This painting evolved from some small #pleinair studies along the #alphentrail, re-created on a slightly larger canvas and then finally to the larger version. I intended #pleinairpainting to simply be a means of growth in an area I had little experience. I did not foresee its influence on my emerging landscape works as a whole. Today’s #pleinair adventuretook me to the top of the #alphentrail where I hoped to get a good view of the mountain and some forested areas. It was a great spot to set up, but clouded over by the time I arrived so I didn’t have the dark contrasting shadows I’d hoped for. It was a quick trip. I allowed myself 45 minutes cycling (round trip) and 45 minutes painting to keep myself from getting too detail oriented.
