Which are two fundamentally different approaches to transandrophobia as a concept. One suggests that maleness is a simple downy layer of privilege that coats a person through their male life, and the other acknowledges that a man (or somebody perceived as masculine/male) can experience oppression in ways that those NOT perceived male may not.

Only one of these interpretations is intersectional. Black individuals who are policed more hashly when interpreted as masc know they are risking dangerous experiences when transitioning to male, as has been discussed before on here (to no avail). Male or percieved male people with personality disorders are treated as more dangerous than women with similar symptoms, and are sometiems diagnosed with different disorders entirely based on percieved gender differences. This affects transmascs too, especially considering the already dire state of queerness in psychiatric institutions. Being a male birthing parent is a whole shitshow of transphobia because men are not supposed to give birth, and transmascs are lucky to access related healthcare at all, let alone access it without being ceaselessly misgendered and treated as a stigmatised 'other' to deleterious affects on parent and baby. These are just a few examples, there are many more ways maleness can screw a person over. And that's not to say that female privilege is a thing instead of male privilege, but rather to emphasise that men are not supposed to be minorities. Men are not supposed to be assaulted, men are not supposed to be outliers, men are absolutely not supposed to be trans.

When a man is autistic, he's not just autistic, he's an autistic male, and that makes him more likely to be killed by cops (especially if black). When someone says "you claim you're not ableist but you're scared of the homeless x on a bus talking to xself", they always say the person is a man, because that sounds more significant (and cops think so too). Consider when a person's rape/abuse is considered to not be all that serious due to the victim being male, or when a man's attraction is considered to be more exploitative than a woman's, or when a fat man is considered more creepy/sexist than a thin man or a fat woman. Consider why so many caricatures of evil and creepiness are men with deformities. Consider the fact that men's bathrooms don't have baby changing tables, and that a man may get less support from others after their child's death than the mother might. Maleness can negatively compound with things like minority status, vulnerability, aggression, sexuality, etc. in ways that screw that person over, both in social spaces (such as queer communities that dislike/distrust maleness and masculinity, or how isolation affects men harder), and in more tangible ways, like their rates of suicide and being murdered.

There are tangible ways in which transitioning to male can negatively affect a person's life even if you remove (hypothetically, not really possible) the transphobia element, and these also constitute as worthwhile topics of discussion. If you think maleness is the lack of gendered oppression, then you're not intersectional in your feminism at all. If your life as a male is genuinely sunshine and rainbows (apart from the transphobia if trans), then good for you, genuinely that's great, but not everyone lives in a radfem fantasy world.

Being unable to tell the difference between men talking about mens issues/liberation, and right wingers talking about oppressing women more, isn't feminist. It's ignorant and antifeminist. (MRAs don't care about actual mens lib, and are actively worsening it because they are sexist and opposed to gender lib. You guys know that, right? That male and female liberation aren't oppositional or binary, but the same gender liberation that is entirely oppositional to patriarchy?)

These men and mascs talking about issues facing men aren't ignorant womanhaters who deny misogyny and want ultraprivileged men to be coddled, they are good faith members of your community with experiences just as varied and valid as yours. Treat them like it.

First instance: Blaine and the Pips

In season 2, while Kurt is at Dalton, he is feeling stifled by the private school's rules and such. And he's jealous that Blaine gets all the leads in Warbler performances. Being Kurt, he calls Blaine out on it.

Upon hearing this, Blaine doesn't get offended or upset. He tries to get the Warbler council to bend on what uniforms they wear at regionals (listen. Baby steps lol) and eventually gets them to acquiesce and make one of the solos a duet. Of course, Blaine did have ulterior motives, as we know, but i do think that Kurt calling out the Warbler's favoritism of him helped him reach the decision to demand ask politely for a duet with Kurt.

Second instance: Joining New Directions

When Blaine joined ND, he says "We're gonna go to NATIONALS!" Showing that he's a team player and all that. He doesn't come in with the expectation of being the defacto lead again, and he knows that the team going to nationals is only going to happen if they all work together.

Him being a part of an a capella group likely informed this, as he knows that the Warblers have to sing in perfect unison. You don't really get one person who just sings runs a la Mercedes and Artie and hits a power note, you have each voice building on the others. Even though Blaine was almost always seen singing nothing but lead, we can assume that he did his time as a lowly harmonizer when he first joined.

Third instance: Oops I mean Rory

There's a scene in season 3 where Finn is 1. Trying to inspire his teammates and 2. Trying to bolster his recruit, Rory.

Up to that point, Finn is obviously jealous of Blaine's talent and worried about his position as lead male vocalist. He's been pretty hostile to Blaine since he joined ND, which is notable because before that, he and Blaine got along just fine.

Finn starts talking about giving their newest member a solo, because he's earned it. Blaine is sitting in front of Rory, who Finn is talking to, so he thinks Finn is talking about him, and has a look on his face like 'Oh how nice of Finn to suggest a solo!' And when Finn asks Rory if he's up for it, Blaine looks confused for a moment.

But then, instead of getting mad and seeing this as another slight from Finn, Blaine turns in his seat and encourages Rory, who is hesitant, and then tells Finn he thinks it's a great idea.

Fourth instance: Dance lessons

The worst dancers in the club are required to take extra dance lessons with Mike. Blaine is not required, but asks if he can come anyway to 'catch up' with the others. He is the only member of the team who willingly goes to the extra dance lessons, even though it's only for one lesson.

Fifth instance: Bernardo or Officer Krupke

While talking to Kurt about auditioning for West Side Story, Blaine gives the impression that he will be auditioning for the leading role of Tony. Kurt is desperate for this role to bolster his resume for NYADA, and at this point we learn that Blaine is a junior while Kurt is a senior; it's sort of an unwritten law that seniors get the lead.

Knowing how important it is to Kurt that he gets the lead role, Blaine auditions for Bernardo or Officer Krupke ("either one's f-fine" in a shaky voice after his audition) and is very hesitant to read for Tony.

Blaine probably would've turned the role down if Kurt hadn't told him to take it.

Of course, Blaine isn't perfect and has moments where he does things out of hurt feelings or resentment, he does things that could be considered selfish. But I just think it's interesting to note that, more often than not, he is willing to step aside for the better of the group. I think this is his polite and kind nature, but also a need to be non-confrontational. He does have moments of anger (shoving Karofsky during Night of Neglect, getting on Sam's case about incorporating a body roll into their dance moves, Cooper being overly critical of him making him lash out, Kurt not allowing him to make space for himself in the loft, etc etc) but those moments are almost always when he's been pushed to the brink and he simply cannot contain it anymore. Notably, his anger explodes out of him in a quick flash and easily dissipates, and he's quick to make up with anyone he fought with.
