I never see people actually holding space for the lyrics of Popular because yes, it’s fun song, it’s a flirty song, it’s a silly goofy Gelphie song, but it is also Glinda very explicitly laying out exactly what her vulnerabilities are, how her world view has been severely skewed, and basically saying “this is exactly how I can be manipulated into doing things against my own wants and wellbeing and against the greater good of others” and it very clearly explains her actions for the rest of the musical
