#polyamory would fix them

Post-Wishmaker Lukadrinette's dynamic is so insane.

Luka was in a weird not-entirely-platonic not-entirely-romantic not-sexual situationship with Marinette, and then she broke it off because she has a very big secret and doesn't want to hide it from him. He thinks, "Oh, alright, she isn't with me right now, but if i find out her secret, we can get back to our weird situationship.

He also knows Adrien's hiding something and that's why they never started. He assumes it's just got to do with his fucked up home life, and maybe he'll get a chance once he's started properly healing.

Then Wishmaker comes along, and when Luka figures out that Marinette is Ladybug, he starts putting two and two together. He thinks he has a chance again.

Then he finds out Adrien is Chat Noir, and all hope goes right out the window. "Oh, so the two people I show romantic interest towards are actually in love and magically destined to be together. Wow, that seems fair."

Then he starts hallucinating that they're transformed and has to move to fucking Tibet. But at least he's got cool powers now that he's back.

I rarely subscribe to the "polyamory would have saved them" ideas because they usually oversimplify things but I have a possibly controversial one I would like to propose that would have fixed literally everything (assuming societal acceptance of polyamory in this AU): Matthew/Mary/Lavinia from Downton Abbey

Like Mary wants to hate Lavinia and Mary's whole family wants hate Lavinia but like...they can't. She's nice. And Mary really likes her the more they talk. She's one of the few female people Mary talks to that she isn't a) related to and b) the boss of. While she has the most emotional motivation to join in in the jokes about Lavinia's appearance and comments the rest of the family is making about her, she never does. And Mary is clearly willing to go there with no provocation if she feels the whim (see: Edith minding her own business). Lavinia also really trusts Mary, even though she has a lot of reasons why she absolutely shouldn't: she knows just how much of a scumbag Mary's fiance Richard Carlisle is first hand, she knows the whole Crawley family wanted Mary and Matthew to get married. Lavinia shouldn't trust anyone in the house, and Mary least of all, but she does, and Mary genuinely doesn't mind. And one of the reasons Mary can't hate Lavinia is that she and Matthew do genuinely care for each other.

And then Mary and Matthew are...Mary and Matthew.

So, it works. Every potential pairing checks out, so polyamory really would have saved everyone a lot of time. And given that Matthew thinks Lavinia died because she thought she would shut out after seeing Mary and Matthew dancing...it might literally have saved Lavinia from the Spanish flu.

OK so I just added this movie to my list of "Hugh Dancy movies to watch". A lot of his filmography is not really in my favored genres (Mads's movies more so - I can't wait for Black Kaiser because I loved Polar; and omg I just saw he did a horror movie called Dust Bunny with Byran Fuller which sounds like fun?!), and going by the synopsys on IMDB I had suspected this one wasn't either, but uh... yeah this makes me want to watch it. I'll keep my tissues handy, I guess...

A lot of people turn to what they view as some sort of "swinging" or "opening up the relationship" to try fix their relationships, and they may be exposed to polyamory through their hobbies. That's my theory!

I don't know why this keeps happening but I keep meeting toxic heterosexual couples who experiment with polyamory and are heavily into funko pops, board games, Disney princesses and Burlesque stripping and the man is always a withdrawn bearded dude and the woman is always a passive aggressive control freak with an Etsy shop that sells lawn gnomes styled after Dr Who characters and they don't really even seem to like each other but they're always exactly the same. this has happened four times
