An appreciation of Jeremy Paxman.
Tumblr media
A quick visit to his old school, and his time at Cambridge University.
The journalist training in Brighton, then to Belfast and other troublespots.
Tumblr media
Newsnight is going to be his best-remembered programme, Paxman redefined the political interview as a hostile, aggressive experience, producing more heat than light. He's also written some books.
For this blog, Jeremy Paxman will be remembered as the host of University Challenge.
Tumblr media
For almost thirty years, great student minds have pitted their wits against questions from his mouth. He's worked gently to make the show more inclusive - welcome women, steer the questions towards minorities and groups under-represented on mainstream telly.
And now, while the mind remains sharp, Paxman's body has begun to let him down. He feels it's time to get off the stage, which is terribly sad, and an excuse to pay tribute to a television legend.

Jesus was a brown-skinned, Middle Eastern man, who spent his early childhood as a refugee. He spent his life telling people to give all their belongings to the poor. If he knocked on the door of many Republicans, they would get one of their guns and shoot him in the face.

BOOM!!! President Trump DESTROYS NBC’s Kristen Welker in a 1-Hour 16-Minute Masterclass!
President Trump sat down with NBC’s Kristen Welker, and what unfolded was nothing short of monumental. Over the course of 1 hour and 16 minutes, Trump dismantled her arguments, exposed her hypocrisy, and delivered a masterclass in leadership.
Kristen Welker Exposed!
Welker didn’t come prepared for Trump’s brilliance. She condescended, attempted to spin narratives, and failed miserably at making her points. At one moment, she tried to push for raising the minimum wage, and Trump calmly educated her on basic economics.
Manipulating the Constitution?
In an embarrassing moment, Welker deceptively edited the 14th Amendment, conveniently omitting the critical phrase “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” while discussing birthright citizenship. Trump, unphased, reminded her of what the Constitution actually says.
On Obamacare: Trump explained that although he wanted to repeal and replace it, he still ran it better than anyone else could have to ensure the country stayed afloat. Welker couldn’t grasp the point, proving once again she’s out of her depth.
Double Standards Galore:
Welker lectured Trump about the “weight of his words” while completely ignoring Biden’s open threats against Trump, claiming Biden wasn’t involved in Trump’s legal persecution. The hypocrisy was glaring.
January 6th and Media Hypocrisy:
Welker turned the conversation to Jan. 6, attempting to corner Trump. But his calm and collected response shamed not just her but the entire mainstream media for their biased narrative.
Vaccines and Autism:
Welker contradicted her own network by claiming autism rates haven’t risen, attributing it to improved diagnoses. Yet NBC itself admitted diagnosis improvements don’t fully explain the surge. Trump caught her in the lie.
Trump OWNS Welker:
Trump brilliantly turned the tables, pointing out the corruption in the DOJ and FBI, which operate as rogue agencies serving the elite, not the people. He outlined the proper way to hold them accountable—through Congress and lawful investigations.
This wasn’t just an interview. It was a declaration of dominance by Trump. While the media flounders in bias and lies, Trump continues to expose the truth with clarity and strength. The tide is turning. The storm is here.
We’ve waited for years… and now it’s here. The Deep State’s downfall has begun, and nothing can stop it now.
It's about to get real 🤔

Hillary Clinton on Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris:
“The fact that it happened right after the debate and just added to Kamala’s momentum must have just set them all off. Taylor Swift brings an unusual impact to an endorsement. Her fanbase is so intense and incredibly influenced by her. She’s a singer who charts the course of her life which they relate to as their own lives, but she’s also someone who stood up to a guy who groped her and stood up to get her music back from someone she thought had illegitimately had taken it from her. She has demonstrated a resilience in taking control over her own life that sends a strong message. I’m a huge admirer. I think [her endorsement] has real impact.” (Via: On with Kara Swisher Podcast)

Because Star Wars has had the cultural impact that it has, these characters almost become public domain, where people feel a sense of ownership over them. The character was criticised, my performance was criticised, and that part sucked. But I also felt like I had some context that perhaps helped a little bit. When Episode I came out, there was a lot of excitement that they were making a new Star Wars, and it was going to be the backstory of Darth Vader. But I had friends that were upset that the character was starting off as this young kid. And I watched the film, and I loved it. It was everything I wanted and more. And I didn’t understand the disconnect between the movie that I saw, and the negativity in some of the reviews. In a way that sort of criticism, I think, comes from a certain failure of their own suspension of disbelief. If you’re gonna go sit in a theatre, and the opening scroll starts with, “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away”, that’s setting the stage that anything is possible. These people don’t need to sound and behave the way that we might expect. And if you’re going to sit down and think that you’re getting something that is of our current zeitgeist, then you’re setting yourself up for something else. You know what I mean?

Been listening to books about the Salem witch trials and it’s so weird to me that there’s this prevailing narrative where people think of Salem as “oh they were deluded primitive folk who believed in witchcraft lol” when there are contemporary documents where prominent people said the accusers and the court (which hadn’t followed standard legal procedures even for that time) were committing crimes so grievous it would forever be a stain on New England

since most vampires if not all are multilingual i think it would be fun if they wouldn't be up-to-date with the modern way of speaking/version of specific languages (except their main ones like french and english or whatever)
with some of the languages they are stuck with the version they used to speak when they lived in those specific places at those specific times (which could mean that the language changed fully and they can barely understand/remember it or that they just sound stupid as hell while talking)
like yes, i know that armand knows italian and could probably still understand modern italian (if we ignore some specific slangs/dialects) but i need him to speak la lingua volgare like he's in the 1300's/1500's in a boccaccio/dante/petrarca kind of way
