Giustiniani Hestia, Mercury Brings Psyche up to Olympus, Statue of Hades
May Lady Hestia give the Departed a seat before the flame; may Lady Psyche watch over them as Lord Hermes guides them; and may King Hades kindly accept them into the realm of the Dead.

Petition Hestia, Psyche, Hermes, and Hades
Petition Hestia, the One Rich in Blessings. May Lady Hestia light the way for the Departed.
O' divine One, Lady Hestia; Kind, daughter of lovely-haired Rhea; Goddess of the Home herself.
Lady Hestia, who was the first Olympian devoured by the King of the Titans and the last to be spit out, who refused Lord Apollon and King Poseidon and swore by King Zeus' head to remain an eternal virgin, who now guides the sacrificial flame and receives a share of every offering; please hear my words.
You, who presides over the Home; You, who reigns over the hearth and the flames. Over communal feasts and family meals, domestic bliss, and family blessings. You, who manifests in every corner of a home, in the familiar smell of a beloved house, in the coziness of a fluffy blanket on a cold night, in the flame of every fire.
Please hear me, o' divine One.
Kindly welcome the Departed with your warm flames. Please give them a moment of rest on their long journey to the gateway of Hades and a seat before the fire. And when the time comes, may I also sit in front of your lovely hearth.
May you become the hope in the dark for the Departed.
Tumblr media
Petition Psyche, the Winged One. May Lady Psyche watch over us during our time of transformation and struggle.
O' divine Winged One, Lady Psyche; Lovely-haired, beloved Mortal Princess, loved by Love himself. Lady Psyche, who unrelentingly sorted seeds under Lady Aphrodite's command, who gathered the golden fleece from the rams of the Sun, who collected water from the River Styx and traveled to the depths of Hades, twice in the name of Love; please hear my words.
You, who personifies our Soul and Spirit; You, who manifests in the gentle flutter of the passing butterflies, in the feeling of loneliness that comes from being the odd one in a room, in the triumph of succeeding after failing, in the days spent laying in bed to the days where one feel on top of the world.
Please hear me, O' divine Winged One.
Watch over those who came before me and walk alongside you in the form of butterflies; watch over those who will eventually go and walk the same path; and watch over me as I am in this moment.
May you watch as we make the most of this one Mortal life.
Tumblr media
Petition Hermes, the Immortal Guide. May Lord Hermes guide us into the unknown.
O' divine Immortal Guide, Lord Hermes; Winged boots-wearing, beloved Son of Maia, Messenger of the Deathless Gods.
Lord Hermes, who escaped his cradle and stole Lord Apollon's cattle, whose silver tongue marked him as a thief with the wit and charm to persuade even the King of the Gods Zeus himself, who now guides the Shades to the gateways of Hades and traverses through the realm of the Living and the Dead; please hear my words.
You, who acts as the herald of the Gods; You, who reigns over travelers, thieves, herds, and flocks. Over persuasive words, language, and communication. You, who manifests in the random coins found in the corner of one's room while they clean, in green streetlights all the way home, in the swell of pride of a well-received speech, in the safe returns of a loved one.
Please hear me, O' divine Immortal Guide.
Guide those who walk this Earth in the form of butterflies to their rightful resting places—to the sides of their loved ones and those who honor them, to Hades so they may rest eternally. Guide their loved ones through the perils that await us all, and guide me, too.
May you lead us through the unknown.
Tumblr media
Petition Hades, the Unseen Host of Many May King Hades kindly receive the spirits of the Departed.
O' divine Unseen One, Lord Hades; The receiver of all, brother of King Zeus and King Poseidon; King of the Underworld himself.
King Hades, who was devoured by the King of Titans, who was the first son swallowed and the last son to be spit out, who received the realm of the Underworld from a draw of lots, who now supervises the dead and ensures they are judged fairly by Minos, Aeacus, and Radamanthus; please hear my words.
You, who acts as King of the Underworld; You, who reigns over funeral rites and the Souls of the departed. Over the hidden resources of the World, the fertile soils, and the changing seasons alongside the Queen of the Underworld, Lady Persephone. You, who manifests in the newly fallen autumn leaves, in the warning barks of dogs, in the unwavering darkness of the night, and in the shadows that lurk in one's peripheral vision.
Please hear me, o' divine Unseen One.
Receive the Souls and Spirits of the departed and take them into your domain. Celebrate their arrival as they leave the upper world behind and join you in the form of butterflies and Shades. Please receive my offerings and host a celebration in the name of Death.
And may you join them in a joyous celebration, too.

I really like how Olympiodorus, same as Euripides, offhandedly mentions children of Hades, like it's some kind of common thing.
Hence too they say that some are sons of Zeus, some of Poseidon and some of Pluto, in accordance with the allocation of each of the three. For someone with a divine and heavenly character we call a son of Zeus, someone with an earthly character we call a son of Pluto and someone with an intermediate character we call a son of Poseidon. (Olympiodorus, Commentary On Plato’s Gorgias,47.5)

some mentions of Hades in historical works
HESIOD'S THEOGONY:
" In front of that stand the echoing halls Of mighty Hades and dread Persephone, Underworld gods, and a frightful, pitiless Hound stands guard, and he has a mean trick: When someone comes in, he fawns upon him, Wagging his tail and dropping his ears, But he will not allow anyone to leave— He runs down and eats anyone he catches Leaving Persephone’s and Hades’ gates. "
THE ORPHIC HYMNS
" You dwell below the earth, O' strong-spirited one, a meadow in Tartarus, thick-shaded and dark. Sceptered Chthonic Zeus, please accept this sacrifice, O' Plouton, holder of the keys to the whole earth. To mankind you give the wealth of the year’s fruits, yours is the third portion, earth, queen of all, seat of the gods, mighty lap of mortals. Your throne rests on a dark realm, the realm of distant, of untiring, of windless, and of impassive Hades; it does rest on gloomy Acheron, the river who girds the roots of the earth. All-receiver, master of death, master of mortals, host of many, Euboulos, you once took as your bride pure Demeter’s daughter: you tore her away from the meadow, and through the sea you carried her to an Attic cave upon your steeds— it was the district of Eleusis, where the gates to Hades are. You alone were born to judge deeds obscure and conspicuous. Holiest and illustrious ruler of all, frenzied god, you delight in the respect and in the reverence of your worshippers. I summon you, come with favor, come with joy to the initiates. "

The chthonic deities were a group of deities in ancient Greek and Roman religions that were associated with the underworld, the earth, fertility, and the dead.
The term "chthonic" comes from the Greek word "chthonios", meaning "of the earth" or "of the underworld".
Some of the most well-known chthonic deities include:
Hades/Pluto - the god of the underworld
Persephone/Proserpina - the queen of the underworld and goddess of spring growth
Demeter/Ceres - the goddess of agriculture, fertility, and the harvest
Hecate/Trivia - the goddess of witchcraft, crossroads, and the underworld
Gaia/Terra - the primordial goddess of the earth
Worshippers of chthonic deities often conducted their rituals and made offerings at night or in caves, crevices, or other entrances to the underworld. Animal sacrifices, libations (liquid offerings), and burned offerings were common ways to honor these deities. Chthonic cults and mysteries, such as the Eleusinian Mysteries, were also important aspects of ancient Greek religion.
The chthonic deities were seen as powerful forces that could influence the fertility of the earth, the cycle of life and death, and the well-being of the community. As a result, honoring and appeasing these deities was an important part of religious life in the ancient Greek and Roman world.
How people worshipped these deities
1. Sacrifices: Chthonic deities were often worshipped through blood sacrifices, typically of dark-colored animals like black sheep or bulls. These sacrifices were usually conducted at night or in special underground temples and shrines.
2. Libations: Worshippers would pour out offerings of liquids like honey, milk, water, or wine as libations to the chthonic deities, often pouring the offerings into the ground or into cracks in the earth.
3. Mysteries and Initiations: Many chthonic cults, such as the Eleusinian Mysteries, involved secretive initiation rites and rituals that were only accessible to initiated members. Which were a set of initiation rites associated with the worship of Demeter and Persephone.
4. Chthonic Symbols: Chthonic deities were often associated with symbols like snakes, torches, keys, and the color black, which represented their connection to the underworld and the earth.
5. Funerary Rites: Chthonic deities were closely tied to death and the afterlife, and their worship was often incorporated into funerary rites and the veneration of the dead.

orphic hymns to Prosperine and Pluto
i should mention that i did NOT write these!! they are from like the 1st century AD lol
Tumblr media
PROSPERINE:
Daughter of Jove, almighty and divine, come, blessed queen, and to these rites incline:
Only-begotten, Pluto's honored wife, O' venerable Goddess, source of life:
'Tis thine in earth's profundities to dwell, fast by the wide and dismal gates of hell:
Jove's holy offspring, of a beauteous mien, fatal, with lovely locks, infernal queen:
Source of the Furies, whose blest frame proceeds from Jove's ineffable and secret seeds:
Mother of Bacchus, Sonorous, divine, and many-formed, the parent of the vine:
The dancing Hours attend thee, essence bright, all-ruling virgin, bearing heavenly light:
Illustrious, horned, of a bounteous mind, alone desired by those of mortal kind.
O, vernal queen, whom grassy plains delight, sweet to the smell, and pleasing to the sight:
Whose holy form in budding fruits we view, Earth's vigorous offspring of a various hue:
Espoused in Autumn: life and death alone to wretched mortals from thy power is known:
For thine the task according to thy will, life to produce, and all that lives to kill.
Hear, blessed Goddess, send a rich increase of various fruits from earth, with lovely Peace;
Send Health with gentle hand, and crown my life with blest abundance, free from noisy strife;
Last in extreme old age the prey of Death, dismiss we willing to the realms beneath,
To thy fair palace, and the blissful plains where happy spirits dwell, and Pluto reigns.
Tumblr media
PLUTO:
Pluto, magnanimous, whose realms profound are fix'd beneath the firm and solid ground,
In the Tartarian plains remote from fight, and wrapped forever in the depths of night;
Terrestrial Jove, thy sacred ear incline, and, pleased, accept thy mystic's hymn divine.
Earth's keys to thee, illustrious king belong, its secret gates unlocking, deep and strong.
'Tis thine, abundant annual fruits to bear, for needy mortals are thy constant care.
To thee, great king, Avernus is assigned, the seat of Gods, and basis of mankind.
Thy throne is fixed in Hades' dismal plains, distant, unknown to rest, where darkness reigns;
Where, destitute of breath, pale specters dwell, in endless, dire, inexorable hell;
And in dread Acheron, whose depths obscure, earth's stable roots eternally secure.
O' mighty dæmon, whose decision dread, the future fate determines of the dead,
With captive Proserpine, through grassy plains, drawn in a four-yoked car with loosened reins,
Rapt over the deep, impelled by love, you flew 'till Eleusina's city rose to view;
There, in a wondorous cave obscure and deep, the sacred maid secure from search you keep,
The cave of Atthis, whose wide gates display an entrance to the kingdoms void of day.
Of unapparent works, thou art alone the dispensator, visible and known.
O' power all-ruling, holy, honored light, thee sacred poets and their hymns delight:
Propitious to thy mystic's works incline, rejoicing come, for holy rites are thine.

PJO: we need to recognize the value of the minor gods. The Olympians are important, sure, but the minor gods do a lot of work in maintaining and assisting the pantheon, have their own kids and deserve to be seen and valued just as much
HoO: Back at it again with Olympian-only nonsense!

offering post for King Hades.
Orphic Hymn To Hades
Tumblr media
Orphic Hymn 18 to Pluton (trans. Taylor) (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.):
“To Plouton (Pluto) [Haides]. Plouton, magnanimous, whose realms profound are fixed beneath the firm and solid ground, in the Tartarean plains remote from sight, and wrapt for ever in the depths of night. Zeus Khthonios (of the Underworld), thy sacred ear incline, and pleased accept these sacred rites divine. Earth’s keys to thee, illustrious king, belong, its secret gates unlocking, deep and strong. ‘Tis thine abundant annual fruits to bear, for needy mortals are thy constant care. To thee, great king, all sovereign earth assigned, the seat of gods and basis of mankind. Thy throne is fixed in Haides’ dismal plains, distant, unknown to the rest, where darkness reigns; where, destitute of breath, pale spectres dwell, in endless, dire, inexorable hell; and in dread Akheron (Acheron), whose depths obscure, earth’s stable roots eternally secure. O mighty Daimon, whose decision dread, the future fate determines of the dead, with Demeter’s girl [Persephone] captive, through grassy plains, drawn in a four-yoked car with loosened reins, rapt over the deep, impelled by love, you flew till Eleusinia’s city rose to view: there, in a wondrous cave obscure and deep, the sacred maid secure from search you keep, the cave of Atthis, whose wide gates display an entrance to the kingdoms void of day. Of works unseen and seen thy power alone to be the great dispending source is known. All-ruling, holy God, with glory bright, thee sacred poets and their hymns delight, propitious to thy mystics’ works incline, rejoicing come, for holy rites are thine.”

Question for those that have experience with death deities and those who protect the dead
🥀🐺💀🗝️🥀
Tumblr media
So, I’ve been doing some reading about Gods of the Dead - Pluto/Hades/Nyja, etc.
I have a question for anyone who feel inspired to answer in either a comment reply or a reblog.
In many descriptions it is written that they are a “god of the underworld and guardian of souls when they leave the body.”
Do you think this could also be true for those who do soul travel or astral projection? Would the god of the dead also protect those who practice traveling?
And if not him, who? Would anyone be the watcher of this practice? Another psychopomp?
I’m looking for personal gnosis and historical/folkloric evidence of something like this. Thank you ♥️

Meanwhile Iris, messenger of the gods, summons the immortal council. There come the deities of river and lake; the very ghosts were there in heaven’s defence. Hell’s shady portals could not hold Proserpine afar; the king of the silent himself advances in his Lethaean chariot. His horses fear the light which hitherto their astonished eyes have never looked upon and, swerving this way and that, they breathe forth thick vapour from their soot-black nostrils. (Claudian, Gigantomachia, 41ff.)
This is obviously a parody of Homer's Iliad, but my dear Claudian fixed the problem that the Plutonian couple didn't seem to be on the meeting list🤣My best H×P roman reteller🤣

Does anyone else have this?
I work with 3 deities, Pluto, Loki and Beelzebub, and 2 of them seem to have latched onto unexpected candle scents. Pluto loves the apple pie ones and Beelzebub likes the sticky toffee pudding ones. For some reason, it's LOKI who likes a scent that is actually typically associated with him.
And then there's the time when Loki first came to me and went to get some sort of food/drink offering for him and Pluto. Pluto made it very clear that he wanted elderflower cordial and when we went over to the fizzy drinks for Loki, he was adamant that, and I quote him, "we aint getting that sugar free shit"
so yeah, for anyone who's looking for good offerings to these deities.
Pluto loves anything even remotely resembling apple pie and elderflower cordial, along with an apple pie candle.
Loki is an absolute sucker for anything sweet and/or chocolatey, but don't even think about sugar free anything.
Beelzebub likes a sticky toffee pudding candle, but since we only met recently I'm still trying to find stuff to offer them.
Any suggestions?
