@spacedebris1993 There are two versions of Polarfront that differ in characterization and role, one for TF and the other for an original story.
Polarfront of Sonatus is a teacher for close combat fighting techniques at the capital city's Royal Guard Academy of the Diurnal Kingdom and the main characters' form teacher (one might even call him a sort of mentor figure). He is not a people person (anti-social, not shy), yet his teaching skills leave nothing to be desired and he's good at judging people.
This is the reason why he introduces the main characters to Om who is considered to be the Chosen One that will save Aether in the future. They accept them into their friend group and together they and other students from all across the planet search for a way to fight the corruption spreading from inside their planet's core where a parasite is absorbing its energy.
Since the Diurnal Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy, they need to present their plans in front of the parliament and the Luminescence (religious leader). It just happens that the current Luminescence, Searchmark, was once one of Polarfront's students and more or less his secret lover. They were both young and foolish and when Polarfront discovered that Searchmark had been dared by his friends to start dating their teacher, a relationship which lasted ten years, they broke up and Searchmark joined the royal guard. Now, circa 350 years later, they meet again and the now blind Searchmark recognizes Polarfront by his voice and they have a bittersweet reunion after the presentation.
Aetherians age differently and looking back at the age chart, it doesn't follow any rules nor does it make sense. But it can be used as an approximation to how age works for humans. Polarfront is about 470 years old now (equivalent to a 37 year old human) and Searchmark is 370 (35 year old human).
They have what they call a First Line of Defense type build: sturdy and strong armor protects their organs and their extremities are powerful enough to serve them well in battle. Most main characters are of this build, only Rhiza, one of the older students, is a Second Line of Defense type with a nimbler, more agile physique.
Their armor is fully customizable and represents their heritage, but the fabrics and how they wear them play a more important role in society. Sonatians wear cold colors in honor of their home city that is located in the far south of Aether (it's like a high tech cyberpunk Scandinavian city but on the southern hemisphere). First Line Defenders usually wear them on their shoulders, Second Line Defenders around their hips. If it's on one side, it has to be their dominant one, if it's on both sides then this person does not do manual work. It's different for Second Line Defenders where the placement on both sides means they are a fighter and on either side means they are not.
The general population only wears fabrics in public and it's easy to lie by moving the cape to a different position. The royal family and a select few nobles may wear capes in more than one color. Oops, I strayed too far from the subject. Back to Polarfront. His turquoise shawl is on his left side because he's a leftie.
Polarfront is also the founder of the Exercitus Crudelis ("cruel army", Rhiza suggested the title just for fun and they agreed, much to her dismay) that starts out as a small group of students who promote Aether's environmental protection program. After his death, Searchmark will leave the Luminacy and take over as their new leader, hellbent on avenging his death and slowly turning it into a specialized combat unit with only the original line-up remaining.
First drawing of him (2020)
#light of aether#oc stuff#polarfront#his proportions are ridiculous. big man with tiny t rex arms#sorry for the late reply#i still love how the metal blade was rendered. it almost looks like ice. very fitting

Antarctica
Arguably the most visually stunning bay in all Antarctica, Paradise Bay (also known as Paradise Harbor) is a good place to spot humpbacks and minke whales. Paradise Bay Antarctica Penguin Colony Icebergs.
The Southern Ocean encircles Antarctica, and its area is usually defined as extending from the edge of the continent (and its ice shelves) to the position of the ‘polar front’ separating it from the surrounding Pacific, Indian and South Atlantic Oceans.

This is as far from beautiful as possibly possible, buuut it’s science-y fun. I spent two evenings on Thalissic atmospheric circulations, based on my earlier musings about axial tilt, sun zenith and tectonic activity. These results are, in turn, the base for Thalissic climate daydreaming.
I used German terms, so maybe it’s a bit hard to read - the “ITC” is the innertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the “subtropischer Hochdruckgürtel” is the subtropical high-pressure belt, the “Polarfront” is the polar front, “H” is for “high” and “T” is for “low”. Look how far north and south the ITCZ wanders on this planet! I’m really excited to carve out the climate. :3

For Polarfrost: (22)How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? (21)Why do they get up in the morning? and (29) Do they usually live up to their own ideals?
Ohoho, yees! Polarfront was a good choice 'cause he has been on my mind lately. You didn't specify at which version these questions are directed so I'll take a guess and say TF? If not, you can tell me and I'll talk about his Light of Aether version.
21. Why do they get up in the morning?
As the first officer and second in command, it is his duty to manage the crew and keep track of their equipment. It's mentally taxing work that most of his colleagues hate doing but he does not let this deter him from doing his job. His greatest motivation is the desire to see the Decepticons rule over Cybertron. His best friend was wounded fatally in battle early on in the war and Polarfront swore he would not rest until victory was theirs.
But before he could ever set foot on Cybertron again, the experiments on board their ship break free and since he's one of the first to go investigate the incident, he dies :-( oh well.
22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them?
Polarfront is hardly ever jealous - there is simply no need to. But in those rare cases where it does show, his jealousy comes paired with bitterness and resignation, as he thinks that the subject of his jealousy has it better which means he has to make do with his situation. Though he doesn't resent anyone for it. Everyone is responsible for their own happiness/luck and who is he to deny them what little joy they can attain in this harsh reality.
29. Do they usually live up to their ideals?
He pretty much does (until he doesn't). Ideals are a goal one wants to reach ar one point in their life and he has set his own low on purpose. 'Be a decent person', 'do your job', 'have a little fun when you can' and so on.
#thanks for the ask!#spacedebris1993 asks#cyborg Pol is a teacher and he's white and blue almost like Azimuth lmao. I sense a pattern there#his bot design is too cool for a character that only gets mentioned once in Magnanima's logbook#he kinda looks like toothpase#oc stuff#my ocs#my art

Improving the relationship between humanity and the sea
The 3rd edition of Monaco Ocean Week, run from March 24-30, 2019, organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Government of Monaco and their partners; the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco, the Scientific Centre of Monaco and the Yacht Club of Monaco (YCM), to discuss the protection of our ocean, the largest ecosystem on Earth, for present and future generations.
Prince Albert II of Monaco is firmly committed to the preservation of our oceans to safeguard our life in the planet, following in the footsteps of visionary Prince Albert I, one of the founders of modern oceanography, and the first who understood the importance of the sea, and the need to improve the relationship between humanity and the ocean.
This unifying event reunited under one-roof scientists, experts, NGOs, and civil society representatives to discuss the issue of ocean protection.
On the agenda were topics addressing innovation, research, and development of a blue economy. The possibilities offered by biomimicry, the opportunities created by bioplastics, rethinking yachting of the future, pooling initiatives to curb and tackle plastic pollution more effectively, and developing a sustainable ocean economy are among the themes discussed during workshops and conferences.
A few ocean facts
71% if the percentage of the Earth’s surface occupied by the ocean
The average temperature of the oceans is 2ºC, about 39ºF
More than 97% of all our planet’s water is contained in the sea
The top ten feet of the ocean hold as much heat as our entire atmosphere
The average depth of the sea is more than 2.5 miles
The oceans provide 99 percent of the Earth’s living space – the most massive space in our universe known to be inhabited by living organisms
More than 90% of this habitat exists in the deep sea known as the abyss
Humans have explored less than 10% of this living space
80% of marine pollution comes from land-based resources
6.5 million tons of trash enters the world’s Ocean each year. 50% is long-lasting plastic that will drift for hundreds of years before degradation
90% of world international trade tonnage is transported by ship
40% of the world population lives in coastal areas.
7 out of 10 fish species are on the verge of depopulation
29% of fishery species are in the process of extinction
World opinion leaders reunited to save the ocean
Close to a hundred world opinion leaders from the scientific community and international organizations, as well as prominent autodidactic eminent figures passionate about the sea, were present during the Monaco Ocean Week. Below is a partial list.

Monaco Blue Initiative
The 10thedition of the Monaco Blue Initiative opened the Monaco Ocean Week on March 24-25, to analyze and highlight the possible synergies between the protection of the marine environment and socio-economic expansion. The primary objective is to improve the development of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) by increasing their efficacy and scope.
These sanctuaries appear to be one of the most appropriate solutions for protecting marine ecosystems from the devastation of human activities. Still, they are too few in number since they only represent 7.44% of the surface of the world’s oceans, so MPAs must be multiplied and better managed to protect marine biodiversity. Among the questions debated this year in the context of conservation and exploitation, were: how can we ensure the adequate protection of the marine environment beyond the Aichi targets; how does a coherent network of MPAs contribute to the protection of migratory species; and what economic value should be attached to MPAs.

Promoting understanding, awareness, and action
The screening of OCEANS the first film by OceanX took place on Thursday, March 28 at the Oceanographic Museum
. Ray Dalio, an American investor, and philanthropist who runs the Bridgewater Associates hedge fund founded OceanX, an entity keen to compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX regarding the exploration of the deep sea, the vast majority of which has yet to be explored.
A true odyssey through the most extensive and less explored habitat of the planet, the film examines several marine environments. Through 125 expeditions, 6000 hours of shooting underwater, four years of productions through 39 countries. From the littoral to the deepest abyss passing through the Poles or the coral reefs, the documentary unveils the untold stories of the most amazing creatures of the oceans, revealing the daily life of marine animals. Theater of all dangers, aquatic life illustrates perfectly the notion of the food chain, where each predator is prey. We are witness to a true epic, made of fights, rescues, elation and moments of poetry, exquisitely narrated by English actress Kate Winslet.

A glance on the Mediterranean
The Results of the first observation campaign for marine megafauna ever carried out across the whole Mediterranean Sea were presented on Wednesday, March 27 at the Yacht Club of Monaco.
This conference was dedicated to an exceptional initiative implemented by the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area: the ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative (ASI), in the presence of Prince Albert II, government representatives, international organizations and members of the Club Soroptimist of Monaco, partner of this event, and clubs in the area.
(Photo: Prince Albert II surrounded ( L to R) by Bernard Fautrier, Florence Descroix-Comanducci, Francoise Ragazzoni & Bernard d’Alessandri @ Michael Alesi)
Eighty people gathered for the presentation of the results of the first ASI observation campaign for marine megafauna (cetaceans, turtles, rays, sharks, seabirds), and plastic pollution ever conducted covering the entire Mediterranean Sea. During this campaign hundred, scientific observers from 20 Mediterranean countries made several tens of thousands of surveys on board eight small planes and six research vessels. This information will help to implement more useful measure for protecting Mediterranean Sea biodiversity but also encourage individual awareness of the need for urgent action at all levels, including on a day-to-day basis, by adopting responsible behavior. “It is time to act and put the preservation of biodiversity, that we are part of, at the heart of our initiatives!” strongly affirmed Florence Descroix-Comanducci, Executive Secretary of ACCOBAMS.
Urgent action to save the coral reefs
On Tuesday, March 26, during the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), they emphasized the need for immediate action to save the coral reefs from extinction.
The corals, essential habitats for marine biodiversity, are threatened with extinction by 2050. ICRI’s members, where Monaco is co-chair, alongside Australia and Indonesia until 2020, met for the first time in the Principality. This meeting aimed to establish priority action areas addressing one of the Aichi targets for coral reef preservation.
The event gathered 50 participants and enabled to emphasize the principal objectives of the ICRI action plan 2018-2020: 1) Development of recommendations for states members of the Biologic Diversity Convention concerning a new target for the preservation of the coral reefs from 2020. It responds to the urgency to act to save the reefs threatened in large scale towards 2050; 2) The production of a rapport on the state of health of coral reefs worldwide for 2020.
Educating the leaders of tomorrow on ocean preservation
Beyond Plastic Med passed on the baton on Tuesday, March 26, at restaurant Stars’N’Bars. Throughout the day, BeMed organizers hosted fun and interactive events for school children to make them aware of the extent of plastic pollution in our oceans and its consequences on Humankind and the environment.
Children mobilized for biodiversity on Wednesday, March 27, at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Youngsters from 7C at the Ecole des Révoires presented the educational marine site they have selected, located under the Oceanographic Museum, for its wealth in terms of biodiversity, the initial phases of creating the educational marine area and their “action for the sea” projects, in the presence of Prince Albert, Pierre Casiraghi, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Patrice Cellario and Isabelle Bonnal. The students had prepared posters with slogans such as Stop overfishing, No sea no life.
An educational marine area is a small coastal sea area managed in a participatory manner by primary school children, thus promoting the knowledge and protection of the marine environment by a young audience. The concept developed in the Marquesas Islands in 2012, was recently implemented in the Principality of Monaco.
Students on Ice
A photo competition was launched between secondary school students to win a trip to Antarctica, in the presence of Laurent Ballesta, photographer, diver, and marine biologist, on Tuesday, March 26, Lycée Technique et Hôtelier in Monaco
Every year, this contest reserved for Monegasque secondary school students offers two winners an opportunity to embark upon a trip to the other side of the world. This year, the destination is Antarctica departing during July 2019.
The two students who left in 2018 talked about their experience of their trip to those trying their luck for the voyage this summer.
Today’s Quote
“I hope for your help to explore and protect the wild ocean in ways that will restore the health and, in so doing, secure hope for humankind. Health to the ocean means health for us.”Sylvia Earle, Oceanographer
