Hey, Tales of Symphonia faithful! If you're wondering where my quirky write-ups regarding that 2004 GameCube RPG have gone, I've set them aside for the time being as I've dived headfirst into a remake of *another* formative RPG in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. (Also a Gamecube game! Wowza! What a coinkydink.) As you may expect, all this indulging upon when Paper Mario was actually good Mario nostalgia is taking up all my precious time, so I'm putting the TOS replay on the backburner until I wrap up my Rogueport adventures. You can expect that within a week or so -- in the meantime, did you catch my last write-up?

On top of that, well, I've been drafting/penning the absurdist Colloyd wedding like crazy and I'm trying to get it all done by June 15th -- Colloyd Day. Hoo boy, guys, I'm not kidding --you know it's a good sign when I'm cracking up writing the latest comedy fic. As always in the Baronverse, things are getting so zany that it's all rapidly inflating to the point where we're likely looking at a multi-chap fic. Could be two chapters, might be three, who knows. All I know is, I'm having the time of my life drafting all this and if you breathe Colloyd like you need air, then you'll want to read this. (Actually breathing said fic via nostrils is not recommended.) Anyway, I'll see you all purty soon.

(Slight spoilers for TTYD) So there’s a side-quest where Mario dresses up like Luigi to make a girl Toad happy as she’s a fan of him. The real Luigi shows up and she accuses him of being an imposter and says rude things to him. Luigi asks Mario to back him up, only for him to play dumb about it. Luigi runs away crying.

Some Luigi fans on Twitter have been made aware of it and now hate the game because of it, forgetting that TTYD was originally made during the 2000s, a time where Luigi slander was unfortunately common in the games.

Now don’t get me wrong, they’re right to hate Luigi slander, but to denounce the game over one instance in an optional side-quest?

It's their prerogative to voice their complaints, but it's definitely weird to get that bent out of shape.

It's perfectly reasonable to say "that one part left a poor taste in my mouth," but if an overall great game experience can be ruined by one mean spirited (but completely optional) side quest, that's weird. It's not an ancient religion where you have to accept every aspect of canon or denounce the entire project. It's Mario. It's fine.

or can you indeed miss quests and be locked out of them? I think some rpgs you can be if you don't do things very specifically.

like being locked out of getting Reiji in Revelations Persona if you talked to his mom twice..... or other such specific things.... lol.

hope I'm not annoying constantly posting about it~~ anxiety says yes its a nostalgic game and I'm having a lot of fun playing it in over a decade~~~ anxiety can shut it and quit ruining my fun~~

Hi. I just wanted to say that I read and completely agree with your post about koopas (that don't live in the Dark Lands) being peaceful creatures in modest little communities. I wanna add my own headcanon that Koopa Village (PM64) was a community originally founded way back by former Dark Land inhabitants seeking a quiet life different from the one they left behind, while Petalburg (PMTTYD) was founded well before the Dark Lands even had a political presence (easter eggs suggest it is canonically older than the Thousand-Year Door itself), so its koopa inhabitants never even had family ties to the Koopa Troop and have only heard second-hand rumors of Bowser's terrifying regime.

Also, since you're on vacation as of me sending this ask, you'll presumably be done with vacation by the time you read it. So, I'll just say, I hope your vacation was a good one.

I'm glad you share the same headcanon regarding koopas! :) 🤝 I love exploring concepts that give more depth to certain characters, and typical enemies/secondary adversaries are obviously no exception! Same goes with goombas and bob-ombs. I think it's only fair to assume that in other realms and territories situated far away from the conflict (and from Bowser's domineering reign especially), these species would have no reason to attack or show hostility, and would thus develop their own tranquil ways of living. The idea of some villages having been founded by actual troops purposely leaving their ranks to seek a more peaceful life is one that I really like, and their descendants having no ties with the conflict whatsoever makes this all the more interesting. 👏

also my birthday is on the 30th; i should have said something before because when I do gifts or whatnot for people i like more warning, so i feel hypocritical but it IS really hard for me to type much at once right now

I honestly dont really know what to say at the moment for gift stuff; I'm still trying to expand the number of Switch games I own digitally, and that is hard because they're always so expensive and are never on sale so the prospect of someone giving me the money to get them (which is the most likely way to do it) feels like an absurd thing to say but i'd be remiss if i didn't suggest it. paper mario the thousand year door remake or kirby the forgotten land on switch are probably the games there I am most interested in getting, and PMTTYD is about half off on G2A (a site where you can buy digital games and the like for cheap) and you can apparently gift G2a items to someone else though idk how it works precisely

a friend of mine already gave me a gift (Tears of the Kingdom) and honestly I'm real happy with that so honestly I feel weirdly uncomfortable asking for more like this but it felt like LIES and CHICANERY to not raise the idea somehow??

i think steam gifted games are always an option but not really sure what's on sale at the moment. (Cavern of Dreams is on sale and looks cute!)

otherwise uhhh anything you do for me as a gift is always appreciated so that is of course an option if you want to do something like that

i wish i had done more stuff on my OCs here, they are my favorite thing and something i'd be most interested in getting as gifts but i just havent talked about them except in vague comments, if i ever really recover i will talk more about them

also if you have any thoughts about creative stuff I've done in the past

the very funny thing that happened for me with this poll: I correctly voted “this is my first time hearing it” while literally completely being confident in the exact song.

this is because I’ve played pmttyd a billion times, but my playthrough of the updated switch version stalled out in early chapter 6, before any battles occur where I would hear this. but also, the music in that game is so good that I could instantly pick out the motifs and figure out which game, chapter, and area this track was for

anyway I should pick up that playthrough again sometime soon the remake is so so good

I just noticed that Brad, Judy and Ricky from Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated have a lot of similarities to the Shadow Sirens from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Both groups have members who wear pink, yellow or blue. The blue member is rude, the yellow member is the largest, and the pink member is pretty.

Both groups have members who eventually become good guys. In PMTTYD, Vivian (the pink one) joins Mario’s side during chapter 4. In SDMI, since s2 ep19, Ricky (the yellow one) tries to betray Professor Pericles multiple times, but is able to sacrifice himself for the Scooby gang’s safety in the last episode. So Vivian and Ricky have more similarities then would noted at first glance. Something interesting is that Vivian is considered pretty cute looking compared to her sisters, while Ricky is considered to be less attractive than Brad and Judy.

Judy (the pink one) is known to be quite the ditz and Marilyn (the yellow one) just says “Guh” most, so they’re the dumb ones in their groups. Brad (the blue one) starts to become more mean spirited towards others at s2 ep21. The way he belittles others reminds me of Beldam (the blue one).

The two groups work for the main villain, who wants to awaken a demon that can take over and destroy entire worlds. Someone ends up getting possessed by the demon and the hero have to fight them. Is some people who wrote Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated fans of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door?
