Region: A region of eternal night as scientists created plants that could grow in moonlight, though there is some places that try to create artificial lights for the plants that couldn't grow in the moonlight. The moon still changing to different fullness percents with times there is no moon visible.

Region name: Lunar region.

Type: Dragon Dark.

Pokemon species name: The serpent dragon.

Ability: Magic guard.

Description: This Pokémon is only known by a few select people in the entire region. It has strong magical abilities that it can use outside of battles. It was once known to the public however overtime its existence was covered up to most people. It became only a vague memory at best to some. It is an ancient Pokémon that a long time ago put certain Pokémon to sleep; Only to be awoken when this Pokémon uses its magic to allow this to happen. The reason for it putting these Pokémon to sleep is mostly agreed to be to allow it to show it's better than them, though some insist it is aware it will one day be defeated and stored those Pokémon away as a last resort defence. It is able to turn invisible by darting through a cloud in the sky, however this is only a temporary thing as it cannot be invisible for more than two minutes. It can use its long tail to wrap its victims up, and will usually use its tail to wrap up a victim before kidnapping them though this rarely happens.

Lore: This Pokémon is said to have slept for one thousand years until it was awakened by a persons Pokémon magic. It is believed to be a vengeful Pokémon believed that it will destroy the world if not stopped. Its power was greatly feared by the masses, and still is to those who know of its existence. It is said in ancient legends that if this Pokémon were to awaken from its slumber then a hero will rise to stop its rampage; and this hero will be able to get it to break the spell of eternal night making night and day cycles again. That person will be declared the highest standing hero of the region. Though this hero must beware as it is said that this Pokémon will be able to sense if someone is the hero, and it may use its magic to do what it deems needed to stop its defeat. In some ancient tales it's said that it can roar in a way that it can be heard across the land, and thus was deemed to be an omen that the end of the world is to come.

Moon blast: A full moon appears between the Pokémon's horns and with the power of the moon sends a beam at its opponent. Only able to hit one opponent.

Star fall: Stars are summoned around the Pokémon and launched at an opponent like meteors. Able to hit multiple opponents at once.

Design inspiration: Mega Absol, Dragonair, Pokemon fusions, dragons, and imagining how royal dragons would lay to look down upon their subjects, with a slight change so the pokemon is looking to its wings instead of just holding its head up high.

Lunar region is a region that I have thought about making. I will be making more Pokémon and variants for this region.

The Six Sides of N Harmonia's Puzzle Box

N's Void Cube looked a lot different in development.  Not only was it a Puzzle Box instead of the Void Cube we know today, but it had six colorful, enigmatic patterns. And after more than ten years, I've finally been able to accurately recreate these patterns in 3D!

And I think I know what they're based on too! It's all about Tao. Black and White are known for their yin and yang motif, the primary inspiration for the Tao Trio. But as we know from the anime theme song, it's not always black and white. There's also the five elements.

Wuxing is the system of five elemental phases of being: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

But first: all of this is based on internet research. I'm not an expert, and this isn't my culture, so definitely let me know if there's something I need to change for any reason.

In my last post on Wuxing, I explained that five Unova legendaries, the Therian Forces of Nature along with Kyurem, each have a gem on their body that reflects one of the elemental phases.

The exact five colors of these gems, with appropriate designs for their respective elements, happen to match the sides of N's Puzzle Box - along with a twist for the sixth. So let's go over each of them!

Green 木 "Wood" This is the front of the Puzzle Box, with the opening leading to the keyhole. N is very "Natural" kind of guy, so we can see why this element would be the face of the Puzzle Box, as well as the basis for the Void Cube design.

Fun fact - early civilizations rarely saw a distinction between green and blue. So although "Wood" is correlated with the Azure Dragon of the Four Auspicious Beasts, in this context "azure" can refer to shades of green and blue.

Red 火 "Fire" This one looks like a big flame wheel. See the big circle inside the square? It also reminds me of the Chinese zodiac, if each of the six rings on the outside represent two zodiac signs. Red is associated with the Chinese zodiac and the Lunar New Year after all. I'm not sure about the two center dots.

White 金 "Metal" Oh now this one's clearer to me. If the Red Fire pattern represents the Chinese zodiac and the Lunar New Year, this one represents moon phases! See the intersecting curved lines? It's like the inside of a dome. It looks like the moon changing shape as it crosses the the dome of the sky.

N's cube is likely a relic of ancient Unova, and many ancient artifacts are calendars or reference ancient calendars. As it turns out, the Green, Red, and White patterns all share this theme of eight dots arranged in circles - the eight moon phases. It's the lunar calendar.

Blue 水 "Water" It looks like a lot of bubbles! This one might symbolize the tides that come in and out with the phases of the moon. So the three rings might symbolize the Triple Moon, or the Waxing Moon, Waning Moon, and Full Moon.

Water is traditionally associated with the color Black in Wuxing, but some modern diagrams use Blue. Plus this is Pokemon, and in this franchise, water is blue.

Yellow 土 "Earth" Things are about to get intense. Earth is associated with the Yellow Dragon, the ascended form of the Yellow Emperor, who is the said to be the father of Tao. Very important.

So the Yellow Earth pattern looks familiar. Four circles around a center ring look like the Four Auspicious beasts around the Yellow Dragon, just the Yellow Earth pattern is surrounded by the other four elements around the top of the box.

The Yellow Dragon of course, is Kyurem with its yellow forehead gem, and the Four Auspicious Beasts are the Therian Forces of Nature, with the gems of the other four elements.

Then on the bottom of the box is this mystery Pink pattern. It's kind of a mirror of the Yellow Earth Pattern on top. Both have that big center circle, symbolizing Kyurem as the Yellow Dragon.

Well, something I didn't realize in my first post on Wuxing is that when Kyurem is shiny, its gem turns bright pink.

The gems on the Therian Forms, by the way, stay the same color when they're shiny. So what's going on here? Well, I think the Pink pattern represents a kind of reflection of the Earth element.

Earth is the only elemental phase composed of both yin and yang. (Source) While the other phases have their opposites, Earth is its own opposite. Except, in the early design of N's Puzzle Box, it seems that GameFreak split it into "Earth" and "Mirror Earth".

And what is Pink most associated with in Unova? Dream Mist and the Dream World. The Pink pattern even looks like the weave of a dreamcatcher. So it's not "Earth" and "Mirror Earth" - it's our world and the Dream World.

This would even explain why both Yellow and Pink patterns represent Kyurem and the Yellow Dragon with a center ring. Taking it back to my previous post on Wuxing, the Yellow Dragon resides in the center of the world, just like the center ring in Unova:

That's the Entralink: it's the center ring that is the constant between worlds: our world, the Dream World, even the worlds of other players. And on the Puzzle Box, the center ring is like an axis that goes straight through, from top to bottom, from world to world.

While the other sides of the Puzzle Box depict the lunar phases, the Yellow Earth pattern depicts the Earth itself, so it makes sense that it would be surrounded by the other sides.

The lunar calendar theme also ties into the Dream World, because many cultures associate the phases of the moon with our dreams. That's why the dream legendaries Cresselia and Darkrai are based on phases of the moon.

And that's it for my analysis of each side!

Wuxing is such a perfect theme for a puzzle cube, because it's all about rotating the sides of the cube around a central axis, just like celestial objects in their orbit. In fact "Wuxing" translates to "moving planets". There's a very astrological quality to it.

And each combination of colors is like the interaction of elements, transient phases of matter in a grand cycle, like planets in the cosmic order.

If Stardew Valley were to have a box legendary I think it would be Cresselia. It's literally Lunar pokemon and represents the crescent moon so it being the patron legendary of Stardew Valley just makes a lot of sense to me. Also Cresselia is underrated NSNDN.

Maybe there would be a secret special encounter for Darkrai. (the other half of it and Cresselia's duo but is a mythical for some reason?)

Also the Lunar wing would be very neat item to have in-game ANSNDND.

If it were to exist within the mod I imagine the farmer would be like "oooo shiny feather. Maybe it's a pokemon feather? Emmet/Ingo would probably like it :D" so then they make it into a necklace, or maybe just give it to one of them outright without knowing what it is. So Emmet/Ingo sees it and just starts freaking the hell out cause their crush/friend just gave them a piece of a literal legendary pokemon meanwhile the farmer is just....clueless NSNDND.

Now onto some of the other characters.

As basically the resident nurse joy of Pelican Town I think Harvey would have some pokemon common in the medical field. Though, pokemon like Chansey and Audino don't really fit his whole "whiskey neat, coffee black, bed at three"/ref vibes so I thought Indeedee would be best NSNDNND.

I also decided to give some pokemon to the characters mentioned within my ask.

Willy is very fond of water types, clearly NSNS. Specifically fish pokemon like Lanturn, Seaking, Whiscash, Wishiwashi, or Dondozo. (Though his actual team probably has a good chunk of pokemon that are still water type just not fish lmao) The crowning jewel of his collection is a shiny Magikarp he fished up. Maybe one day it will evolve, but for now it just swims around the docks next to his house entertaining anyone that visits.

He also has a Bibarel. (which I imagine is the grown up version of that one Bidoof that snuck into Pelican Town) It acts more like an overgrown housecat than a battle ready pokemon but it is incredibly bulky so ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯.

Morris also has a few pokemon of his own. Most of which he keeps at home. But his main two he's seen with is a Gimmighoul and a Gumshoos. (IDK he just has Gumshoos vibes to me NSNDNND) They run around Joja pickpocketing people's gold cause Morris is just a dick like that.

Wizard likes psychic types, but I like to think he also has a fondness for fairy types too. Also, most of em has at least one strong fire type move just so he has an excuse to yell "fireball" and blast something NSND. His Malamar is named Illithid (a wack squid monster guy from DnD lol)

Sandy likes rock types, given that she lives in a desert it's probably the only type of pokemon she sees on the daily lol. She also has a key stone on her earring. With how colorful a keystone is when compared to sand I think she would be the most likely to find one there. Idk exactly if she'd mega evolve an Aerodactyl or a Tyranitar, if any pokemon at all. But I think she'd carry it around regardless. It's pretty :]

Also she has a shiny Rockruff. I don't rly have an explanation for that one I think it just fits the vibe lol.

And now, shenanigans.

Emmet then proceeds to grab the child and just.... speed walk away HSBBDBDJJR.

That's all I have for now, I'll probably throw some other pokemon at the bachelorettes and other bachelors another time but this alone took a solid week due to finals 😭/lh

(This is so long I'm so sorry, readmore for sanity)

Because I’m utterly insane, I’ve split this into 2 categories because I have different thoughts for both, but the first one is what you’ve actually asked which is what pokemon they would have if they were in some kinda pokemon trainer au. (I’m not gonna do them whole entire teams cause that would make this even longer, I’m just gonna give one or two)

For Nightmare I could see him gravitating to poison or dark types, because y’know, that’s on brand for him and he needs to be scary lol Something like muk would be a good fit with his goopiness, but what I find fascinating is that there’s a legendary pokemon that fits him like scarily well and that’s darkrai. It’s a mythical pokemon known for causing never-ending nightmares and it feeds off of them, and it also has a counterpart that helps ward off the nightmares and keep it in check. AND it’s design only has one eye showing and the shiny colours make that eye cyan. So like, that would be a perfect fit for him lol

I also think he would have a noctowl just because it scares Dream

Dream I feel like would be very grass or bug type, like he was raised in nature and I feel like he would still want that around. Especially since a lot of grass types know healing moves, it seems like that would be his kinda vibe in picking up after Nightmare’s damage. Maybe something like cherrim since that reacts to the sun or even sawsbuck since it’s also kinda tree-adjacent. And he would also be perfect to get cresselia, which is the counterpart to darkrai! It doesn’t really fit him as closely in design as darkrai does for Nightmare but it basically lives near darkrai to keep an eye on it and shows up after it’s been somewhere to help ward off the nightmares and bring people good dreams, so it’s weirdly them-coded lol (They're literally called the lunar duo)

As for the others, -Killer has a liepard to me. They’re a big majestic cat that loves to sneak up on people to steal or attack, it’s perfect for him. Also possibly a weavile would be good since they’re very quick and slashy. -I think hisuian zoroark fits Dust really well, since it’s whole situation is about dying and coming back to life out of spite and killing everything and driving others insane, it feels like it would slot into his situation nicely. -I feel like greedent would be good for Horror, maybe moreso once he’s out of his au, since they love to gather food and store it in their tails. It would probably be kinda comforting to basically have a snack buddy with you at all times. -Cross is never escaping the dog influences on his character so he gets a mightyena or maybe a mabosstiff, they’re very well trained in battle and also he loves them more than life itself he would do anything for them. -I love associating Ink with ferrets now so he gets furret, they can both hunch over together while he’s drawing lol but also maybe a grafaiai for him? They like making graffiti and colouring in the trees in the area they live in which feels like a good fit for him.

Now. Here’s where I go truly insane lol I have different answers for if you’re asking what pokemon would they be, like if this was an au where everybody is turned into a pokemon.

Nightmare and Dream are complicated because like.

There’s a pokemon called malamar which is a big evil squid that uses dark magic and one of the pokedex entries says it was even involved in history-changing events. That’s completely Nightmare right?

And there’s a pokemon called decidueye which is a big grass type owl (which I love to call back to your furry Dream) that wears a cloak/cape and shoots arrows at people. That’s totally Dream!

I feel like those two are great fits for them but the problem is if they’re two completely different pokemon they can’t be twins, so I have an alternative suggestion which is to make both of them eevees, which eventually evolve into espeon (Dream) and umbreon (Nightmare). The way to evolve eevee into those two is friendship, so it would possibly have to take place during a truce to make it the most meaningful but I think it would be cool.

Anyway, Killer is houndoom coded to me. I don’t know why, there’s just something about him that my brain cannot disconnect from this hellhound. He takes orders and he has red prominent in the colour scheme. Also the pokedex says if you get burned by a houndoom the pain is with you forever and I bet Killer would love to have that effect lol

I know people hate the rabbit association for Dust but just hear me out. Raboot is very him. It looks annoyed all the time, it has a little pocket to shove it’s hands in like his hoodie and it’s got red fur around the bottom of it’s face like the scarf he wears.

Obvious choice is a bear pokemon for Horror because everybody does that, and I could definitely see him as ursaluna with the big intimidating energy, but for some reason I get a real vibe of tyranitar about him. Just like with Killer it’s based on absolutely nothing, but I can really picture him as this big towering dinosaur with some spikes missing on one side of his head

Again, I want to make Cross lycanroc because big fierce loyal puppy with a limited colour palette, but y’know what I think is a great fit for him? Absol. It’s black and white and it has red eyes and it’s wrongly blamed for things it didn’t do so it lives in isolation, plus the mega evolution gets wings which just feel like they fit him (looking at dragon furry Cross not gonna lie lol)

They literally have an Ink pokemon and it’s smeargle. He’s a little artist who uses his tail as a paintbrush and can change the colour of the paint coming from it, they also can steal any move from other pokemon mid-battle which feels like something Ink would do lol

Anyway I need to spend the next 16 hours drawing pokesonas for skeletons now thank you <3

CRESSELIA

Space-Time Smackdown has come to Pokemon Trading Card Pocket, and there are so many great cards it's hard to choose where to start! I decided to settle on this Cresselia here, and I don't think I need to explain why! Why a beautiful pastel picture! The curtains billowing upwards like a dreamy fog, Cresselia's sparkling luminescence on an already starry night, it's such a magical scene!

I couldn't find a high quality enough image of the card to show the Pokedex entry, but I really think the TCG needs to get on coordinating them better, because there is a perfect entry for this exact scene! "Those who sleep holding Cresselia's feather are assured of joyful dreams" appears in many Pokedex entries about Cresselia, and what we're seeing right here is a little girl getting the Lunar Feather given to her by Cresselia! It looks like she might have been staying up late reading a book before then, but imagine the wonder you'd experience if you saw the radiance of a Legendary Pokemon beaming in through your window. She might even think this must be a dream...

The little girl's bedroom is very cute too. I think it balances the Pokemon paraphernalia with normal patterns well. We have a little Wingull ornament, a few on a string, then the little Clefairy doll in hand she no doubt cherishes, and a big plush Starly on the chair. As great as Pokemon are, nice patterns and stylish design still have a place after all! The pinks, whites, and light greens are perfect for this moonlit meeting though.

I'm going to go ahead and link the full art so you can look a little closer at the picture, mostly so I can direct you to look at the wall next to her bed. See those little photos on the wall? Pictures of the sky, the moon, some stars, this girl clearly loves the night sky, which makes that Cresselia chose to visit her an even more unforgettable encounter! I bet that book is even about astronomy or some stellar storybook! Maybe it's that love that drew the Psychic Pokemon there to grant it a little gift for her pure and genuine interest? I can totally imagine this being a memorable encounter that starts a short story about a girl who followed her dreams to the skies, maybe even one day reuniting with this Cresselia!

Is it possible I like sparkly, gentle pictures too much? Maybe, but they keep making gorgeous cards like this, so I can't help but share my love for them!

As for some things I'd like to talk about with the project— I've mostly been developing the Legends, so I'll talk about that!

Legendary pokemon operate similarly to how they do in my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon AU, The Present is a Gift.

Lugia and Ho-oh are ancient sweethearts engaged in a millenia-long courtship. They're sickeningly sweet and sappily romantic in their relationship.

Lugia governs the Bird Trio, which were gifts from Ho-oh. Ho-oh governs the Beast Trio, which were gifts from Lugia.

Lugia is feathery, as opposed to the more dolphin-like skin her species is usually depicted with in the source media.

Mew and Regigigas are close friends. Mew gets parenting advice from her after learning of Mewtwo's creation.

Alto Mare is the coastal town called home by the Eon Duo, and has a defense mechanism called the DMA that could be catastrophically dangerous if used incorrectly. The DMA is guarded by the firstborn child of each generation in a particular family. This guardian associates closely with Latios and Latias. A new guardian has recently been appointed, and Latias befriended the replacement right away. Latios, who was extremely close with the previous guardian, is much slower to warm.

The Lunar Duo are actually a single entity known by many names. She undergoes a grotesque transformation with the phases of the moon where she shifts between Darkrai and Cresselia's appearances. She tends to isolate herself, as when the moon turns dark her powers become uncontrollable and dangerous.

Heatran's body is constantly reforming underneath stoney armor due to its lavalike, impossible to contain nature.

There's a specific Legend responsible for our main character's friend disappearing along with everyone's memories of him.

LU Pokemon Au

I literally know nothing about the downfall duo… and anything I do know is entirely from fandom so….. Imagine much like legend his entire team is tired and jaded, only fueled by their duty as the hero. They all still care but they just so goddamn tired from it all. Sweet Hylia just give the man a break.

And it wasn't till the end that I noticed half the team had rabbit ears or ‘V’ shaped visual designs. It's entirely by coincidence I swear!

Time Sky Warriors Twilight Wild ✌️Legend Hyrule Four Wind

✌ ️Victini: The victory pokemon. Victini shares legend's bitterness towards the goddess’, and anxiety to always prevail.

I honestly see victini as a mini legend, a literal bunny ledge if u will. They even have cute little wings! ... Would it be too much to give them a matching red vest 🤔

✌️ Delibird: A bond formed through hoarding. Sometimes legend would have to fight Delibird for his own items because the bird didn't want to share, though it's mostly to tease Legend, nudging him to loosen up a bit more.

✌️ Lucario: Lucario's EQ is high. Legend's an emotional wreck of a teenager. Aside from being a strong fighter Lucario is there to help emotionally support Legend. Carefully monitoring him, seeing through his snark to his true emotions, and knowing whether to soothe or give the Veteran space.

✌️ Sableye: Something about this gremlin seems right. I haven't played any of Legend's games but this choice feeeels right. All I know is sableye has a good eye for treasure and expertly appraises any loot and items they come across.

Sableye is also very critical of which accessories Legend wears out, styling him to make sure they match aesthetically.

✌️ Ditto: Legend has done it all, and what Ditto sees Ditto does. Ditto can transform into any item Legend has used in his adventures, and while can transform into creatures and humans it exhausts them quickly. Plus they have a preference for magical items.

Ditto doesn't rest inside their pokeball, instead opting to transform into one of legend's accessories ready to fight at a moment's notice.

✌️ Enamuros: The love-hate pokemon. Forced to travel to resolve worldly conflicts is something they both have in common.

Originally I picked suicune since they do something similar purifying contaminated waters across the world. But then I discovered Enamuros and they felt like a better choice for Ledge.

I hc all legendaries can speak human so… Enamuros, Victini, and Ledge spend many hours bitching about hylia and her grudge against them. 9 adventures is 8 too many.

Notes: So fandom agrees legend refuses to sleep. Well in the pokemon au it's because Darkrai curses him to dream of Koholint, and sometime during that quest he encounters Cresellia, who gives him a lunar feather (to help wake up? I haven't played the game eep)
