National Clean Out Your Fridge Day
Excuse the pun, but the timing has never been riper to celebrate National Clean Out Your Fridge Day on November 15! This is the perfect opportunity to tackle that science experiment that’s been growing way in the back, there. Of course, ideally, we’d all clean out our fridges far more often than once a year, but let’s be real: Making it an annual occasion provides everyone with the reassurance that at least the horrendous situation with your roommate’s long-forgotten “homemade kombucha” will be rectified eventually, and marking it as a day on the national calendar gives you plenty of scope for getting passive aggressive in the preceding weeks.
History of National Clean Out Your Fridge Day
New technology means new problems. Ever since the first household refrigerator hit the market, consumers then became burdened with a new thing to deal with – cleaning it.
From 1911 to 1922, the technological advances of home refrigerators and refrigeration technologies increased at the rate of speed rivaled only by smartphones. It wasn’t until 1927 when GE produced the “Monitor Top,” a reference to the ironclad Civil War-era ship, the USS Monitor. This model alone sold over one million units.
It wasn’t until post-war America that separate freeze box units were created and used in addition to the typical refrigerator. And then, in the 1970s and 80s, further developments helped created a the combo model we usually see today.
Regardless of what kind of refrigerator they had over the years, everyone had the task of needing to clean it out. Whether its the moldy oranges, the brown bananas, or that milk you forgot about, cleaning a refrigerator is something that American’s over the past century can relate to.
There’s no clear information about how the Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day came about. The general consensus is that this day was started by the Whirlpool Corporation, and later became popular throughout the country.
It is believed that the company intended for the day to be celebrated on the third Wednesday of every month, but the day took a life of its own. Later Whirlpool celebrated a Clean Out Your Refrigerator Week, but the date had gotten stuck.
Cleaning out the refrigerator is a big task, and it’s only natural that people would push the chore aside. Having one day to do a big clean of the refrigerator is useful because it makes everyday cleaning easier.
Refrigerators are essential in the modern American household but are frequently ignored. They store all our food, and that’s why it is essential that they are cleaned regularly. If food is left to go bad in a refrigerator, the germs can spread and affect all the food stored in them.
A refrigerator that is too full also won’t work as efficiently and will use more electricity. Regularly throwing out food that has started to go bad or you’re not planning to eat goes a long way. Spills need to be cleaned up as they happen, and it’s a great time to check what you’ve stored away in the freezer section.
A cleaning session is a great opportunity to check how well your refrigerator is functioning and if it needs any servicing. With Clean Your Refrigerator Day right before the holidays, it’s the perfect opportunity to make sure that everything is ready before Thanksgiving!
National Clean Out Your Fridge Day timeline
1755 Artificial Refrigeration Begins
Scottish professor William Cullen used a pump to create a partial vacuum in the world’s first refrigeration machine
1854 First Ice-Making Machine
And it only took about a hundred more years for the phrase “on the rocks” to be ascribed to Scotch by bar staff
1911 First Household Refrigerator
Produced by General Electric, the design was based on one by a French Cistercian monk and physics teacher, Marcel Audiffren, and primarily designed to help GE sell electricity
1923 First Frigidaire
Founded by the folks who brought you General Motors, the brand became so popular that many Americans called any refrigerator by the name of the company
1940 First Freezer
The arrival of freezers large enough to make more than ice cubes revolutionized the frozen food industry
1995 The Idea is Born
The idea begins, possibly originating from the Whirlpool Corporation.
2000 The Day Starts to Appear Online
November 15 is to be labeled as Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, on e-cards and blogs.
2004 Whirlpool Partners with Glad Products
This union is to set up 4 to 10 April as Clean Your Refrigerator Week, but it doesn’t catch on.
2005 Chef Emeril Writes About the Day
This is the first time that Clean Your Refrigerator Day is acknowledged by the food industry.

Nobody likes to check for their precious turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich at lunch time and find it’s been chucked out with the furry pasta that was last touched last month. The trick to this part of celebrating National Clean Out Your Fridge Day is to give a series of increasingly escalating pieces of overwrought and deadly serious-sounding notice. You might print out a picture of a nuclear mushroom cloud and fix it to the fridge, writing, “days to National Clean Out Your Fridge Day,” and count it down on a daily basis. Send an office-wide email, cc’ing your boss. Or if it’s your roomies, send a series of group texts over the days before you do it.
Cleaning out a refrigerator can be hard work, so go on and lend a helping hand.
The chances are, if you’ve made a big enough deal out of it, that you might even have roped in some help for cleaning out the fridge by the time the big day rolls around. Wouldn’t it be so funny if game 5 was hella lore relevant out of nowhere?
Yes this is partially because I’m obsessed with them, but I noticed this running thing where all five of them at some point realize they’re getting played. Edgar is pretty much always saying it in every essence (golden ratio saying the philosopher’s stone is a sham, runaway calling out man in red, censer claiming Bai Ze is playing everyone, simple toad catching on to the whole hotel thing being a sham, house painter surviving the mycelium apocalypse and probably also being conscious of it before it got bad), Jose and Patricia being aware of metropolis being a sham in coa 5, Patricia with Maroon Crystal learning the land of Oz was built on lies, Kevin realizing hyla resort was some weird test thingie, Vera in Judith the dove figuring out the entire play is a lie to trap and hurt the actresses. All five of them have something where they learn everything is a lie and they’re getting played to try and get them hurt each other.
Bonus points for Censer’s entire beef with Bai Ze paralleling main lore and what happened to the Deross family. A paradise gets overrun by poachers and kill the leader of the paradise (the god of the mountain/Alice’s parents), someone loosely related to the poachers takes power (bai ze being related to the mirror demon/Orpheus’s dad helping with the poachers), and then censer’s main critique of Bai Ze is that 1. She shouldn’t get to have possession of the scroll because it doesn’t rightfully belong to her and 2. She’s ruining the mountain and what it was originally meant to be based on her own self righteous goals and hypocrisy. While censer wasn’t completely right with his beliefs about Bai Ze, it’s pretty applicable to Orpheus.

Day of Bullying Prevention/Blue Shirt Day
Bullying has been a growing problem in schools, especially in past years. While some consider hazing and the abuse that some children take in school to be a typical part of the adolescent experience, rising suicide rates and violence in school has led officials to start taking a hard, zero-tolerance stance on bullying.
If you were picked in school as a kid, or maybe it continued into your college and adult years, World Day Of Bullying Prevention is bringing attention to your plight, and the plight of others who experienced this incredibly difficult, and dangerous, part of many children’s lives.
History of Day Of Bullying Prevention
Bullying has existed probably as long as humans have, but in 2007 two young men by the names of David Shepherd and Travis Price decided that they’d simply had enough. On the first day of school, a day like any other as you may imagine, a student by the name of Jadrien Cota had made a vital error for a young boy starting off a school year. This mistake?
He’d worn a pink shirt. It took almost no time at all for a group of bullies to notice the color of his shirt, and they immediately started giving him a hard time about it. Observing this, David and Travis decided to take a stand. They went home and purchased 50 pink shirts and handed them out at school the next day, encouraging everyone to take a stand against bullying.
It didn’t take long for this practice to catch on and start to spread around the world, in 2008 Gordon Campbell, the Premier of British Columbia, proclaimed a provincial anti-bullying day. It continued to spread until 2012, when the United Nations took this celebration and pushed it one step further, turning it into an Anti-Bullying campaign on a global scale.
How to celebrate Day of Bullying Prevention
Taking a stand against bullying is, in part, an act of vigilance that starts at home. Think about the behaviors  you engage in and the light-hearted teasing you do with your co-workers, classmates, and friends. Is it possible that what you see as harmless is in fact being perceived as a damaging and malicious act?
Do you observe bullying going on around you? Stand up and tell the offender to stop and be a champion for the person being bullied. Spread information about what can happen as a result of bullying and be sure to really listen to your kids and friends if they’re complaining about how they’re treated in school. Bullying is a serious problem, and World Day of Bullying Prevention is our opportunity to take a stand against it and stomp it out.
Source
Blue Shirt Day
Blue Shirt Day, also known as World Day of Bullying Prevention, takes place on the first Monday of October each year, being the kickoff to National Bullying Prevention Month.  Students, schools, and community members wear blue shirts to highlight bullying prevention, and in solidarity with those who experience bullying in all its forms, such as cyberbullying, cruelty, racism, and homophobia. The color blue was chosen because in many cultures it is seen as bringing calmness and peace, as well as importance and confidence.
How to Observe Blue Shirt Day
Celebrate the day by wearing a blue shirt. Wear your own or order an official one.  Besides wearing a blue shirt, you could also wear blue pants, shoes, hats, and more. School administrators and faculty members can register their school for the day, as can community groups and businesses. Students can get more ideas for the day by using the online student participation toolkit.

Twelve.
They’d had twelve incredible days in paradise. White sands. Turquoise waters. Child-free resort. Swim-up bar.
The next day they went back to reality. Watching the dolphins playing in the bay, he sighed into his mojito.
“Everything okay, babe?” Patrick asked softly, and placing his hand comfortingly on David’s thigh.
“Huh? Yeah... Yep... It’s good,” David nodded, trying to convince himself.
“It’s been pretty magical.”
“I don’t want to leave…” David admitted.
Patrick squeezed his thigh, smiling at him. “We can come again.”
“I know.”
“Home is good too, right?”
David blinked slowly. “As long as I’m with you, babe.”
