Summer Reading Interlude: The Hunger Games (the series) by Suzanne Collins
The trilogy is really good, and not good for YA, like good in general. Katniss is very consistent, she develops as a character in a natural way. The ending with her, Peeta, and Haymitch semi-successfully dealing with their trauma in a little community is perfect.
For some reason my brain is connecting Katniss and Frodo from Lord of the Rings because even though Katniss succeeds and technically Frodo fails, the end result is that both of them are so entirely broken by the end they basically are non-functional. Something about the fact that both of their homes have been destroyed too and that they can't return. They are never able to leave the darkness entirely behind, and yet their reliance in spite of it all.
It's interesting that all three novels begin in Katniss's childhood home: waking up without Prim beside her, using her old home to store her hunting clothes and therefore the connection to her former life, and then standing in the rubble of her old home after it's been destroyed. Each time she's further and further from ever recovering the life she used to have.

Monspeet and Derieri heavily flirting with each other in demonic, and while Annie has no idea what their saying. Sariel looks at them beyond appalled that they would say such stuff in public and in front of a friend.
And when Annie asks Sariel about it, he pretends that he didn't hear and plays her off.

Imagine passing out after witnessing the start of the apocalypse. Then imagine you’re woken up by a kick to the face from someone you assumed died four years ago and visually hasn’t aged. On top of that she’s with people who were trying to kill you as of two days ago.
God damn that must’ve been surreal as hell. Saw a ghost AND his sworn friends turned enemies. I never considered until today how absolutely terrifying this moment probably was for Reiner.

Getting into season 2, I can tell The Boys is a show full of surprises. When you think this new character will be important later, he isn't. When you think best girl won't do it, she does. And when you think this new electric based character who's really witty is going to be aligned as chaotic good, I somehow even got that wrong
But at least I'm happy to see them be a big happy family
