Continuing thoughts on how Ghost and Soap's relationship has changed over the course of mw(19), mwii(22) and mwiii(23)

BEWARE SPOILERS TO MWIII(23) !

I've had time to settle my thoughts on Ghostsoap in mwiii (23) and this will go more into depth of the re-contextualising of Ghost and Soap's relationship in mwii (22) from the verdansk mission: "Flashpoint".

Flashpoint is set 4 years to mwiii(23). The game places it as April 6, 2019. This is important to us because it sets a different potential first mission (meet cute lmao) between the two and thus changes the tone of their interactions in mwii (22)

So let's set up a timeline with the available dates. Thankfully, the game sets some very concrete dates for us. Not all missions are included.*

2019

Flashpoint - April 06, 2019

First canonical appearance of SAS Ghost and Soap

So now that's done. I've mostly ignored Farah and Alex and focused on Price, Ghost, Gaz, Soap and Nikolai as it pertains to relationships within the core group of Price/Ghost/Gaz/Soap.

What can we make of this ?

Well, a couple things.

We can now say that from 2019 to the events of "Kill or Capture" in 2022, Ghost and Soap have most likely worked together on missions before. The timeline shows that they at least had to have met in Dec 2020 in Verdansk as Soap had called for backup to Price and group.

That makes it actually at least 3 years of knowledge of each other prior to mwii(22). So a total of 4 years + potentially at the start of mwiii(23).

It also shows us how quickly their relationship changed from the Alone mission in '22 despite the 3 years of prior knowledge they had since '19.

Let it be said that it took 1 week, ONLY 7 DAYS!! to change Ghost and Soap's relationship. 7 days out of a total at least 3 years total.

Ghost started at not even bothering to name Soap in 2019, to presumably basic Soap/Mactavish/sergeant for the next 3 years.

Cut to the events in mwii(22). Lets say beginning at "Kill or Capture" and finishing at "Alone" and suddenly Ghost ends up having made up his own personal nickname that no one else can use for Soap in just those 7 days.

I posit that this was in part due to "Kill or Capture" in '22 being the first mission that Soap has directly worked under Ghost's command.

This is all hypotheticals and guesswork so take it as you may.

Assuming Ghost was mainly a solo mission sort of guy, let's also assume he mostly helped as sniper overwatch if he ever had team missions (like in Flashpoint). Most 141 missions have him taking that position as well, so it's safe to say he is support most of the time.

Given that assumption, it's also likely that Soap and Ghost had to have interacted mainly on comms and any physical meeting would be restricted to transport via heli or otherwise.

It's possible Soap and Ghost have worked together on a more physical basis (aka Ghost leading Soap on a squad), but given how much Ghost seemed to be testing Soap in "Kill or Capture" I find that somewhat unlikely.

In 2019 we see how brusque Ghost is with Soap. It's very likely that Ghost was largely monosyllabic with Soap pre or post missions to Flashpoint.

Considering Soap's propensity to chatter in 2022 and 2023, it's also very likely Soap annoyed the hell out of Ghost on comms. Lol.

This could explain why Ghost was so dismissive of having Soap as his sergeant in "Kill or Capture", despite working together 3 years ago.

I, and arguably most of fandom had theorised that "Kill or Capture" was the first mission that Soap and Ghost ever had together. And we weren't quite right, but we weren't completely wrong either.

With Flashpoint, it's obvious now that was not quite true. It even suggests in it that Ghost and Soap had worked together prior to even that, as there was no formal introduction between the two.

This dramatically changes how Ghost's dialogue and Soap's to a lesser degree can be read in mwii(22) and implies much much more if you consider how they interact with each other in '23.

So why does it matter when Ghost and Soap's relationship started?

With mwiii(23) we can now definitively tell when Ghost and Soap's relationship changed. We now have a rough basis of a timeline and we can track down the differences between '19 -'22 and then '22- '23. Its important because we can see how their relationship deepens and how it changed within a span of 3 years, 7 compelling days and 1 heartwrenching year later.

For all that mwiii(23) was lax with explicit Ghostsoap moments, it's rich in how much context we gain to their relationship. We see how Ghost changes and how his relationships differ between 141. It's an interesting and compelling look at both Ghost and Soap's characters.

In this discussion I separate this analysis into 3 parts. Part 2 will cover the implications of "Flashpoint" on mwii (22), with discussion line by line. Part 3 will most likely go over comparisons a year makes from the events in '22 to '23. (This might be subject to change as I get further into the analysis)

One thing that I need to clear up for myself is how N progress through time. Like what does he do between bw to swsh/TBWS.

I know that unlike canon, he doesn't do his farewell speech, as he just witness his friend get attacked by Ghetsis' Hydreigon, literally bleeding out. I think due to that and just the entire shock and panic of the situation he just fled. Not out of malice! He was scared for Alexis and Elliot ( whom he didn't know where she was or if she was hurt but the fear was still there), but he just couldn't be there at the moment. He just couldn't. So he left. ( Heh, N and Alexis parallel there).

He constantly bash himself for leaving without knowing if his friends are okay, so throughout his 2 year journey, he didn't know if they were alive or not. Though, on the bright side, the 2 years away from Unova did help him reflect and recognize what he wants. Good new there!

In B2W2, he runs into Elliot and after some friction ( mostly from Elliot) he ends up getting adopted by the Jones. ....okay, no, that's not what happens, but they do let him stay in their house when he needs to sleep so he doesn't sleep in the wild...or on the streets. Elliot and N also team up, as Team Plasma is back and Elliot wants to kick their ass. N is....less than thrilled, but senses something in pain via Reshiram. So yeah he's gonna help. I like to believe that N has a bad habit of just going off on his own, causing Elliot to chase after him a lot ( grown ass man can't stay still for a second, Arceus-).

Now for some introspective, N is overjoyed that Elliot is alive and well, but is so heartbroken when he sees her left leg. Like, he can't help but feel like he was the one that caused all of this pain ( to which, in a sense, he kinda did, but it's also not his fault, you know?). He actually asks about Alexis, since he doesn't seem him anywhere, and Elliot hasn't mentioned him. So, good news, he lived the Hydreigon attack! Bad news, he ran away from the hospital and left Unova and no one knows where he is, so there's a 50/50 chance he could be dead. Fuck. It's even weirder with that he can't really sense Zekrom through Reshiram, so this just sends N into an internal panic and blaming of himself.

The rest plays out as B2W2 until Alexis comes to help and that just brings more emotions. I think N was never the one to initiate a hug until that moment. The joy and relief that his friend his alive ( maybe not okay, but still alive). He was legit gonna go for a hug until Elliot beat him and punched Alexis in the face. Then Cheren and Bianca came into the scene and just the look on Alexis' face kinda just....deterred him from doing anything else. Oh. And he gave Reshiram to Elliot, but that's for later.

Now, a little side tangent, I remember seeing headcanons that N eventually runs a daycare or becomes a daycare worker OR helps rescue abandoned and abused pokemon and I just love that I have those roles to everyone else except him lol. This poor man gets nothing.

Anyway, from B2W2 to SwSh/TBWS, it's a bit iffy. I'm not sure if N leaves Unova again in fear of making things worse ( completely misguided and anxiety filled assumption), and feels like he has so much to make up for all the wrongs he did. I think he travels Unova again, this time without the threat of Team Plasma revising. Though, and I just realize this, the man would probably be interrogated by the police? Cause he's connected to a terroist group? So, uh, that probably happens. Not a good time. But I think he's able to go free ( maybe house arrest for a bit? Idk. Ideas help), and THEN he travels Unova again. He gets to see all of his friends again :)

Outside of traveling, it's hard to tell what he does in terms of his relationship with the other characters. Cause the whole ordeal is a mess. No one is communicating and those that do communicate end up doing it wrong. He can speak to Cheren just fine, if not a bit akward, but he kinda has to dance around the fact that he wants to be friends with Alexis again cause from what Cheren's pokemon told him, things are tense. Elliot is easier ( she rants to him if she needs it) but it just hurts to see the twins be so distant. Their bond is what made N admire them after all. Finally Bianca, who is arguably the only one who knows her shit and acts by it. She already talked to Alexis about what happened, and while she's not going to try and force people to talk ( she believes that it's up to the people themselves to fix things, not an outside force), she's still kind and understanding to all sides. Bascically, she and N become bff's. They're both nerds and she's really pleasant to talk too :)

N thinks that Alexis doesn't even want to talk to him, let alone look at him. Which hurts, but he understands. It wasn't until Elliot once again forced N to sleep over at the Jones house was when the two talked. Not about literally everything that happened, but just. Talked. It was small, awkward ( Alexis still looked terrible), but it was a start. Soon it became apparent that the three were bascically siblings ( N loves affectionately bullying Elliot and Alexis. Mainly with his height. Especially with his height), and their relationship was getting better. It was no surprise that N eventually started to visit the daycare on route 3, when Alexis started working. He loves playing with the baby pokemon.

There's a lot more that could be said here ( like N's relationships with Eva and Wayne) but this is already so long. I just wanted to talk about Legendverse! N.

dhar manns videos on racism remind me of rwby. rwby is an american cartoon inspired by anime and they tried to teach racism with an allegory of animal-humans known as the faunus who are oppressed. a group called the white fang claims to be for faunus rights but in reality they murder faunus and act as terroists. some interpret them as an allegory for blm. but in season 5 Blake (a faunus) essentially tells the oppressed minorities that came to this place to avoid oppression that it’s their fault they’re oppressed because they aren’t nice to humans and don’t police themselves enough. thoughts?

I haven't seen RWBY personally, so I can't exactly form an opinion.

I’ve been reblogging some things about the terroists that stormed the Capital but I felt I also needed to say something about this.

It’s fucking disgraceful.

They trashed, hated, condemned and ridiculed the BLM movement over and over again because they were tired of the racism in this world. But this is their response to the Presidential election. They storm the Capital building, have a stand off with Capital Police, and scare the living hell out of so many people. They climb fences, yell at the law enforcement that had been called out to help contain them.

I read an article that a woman called them heroes, a man also bragged about how scared the workers must have been. Apparently, officials had to wear gas masks because tear gas was thrown and no one knows if the police threw it or the terrorists did.

And they are terrorists. They’re not just Trump Suppoters or protestors. They’re dangerous and armed terrorists. Not to mention that there was a woman who had been in critical condition, now dead because she was shot, the National Guard was activated, now there’s a Curfew in DC and there’s smaller protests going on in other Capitals around the US.

I can’t even describe the anger and fear that I felt when I read what happened. I just hope people are staying safe.

So in france police shot an 18y/o suspected of beheading his teacher for showing cartoons of Prof. Muhammad (nine others r arrested too). And Macron called the beheading as "Islamist terroist attack". What msg he is giving to his people??Just few weeks ago he even gave a speech about "rise of radical islam in france". Mark my words. Islamophobics gonna rise.

i think what happened with that teacher was absolutely horrific and it's important to call out any and all religious extremism. but i also remember reading somewhere that there already is widespread islamophobia in france... and this horrific incident will inevitably come back to haunt all muslims living there :/
