1928 castle like Tudor in Dearborn, Michigan is kinda quirky. 8bds, 4ba, $1.289M.
It has a fairly large entrance foyer with a closet.
This is very different, isn't it? This home has quite a few wall niches, too.
Large living room has an unusual fireplace. There's even a niche in the fireplace.
Sunken sun room. The house has some very different features.
This is odd. A toilet in the middle. I wonder if there's anything behind there, or is it just a powder room.
The kitchen's nice. Even if the cabinets are dated, the design is castle-like and original to the home.
Nice dinette for everyday and it has a deep niche in the wall.
Very large sunny dining room. The crease in the carpet indicates that it needs to be stretched by a carpet installer.
The home office has interesting shelving. Like the rounded ceiling.
I wonder what color the walls were before they painted them. They probably weren't this stark. More than likely they were yellowish.
Beautiful stairs and landing. I wonder what it cost to paint this whole house.
The primary bedroom is big.
The en-suite has a vintage tub and tile. It looks original, except for the bowl sinks, but the cabinet was painted.
This bedroom was converted to a closet.
This is another bedroom that happens to have a desk. Not a fan of the carpeting- it looks faded and is showing its age.
Bathroom #2 has a long shower and mismatched plumbing fixtures.
This bedroom is a good size.
Interesting bath has a 70s sink.
Large finished basement must be damp b/c they left the dehumidifier out. Looks like a wine rack in the wall.
Very large bar.
Nice enclosed porch.
This is nice- a patio with a large brick outdoor kitchen.
There's also a pool.
Nice large yard and the lot is .52 acre.

my bathroom was not a bathroom originally so the shower has a regular window in it, with a wooden sill on the inside, at chest-and-head height so i am daily showing people across the street my tits, and the bathroom is at an angle because the floor beneath it is sinking so the water from the shower does not run off the windowsill like it's supposed to and instead pools in one corner against the windowframe, and because the bathroom was not at first a bathroom there isn't a fan or ventilation system either so the windowsill puddle after every shower sits and develops an ecosystem over the course of the next day as it sinks into the softly rotting wood, and i noticed this too late to begin wiping it down with a towel after every shower because the water sitting on the wood made the wood Moldy and i didn't want to christen a dedicated Mold Towel when i only had three towels to begin with, but the mold apart from just like being mold also made showering unpleasant because it was like Right There the entire time and i couldn't stop thinking about its proximity and trying to avoid it so after several short-term-solution cullings i finally this last weekend really went to town on the situation, bleach and two toothbrushes and other chemicals and objects i won't list in full here except to say that one of the objects was a second shower curtain liner, which i hung over the entire window and sill and most of the width of that wall of the shower so that the water just mechanically cannot Get to the newly sanitized and dehumidified sill at all, which worked splendidly when i tried it out tonight except i kept the window open to aid the general moisture status of the room and both the plastic liner on my shower curtain and the one over the window billowed inward, trapping me and the water in a gently heaving crevice, like someone's art installation of the vaginal canal through which visitors can walk to reexperience the moment of birth

i have never had a dehumidifier in my life. i have lived in multiple regions with varying weather patterns and, while i know as well as the next guy that it truly is the humidity that gets you, i have never needed to manage the humidity level of my living space—until i moved into this shithole apartment with more structural insecurities than the twin towers on the twelfth. i live in a basement whose repurposing into a fifth apartment presumably took place over the course of six days, based on... everything, visible and invisible, about it. i just looked up the recommended indoor humidity percentage and it's 30-50%. my dehumidifier informs me that this shit has never dropped below 60. i dump a gallon and a half of water down the sink every day just from the dehumidifier. this place has two rooms—a bedroom, and a room where everything else is. the mold in my walls has been here so long, undisturbed, allowed to evolve, that i believe it has more right to the plaster in here than i do to the grass out there. the growth in my bathroom is sentient. i'm lucky it hasn't made any demands.
my partner just asked me why i have a dehumidifier. i literally could not come up with any answer other than "it's humid. inside." it's not supposed to be this way. it's not supposed to be this hard. if i leave a hunk of bread out for a day, it's supposed to go stale, not stay fresh and youthful like some kind of vampire loaf. i'm not supposed to be this clammy. i, a human being, should not have condensation. i should not feel like a bottle of dr. pepper on a white plastic table at two in the afternoon on the fourth of july. i'm just sitting on my couch. it's 69 degrees. uncalled for.
"why do you have a dehumidifier" because if i didn't, my fingers would be pruny. i wouldn't have to blink to moisten my eyes. if i left my mouth open long enough, water would pool in there like morning dew. i could leave a packet of raisins on the counter and come back to grapes in two days. i don't know what to tell you, man. it's humid. inside. it's not supposed to be this way.

Benefits of Professional Water Damage Repair in Chicago and Joliet, IL
Water is a resource that is required for living a comfortable life. The city water supply department ensures the regular water flow in households, but a small mistake can also turn the necessary water into a deadly foe. Any instance of water accumulation indoors resulting from floods, burst pipes, thunderstorms, and fire extinguishing services can leave the rooms flooded with water entering all crevices and corners inside the house. Calling for speedy water damage repair in Chicago and Joliet, IL, can undo the damage substantially and restore the property, thus eliminating the health issues and compromising the building structure. Many homeowners try to remove the water themselves, but huge amounts of water cannot be eliminated by using ordinary home appliances or domestic cleaning products. The services of a professional company can serve the property owner's and other residents' best interests and prove to be truly effective in the long run. Some of the top reasons to utilize professional water damage restoration services are: -
· Prevention of Structural Damage- A sudden surge of water into the building may have the water seep into the structure through drywall, wooden paneling, and insulation. This will weaken the structure substantially, compromising the foundation of the building. The elements may rot and warp, which is evident when the structure is not correctly restored. Quick restitution by a professional team can help remove the pool of water from inside the home, thus reducing the possibility of structural damage to a great extent.
· Reducing Mold & Mildew- It is common knowledge that mold thrives in moist and humid areas. Water accumulation dramatically increases the risks of mold infestation and may adversely affect the occupants' health. The professional team will help to eliminate water and employ dehumidifiers to dry the entire space thoroughly. The risks of mold and mildew development will thus be contained. Simply eliminating the accumulated water and drying the floor, walls, and corners may not be enough. Thankfully, the team will provide advice and recommendations for mold inspection and proper mold remediation by experts as needed after the damage is repaired.
· Preservation of Personal Possessions—A sudden rush of water will affect everything in the line of the water flow. The residents would do well to grab valuable possessions and keep them secure somewhere else. Family heirlooms, paintings, furniture, heavy items of value, and documents cannot be saved together. The professional team engaged in the restoration process will salvage all items, dry them as required, and hand them over to the rightful owner.
· Insurance Assistance—Most insurance companies offer water damage coverage, but floods must be covered separately. Unfortunately, filing a claim is a complex process that often leads to mistakes. The professional water damage restoration team can also deal with this matter and will ensure the successful filing of claims without any additional costs.
Fire is a dreaded peril that can completely destroy a living or working area. It is important to hire a professional team for fire restoration in Chicago and Joliet, IL, to ensure the salvage of important objects and make the burnt and charred space habitable once again.

Signs It’s Time to Book an Air Conditioning Service in Dubai
In Dubai's scorching heat, a functioning air conditioner is more than just a comfort; it's essential. But how do you know when your AC needs professional attention? Ignoring early signs of trouble can lead to bigger problems down the line. Here are the key indicators that it’s time to schedule an air conditioning service in Dubai.
1. Weak or No Airflow
Have you noticed that your AC isn’t blowing as strongly as it used to? Weak airflow could mean that there’s a blockage preventing air from circulating through your ducts. It could also be a sign of a failing compressor. Either way, this issue needs immediate attention. Reduced airflow not only affects cooling efficiency but can also strain your unit, leading to more wear and tear.
2. Unusual Noises
A well-functioning air conditioner should run quietly, with only a gentle hum in the background. If your AC starts making grinding, rattling, or banging sounds, it’s time to be concerned. These noises could indicate loose parts, motor issues, or even debris trapped in the system. Ignoring strange sounds could lead to costly repairs, so it’s best to have an expert take a look.
3. Strange Odors
If your AC emits unpleasant smells when you turn it on, there may be a problem. A musty smell often points to mold or mildew in the unit or ducts, which could impact your home’s air quality. On the other hand, a burning smell might indicate overheating components or damaged wiring. Addressing these issues quickly can prevent potential health risks or system failure.
4. High Humidity Levels
One of an air conditioner's primary jobs is to regulate humidity. If you notice that your home feels more humid than usual, even with the AC running, it’s a sign that something isn’t right. This could mean the unit is not dehumidifying the air properly, possibly due to a malfunction or outdated system. A professional service can diagnose and fix the issue, restoring comfort to your home.
5. Rising Energy Bills
If you’ve noticed a spike in your energy bills without any significant change in your AC usage, your air conditioner might be working inefficiently. Over time, wear and tear or dirty filters can make the unit work harder to achieve the same level of cooling, driving up energy consumption. An air conditioning service in Dubai can help optimize your system, making it more efficient and saving you money on electricity costs.
6. Water Leaks Around the Unit
Water pooling near your AC unit or signs of a leak can be concerning. While a little condensation is normal, excessive water indicates a problem with the drainage system or a potential refrigerant leak. Not only can this damage your home’s interior, but it can also indicate serious underlying issues with your AC unit. Don’t wait for the problem to worsen—call in a professional to investigate.
7. Your AC Is Short Cycling
Short cycling occurs when your air conditioner turns on and off frequently without completing a full cooling cycle. This not only fails to cool your home efficiently but also places extra stress on the system, potentially shortening its lifespan. Causes of short cycling range from thermostat issues to refrigerant leaks, all of which require expert diagnosis.
8. Inconsistent Cooling
Do some rooms in your home feel significantly warmer or cooler than others? Inconsistent cooling can result from clogged ducts, a malfunctioning thermostat, or aging components. Uneven temperatures are more than an inconvenience; they signal that your system isn’t working properly. Getting it checked out can help restore balanced cooling and overall comfort.
Why Timely Service Is Crucial
Addressing AC problems as soon as they arise is essential for keeping your unit running efficiently. Regular servicing ensures that small issues are caught before they become major repairs. Plus, a well-maintained air conditioner lasts longer and keeps your home cool even during Dubai’s harshest summer months.

Top Quality Basement Waterproofing Services in Chennai
Protect your home and increase its value.A dry basement is critical to the overall health of your property. Water penetration destroys your foundation and causes mold development, structural concerns, and a drop in property value. In this article, we'll look at the necessity of basement waterproofing and popular ways and ideas for keeping your basement dry and usable. Why Waterproofing is Important: Prevents structural damage Excess moisture can undermine your home's foundation, causing cracks and shifting. Waterproofing helps to retain your property's integrity, saving you money on future repairs. Mold and Mildew Prevention: Because basements are naturally moist, mold and mildew thrive there. This fungus can induce allergic reactions and respiratory problems.
A waterproofed basement greatly minimizes the likelihood of mold formation. A dry, well-maintained basement increases the value of your home. Prospective buyers value a waterproofed space for storage, a laundry room, or even a full living area. Improves Indoor Air Quality: Water intrusion can cause a musty odor and contribute to low indoor air quality. Keeping your basement dry improves the overall air quality in your home.
Common Waterproofing Methods: inside Waterproofing: This procedure entails treating the inside walls and flooring with waterproof materials. It works well for minor leaks and moisture concerns by forming a barrier against water. Exterior waterproofing entails excavating around your base and installing a waterproof membrane on the exterior walls. It is more invasive but provides a long-term solution to major water problems. French Drains: Installing a French drain system diverts water away from the foundation. It consists of a gravel-filled trench and a perforated pipe that catches and diverts water, relieving pressure on your walls. Sump pumps can be lifesavers in flood-prone homes. This gadget catches and pumps excess water out of your basement, keeping it dry.
Grading and Drainage: Ensure adequate grading around your property to keep water from pooling near the foundation. Furthermore, downspouts should divert water at least six feet away from your property. Tips to Maintain a Dry Basement
Regular inspections: Check your basement for moisture-related indicators, such as discoloration or musty odors. Early detection can prevent bigger problems. Clean Gutters and Downspouts: Keep your gutters free of debris to allow optimum water flow. Downspouts should be directed away from the foundation. Adjust the landscaping to slope away from your property, allowing water to drain away from the foundation. Consider installing a dehumidifier in your basement to reduce humidity levels, particularly in moist climates.
Professional Assessment: If you’re unsure about the state of your basement, it’s wise to consult a waterproofing professional. They can assess the situation and recommend the best solutions for your home.
Conclusion
Investing in basement waterproofing is a crucial step in protecting your home from water damage. With the right methods and maintenance, you can enjoy a dry, healthy basement that enhances your home’s value and livability. Don’t wait for water issues to arise—take proactive steps to secure your space today!

Mold Removal and Beyond: Ways to Lessen the Risk of Mold
There are times when you need mold removed professionally. There can come a time when the only way to restore your home is to have your mold professionally removed. Whenever we’ve done that for our clients, almost inevitably, we’re asked some version of: “is there anything I can do to keep mold from coming back?” These are some of the tips that folks may not think of after receiving professional mold removal in Santa Clarita and the surrounding area.
That having been said, you can do everything right, you can take every precaution, and yet, mold finds its way in. When that happens, we can be there to find the mold and then to remove it.
Being Clean and Dry Can Keep Mold at Bay The cleanliness and dryness of your space plays a critical role. Don’t leave wet clothes and towels on the floor, always hang them up after use. Regular disposal of trash, ideally on a daily basis, and cleaning up all spills promptly can also help. Attention should be paid to wiping any condensation that appears on and around windows.
If you live in an apartment, frequent cleaning of the bathroom and removal of any mildew is recommended. Usage of windows and fans for airing out rooms that generate moisture such as kitchen and bathrooms, is beneficial. For units with attached bathrooms, the use of exhaust fans and windows (if there are any) for ventilation during and after shower usage is encouraged.
Spring Into Action When It Rains Mold requires moisture. Address any wet areas immediately. Wetness from rainfall, (heavy or otherwise) leakage from pipes or any kind of spillage should be dried post haste.
A rule of thumb: household items should not be left damp. Ensure floors and walls are dried after a shower and don’t leave wet clothes in the washing machine. Hanging the clothes to dry outside or in a place with good air circulation is optimal.
Routine house chores might be inadvertently promoting mold in your home. Simple activities like cooking, showering, or laundry should be carried out with adequate ventilation in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and any other high-moisture area.
Appliances creating moisture such as clothes dryers and stoves need to be vented outdoors. Use AC units and dehumidifiers while ensuring they do not generate moisture by regularly checking and cleaning as per the guidelines.
How to Deal Best With Humidity When it comes to humidity, maintain balance. Every home environment should aim to maintain a balance when it comes to humidity.
Studies have shown that sustaining an indoor humidity level between 30 and 60% can keep the home free of mold growth. You can use a moisture meter to measure this or, what most do, stay observant of areas in your home prone to excessive humidity can help nip moisture-related issues in the bud.
How can you tell if you have too much humidity? Condensation. Specifically, condensation on walls, windows, and pipes. Wipe any wet surfaces immediately.
Water Pooling Needs to Be Dealt With, Pronto Water pooling, whether in or around your home, must be fixed. The landscape surrounding your house should slope away from the foundation to prevent water accumulation that could potentially seep into your property. It’s crucial to direct water away from your home to hinder harmful mold development.
Air Circulation Can Keep Mold at Bay A drop in temperature limits air’s capacity to hold moisture. Controlling airflow in your home can prevent this excess moisture from clinging to your walls, windows, and floors.
Enhancing air circulation can be as easy as opening the doors between rooms, ensuring furniture is not placed directly against walls, and keeping doors open – particularly for closets in colder rooms.
Maintain Household Plants Household plants are an excellent element of natural decor that also work to purify indoor air. However, the moist soil in these indoor plants makes it a favorite place for mold growth. Be especially careful around your plants, not allowing that water to get to where it shouldn’t. Some may even consider watering plants with particular teas, those that can help to keep mold at bay. But, just being careful around your plants can help significantly.
Mold Removal in Santa Clarita and Beyond When You Need It The above tips may help you to be able to reduce the possibility that mold enters your home. But, even if you do all of this, mold can, unfortunately, still gain a foothold. If you have the slightest suspicion mold may be around, we can help.
You can schedule mold testing and inspection with our team and then, if necessary, the removal. Reach out to us through our site or by giving us a call.

A picturesque community known for its charming homes and natural beauty, basement renovations in Midhurst are increasingly popular among homeowners seeking to maximize their living space. Whether you're envisioning a cozy family retreat, a stylish entertainment zone, or a functional home office, here’s how you can turn your basement from drab to fab with inspiring renovation ideas.
1. Assessing Your Space: The First Step in Renovation
Before diving into the renovation process, it's essential to assess your basement's current state. Evaluate the following:
Structural Integrity: Check for any signs of moisture issues, cracks, or damage. Addressing these concerns early ensures a solid foundation for your renovation.
Layout and Design: Consider the layout of your basement. Think about how you want to utilize the space and how it will integrate with the rest of your home.
Utilities: Assess the placement of utilities such as plumbing, electrical wiring, and HVAC systems. Proper planning will help you avoid obstacles during the renovation.
2. Design Ideas to Transform Your Midhurst Basement
a. Cozy Family Room
Transform your basement into a cozy family room where you can relax and entertain. Consider the following elements:
Comfortable Seating: Invest in plush sofas and armchairs. Add throw pillows and blankets for a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Entertainment Features: Include a large screen TV, a sound system, and perhaps a game area with a pool table or foosball.
Lighting: Use a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a comfortable and functional space. Recessed lighting and floor lamps can enhance the ambiance.

With remote work becoming more common, a home office is a practical addition to any basement renovation:
Functional Furniture: Choose a sturdy desk and ergonomic chair. Include ample storage with shelves and filing cabinets.
Natural Light: Maximize any natural light by adding large windows or glass doors. If natural light is limited, invest in good quality artificial lighting.
Inspiring Decor: Personalize your space with artwork, plants, and color schemes that motivate and inspire productivity.
c. Luxurious Guest Suite
Create a welcoming guest suite that offers comfort and privacy:
Comfortable Bedding: Invest in a high-quality mattress and bedding to ensure a restful stay for your guests.

Proper insulation is crucial for maintaining a comfortable temperature in your basement. Ensure that your space is adequately insulated to prevent drafts and moisture issues. Use waterproofing techniques and dehumidifiers to keep the area dry and prevent mold growth.

Upon our arrival, the bathroom was completely flooded, water pooling everywhere.
At Sarah’s home, we were met with a major crisis—water had spread throughout the bathroom, soaking into the floors and seeping under the walls. She contacted us in a panic after a pipe had burst, flooding the entire room. Despite her attempts to clean it up herself, the damage was far too extensive for a quick fix.
After talking her through the situation, we quickly got to work. The cause was an aging plumbing system that had weakened over time. We shut off the water supply and used high-powered pumps to extract the standing water. Industrial-grade dehumidifiers were then installed to dry out the space and stop any potential mold growth. By the end of the day, the bathroom was dry, and the situation was under control.
If you ever face a water disaster in your home, don’t hesitate to contact Extreme Fix Water Damage Clean Up & Mold Remediation. We’re available 24/7 to handle any water damage restoration emergency and restore your home as quickly as possible!

Understanding Basement Moisture Absorbers and Solutions for a Wet Basement
Basements are prone to moisture problems, which can cause serious structural damage, promote mold growth, and affect the overall livability of your home. One of the most effective tools in combating this issue is a basement moisture absorber. If you're dealing with a wet basement, you need reliable methods to not only absorb the moisture but also prevent its recurrence. At Renodry US, we specialize in moisture control solutions for basements, ensuring a dry, safe, and healthy environment in your home.
Common Causes of a Wet Basement
Before diving into solutions, it's crucial to understand the root causes of a wet basement. Identifying these factors helps in choosing the right moisture control strategy.
Poor Drainage: When the soil around your foundation is not properly drained, water can seep through cracks and gaps, leading to moisture buildup in the basement.
Cracks in the Foundation: Structural damage in the foundation often allows water to penetrate.
Condensation: High humidity inside the basement can result in moisture forming on walls and floors, commonly referred to as "sweating walls."
Leaky Windows and Doors: Poorly sealed windows and doors let rainwater in, contributing to basement wetness.
Plumbing Leaks: Leaky pipes or improper drainage inside the home can also cause water to pool in the basement.
How a Basement Moisture Absorber Works
A Basement Moisture Absorber is a tool that draws excess moisture out of the air, preventing it from settling on surfaces where it can lead to mold and mildew growth. Typically, moisture absorbers use desiccant materials like silica gel, calcium chloride, or zeolite. These materials attract moisture from the air and trap it, reducing humidity levels.
The key to choosing the right moisture absorber depends on the size of your basement and the level of moisture present. Larger areas with significant water damage might require industrial-grade absorbers, while smaller, slightly damp basements may only need a portable dehumidifier or moisture absorber bags.
Types of Basement Moisture Absorbers
There are several types of moisture absorbers available, each with different levels of effectiveness for various moisture issues:
Desiccant Moisture Absorbers: These include silica gel or calcium chloride products, which are commonly used for smaller areas with low to moderate moisture problems. They work by attracting and retaining moisture in the air, but they need to be replaced or recharged once saturated.
Dehumidifiers: Dehumidifiers are electrical devices that pull in air, remove its moisture, and release dry air back into the room. They are ideal for larger basements or spaces with high humidity levels. Modern dehumidifiers come with adjustable settings that allow you to maintain optimal humidity levels.
Charcoal Moisture Absorbers: Charcoal or activated carbon is another natural way to absorb moisture and control odors. These are ideal for preventing mold and mildew in smaller, enclosed spaces.
Hydroscopic Salt Absorbers: Hydroscopic salts, such as calcium chloride, are highly effective in extremely humid environments. These salts absorb water from the air and can help in serious basement moisture issues.
Dealing with Persistent Wet Basement Problems
If you find that moisture absorbers are not enough to combat your wet basement issues, it's time to explore more advanced solutions. Here’s how Renodry US can help:
Moisture Detection Systems: We use advanced moisture detection technology to find the exact sources of water intrusion in your basement. Identifying whether the issue is caused by cracks, poor insulation, or drainage issues helps us tailor the best solution for your home.
Wall Sealing: Water can penetrate walls through tiny cracks or porous concrete. At Renodry US, we use specialized sealants designed for basement walls, creating a moisture-resistant barrier that prevents further water intrusion.
Drainage Solutions: Proper drainage systems, such as French drains or sump pumps, ensure water is directed away from your foundation. These systems are essential for homes with chronic water issues in the basement.
Dehumidification Systems: We offer high-performance dehumidifiers designed to handle large basements with high humidity. These systems can be customized to automatically maintain ideal moisture levels.
Electromagnetic Drying System: Our cutting-edge Renodry technology uses electromagnetic pulses to reverse the capillary movement of water in the basement walls. This helps in permanently drying out the walls and keeping them dry over the long term, making it a groundbreaking solution for homes with serious moisture problems.
Preventing Future Basement Wetness
Once your Basement Wet is dry, it's important to take steps to prevent future moisture problems. Here are some preventive measures:
Improve Ventilation: Proper ventilation helps to regulate humidity levels in the basement, reducing the chances of condensation forming on walls and floors.
Gutter Maintenance: Ensure your gutters and downspouts are clean and directing water far away from your foundation. Clogged gutters can cause water to pool around your house, eventually seeping into the basement.
Insulate Pipes: Condensation often forms on cold water pipes. Insulating them can help prevent water from dripping and collecting on the basement floor.
Use a Humidity Monitor: Regularly check your basement’s humidity levels using a hygrometer. Maintaining humidity levels between 30-50% is ideal for preventing moisture issues.

The Caity Chronicles: The Bees
Buz buz bitches! I’m back, and finally over the emotional damage caused by the events I will be sharing with you all today.
Let me paint a picture for you. It’s August 2023. I return home from a bachelorette weekend for my dear friend. Sure the weather was absolute shit and we all drove through a hurricane to get back home, but the hoopla was worth it! The reality I came home to, however, was a harsh reminder that the fun was over.
My wall is crying! No, dearest reader, I’m not on drugs. My bedroom wall had streams of tears running down pooling at the floor, which is of course carpet. I grabbed towels, lined them up against the wall, and led them into a pot to drain.
I called my HOA emergency line. Note: my HOA has expressed their dismay before for my calling the emergency line for non-emergencies, to which I often reply “then answer your non-emergency line once in a while.” My HOA is not good. My HOA is trash. I hate my HOA.
When the issue was explained, they responded that they would send someone out to check the roof in a week or so. This displeases me.
Eventually the walls dry their tears and I don’t notice any other incidences for a while. Are there ugly wet stains on my ceiling from the leaks? Sure. But that’s a future Caity problem.
Fast forward to the first weekend of March 2024. I notice the stains are growing on my ceiling due to Southern California’s famous shitty weather *holds up sarcasm sign.* I make a call to my HOA emergency line and leave a message. I send an email as well, to start a paper trail.
The next morning, Milo (my cat) wakes me up with a specific meow that tells me he sees something amiss. (Yes, I know that sounds like a crazy cat lady statement. And it is.) I roll over to find where his attention is focused.
*Drip* *Drip* *Drip*
Oh good. Another leak. Not against the walls this time. In the middle of the ceiling.
I grab the biggest pot I could find and placed it under the drips. Not even three hours go by until I have to replace the pot before it overflows. I ring the HOA line again and leave another message with a certain tone to suggest “hey I might be serious this time so get your ass out here and fix this!” They reply to my original email saying “oh yeah, sure, sure, we’ll be right there… on Monday.” It’s Sunday. I am, once again, displeased.
I placed a tarp down to catch what the pot can’t while I’m away during the day. When I return home, I find a wee li’l pond in my room (see photo for reference). Once sent to the email chain, I get an almost immediate response looping in an HOA member of higher status noting “oh hey, I think this might be serious.” NO SHIT BARBARA!
The roof-fixer-upper people come out the next morning and I show them the inside damage. They go up to the roof for less than 3 minutes before rapidly descending the ladder with fear in their eyes.
“Miss, you’ve got bees.” While sure this sounds better than chlamydia… I was naive to the recovery period of a case of the bees.
Turns out, bees had made their way in between the roof and ceiling, opening up more airways for moisture to get in and cause a leak. (Now my intro makes sense, huh!)
“Yeah we can’t do any roof repairs until the bees are gone.” Wonderful.
I call up the HOA, let ‘em know I’ve been diagnosed with an itchy case of the bees so they can send out the bee-removal folk. The squad arrives and showed me the picture of what exactly scared away the repairmen (see photo for reference). Hives on hives on hives. You’d think Beyoncé was throwing a concert up on the roof! (Get it? Bey-hive? No? Psh. Uncultured.)
Once the slabs of honey and bees are gone, the scaredy-cat roofie people return to assess the damage. Eventually they fix it over the course of a week. But I’m left to my own devices when it comes to the ceiling repairs.
The following process takes more than 3 months to complete:
Water mitigation
Mold and mildew testing
Demolition
Dehumidifying/air purifying
Dry check
Water mitigation
Mold and mildew testing
More demo
Repair
Repaint
My bed needed to be moved to the living room. For two weeks I couldn’t access my closet. My room looked like Dexter is about to slay one of Miami’s latest predators (see photo for reference). Milo’s world is upside down. This displeases us both!
In the midst of all this, I keep finding dead bees on the floor- carcasses from the absent colony. I scoop them up in my hand so they don’t end up as kibble. As I walk toward the door to toss them outside, I notice one wiggling. Ah shit. Poor lil guy is alive and in a cluster of all his dead cousins. My bad! I walk toward the fullest, bloomiest bush of flowers outside to set him down. Mind you, I’ve never been stung by a bee. Bees and I have always had the understanding that as long as I provide quick transportation from one perdy flower to another from time to time, I shalln’t be stung. Well this fucker clearly didn’t get the memo because when I gently nudged him towards the petal, he backed that ass up INTO MY FINGER! Not cool, bee. Not. Cool.
My enemies at this point include bees, the HOA, and ServPro.
“What did ServPro do, Caity?” I will tell you, audience! They gave me more runaround than a three legged dog! Their scheduling department was shit, saying “yeah that person is busy, we’ll have them call you back after lunch.” And by 5pm when I call back “oh… yeah… so they left for the day, but we’ll have them call you back first thing in the morning.” Bullshit! I don’t trust you, Susan from reception!
ServPro reps came and went over the next few weeks. I quickly learn why teachers used to separate me from my friends once I hear giggling from Daniel, Max, and Julio. These fuckers are watching Instagram videos in my room! Hey! Boys! *snap snap* Back to work! Plus now I have to get on a work call.
Daniel and Julio oblige. Max, on the other hand, feels this is a good time to go to the bathroom. My bathroom. No kids, not number one. Max needed to drop a heavy ass load. A putrid cloud wofts my way as the door opens. While the effort to mask the smell with my lavender-scented Febreeze was appreciated, it sure as shit wasn’t effective. I snarl my nose in disgust, prompting my coworker on my Zoom call to text me “fix your face.” …Mom always said I shouldn’t play poker.
It is now nearing the end of May, and I’m anticipating my family’s visit at the end of June, all the while still hopping over my mattress to get to the kitchen. ServPro is apparently back logged in repairs and suggests far-into-the-future dates for Daniel, Max, and Julio to return. I don’t have time to schedule “sometime next week.” No, Craig from repairs, we will not be patiently awaiting your coworker’s callback any longer. This nightmare has gone on for months! Give me my closet back! And if you don’t care about my wellbeing, think about the children! (Yes, still talking about my cat.)
Well kids, the Karen voice worked. The Dexter tarps came down. The walls and ceilings insulated and boarded up. The walls repainted the specific Behr “Meditation Time” green, and the baseboards recovered with the “Stormy Haze” gray. Even the home insurance payments have been completed.
Could this perhaps be the end of it all?
August, 2024. *Buzzzzzzzz*
I look outside my bedroom window. Beyoncé must be back. The queen is rebuilding.
MOTHER OF !$&@- roll credits.

Indoor Outdoor Pool Designs: Creating a Seamless Swimming Experience
Swimming pools have always been a symbol of luxury and relaxation. However, in today's architectural landscape, the concept of indoor outdoor pool designs is gaining immense popularity. These innovative designs provide a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a unique swimming experience that can be enjoyed year-round. In this article, we explore various aspects of indoor outdoor pool designs, from their benefits to design considerations, and provide inspiration for creating your own seamless swimming experience.
Benefits of Indoor Outdoor Pool Designs
Year-Round Usability
One of the most significant advantages of indoor-outdoor pools is their year-round usability. Traditional outdoor pools are often limited by seasonal weather conditions, making them unusable during colder months. Indoor-outdoor pools, however, allow for swimming in any weather, thanks to their integrated design that combines the protection of an indoor environment with the openness of an outdoor setting.
Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal
Indoor outdoor pool designs create a visually stunning space that enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of a property. The seamless integration of indoor and outdoor areas can make the pool appear larger and more inviting. Utilizing glass walls, retractable roofs, and sliding doors further accentuates the connection between the two spaces, providing unobstructed views and natural light.
Increased Property Value
A well-designed indoor-outdoor pool can significantly increase the value of a property. Prospective buyers often view these pools as a luxurious feature, adding to the overall attractiveness of the home. Investing in such a design can yield a high return on investment, both in terms of monetary value and quality of life.
Design Considerations for Indoor-Outdoor Pools
Choosing the Right Location
The location of your indoor-outdoor pool is crucial for maximizing its benefits. Ideally, the pool should be situated in an area that receives ample sunlight while being sheltered from harsh weather conditions. Positioning the pool near living spaces such as the kitchen or living room can enhance accessibility and encourage frequent use.
Materials and Finishes
Selecting the right materials and finishes is essential for creating a cohesive indoor-outdoor pool design. Natural stone, glass, and wood are popular choices that blend well with both indoor and outdoor environments. These materials not only provide durability but also contribute to the aesthetic continuity of the space.
Climate Control
Maintaining a comfortable temperature is vital for an indoor-outdoor pool. Incorporating climate control features such as heating systems, dehumidifiers, and ventilation can ensure a pleasant swimming environment regardless of the weather outside. Advanced climate control systems can be seamlessly integrated into the design to maintain the desired temperature and humidity levels.
Lighting and Ambiance
Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the ambiance of an indoor-outdoor pool. LED lighting, underwater lights, and strategically placed outdoor fixtures can create a magical atmosphere during evening swims. Additionally, natural lighting through skylights or large windows enhances the overall experience by providing a connection to the outdoors.
Innovative Features to Consider
Retractable Roofs and Walls
One of the standout features of modern indoor-outdoor pools is the retractable roof or wall. This feature allows you to open up the pool area completely to the outdoors or enclose it as needed. Retractable roofs provide flexibility, enabling you to enjoy the pool in any weather while also protecting it from debris and maintaining water quality.
Infinity Edges
Infinity edges, also known as vanishing edges, create a visual effect where the water appears to extend indefinitely into the horizon. This feature is particularly striking in indoor-outdoor pools, as it enhances the seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Infinity edges can be designed to blend with natural landscapes, offering breathtaking views and a luxurious feel.
Waterfalls and Fountains
Incorporating waterfalls and fountains into your indoor-outdoor pool design can elevate the aesthetic and auditory experience. The soothing sound of flowing water adds to the tranquility of the space, while the visual appeal of waterfalls and fountains enhances the overall design. These features can be customized to suit the style of your pool, from modern and minimalist to natural and rustic.
Integrated Spas and Hot Tubs
For an added touch of luxury, consider integrating a spa or hot tub into your indoor-outdoor pool design. Spas and hot tubs provide a relaxing retreat and can be used year-round, offering therapeutic benefits such as muscle relaxation and improved circulation. The integration of these features allows for a cohesive design and maximizes the functionality of the pool area.
Inspiration for Indoor Outdoor Pool Designs
Modern Minimalist Designs
Modern minimalist indoor-outdoor pools focus on clean lines, neutral colors, and a clutter-free aesthetic. These designs often incorporate large glass walls, sleek materials, and minimalistic furnishings to create a sophisticated and contemporary look. The emphasis is on simplicity and functionality, providing a serene environment for relaxation and recreation.
Natural and Rustic Designs
For those who prefer a more natural and rustic look, incorporating elements such as natural stone, wood, and lush greenery can create a harmonious indoor-outdoor pool design. These designs blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, offering a tranquil and organic feel. Features such as rock waterfalls, stone pathways, and wooden decks enhance the connection to nature.
Tropical Paradise Designs
Creating a tropical paradise with your indoor-outdoor pool can transport you to a luxurious resort-like setting. Tropical plants, vibrant colors, and exotic materials such as bamboo and thatch can be used to achieve this look. Incorporating features like a swim-up bar, thatched cabanas, and lush landscaping adds to the tropical ambiance, making your pool area a true oasis.
Urban Chic Designs
Urban chic indoor outdoor pool designs are perfect for city dwellers looking to create a stylish retreat. These designs often feature modern materials, bold colors, and innovative lighting to create a dynamic and trendy space. Rooftop pools with panoramic city views, sleek outdoor furniture, and contemporary art installations are common elements in urban chic designs.
Conclusion
Indoor outdoor pool designs offer a unique and luxurious swimming experience that can be enjoyed year-round. By carefully considering the location, materials, climate control, and innovative features, you can create a seamless transition between your indoor and outdoor spaces. Whether you prefer a modern minimalist, natural rustic, tropical paradise, or urban chic design, the possibilities are endless for creating a stunning indoor-outdoor pool. Embrace the beauty and functionality of these designs to enhance your property and lifestyle.
