I can’t bear to waste paint. So here I sit, in the studio, saving all the extra left over paint from my palette. ⠀⠀ I know it sounds cliché but it’s true. Paint is expensive and aside from that it’s beautiful. So I use it up. I pull out a journal or magazine and I just brush all that extra paint onto the pages. No rhyme. No reason. Just getting it off the palette and into a book where I can revisit it later. ⠀⠀ I will come back and add Art Marks, collage, journal a few words, and sketch and draw over this paint. The best part is that I always end up liking these “throw the paint on any which way” pages more than the ones where I try to recreate this colorful block like style. Life is busy for me right now. The good, kick you in the butt, you’ve been blessed with a million cool tasks kind of busy. But some days I just need to sit and not think about any of that stuff. ⠀⠀ On those kind of days I like get on my stool in the studio and put paintbrush to paper. No project, no goals, no pressure to be great-or even good. ⠀⠀ Most of the time I’m able to paint and not give much thought to anything else- my mind and body tired and ready for the break. But other times those mini art breaks send my mind reeling with new thoughts about what comes next. Letting go and experimenting today. ⠀⠀ I don’t often create digitally but I do enjoy a good exercise in color. I know I will never give up my paintbrush and paper for a tablet and pen but some days it’s fun to explore a whole new fun way of layering. And I love how I can explore the look of acrylic and watercolor side by side simply this way. Who doesn’t love a teeny tiny painting? I haven’t painted an actual painting in weeks and this little bitty one got me excited to get back in the groove again. This started life as a cast off watercolor piece and it evolved over the course of a few days. ⠀⠀ This piece went through so many stages, some where I almost tossed it into the garbage bin, but somehow I managed to listen to my own advice and each time I walked away instead. ⠀⠀ Walking away from my Art has changed how I create. If you know me you know my life is crazy busy all the time so I have learned to work in small increments of time in order to make CREATING ART doable.
