I made another pochade box, I have been experimenting with different sizes that I want to have and I think this one is close to perfect I would like to try a bigger one but it might be too heavy. This is from an old cigarbox that I got from a smoke shop and I added torque hinges in the back and a latch in the front also added 1/4 of an inch plywood on the bottom for support with a Tee-nut drilled on the bottom. I do need a mini bungee cord to hold my sketchbook to the lid. Kristin and I walked #tokaiforest today which always inspires me with its dark shadows and vivid colors, so I painted an assemblage combining elements of the forest area and focusing on the values more than just color. I put a 30 minute time limit on the painting to keep myself loose and moving and not getting bogged down in detail. Laundry day and a scheduled road bike ride left little time for a painting expedition, so I set up in the back yard again and painted a scene from yesterday’s hike from memory. It was a good exercise that I should practice more often. This painting evolved from some small #pleinair studies along the #alphentrail, re-created on a slightly larger canvas and then finally to the larger version. I intended #pleinairpainting to simply be a means of growth in an area I had little experience. I did not foresee its influence on my emerging landscape works as a whole.
