IM FUCKING DYING
They put Whitworth’s foot fetish in the show. I SCREAMED. I’m still SCREAMING. He is so disgusting! I didn’t imagine him quite so revolting in the book! His actions are TERRIBLE and the way he treats everyone is AWFUL especially Morwenna but he just went down 20 more points for THIS. God Debbie how DARE YOU. I want to wash my eyes out with salt.

Poldark is so infuriating. Every time I try to get on board with Ross and Demelza, Ross either says or does something so dismissive and insulting OR shares screen time with Elizabeth and I’m such a sucker for their angst and chemistry… it’s agonising.
Then he does the deed with Elizabeth and it’s so obvious how much he doesn’t deserve demelza. His excuses don’t justify what he did and even though he’s forgiven it’s tainted his relationships forever. And then that church scene with Elizabeth after agatha passes. I mean… what am I supposed to think here. A part of him will always love Elizabeth no matter what and it always gets in the way of his marriage.
Which is why Dwight x Caroline and Drake x Morwenna are so refreshing. Yes, there will be pain and suffering there too but at least it’s a two sided healthy bond without anyone feeling like a consolation prize.
#poldark#ross poldark#elizabeth warleggan#I’m still on s3 but I know the spoilers for the entire series#and the love triangles are just… such a mess#I’m sorry but Ross doesn’t deserve demelza at all#she should have left him#Poldark spoilers

Our Poldark Podcast Book Club “Dear Debbie” List for S3
One of the questions that was a recurring part of the podcast book club was where we said
Dear Debbie, I will be your fan forever if you include _________ in S3.
So, in order to keep our wish list at the front of our minds, here it is. We will update this as the season progresses to see just how many of our wishes come true. Should be an entertaining exercise.
Ahem.
Ross pinching Demelza’s bottom
Unwin’s visit to Caroline
Conversation between Ross and Demelza in bed
The toads in the pond and George & GC
Drake, Morwenna, GC introductions
Kitchen scene with Demelza and Caroline
Ross and Demelza’s discussion about the French war and evil
Tholly’s visit with Demelza
GC telling Drake Morwenna’s getting married
Jud drunken yelling at Clowence’s christening/DRUNK JUD (or some other villager) HECKLING CLOWANCE’S CHRISTENING!!!
George bartering over Morwenna’s dowrey
a beautiful scene in the book is Ross returning with Dwight and seeing Jeremy & Demelza and his thoughts of how lucky he is.
Caroline’s first conversation with Dwight on his return from France in S3.
Demelza saying that Caroline is half in love with ross and his response, also sultans harem would be a must even in his thoughts,
Also more of Ross being a good dad. :)
the table loaded with the “handsome meal” of boiled codfish with shrimp sauce, soup, venison, beef, mutton…damson tarts, syllabubs, and lemon puddings…Burgundy, Champagne, Madeira, sherry, and port in S3.
Caroline and Dwight in S3.
A FULL DWIGHT/CAROLINE SEX SCENE in S3!!!
discussion between Dwight and Caroline (page 29), their wedding and reception (page 30 to 33), and their first night together as a married couple (page 44 to 46) in S3.
a Geoffrey Charles and Drake reunion scene in S3.
sam going to the alehouse in search of Emma in s3.
Caroline and Dwight! I love them- I so enjoy Caroline’s frankness and the friendship/relationship they have with Ross and Demelza.
the visit from Hugh, and Ross and Demelza’s discussion post
the scene in the parlour where Demelza is removing fleas from Garrick and she and Ross discuss the invitation from Francis Gower
Ross, Dwight, Demelza and Caroline are riding to Tregothan and Caroline makes a quip about all the young women adoring Dwight.
Demelza in upgraded costumes for these dinner/ball scenes in S3.
the above-mentioned Emma and Drake scene in S3.
The conversation Caroline instigated with Dwight about their marriage
when Sam tells Emma he loves her
the conversation b/w Ross and Demelza about how she wishes she was two people
the message from Morwenna to Drake via Geoffrey Charles that she would never forget.
include Emma Tregirls in S3! I really do like her-she just seems very real, earthy-honest.
a return of S2 angrier/snarkier Demelza because of Ross’ inability to deal with their problems contrasted with Hugh’s poetry in S3.
Elizabeth and George’s discussion about jealousy and suspicion
Dinner party at Nampara including the discussion between Demelza and Francis Bassett
Hugh and Demelza trip to see the seals__ in S3.
Elizabeth finding her backbone in S3.
I am dreading that they will use the graveyard scene with Ross and Elizabeth as a “revenge” situation for Demelza. I do not like that idea.
Nor do I want to see the seal cave scene with Demelza and Armitage.
include Emma in dresses that actually reflect her book description and not some Ren Faire Wench reject nonsense like the 1970′s did in S3.
Rowella blackmailing the shit out of Ossie.
Morwenna’s confrontation with Ossie
Same as Michele. This will be such a powerful scene.
Ross having an intense visceral and emotional reaction finding Hugh’s poem in S3.
the dinner party announcement from Caroline that she is expecting a baby
the smile Morwenna gives Drake when she leaves church
discussion between Demelza and Ross when Hugh dies

I’m kinda stressing out about all the bts pics I’ve been seeing of S5 lately. There seems to be a massive emphasis on the new characters. I don’t understand why there are so many new characters, and subsequent plot lines, when there’s plenty of material to delve into in regards to the main cast. Really starting to worry it’s going to be a melodramatic, unbalanced shitshow like S3 was.
#poldark#soz for the negavity but am honestly stressing#look up the most recent daily mail Poldark article and you’ll see why - but warning there’s a massive spoiler#Debbie already showed us in S3 she can’t balance multiple plotlines if her life depended on it [sighs for all eternity]#pure speculation ofc

Thoughts on S3 of Poldark
In this essay I will... don’t even joke this is an actual essay
Warning: There is a full on RANT below this cut but above is a gif that I didn’t make but fully enjoy of a very beautiful man so here
1. HOLY SPOILERS SO DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED FOR S3 BOOK 6
2. THIS IS MY HUMBLE OPINION AND PERSONAL RANT! But please feel free to comment and everything I NEED to talk about this with people who understand haha
3. also language warning but if you follow me you should know that about me by now lol
SO. Poldark has taken over my life, I have gladly given my soul to Ross, I love the books and the show equally because I think they both offer different, but beautiful things. I am currently a little less than halfway through the seventh book, The Angry Tide, and I just finished watching the third season of the show. I am reading the books first because of spoilers yadda yadda yadda...
Up until the third season, I have fully supported the show and boasted about how well it was written and how they kept the timeline of the books and the integrity of the characters so well intact. I thought they did a fantastic job of it.
AND THEN HERE COMES SEASON THREE RUINING MY SOUL. WHAT I REPEAT WHAT was that last episode? I’m gonna get this little issue out of the way first. Sam Carne would not be a part of that attempted attack on the Warleggans. Despite what was done to his beloved brother, despite Drake almost dying by Warleggan orders, despite his anger and passionate heart, rioting and stealing, even with as due a cause as there could be, goes completely against every belief he holds so dear. It goes against his religion and his life. He would not have joined in on that and it made me so mad they put him at the front of the group like that. Like no.
And now, how to even put this all into words. I feel they’ve completely ruined Ross and Demelza’s relationship. Yes, I totally thought that when I read how Ross cheated with Elizabeth, I thought how are they going to get through this? But they did. But THIS! What they’ve done for shock factor? The changes in dialogue, attitude, reasoning? They’ve messed with the characters’ integrity just to break the audience’s hearts. They made it dramatic and soapy and I am so completely pissed.
Now, I want to make it clear that I do not condone cheating in anyway. I think it’s the worst possible thing that you could do to a person. When I read of Ross’ betrayal, it broke me, as I’m sure it did many many Poldark fans! I’m sure we’re all in the same boat here! And then watching it was just as bad. And Demelza’s betrayal is equally as awful. She knows exactly how it feels to be cheated on and she does it to Ross after all they’ve done to glue their marriage back together. I don’t know how they can do this to each other. But that’s another conversation completely, I am specifically talking about the books vs. the show.
In the series and the book, Ross’ betrayal, I believe, comes down to his feelings for Elizabeth. Whether they’re actually there or not, in that moment, he is protective, he’s possessive, he (feels he) can’t control himself, it comes down to love. In the books, Demelza’s betrayal also comes down to love. Though she says she loves Ross completely, that he has her heart, she feels deeply for Armitage (yes I hate him too but he is unfortunately a part of this conversation), and pities him and wants him to feel love. He has made it painfully clear to Demelza that he will only ever love her and he’s going blind and dying and she, with her huge heart, wants him to feel love. Therefore, the point of Ross’ and Demelza’s betrayals are about love. In the books.
NOW. These fuckers who wrote this show ruined that. They made it infinitely worse for the shock and drama factor and made it impossible for Demelza and Ross to come together again and have the relationship they’ve had in the past. For them to ever be together as they were, the show has made that unrealistic and unreal. They made them monsters. Ross says twice, “If you’re looking for this trait go look elsewhere.” He is so nasty to her. He says awful things to her, he ignores her, he tells her of Elizabeth in the graveyard (which he keeps a secret in the book. Should he do that, keep things from Demelza? No. But in the show, it becomes a big thing and blows out of proportion and makes Ross secretive and nasty to Demelza). HE DOES NOT DO THIS IN THE GODDAMN BOOK. Yes, he’s distant because he’s working with the militia and he’s so busy and Demelza understands that. She understands his attitudes, his thoughts, his moods, she understands his busy lifestyle and doesn’t blame him for it. She understood he was like this when she married him. Does she find out about Elizabeth? Yes. Is it a big thing? No. Because she trusts her husband. She trusts Ross’ to talk to him about her feelings for Armitage. There are no secret looks between her and Armitage! There is no singing to him! They, as husband and wife, understand what’s happening and talk about it. They have multiple, clear, conversations with no secrets. What else can they do (I propose this question as an unmarried human, but still, I think they handled this the best they can up until the act actually happens)?
I really can’t get over how nasty their dialogue is to each other. We all know they are an explosive couple, they have strong hearts and minds and they don’t back down, but in the books, they talk to each other and explain and forgive and understand. The writers of the show just gave them nasty, awful, unforgiving dialogue. They drive a wedge that wasn’t there and that is what changes Demelza’s integrity. Her actions in the book stem from love and affection, now in the show, she cheats on Armitage to get back at Ross for kissing Elizabeth in the graveyard. They’ve changed these characters so much, I don’t see how they can go back. I am disgusted!
And (side note) to have Demelza with Armitage while Ross thinks he’s going off to fight the French? Yeah, that was a low blow. But was it well done? I think so, yes. I think some of the things they’ve put in the show for the soapy factor, such as that, are well done. Adding Ross with the militia at all? I liked it. It was said over and over in the book he was taking charge of that but we never really got more info on it, so I liked that they added it. Also, I like how they added more with Morwenna and Drake- their sneaking off, their alone time, their little meetings after she marries. I thought that was well done.
But what I am going to remember from this season was how they did Ross and Demelza SO wrong. If I was Eleanor or Aidan, I would have been pissed I had to act their character this way. The writers have gone off from the books too much with this and I’m just disappointed because I held the writers in such high regard until now. Ugh.
Please comment and talk to me about this! I’d love to know other thoughts, again this is just a personal rant and how I feel about it. So feel free to contradict and let me know how you feel! But please keep in mind I’m only on season 3 and book 6 so please don’t spoil anything!

Respectfully disagree. Demelza was hurt and bitter so she hurt him back cause that's what most people do. Ross betrayed her with his former lover who's a costant elephant in their marriage. She was so scared for him to still love Elizabeth and he kind of prove her right.
Being cheated on is never justification for having your own affair, so I must disagree with you, Anonymous.
Have you read the books? Particularly Four Swans? Because when Demelza commits her indiscretion, a few years have passed since Ross committed his indiscretion with Elizabeth. Ross and Demelza had basically made up and moved on at this point. They even had another child. Ross and Elizabeth have nothing to do with each other at all. The “elephant” in their marriage is basically gone.
In 4 Swans, Demelza is slowly being “wooed” by Hugh Armitage, even though she repeatedly tells him no. He basically wears her down, which is an act of manipulation on his part, and this is something that I want to address in a longer post when I have the time to write it, because the psychology behind manipulation is complicated. Nobody is immune from being manipulated.
Hugh writes her poetry and she hides it from Ross, and she even acknowledges that this was wrong to keep things like this from him. He also plays upon her kind-heartedness and selflessness (again, more manipulation on his part) in his effort to wear her down to get what he wants, which is her. He is upfront about being in love with her. She says no. While she acknowledges that what Hugh is proposing is wrong and for her to agree to it is wrong, she also does things to poke the hornet’s nest, so to speak, like hiding the fact from her husband that another man is sending her love poems.
Keep in mind, I am referring to the novels in my answer. We have yet to see how the show handles this.
However, you bring up something I also want to address, which is the double standard here regarding infidelity.
Yes, Ross cheated. Yes, it was wrong for him to do so. I understand how he ended up doing what he did, but those reasons do not excuse his behavior. Neither do any reason that anyone could give to try and justify what Demelza did.
Suppose Ross hadn’t cheated, but Demelza still did? Since your rationale for her infidelity is no longer there in this hypothetical situation, is her affair with Hugh justified? And if so, then why does she get a pass?
To suggest that a man should be condemned for cheating but a woman is justified in cheating is sexist. It’s just as sexist as the conventional wisdom from back then that it was okay for a married man to have mistresses. It’s still cheating, even if society looks the other way. You made vows which included “forsaking all others”. Nowhere in there is there “forsaking all others, except….”
And if a partner’s cheating is always justification for someone to cheat on their own, then by that logic, doesn’t this mean that Ross would be justified in cheating on her again??? Or does this not apply when it is the man who is cheated on?
How does hurting someone you profess to love in retaliation for hurting you solve anything? How does that build back the trust that has been breached? It doesn’t. And I know this from experience, too. It only makes things worse. And what she did does hurt Ross.
She also had the opportunity to actually have her revenge with Captain Mac Neil, but in the end, she couldn’t go through with it. If she could not go through with it right after it happened, when the betrayal and the anger and the pain was still raw and fresh, why would she suddenly be able to have a revenge fling three years later after she and Ross have made up and moved on with their lives?
That is why I don’t buy the whole “well she’s justified because Ross cheated on her” defense.

My Wife, a missing moment fic by mmmuses, part 2
Happy Poldark Day, folks! Still working on this one, and will have one more part to complete. Should have that to you by next Sunday.
From Poldark 3.03, continued from here. Story request and gif by @poldarked-fangirl
~*~*~*~*
He reached for the laces of her bodice, sliding the ribbons free, reminding him of the first dress he ever helped her out of, so many years ago. He grinned, which earned him a gentle poke in his side. “What are you thinking of, Ross?”
“Oh, I imagine you can guess,” he chuckled, drawing the ribbons free and spreading her jacket open, revealing the lovely brocade stomacher beneath. He was happy she’d still found one of the purchases they’d made at Mistress Trelask’s before he’d left for France useful. “I believe, once the child has come and you’re ready for another jaunt into town, I should like to find some blue-green silk for a new party gown for you.” His grin broadened as her cheeks turned a lovely shade of pink. He slipped the pins on the stomacher free, running the tip of his index finger along the edge of her neckline, the skin of her breasts erupting in gooseflesh. He nuzzled his nose against hers. “I’ve a need to see you in that colour once again.”
She nipped his bottom lip when he drew back from the urgent kiss she’d pressed upon him. “Twill be several months before then--” He kissed her, sharp and quick, before levelling her a glance. “I would be most pleased to do so, my lover.”
Ross reached for the open lapels of her jacket when a sound from down the hall brought him short. “Our Jeremy?” he asked.
“Yes, Ross." Her eyes softened, taking a little of the sting away from her disappointed sigh. Tonight is the first night he’ll be in his room for the last few weeks, so I thought we might have some troubles.”
Ross covered her hands as she drew the fabric closed. “You’ve had him here with you whilst I’ve been away?” he asked softly.
She nodded, her eyes dark and warm. "Jeremy looks just like you when you are asleep." She drew her jacket closed. “I should go to him, just to settle him down.”
"Let me, Demelza," he murmured, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "As much as I should enjoy helping you from your garments, I dare say I might have a chance to finish the task when I return?"
"Oh yes," she sighed, kissing his jaw, the tip of her tongue running against the stubble before her teeth gave him a nip. "I'll be waiting," she whispered against his skin.
Ross couldn't restrain a groan from leaving his lips. "Temptress." She laughed throatily, nudging him towards the door with a gentle shove.
He adjusted his breeches as he moved down the hall towards Jeremy's room, shifting his focus towards his son. It had been Prudie's voice that had separated Ross and Demelza from their embrace in the yard, his annoyance turning to joy when he saw the lad peering around the maid's skirts. Jeremy had grown during his absence, or was that just his imagination? It had been hard to tell, since the boy had been shy around his father at supper, peeking and peering around his mother to watch him. His son's wariness had eased when they'd all relaxed by the fire, their bellies full and the day's excitement mellowed into contentment. Ross had been telling Demelza of his escape from the French when he'd caught Jeremy's dark eyes observing him with a trembling curiosity it made Ross bite the inside of his cheek to keep from grinning. Eventually, the boy had made his way from Demelza's side to Ross's, his little body leaning against his father's as they sat on the settle until he'd nodded off, his head in Ross's lap. Now, as Ross opened the door, he hoped the lad would not object to his father being the one to tend to him.
Ross was able to lock onto Jeremy's eyes the instant he entered the room, the light from the eight-hour candle Demelza had used reflected in his tears. "Son?" Ross asked, striding across the room to sit on the edge of the cot. Jeremy scrambled into his father's lap, his arms clamped around his neck. "What's this?" Ross said, stroking his hand down the boy's back.
"Miss Mama," he sobbed.
"I know, 'tis a big thing to ask you, to be in here all by your lonesome," Ross murmured, breathing in the boy's scent, his throat catching by how much he'd missed this. "What if I were to let Garrick stay with you tonight?" He smiled at the jolt of pleasure that raced through him, brought about merely by his son's gasp of delight.
"Oh, yes, Papa! Please?" Jeremy sat back, wiping his cheeks with the backs of his hands.
"Alright, then." Ross pressed a kiss on his son's temple. "Just this once." He shifted Jeremy back under his blankets and went to fetch the dog. Whilst Ross had long since lost the battle to keep the dog outside, he had been able to insist the beast remain downstairs in the kitchen. True to form, when Ross reached the room, the scent of yeast from tomorrow's bread spreading its sweet, homey tang through the air, he found Garrick, sitting at attention amidst his blankets. "I require your services, mongrel," he said, hands on his hips, humour removing the edge from his phrasing. "Care to accompany me to Master Jeremy's room?" The dog gave a quiet 'woof' and padded his way to Ross's side.
Moments later, Ross pushed open the door to his son's room, his heart warmed by the delight that spread its way across Jeremy's face as Garrick bounded across the room and into his cot. "Now, I've your promise that you will not stay up all night at play, son?" Ross asked.
"Yes, Papa, I promise," the boy squeaked, closing his eyes as the dog did his best to lick Jeremy's face clean. "Thank you, Papa." He held Garrick at bay and offered his lips for a kiss.
His heart too full to speak, Ross leant down to press his own against them. "Goodnight, lad."

Poldark Podcast Policy re: S3 Speculations, revised.
Hey folks -- you remember how we said we weren’t speculating on press reports about the show prior to the premiere? Well, now that the first episode has aired we are being deluged with questions asking for us to speculate about the rest of the season either a) based on a single episode; b) a trailer or two; and/or 3) MORE press reports, we need to state our thoughts about this so that it’s really, really crystal clear:
We don’t speculate about the series before the episode airs. The questions we ask you to consider and send us your thoughts about are all based on having viewed the episode in its entirety so that we can speak about what actually happened as opposed to what the media/fans/actors/fanfiction stories/this tweet/that blog/the person next door THINKS is going to happen. This is especially true about things that are spoilers for the series. We know, the books are out there, but until it airs on the BBC we will not discuss it. And trust us: you will know our opinions about what happens when the podcast airs.
All questions regarding speculations about the show being submitted to the ask box will be deleted.
