This is a good question and people in the notes have some interesting ideas. But my personal take is that is must be about Order. Capital O Order as a social virtue. This raises the interesting question: Why are people interested in Order?
I think there are probably several different answers that are all partially true and partially just made up explanations of how people work.
If we look at things from a biological group animal behavior lens: not having a group with established Order and power is a situation that can lead to serious violence and group fragmentation. It's probably a bad survival strategy to *always* want to be in low hierarchy groups only.
But from more of a human lens, chaotic social systems suck. They suck really bad. There's huge mental taxes to reorienting around whoever has power today, and what today's group norms are. There might be a lot of stress around things like: Will my business fail? Will I still have a job next week? Will I be able to feed my kids?
The Weimar republic does not sound like a good time at all for most people living though it. And I can see why the people there would want it to end. And I can imagine if you told many of them that Hitler would successfully end a lot of that chaos and make Germany great that even more people would have voted for him. Not that Nazi Germany is preferable with the benefit of hindsight, but that people in a shit chaotic situation will probably be willing to try lots of things without knowing what the outcomes might be.
I think what puzzles me, and perhaps always will, is the appeal of the dictatorship to people outside of it.
"Joseph Smith is God's Prophet and he gets to do whatever he wants and have sex with whoever he wants" or "Adolph Hitler is the supreme ruler of Germany and all of his decisions are correct and nobody every gets to contradict him ever" are pretty obviously appealing to Smith and Hitler, but I'm profoundly confused about what other people find inspiring about that idea.

OP How has Umer been as of recent? We send our sincerest regards of concerns to you both.
Tumblr media
He has become a firm believer of sleeping your problems off. "Everything's fine", he says as he laughs a little too hard. Domestic Pakistani politics have been a joke recently =_= and it doesn't help that climate change has begun to rear its ugly head in Pakistan :( , This last year has been particularly tough and unkind to Pakistanis. Inflation in particular, has me seeing tears :') I've gotten plenty of asks in the last few months asking if Umer and Mun were okay and I'm fine! Thank you so much for asking! To all the people who dropped by to check up on how i was doing, i appreciate your concerns a lot and you've got no idea how touched i was while reading those. <3
[FUNFACT]: "Khes" is the name of the thin cotton blanket that's wrapped around Umer. It's a piece of textile that derives its origin from Rural Punjab :D

Scary News
Humanity is in danger of crossing the point of no return for five of Earth’s natural systems because of human-caused climate change, according to a new study from an international team of more than 200 researchers. The collapse of Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, widespread coral reef die-offs in warm water, disruption of the North Atlantic subpolar gyre circulation, and the abrupt thawing of permafrost regions are all in danger of being irreversibly crossed at 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming. Global temperatures have already risen between 1.1 and 1.3 degrees. “Tipping points in the Earth system pose threats of a magnitude never faced by humanity,” Tim Lenton said, lead author of the Global Tipping Points report. “They can trigger devastating domino effects, including the loss of whole ecosystems and capacity to grow staple crops, with societal impacts including mass displacement, political instability and financial collapse.” Lenton added that the report is a “tale of two future paths for humanity. We’ve basically left it too late for incremental action. Instead, we need to find and trigger what we’re calling some positive tipping points that accelerate action down an alternative pathway.”

Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, the world’s most prolific liars now have plausible deniability for real world events people painstakingly documented. Politicians around the globe have been swatting away potentially damming pieces of evidence - grainy video footage of hotel trysts, voice recordings attacking political opponents - by dismissing them as AI generated fakes. Adding to the confusion, actual AI disinformation is flooding the internet, making it even harder to understand reality.

A Resolute Voice in the Midst of Upheaval: José María Vargas and the Revolution of Reforms, 1835
The political landscape of Venezuela in the early 19th century was marked by profound instability, ideological clashes, and efforts to define the country’s path after independence. The Revolution of Reforms, which erupted in 1835, exemplified these struggles, pitting conservative elements against liberal ideals. At the heart of this conflict was José María Vargas, a physician and academic turned president, whose presidency symbolized the aspirations of a civilian-led government. His confrontation with Pedro Carujo, a military leader and revolutionary, became emblematic of the tensions between civil authority and military power.
On June 7, 1835, the insurrection began in Maracaibo, proclaiming the federal system and General Santiago Mariño as the leader of the armed movement. Although this uprising failed, it was only the beginning of the revolt across the country. On July 8, 1835, Pedro Carujo and his followers stormed the presidential residence in Caracas, initiating a coup to overthrow Vargas. What followed was an extraordinary exchange that has been immortalized in Venezuelan history. When confronted with the rebellion, Vargas responded with words that underscored his unwavering commitment to constitutional order and republican values. Below is an excerpt from their dialogue:
Carujo: "Mr. Vargas, the world belongs to the brave."
Vargas: "No, the world belongs to the just man. It is the man of good, and not the brave, who has always lived and will ever live happily on earth and secure in his conscience."
This exchange encapsulates Vargas’s determination to uphold the rule of law in the face of armed insurrection. Carujo, a proponent of military intervention in governance, sought to justify the coup as a corrective measure against perceived mismanagement by Vargas’s administration. However, Vargas’s refusal to relinquish authority under duress became a powerful statement of his belief in civilian supremacy.
The Revolution of Reforms was short-lived. Although Vargas was briefly forced into exile, loyalist forces, led by General José Antonio Páez, restored constitutional order within months. Vargas later chose to resign from the presidency, citing the moral toll of political life and the challenges of governing amidst such volatility.
Historical Context: The Revolution of Reforms reflected deeper divisions within Venezuelan society. The conservatives, often allied with the military, advocated for centralized authority and protection of traditional privileges. In contrast, Vargas’s administration, though moderate, represented a shift towards liberal governance, emphasizing education, civilian control, and legal equality. The coup’s failure underscored the resilience of republican ideals in the young nation, even as it grappled with enduring instability.
Vargas’s legacy remains that of a statesman committed to principle over power. His words to Carujo continue to resonate as a testament to the enduring struggle for democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela and beyond.

Though our mothers shall cry again
The walls are high
too high
we built them to the gods
from whom we no longer
warrant affection
in their absence we ran amok
outstripped our reason
ignored foreboding
took ourselves to the brink
and beyond
we have utterly destroyed ourselves
many times over
but the reset keeps getting struck
so we are back here now
polishing the advancement
Trying this again
Shall we shall we shall we not
Yes
But there could not be a better time
Than Now
The Living Now
Does not move, only seems
We pray for novelty
We dream it up
We make it up
But it is like eating sand
And telling ourselves it is spaghetti
How many times have we died
But between the moments our Kingdom
and Salvation
we may never truly fail
Though we teeter on the edge of Doom
Though the temporal pain is coming
Though we shall lose brothers
Though our mothers shall cry again
