Least favorite only child by leanna Firestone is literally Evan Buckley:
So what if I do it for attention? / would that really be so bad? - putting himself in danger as a child to feel loved
And I know I’m not a danger to myself or others / I know it’s what it sounds like / but I swear I’m not / I just wanna feel different
I couldn’t escape myself / no matter how badly I wanted to - trying out so many different jobs & trying to find himself & less trying to escape himself but more trying to escape his parents?
Idk but just song kinda reminded me of him…

I like to imagine Sam screaming the lyrics to Lana Del Rey songs when he's alone like it's a guilty pleasure for him to be so into her songs and know all the lyrics
cos come on you can't tell me Lana isn't so Sam coded
"You're sadly, crumbling / you are unfixable / I can't break through your world / your heart is unbreakable" @ Alexis??
"You're fallin' hard, I push away, I'm feelin' hot to the touch / you say you miss me and I wanna say I miss you so much / but somethin' keeps me really quiet" @ Darlin early on??
"It isn't that hard to like you or love you / I'd follow you down, down, down / you're unbelievable / if you're going crazy, just grab me and take me / I'd follow you down, down, down" @ Darlin after he realised he was in love with them???

Personal vent time
This is a purely personal complaint but I think one of the major reasons why I'm so disappointed with how things are currently going in the manga is how they kept teasing us with this "once the agency is together there isn't anything we can't do" thing and ultimately divided them again AND killed off Kunikida. They took the idea away before we even got anything 😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They even had Atsushi say this in one chapter ago which got my hopes high and now obviously it's not gonna happen with how easily Amenogozen can slurp people up. I know eventually it's gonna be a SSKK battle in the end but heck, I'd take any crumbs they would offer but give us something?? I just wanna see some ADA action, is that too much to ask for?? 😭😭

sorry but alicent hightower isn’t “ruined” this season. you people just never understood her in the first place and think of her as something she’s not lmao.
of course she’s a hypocrite, she has been the whole time. her holier than thou persona is a facade. she wants freedom of choice and, with that, sexual liberation. she gets that now with criston at the price of her own shame and guilt tied to her faith, which is real (criston’s faith, at least in the seven, is NOT, but yknow. for another time). her going for what rhaenyra got and what rhaenyra had the freedom to partake in is not character assassination lmao. It’s what’s been set up this whole time. she’s not this saint that she and her stans claim her to be. she’s variably flawed CLEARLY (which is what makes her a good character) but isn’t going to stray away from the exact thing she claims to hate.
“duty and sacrifice” and “honor and decency will prevail” are shown to the viewer to be hypocritical statements. fucking obviously. why did anyone take that at face value LMAO. All those things are what alicent herself has been forced to align with since she was a child made to marry viserys. she wants rhaenyra to ALSO fit that mould and to feel that misery that she’s felt, just as she wishes she had the freedom rhaenyra has. that doesn’t mean she believes in these ideas. she clearly goes against them; that’s her character. she believes that she believes them, but her desire to leave the mould outweighs that time and time again.
to say that she’s an outlandishly different character in s2 after seeing one singular episode is insane. she’s the same. she and criston is not a left field decision, nor is it a particularly bad one, even if it did feel abrupt (which is more a pacing issue). alicent and criston’s joint hypocrisy has been pointed out the entire time. to further highlight it is not bad writing or character ruination. you just didn’t understand them in the first place. Alicent isn’t a blushing nun. she’s a woman whose old decrepit husband is finally dead and now has the freedom she didn’t get at 17.

dystopia au? 👀
Here you go mate, sorry it's not very fleshed out oops
cw: dystopia au so general misery and pain that comes with that, and use of irl an girlfriend as a character that does not reflect my irl opinions of them!
It’s been eight months since Max last saw Daniel.
When it’s been this long, nights on end of going to sleep thinking about him and waking up from dreaming about him, but never seeing him, he worries how much of Daniel is in his head and how much can possibly be true.
On his worst days, he’ll wonder if he’s real at all, if he’s not some figment of Max’s overactive imagination, something created in desperation of a life barely worth living.
It’s happened before; drivers going mad.
It helps when he wedges his fingers down the side of his mattress and gets to run his fingertips across the worn and yellowed edge of the only picture he has of Daniel. To just feel it there. Taking it out is something that he does less, it hurts to see the blinding white of his teeth, shark-like and bared at the camera in a grin. Torn from an old Red Bull Racing programme, it’s not a real photograph. Not like one Max would take himself on a camera that nobody else would get to see.
Then always, the doubt will linger, because in the crowded rooms full of watchful eyes, it goes like-
“Hey good lookin’,” Daniel drawls with a smirk and something in his eye that Max knows better than to believe, but is exactly what Daniel is kept around for.
Max nods, and Daniel’s eyes bounce away from him, to Kelly, and then to the rest of the party. Kelly tugs him away before Max has a chance to say anything back. Not that he could, mouth bound shut. Not that he would know how to open it even without the muzzle, and not let something of the truth slip out. All the things he’d spent the last two hundred or more endless days imagining saying to Daniel.
Like, I missed you.
Max knows he doesn’t look good because that’s what Kelly's father wanted this time. For him to look skinnier at the start of the season, for his eyes to look sunken in. For it to look as though she has complete control over him, has ‘tamed,’ him, because the leash around his fucking neck is not enough. He’d heard the gasp when they first entered the room, when she paraded him right through the center of it.
They circle the party so that enough people see them together, another part of the show. The car Max will drive this season, which Daniel might get to drive a handful of times if he’s lucky, is spinning on a podium, lights beaming down so harshly that they make the paintwork glitter. It used to excite Max, when he had nothing else he cared about. Fingers itching to touch the body of it, one front wing enough to feed his family for a year if sold in the right place, not that it mattered once he’d made it. It was part of the deal of being a driver, that your family ate well.
Now, looking at it makes him tired.
He tries to both catch Daniel’s eye desperately, and to not look at him at all in varying intervals. Every time their eyes do meet, Daniel’s slide away as though there is nothing to see where Max stands, and Max tries to tell himself that it’s okay. That it is just because Daniel is just as good as playing the game as the FIA is. It’s always been Max who never got the rules.
You’re too fucking sweet, Daniel had panted over him once, holding Max’s hands down against the bed, above his head. Like it was a bad thing, dangerous. Something that might mean Max could hurt Daniel where not many people can anymore.
They make Max go on stage, and Kelly makes them let her lead him up there, too. He says some words about how grateful he is for the opportunity to drive for the FIA, that he hopes they can win another year to bring honour to Red Bull Racing, and when he looks for Daniel in the crowd, he can’t see him anywhere.
-
Alone, it goes like-
“Hey Maxy,” Daniel says, voice hardly above a whisper but so gentle that all of Max’s doubts gush from him, water rushing back from the shore into the sea.
He opens his arms as soon as the door to his compartment is shut behind Max, and stepping into them is like a blissful lobotomy, everything outside of the room wiped from memory.
For these stolen moments there is just the two of them, their touch moulding each other new again.
“Checo, I do not think he will be driving so well,” Max says later, sweat cooling on his back where he lies against Daniel’s chest. Ear pressed against it so he can hear the thump of his heart, slowing now they’re no longer desperately moving against one another.
It feels a little cruel to wish for that, Checo out, when they all know what happens when you leave the FIA for good. He isn’t Daniel, nobody will paying him for his time and keeping him around.
But Daniel only hums, fingertips tracing over Max’s back. Years ago, when they first started this, Max would concentrate in silence and try to work out if they were letters, a secret message. Now they just feel like random patterns.
“If he did, you could be back in the car all the time,” Max tries again, but still nothing. “This would be better, do you not think, if you could-“
“Maxy, baby, let’s- Let’s not, okay?” Daniel interrupts, sounding drained.
“But- But Daniel, then they wouldn’t-“
The FIA would still let people hire Daniel, if they wanted, but there’d be less hurt. It’s too hard to drive a car and perform well with broken ribs, with bruises on your tailbone. With- With worse.
“Sweetheart, I don’t want to think about racing,” Daniel sighs, and then he’s untangling himself from Max to sit upright, legs kicking round to dangle off the bed. For a moment, Max’s heart stops and he thinks desperately, please don’t go, we still have until morning, but then he sees that Daniel is just lighting a cigarette.
Then he’s getting back in beside Max, pulling him back close.
“I don’t want to think about racing,” he repeats, like he thinks Max will risk their time together fighting him on this.
“Well what do you want to talk about?” Max asks instead, looking up and watching Daniel inhale smoke through his lungs, then exhale it from his nostrils, plumes of it billowing from them like he is a dragon who could breathe fire.
Closing his eyes, Daniel sinks further into the pillows.
“Australia,” he says, and Max smiles.
This is a game Max knows how to play.
“I am almost done fixing the fence in the sheep’s pen,” he begins, tracing his own patterns on the skin of Daniel’s chest, connecting the bruises to mak constellations of pain. “I think I will just need your help to lift the gate back onto it’s hinges tomorrow morning.”
Daniel hums again, then says, “okay Maxy, but after I want to go to the beach. Think you’ll have time to make us some food to take down there, if we pack the blanket?”
Max nods, face pressed so close to Daniel’s chest his lips catch on his skin as he speaks.
“For you, I can make the time,” he promises, like it’s not one thing on a list of many that they never have enough of.

I don't know if it's canon and I didn't get it or if it's just my theory. Nevertheless, I can't help but think that the Pale in Disco Elysium is literally because of Harry ('s alcoholism? retrograde amnesia?), and that the world itself (reality) is a creation of the mind. The creators said they wanted to create a game that could be a "mind simulator", I think it truly is.
To explain myself, when Harry talks to Joyce about the Pale, she explains to him that it's a sort of nothingness that is growing, spreading, although no one really knows much about it. It is the "negation of being" and the opposite of matter. It constitutes 72% of the world (the rest being "isola"(e?), continents of matter).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therefore, we know the Pale surrounds whole and real continents.
Also, when Harry talks to the Programmer, they realise that the triangle of silence is kind of a "hole in reality" : they come to the conclusion that it is part of the Pale.
Joyce also says that although it is the opposite of matter, it is not really part of reality (which makes sense as only something that is not part of reality could create a hole within reality).
Tumblr media
So the Pale is the enemy of matter, but also the opposite of reality. In this sense, and because it generally is defined this way, I think reality could be defined as matter. And it would be why Joyce opposes it to the Pale. Moreover, what we generally oppose to matter in turn, is the mind, belief, thoughts, emotions, what is not physically.
When Harry enters the book club, he has to read a book about infra-materialism in order to officially get accepted by the two communist members. In the book, it is written that Nielsen thought communism as a way to change reality itself through the power of the mind. Basically, if enough people became communists, the collective mind could - by thinking about it - wrap reality to make it the way they wanted. Although, he alone had a mind that was apparently powerful enough which is why he could be help communism so much, understand reality better, and he would've had superpowers (levitation, reading other people's mind).
The theory had different stages (depending on the strength of your mind, how hard you trained it, and the faith you had in communism I think it was?). It enabled the believer to modify reality, as it could make them read the mind or levitate like Nielsen is rumored to have done (which further shows somehow everything can be within reach and pliable).
In any case, there's this strong belief that the mind is superior to reality because it is the one commanding the other how it should look like.
The two students thought that the reason this world is so poor, sad, at war and litteraly going toward its destruction is because of the capital, and especially because it corrupts the mind. It would've made the collective mind think about a world that can only be despair, and by thinking about it, feeding the existence of such a world. And I guess it could be since, in the game, communism seems to be an answer to the end of the world, and the only way for Harry and the other caracters to have hope.
Tumblr media
This idea that belief and thoughts create reality can then be backed up by the discussion with the Programmer. She says that the triangle of silence should normally keep expanding, that it has been there for a long time. And then, with Harry, they talk about how it explains why the church is here. That the building was specifically built to contain the expansion of the Pale.
Because the church is a place of faith, only something that is home to intense thoughts and beliefs could battle against the opposite of reality.
Therefore reality is both matter and created by the mind : it is the material consequence of thought (and especially the collective mind, as it has been said that the more people believe in something, the stronger the thought is and the more reality instantly follows).
Back to the first point. The list of people authorised to travel through the Pale is very short. Harry only knows two : Joyce and the Paledriver. We learn, through Joyce, and confirmed by the driver, that the Pale is a place that can lead people to insanity if exposed for too long to it. But when you travel through, you also get access to all this knowledge. The Paledriver, because she often goes inside it, has many memories that are not hers.
Tumblr media
Joyce who also gets through it for many days at a time, has gotten more access to things around her (as she has probably seen many realities though other people's memories). Because she has seen more through the Pale, she appreciates the world that she lives in better.
Tumblr media
What she sees "great bodies of water [...]" can be memories from the Pale. Those memories both her and the Paledriver have acquiered are proofs of what dwells in this nothingness. It is the "negation of being" not only because it isn't, but because it no longer is. And the past isn't, as the memories belong to the past.
Which brings me to my most important point. I think this is why Harry is the one that caused the quickened expansion of the Pale. We know he has no memories left, and his condition worsened as he got two full blackouts before getting retrograde amnesia for good (and it seriously sounds like offerings to the Pale).
When he talks to the Insulindian Phasmid, it says that the Pale is a human creation. It says that it came with the arrival of the human mind but "no one remembers it before [Harry]". The Pale had stagned and maybe no one used to see it or be bothered by it anymore, but then the lieutenant came along. And the Phasmid says that all animals and plants are convinced he will "destroy us all".
Tumblr media
Also, the Phasmid talks about how Harry has "creation reflected in [his] forebrain". The forebrain being known for being in neurology the preferential centre of the impulsivity control, agressivity control and some even talk about it being the centre for all that gives us our personality. Harry has absolute jack shit in impulsivity or aggressivity control and he does not remember enough of who he is to have a constant personality (remember as the Pale is the "negation of being", and certainly Harry is that when it comes to all that). His brain, because it reflects, is like a mirror to the Pale and he has a part in its creation.
Tumblr media
Also could the "holes in reality" be caused by Harry because of the many holes he has in his memory (as they would be reflected right back onto the Pale)? If it was, we have to understand the relationship between reality and the Pale, and Harry's role in BOTH of them.
The Pale offers knowledge and somehow Harry is able to discuss with the hanged man, with the Phasmid, with objects. And he gets all this knowledge from them and it has always turned out to be true or highly plausible. He has never gone inside the Pale himself, but he stills has the knowledge (because his link to the Pale is strong). This somehow means also that he can really turn reality the way he wants it (but it stays reality because it keeps a general coherence : for instance the fact that the infos that should be impossible to obtain are true). If he alone can bend reality to his will, then he has a strong mind like Masov and Nielsen had before him.
This is emphasised by the whole concept of division by functions of conscience (i.e encyclopedia, savoir faire, esprit de corps, reaction speed etc). Not only do he talk to them, but they all have faces, distinct personalities, voices, and they can interact with each other. They are just as real to Harry and the player than anyone else.
We also know he has the ability to change reality because if the player chooses to become communist, he will dream about the revolution. Conscience tells him it has 0.000% probability of occuring but the night after (or immediately after saying yes I don't remember), it already changes to 0.001%.
Also, in philosophy, spiritualistic ideologies sometimes talk about how reality only exists through one's perception. In the game, we definitely have Harry's perception (because it is a mind simulator, everything is deeply filtered through him). Harry has dumb and impulsive thoughts that can turn into litteral quests, when he has no moral left, the world gets really dark (an total invasion of the Pale?), his dreams looks just as real as everything else, we get access to immaterial/dead/non-talking minds.
+ the black aura that always clouds our vision : everywhere you go there is a black filter at the edges. It can be the Pale lurking or it could be that the world is Harry's perception. When I mean his perception I mean in the literal sense of the word : if it gets too far from him it's dark because reality is exists only if you percieve it and his eye sight can only go so far.
If it is though, then the Pale also is. And since Harry is sad and got worse throughout the years, it got worse at the same time there. His memory holes expanded the already existent holes disrupting reality.
Anyway, tell me if it makes sense. Or if there is other explanations for these things.
