I know I'm late as hell for this meme, but when I realised how well it suits them, I had to draw it.

They tried to get into New Mauville without any kind of permissions, and it didn't work out so well - since they got arrested for trespassing several times when they were first starting out as an urban explorer, they're just rolling with it

An AU where various characters get random “diverse” attributes added to them to see how it affects their canon character arc.

I gave Red crutches, but I got all the other character changes by bombarding my mutuals with questions, asking them to list characters in various different categories like “rival” and “Professor”.

THIS IS NOT “FIXING ART”. I LOVE CANON DEARLY. I’M JUST SLAPPING SHIT ONTO THESE CHARACTERS AND SEEING HOW IT CHANGES THE STORY. THIS IS FOR AN AU.

This all started because I wanted to see how it would change/recontextualize their stories and character traits. Red doesn’t have a personality so I just went with whatever felt right.

Reference for my brand shiny (not really) new Pokémon trainer OC! It's a little rushed (mostly in that I couldn't draw their Pokémon) because I rushed to draw them in time for Art Fight ^^;

Age: 23

Gender: Nonbinary (they/them pronouns)

Finley is an urban explorer, taking photos of abandoned places and documenting their history online. The nature of this work means that they travel around a lot, often only staying in a particular region for a year or less at a time before moving on to their next eerie adventure.

Some other little notes:

Espeon is their main Pokémon, having been given to them as an Eevee when they were a child. They’re aware that it isn’t great against the ghost-types they often encounter (though it knows Shadow Ball and Tera Blast, with its tera type being Dark), so they also keep a Zoroark for battling (as well as using illusions to escape security guards).

They’re a workaholic, often staying up throughout the night to research as much as they can about the current abandoned place they’re focusing on (hence the tired-looking face). They use both the internet and various books to learn about it.

Their hobbies/skills include photography, web design, reading, playing video games, and playing with their Pokémon.

The outfit shown in the reference is what they wear while working – they tend to wear more casual clothes (t-shirts, jeans, sneakers, etc.) otherwise.

While their main team isn’t made up of ghost-type Pokémon, they do like them, and may let any that are roaming the derelict place they’re currently in hang around with them, if it’s not too dangerous.
