Setting up a couple of scripts on my phone with an AI. I'm somewhat shocked this actually worked and gave me a solid, straight answer.
Question: Greetings Umbreon, what Pokemon should I keep in my aura today?

Oh if only you could hold it in your hand and really see how automaton-y it is! The body is like a yoyo shape with a yellow gap/indent separating the two distinct front and back plates that are connected with a few thin flaps, and the limbs are connected in the sockets. Hard to explain. Also the feet and legs have protruding bits like stacked stones. The effect is very subtle and cool in person.

i love using Pokémon cards in witchcraft
Pokemon each come with a lot of associations that they, in my opinion, make great symbols for magic
for example, last night i cast an abundance spell. in addition to other things, i used this Tropius card in my spell
Tumblr media
Tropius is a Pokemon who grows bunches of bananas from its neck, literally growing abundance from itself. this card in particular has a move that references growth of abundance. as a lifelong Pokemon fan, these associations with Tropius were already strong in my mind, so this was a useful symbol to me
another card i like to use is this Cleffa card
Tumblr media
i do most of my work with the moon or the stars, and the Cleffa line has a very strong association with both, as well as with cosmic magic in general. it’s shaped like a star, it came down from the moon and evolves with a Moon Stone, it dances under the full moon, heals with the moon’s energy, uses moonlight to fly— the list goes on with its connections to the moon, the night sky, and magic. this card in particular also looks like Cleffa is calling out to the night sky, or just celebrating it
having this card near me, holding onto it, or having it as a part of my altar help me feel a little more connected to the energies of the moon and stars. again, its a powerful symbol because of all the associations i attribute to it due to my lifelong connections with Pokemon
so, if you’re a witch and a huge Pokemon nerd like me, maybe try using a Pokemon card in a ritual sometime! pick one out that closely matches your intentions ((with thousands of cards, there’s bound to be some great matches)) and give it a shot!

What Am I Doing?
I’m combining witchcraft with the Pokémon games.
To start, I’m using the Pokémon Database as a reference and using primarily Gen 7 movesets, if a Pokémon comes in after Gen 7 Ill use the movesets from their generation. ~~~
Every day I work with a Pokémon they go up a level, they learn moves as usual and if leveling up is all they need for evolution they’ll evolve as usual.
For moves learnt from level one, if there's more than four moves available I'll roll four dice and pick them base of the numbers I role, if there's only one move I'll choose an egg move to balance it out.
For evolution that requires a level and trading, I just go with the level. If it requires trading but not a level I’ll double the level they evolved from or just go with the first two numbers of their Pokédex Number, excluding zero, if the trade is for the Pokémon’s second stage. If it requires an item at all I need to find something as close to the item as possible and use it with leveling up or on its own, I also have to safely dispose of the item once it's used to evolve my pokemon. And if i requires a specific place I’ll also try to find a location similar to it. Examples: - Trading, 3rd and/or Final Stage: Gastly evolves into Haunter at level 25, so Haunter evolves into Gengar at level 50. - Trading, 2nd and/or Final Stage: Phantump’s Pokédex Number is #708, so Phantump evolves into Trevenant at level 70. - Trading & Item, 3rd and/or Final Stage: Duskull evolves into Dusclops at level 37, so Dusclops evolves into Dusknoir at at least level 74 and when I have the real-world equivalent of a Reaper Cloth. - Trading & Item, 2nd and/or Final Stage: Onix’s Pokédex Number is #95, so Onix evolves into Steelix at at least level 95 and when I have the real-world equivalent of a Metal Coat. ~~~
My starter Pokémon is the one I get the choose, the rest of the Pokémon I add to my party will be the ones who, in a way, choose me. If I see something, or if something happens, I’ll take it as a possible sign and see if any Pokémon fit it I'll add them to the team, regardless of the Pokémon.

Guardian of Alola, a ward calling a Tapu of your choice for very potent protection
Guardian of Alola, a ward to protect yourself, your family and your home Items Needed:
A small statue or image representing the Tapu you wish to evoke Incense or herbs associated with protection (such as sage, lavender, or frankincense) A white candle A bowl of purified water Ritual Steps:
Find a quiet and peaceful space to perform the ritual without interruptions. Cleanse the space by burning the protection incense and allowing its smoke to purify the area.
Place the statue or image at the center of your altar. Surround it with the other items you have gathered, arranging them in a respectful way
Light the white candle, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths to center yourself. Call upon your chosen Tapu with reverence, speaking from your heart.
Dip your fingers into the bowl of purified water and sprinkle it around the altar 5. Recite a prayer respectfully asking your chosen Tapu for its protective blessings. speak from the heart and watch out for signs of the prayer being heard
Express your gratitude to the Tapu for its presence and protection. Blow out the candle to symbolize the end of the ritual, but keep the energy of the Tapu's protection alive in your heart and mind.
Results: ever since i've done the ritual, nasty spirits that once haunted and taunted me no longer can even enter my house, my family and i have been recovering from the effects of negative energies and have noticed astral stains in the general vicinity of my home that indicate that curses are being sent back to the sender or unraveled too, i recommend calling upon Tapu Koko during this ritual since he is also a war god and thus according to my experiences the ritual's lent extra potency

Every fan in the world agrees that the eggs just spawn to not include in the game for children that their pocket monsters fuck like animals.
I personally like the interpretation that Arceus (Pokémon God) quite literally magicks the eggs into existence.
Until this past year I'd never actually played any of the Pokemon games except for Pokemon Go and now I've played some and apparently the eggs in Pokemon aren't *actual* eggs, they're just something that shows up when two Pokemon are left alone together and may actually be incubators rather than eggs
now
this is stupid as fuck
and I am officially declaring a change to the Pokemon canon where the eggs in fact ARE eggs, all Pokemon lay eggs, any mammalian Pokemon is a monotreme, even the ones that are clearly marsupials, they all lay eggs
not only do they lay eggs, but they form nests
please imagine a Meowth delicately sitting on some eggs in its Meowth nest
that is all
thank you

Magical Girl Noel!
Tumblr media
The main protagonist of Noel and the Tower of Doom and a pseudo self insert character. She used to be a human boy named Noah, but was transformed into a female alfar (fairy, or elf depending on how you look at it) when the incursion happened and fused the world of man with the world of magick. This caused Noel's male, human self on the human side to merge with his female alfar "other self" on the magick side, and since the Noel on the other side was her "true form" her new combined form mainly took physical characteristics from her female alfar self. Turns out Noel was a trans girl this entire time, and is rather happy with the transformation.
Sterling Snow, leader of the American branch of O.P.T.I.C. (Occultic, Paranormal, and Temporal Intelligence Commanders), a secret UN-run organization that manages and investigates supernatural, paranormal, and temporal anomalies, fills in Noel on what is happening, and brings Noel along for her journey into the Enochian Pillar Fornax-3, the first of many enochian pillars that have to be disabled in order to stop the false one's plans. On her journey Noel also recruits her younger brother Goliath, a once bedridden, sickly young man who was transformed into a muscular and well-trained frost dwarf, and Zed, a mysterious masked swordswoman with an even more mysterious past.
Eventually Noel and the gang begin taking out the False One's delusional beasts, the guardians of the tower, and learn more about Zed's dark past. It turns out Zed was actually from a previously destroyed starsphere named Olgard, and was actually acquainted with Seraphim Kairos, though they were not on good terms at all. It turns out Zed was actually a projection of the false one's powers taking the form of Zed based on Seraphim Kairos' darkest fears, and was an unknowing spy and sleeper agent for the false one. Eventually Zed is released from the false one's control thanks to Kairos' intervention, and the team continues up Fornax-3.
In one timeline, the team reach the top of the tower and defeat the administrator of the tower, a wizard-like delusional beast known as Magistrate. Magistrate calls on the power of Archon Eos to transform into his ultimate form Magus-Eos, but is defeated. The tower is then disabled and soon after self-destructed by bombs Sterling's O.P.T.I.C. team placed on the parameter of the tower. Everyone seems to be falling to their deaths but at the last minute Noel learns to fly with her wings she's had this entire time and saves everyone. The team then travel across the world disabling the Enochian Pillars across America, and assist the other groups of heroes in defeating the false one once and for all.
In another timeline, Noel and her allies are able to disable all the Enochian Pillars worldwide thanks to disarming the "central dogma", the psychic battery powering all the enochian pillars across the planet. This central dogma is actually alive and is in reality the Pokemon Mewtwo, who the team defeat in his corrupted form. Mewtwo thanks the party before using his powers to disable all the enochian pillars worldwide, and leaves to his own starsphere of Arkus. While on this journey to the central dogma Zed, Goliath, and Starling confront their pasts and their fears and ascend, becoming ever stronger in preparation for the final battle against the False One.

my girlfriend really wants a game that is "crunchy" about how you build a whole character, ie. having "mechanics" for the fantasy of said characters. an example would be spheres for pathfinder or 5e. we're just looking for other ideas! we both love pbta and we both love 5e, but sometimes you want to chew on the system a little.
THEME: Mechanically Dense Characters
Alright, so let’s see what I can recommend that I haven’t recommended a lot yet. I’m going to try and approach this with a few different genres, as well as a few different systems. There will also be links to related rec posts at the end!

Into the Black, by Monkey’s Paw Games.
INTO THE BLACK is a sci-fi roleplaying game where one or more players take on the role of Management and presents a futuristic universe of corporate oppression and class warfare, while others take on the role of Freelancers and create characters to struggle and survive in that universe. Players must navigate and explore a strange and wondrous galaxy while deeply indebted to an interstellar corporation. Life among the stars, then, is about treading the razor's edge of struggling for survival and finding joy and love where one can.
Into the Black is built on the Into the Odd rules system, created by Chris McDowell. This places it into the OSR family of games. Now, OSR games are typically pretty lethal at low levels, and Into the Black is no different, but I know that 5E has the same kind of problem, to the point that many people will skip first level altogether.
In Into the Black, your character starts with an occupation, a background, randomly rolled abilities, and some gear. Once you advance to your first level, you take one of two classes, and customize from there. Technicians learn new occupations while Specialists take on new Kinesis Abilities, which are paranormal abilities that fit the space setting. You’ll chew through characters pretty quickly here, but I think that finding a character that does survive past the first few levels might be akin to a Nuzlocke run in a Pokemon game - you care a lot about the person who survives past a certain point, and your investment will help you generate this character’s thoughts, feelings and reactions in the game.
Gubat Banwa, by Makapatag.
GUBAT BANWA is a Martial Arts Tactics and War Drama Tabletop RPG where you play as martial artists poised to change the world: Kadungganan: the cavalry, the wandering swordsmen, the tide turners, the knights-errant, the ones to call in darkest night in a world inspired and centering Southeast Asian folklore.
Witness, grand warriors, honorable gallants that trudge and toil under kings and haloes. Witness, KADUNGGANAN, that refulgent name. That blasted name: WITNESS NOW. The end of days is upon us: and the new world MUST BE BORN. Bear your blades, incant your magicks. Cut open your tomorrow from the womb of violence. Inscribe your name upon the very akasha of this world.
There are plenty of mechanics to immerse yourself in when it comes to the Kadungganan of Gubat Banwa. You have a homeland, a social class, defining life events, a profession, a religion, and a specialization. These choices give you pieces of your backstory, but they also give you skills. You’ll also choose a Discipline, a martial art that your character is currently practising, which defines your character’s philosophy and the way they carry themself into battle. Various cultures have collections of different disciplines, with each flavour receiving special abilities, as well as thematic advice on how they present themselves in battle. If you like games that give you extremely cool abilities and badass weaponry, and tie everything in your character to integral pieces of the setting, then Gubat Banwa is for you.
Neon Nights, by EfanGamez.
In Jeriko City, everybody wants to be somebody. Who do you wanna be?
Neon Nights is a cyberpunk/dystopian tabletop RPG set on Earth after a nuclear war devastated the entire planet. After hundreds of years of thousands of people roaming the desolate, irradiated Great Wastes, megacities emerged from the dust of deserts. Where there was once crumbling roads and dancing dust devils now stand skyscrapers towering over hundreds of thousands of roaming pedestrians walking the streets of Jeriko City, located on the East Coast of the once powerful United States of America.
Neon Nights uses a point-buy system to increase parts of your character sheet as you like, which gives you a lot of flexibility when cobbling together a concept. You use points to increase traits, which seem to affect your rolls, perks, which are special abilities used in specific situations, and World Stats, which determine how your character is seen by the rest of the world. How famous are you? How feared? How much respect are you granted? At character creation this may be a guide for the GM as to how your character is received by different elements of society. And these arenas will change depending on what you do in the game. You’ll also choose Occupations which give you pre-determined modifiers and skills that make your character unique. Finally, there’s your gear! Biotech, consumables, and weapons all give your character tools to use in whatever situations you find yourselves in.
Mutants in the Now, by Julian Kay.
In the ‘80s and ‘90s, they ruled the streets, kick-flipping off of villainous faces and slipping into the shadows. Then, they vanished from the world of tabletop gaming.
But they’re back. And ready to KICK BUTT.
Mutants in the Now is a retromodern retake on the mutant animal role-playing games long past and left behind by licensing. Mutants fight to survive, thrive, and make the world better for themselves and humanity.
If you want unlimited options, Mutants in the Now has options. Over 130 animal species and over 200 mutation traits are in the basic book, along with fourteen combat styles, psionic powers, and detailed rules about combat, allies, villains, and more. You can roll randomly for your animal, and spend points to improve them via mutations, combat styles etc.
There’s a lot of pieces that you can look at and then generate a backstory based off of the character you’ve created, and the setting is high action, Saturday-morning-cartoon in theme, but the details are up to your play group. If you like limitless possibilities for character creation, you should check out Mutants in the Now (and it’s expansion, Mutants in the Next!)
