Creature 94
Western Pocket Gopher
Western pocket gophers live in Canada, America and a decent portion of Mexico. Western gophers are seen above ground most often at night. Since they spend most of their time underground using their large teeth to dig for food. Their digging actually helps the soil, in a similar way to worms, although they will eat your plants so not the best thing for a garden.

Descriptor: The Burrowing Pokemon Name Origin: Coal + Gopher Inspiration: Texas Pocket Gopher Ability: Touch Claws Type: Normal/Ground Evolution Line: Geominer evolves into Coalpher at Level 20 Dex Entry:
With their long claws and sharp oversized teeth, Coalphers are not known to be gentle creatures. They have giant cheek pouches or 'pockets' that they use to carry food and are fiercely protective of both their food storage and their collection of treasures that Geominers will bring them to ensure protection. They have been known to bulldoze through Skurrow and Pupip tunnels without second thought.
It's a Coalpher! It's angry! It's Pedra's special little guy! It wants to tear up your vegetable garden!

I’m used to Botta’s pocket gophers immediately diving under the dirt whenever I get too close, but this one even let me take some good video that I’ll post soon; I think it was so focused because they were covering up their hole anyway haha XD

My sister dreamed that for some reason she couldn't recall she ordered five baby scorpions. She'd actually done her research (by dream standards) and learned that these scorpions' stings couldn't kill us, just "give us a bit of a buzz." When they arrived there were great big spiders in the boxes with them, which she didn't want at all, but then the baby scorpions ate the spiders so perhaps they were packed with them as a snack for the journey? But then she opened the boxes and the scorpions all fucked off out of the house! They came back, though, and we were trying to trap them so we could return them because of course she didn't want these scorpions and couldn't think why she'd ordered them.
Apparently I was very sympathetic and helpful with the scorpions.
I was going to say scorpions are incredibly illegal in New Zealand, but then I thought I'd better check my facts before making bold statements, and I couldn't find scorpions on the official list of prohibited organisms. However, I think they're probably covered by the blanket ban on "Venomous reptiles, venomous amphibian, venomous fish, or venomous invertebrate (ie. capable of inflicting poisonous wounds harmful to human health)."
So. Scorpions are incredibly illegal in New Zealand, and so are beavers and gerbils.
ETA: there is an animal called the pocket gopher and that is illegal too

we have a good reason to be afraid ok if you look at a map in america too long it might feel threatened and shoot you
"everything you want is on the other side of fear" but it's about usamericans finally bringing themselves to look at a world map
#also one time i went to ''''france'''' and it was just a gaping white void and a baguette so other countries may not in fact always exist#botswana was definitely real tho there were crocodiles and hippos and people and i think the best airport i've ever seen in my life#oh btw the above is also the reason why americans are so afraid of sex-related things. what if it IS a gun in your pocket#anyway joking aside it's kinda pathetic how many people try to use being american as a shield for everything#like if you've just always assumed that every non-usa-ian lives in like. a gopher hole then that's actually on you#there are serious flaws in plenty of countries' educational systems most of them still know about other people#like i'd think the reason is that the us only borders two countries and most of us are nowhere near either one but apparently not
