Ok, so...the idea was...post season 4, Annie is out of Jail, she is free...rio helps her to go out of jail...and well brio talk about everything since they now eachother, specially about everyhting bad happen between them and in conclusion, they agree that they want the same things...being together but for that they promess to let the past, past and don't talk about it anymore....Brio established relationship, everyone is happy but.....Beth didn't tell to Ruby that she dates Rio and...surprise...Ruby and Stan come back to town, for living it again...and it's cool, but she learned that brio is a things and isn't happy at all about that!

Ruby and Stan come back because they know Beth just stop working with Rio..She lets him do his things, but they not really working together anymore, not like that.

But... Ruby gonna be very mad..and they gonna fight...And...my idea was..Beth broke up with Rio (not for long), not because she wants but because she doesn't want loose her bestfriend again and is the good things to do (wrong)

Fortunatly Annie, who is okay with brio relationship (at the end, she kind of like him...well not really but he makes Beth happy and he is not trashman, so it's enough for her), gonna have a talk with Ruby, and she gonna make her understand that Rio makes Beth happy, and it's the only things who matters, and that he never gonna hurt her or them!!!!!

After that, Ruby and Annie gonna find Rio for talking to him because he doesn't want to talk to Beth..i mean his heart is broken once again by this woman so... and because once again she didn’t choose him, but this time it’s worst because it’s more personal (sad Rio...i’m gonna make myslef cry)!!!!!

And well...Stan and Rio gonna meet and after all this angst (see what you and @bourbon-ontherocks do to me...i write angst now and a lot^^), happy ending!!! (of course)

It’s so unfair that the season that has Ruby AND Bela is so short :(((. I was done with it waaaay too quickly, and now I’m speed running through s4 xD (which, like the first time around, is Strong Mixed Feelings territory).

-My girl Ruby!!!! I was so happy to have her back, I kept grinning like a loon every time she was on screen. It’s quite interesting watching the 1.0 and 2.0 versions so close to each other, instead of as they air. I have... Thoughts, on whether Ruby as a double agent was something planned or that they decided as they went, but that’s for the s4 post. s3!Ruby really doesn’t come across as one (“I don’t believe in the devil” oh I wish sometimes xD, I love my nonbelievers), imo, but the beauty of such a device is that you can rationalize anything she does as devious if you want to xD

And it goes without saying that I love her interactions with Sam. THIS SHIP ISTG. I love how immediately ~attuned to her he is lol, his present and instinctive concern for her even if he tries to mask his interest as “practical”. And all the repeated times Sam’s conflicted between her and Dean -like when he deviates Dean shot (wasting one of the Colt’s bullets lmfao) or during the argument about the virgin sacrifice xD. And the “that’s my boy”/ “little fallen angel on your shoulder” quotes!!! Ruby 1.0 deserved to be railed by Sam too, smh.

My favourite episode of hers is “Jus in Bello” (which would be my fave of the season just by virtue of having both Bela and Ruby in the same episode lol. Not interacting, of course, the world as we know it wouldn’t have survived). I just love that she gets that final moment of I TOLD YOU SO to the brothers xD. I really like how she expands on the demonic lore of the show- I love, LOVE the detail about how all demons used to be humans, how they’re souls corrupted in hell. And that in her past life she was a witch (there was this really good fic in Spanish fandom about it... I need to hunt it down).

BTW, though I think her interactions with Dean in that episode are interesting, it really hammers home how much I hate him sometimes xD. Can you stop saying misogynistic slurs for TWO GODDAMN MINUTES, DEAN (and as we know from as early as this season, only HE can have demon/monster friends!! What a fucking hypocrite xD). I freaking love the moment in the finale when she viciously yells him about how she wishes she could see him in hell lmao (and how it foreshadows that when she shows sympathy later, it’s actually Lilith in disguise lmfao). I hate Dean gets the last word in their dynamic, tbqh. Until the s15 cameo, at least xDD

One thing that’s been bothering me xD: the French fries. Demons are vulnerable to salt, like other spirits, right? (and hey, look what a nice piece of foreshadowing that was). How does that translate to food lol. Because Ruby adores French fries, and they obviously contain salt. It’s like spicy food for humans? Or like pineapple? Inquiring minds etc. xD

-I still cannot believe Bela Talbot was only on the show for six episodes lmao. Her presence still lingers in the watchers’ heads so much?? Which is understandable because she’s Lead Girl Material if there was ever any lol. The care with which they styled her even?? You don’t do that for just any character lmao (I mean, just look at most of SPN’s female characters for comparison xD).

Her ship with Dean could’ve really been something, too -even if I hate Dean in it, I can’t deny it packs a punch, narrative-wise. I mean, the Batcat undertones alone!! The fake married undercover shenanigans!! And I think it’s really interesting that she’s such a blind spot for him; Dean’s unusually intuitive about people, but with Bela he takes everything at face value and she can fool him like no other (while, OTOH, is Sam who questions her facade and wants to see more). If he hadn’t been such an idiot (and such an asshole) he could’ve had a really powerful ship. Sucks to be him lol.

Anyway. Man, I love her. So much. I love how Gordon’s threats to kill her don’t work on her, and I love that the show basically said “Bela killing her abusive parents is good, actually” (I’m so tired of forgiveness narratives, you guys. This entire show is founded on revenge, so let me get my revenge fantasies in peace!!) xDD. And I love, LOVE that she withheld that truth from Dean, that she decided he wasn’t worth it. OTOH, you know, fuck the fans that got her written out, definitely; but on the other, I do love how her story ended (and that it was a clear "fuck you" to shitty fans). Doesn’t stop me for wanting to read and re-read (and maybe write!) even more “Bela escapes hell” fix-its, but still.

Also, very important question: what happened to her cat?? It’s the cat alright?? I’m going to headcanon that she left them with that cougar friend of hers lol.

-So. THE DEAL. Okay. Oof. I love this storyline, a lot. A loooot. I love the conflict it creates between the brothers (as long as there’s still conflict and Sam hasn’t yet started taking everything lying down I can enjoy that part of their narrative lol). I love Dean’s initial forced giddiness about “making the most out of his last year” and I love the moment Dean decides he does want to try to live because it makes the last few episodes all the most desperate and cruel (and hey, I’ve heard he only went to hell because the season was cut short due to a writers’ strike... if that’s true that’s so funny lmao).

My absolutely favourite part however? That you can FEEL Dean’s unvoiced resentment towards Sam. For Dean having to die for him, even if Sam never asked him to. He lashes out to Sam repeatedly through the season, but it really came to ahead in the dreamspace episode, where Dean confronts another version of himself that talks about how Sam was “dotted on” (the revisionism asldfkaf). This show is absolutely ruthless when it comes to showing you its characters’ ugly, unfair reactions to things and it’s my favourite thing evah.

Speaking of the dreamspace episode, OMFG. I loved both brothers there. Dean’s hallucination, seeing himself as a demon? And how he let out his anger about John?? Beautiful, truly (regarding John, I also loved their different reactions when it looked like his spirit had contacted them: Dean jumping on it and Sam detached skepticism). But my favourite part has to be when Sam uses the villain’s abusive father against him. Like. Damn. That was cold-blooded o.0

The second-to-last episode, when Sam tracked down that Frankenstein doctor to try and make Dean immortal was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING OMG. I loved that. I love that Sam wanted to use it for both them. It was some scary shit. I also love the scene where the crossroads demon questions whether Sam really wants to break the deal, I’m gathering it’s going to be nice foreshadowing later on in the show lol.

Anyway. I also found Dean’s death scene more impactful than Sam’s. Partially because of the horror of it, but mostly because I think at this type of scenes, Padalecki is better. Sam’s grief felt more real, Dean’s got me out of the scene (it’s the voice, I think. Sometimes Ackles’ voice takes me out of scenes, it sounds... forced).

I also really enjoyed how the time loop episode wrapped around this subplot. It managed to be both heartbreaking and mind-numbly hilarious lmfao. Like?? All the deaths?? Were so pathetic?? I tip my hat to Ackles because I don’t think most actors could carry plots like this half as well lmfao.

Sidenote, it’s always a trip to see The Trickster God knowing that fucker is Gabriel. Archangel “hey Mary do you accept God knocking you up” Gabriel. Which I guess isn’t exactly a thing in this show?? Since according to the wikia SPN Jesus was “just a man” (and let me tell you, I’m tickled pink by the fact that out of ALL mythological figures, specifically all CHRISTIAN mythological figures, the show decided to go “nah” on Jesus Christ. I mean, I guess he’d take away from Dean’s, Sam’s and Castiel’s resurrection narratives, but still. It’s so funny!!).

-Gordon Walker remains a superbly acted and fascinating character with extra racist nonsense alsdkfjasdf. But I can’t deny I loved seeing him as a vampire. He was terrifying. And I’m definitely shipping him with Kubrick, ouch xD

-The Ghostfacers episode is... something. As in, incredibly exploitative and homophobic and with an egregious case of BYG (and the first where I’d say it’s incontestable to claim the trope was used. s1 and s2 are muddy territory given the circumstances, IMO, but this one is 300% BYG), but so successfully manipulative my heart hurt for Corbett and Corbett x Ed still. Fuck them for that ngl. I do still enjoy how anti-Winchesters they all are though xD

-3x01 introduces the one nice marriage of hunters so far, between a black couple. The man dies in a gross, horrifying way within the episode ofc (because he was Mean to the the brothers duh). She makes it out alive, and since she doesn’t reappear in the show she gets to live. So for now black women have a sliiiiiightly better track record in SPN than track guys there: they get to appear in a few more episodes and be more fleshed out (Victor, Gordon), but as long as they’re only in one episode they get to live!! (Cassie, Tamara).

-Rufus and Bobby are exes, right? Right?? Probably still married in some state? You know that post about how when gay marriage was legalized across the USA there were a lot of issues because some couples had split and never bothered to divorce, since it was only legal in one place? That post was made for them. Pity Rufus is a black man, and as such has a limited number of allowed appearances before he’s killed off ¬¬

-I would’ve enjoyed Dean’s moments with Lisa and Ben more (it’s just so RIGHT that in this moment he’d want Ben to be his) if my knowledge of future spoilers didn’t perpetually have me in a state of “pls keep this guy away from kids” lol.

-They had Harmony’s actress (BTVS) and they made her a vampire!! The show’s hard on for the Buffyverse is a bit of a hit and miss but I can’t say I don’t relate xDD.

-I know Jensen Ackles can sing (in fact thanks to youtube I know a few of the actors can... is there a musical episode. Does this show have its own OMWF. I need to know). So why. WHY. Does he sound like that during “Dead or Alive”??? I actually like the scene but he sounds so off-key lmao.

-BTW, I found out that apparently Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan originally auditioned for each other’s roles añslkdfjasf. I can’t picture it. Ruby 1.0 is Ruby 1.0 and Bela is Bela xD. Although I’ve seen each playing roles that could meld with the other, just. Nope. Good choice on the casting there lol.

oh no maayan i'm so sorry for spoiling!!!!! i don't want to dissuade you from finishing the show because overall i do quite like it but (without giving too much away) this season was a bit of a letdown for me. i think maybe it was a combination of not so great writing, bad storyline choices and the previous season ending earlier than expected because of covid which left stuff feeling incomplete going into s4. after watching the finale it did feel like beth was the only one given a satisfying ending in terms of the arc of the season and i was left wanting more for rio, ruby(+stan) and annie. though, i don't know if at the time of writing and shooting the s4 finale they knew it would be the series finale so maybe that's why it didn't feel like a good wrap for every character???

Y’all ever think about, like... 

If at the beginning of season four, Cas had only pulled out Dean’s body (all they really needed for the Michael sword, anyway) but left his soul in hell? Like what happened with Sam in S6? 

Because now I’m thinking about it. 

Bobby is the first person Dean meets again, and I don’t think it would have taken Bobby longer than a day to figure out something was off about Dean. Heck, he probably would have noticed it within the first hour of talking to him. Because he’s Bobby, and because he knows Dean, knows that kid’s heart better than Dean knows it, himself. And he’d know if Dean’s moral compass and his ability to love were suddenly absent. 

Imagine Sam, lost as he was in S4, dealing with this version of his brother. 

Imagine Dean, without his soul, being absolutely fine with using Ruby however they saw fit. Imagine him being fine with Sam drinking demon blood, because hey, might as well use it to their advantage, right? Give them an edge. And Sam knows something is wrong with his brother, but he’s happy Dean agrees with what he’s doing with Ruby. So he tells himself it’s fine, that Dean is just different after being in hell. 

And then think about the day they DID get Dean’s soul back. What would it be like? Would there be any humanity left to it? Every month that passes topside is an additional ten years he spends downstairs, getting better at and more okay with torturing other souls. Would Dean’s soul become a demon? Would it reach the point where it was beyond saving? 

Pls think about this with me; it’s killing me softly.

1. What season did you start watching Supernatural? I started watching in 2014, after I came across a re-run of Changelings. Before that, I’d heard of the show, but didn’t think anything of it except that the leads are pretty hot^^. Changelings got me hooked so fast though, I thought, there’s a show in which every episode is like a little horror story niice:D. This episode is still one of my faves tbh, the monster-kids were so creepy. Yeah, then I heard sth of the angel that marches into the show in S4 and I just wanted to binge to his introduction tbh:P.

2. Who was the first character you fell in love with? Dean, I’d say. At first, he was this standard macho male lead but it shone through pretty fast that there was more to it than the stereotypical action hero, like all the times he tried so desperately to keep his little family together.. it just breaks your heart, oh Dean<3

3. Who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love? hmm.. Bela? I think I grew to love her in my first rewatch, because then I learned to appreciate characters who made life hard for the boys:P (I didn’t ‘hate’ her though, that’s a little too strong..) And Crowley is a little more difficult, since I liked him at first, then totally disliked him for all the shit he pulled in S8 with Kevin and Linda and Sarah and then I liked him again.. he’s a tough one to like^^  Maybe Amara? I just hate what they did with the ‘romantic’ non-consensual bond with Dean and think she has so much more potential than what they did with her, because her arc was pretty inconsistent tbh.. In retrospect.. I probably can’t love her because I kinda have a grudge at this whole thing but I appreciate the (largely unused) potential she brought on the table..

4. Which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with? uhmm.. I would say Cas but I want him to date Dean so:P Jimmy? Kevin? Benny? idk I don’t really think about this kinda thing... I love the characters but I don’t imagine dating them, you know?

5. If you could go on a date with just one character, which one would you choose? One date? Dean would probably be a total gentleman;)

6. What would you do on that date? Dinner and a movie?:P And I don’t do LARPing but I bet it would be fun with Dean. Or Charlie. Or both;)

And Alicia, because her death gave me a weird sort of bitterness.. she was such a fun character with so much potential behind her and without her Max is just a depressing character to me so yeah.

a thing about rw.by

this is a whatever. not a meta or a theory or really a well-thought out critique. if anything I guess im just voicing my frustrations. if you like rw.by, please, please dont read this. you wont like what i have to say and i am in no way looking to upset rw.by fans, i just need a good old fashioned shout into the void. theres some things i liked in here too that actually came out whilst writing aha, so its not all my bullshit.

my main gripe with rw.by at the moment is the lack of character development for ruby rose. you know, the main character? which i think is the reason why my heart breaks a little that i dont love it as much as i used to. i identified so much with ruby. a little girl with a heart too big for her brain, who just wants to protect and help, having to come to terms with the fact that the real world doesnt make noble goals like that easy? thats my childhood right there. 

the latter is something that hasnt been touched on as far as ruby rose’s character development goes until this season, and even then it hasnt really been touched, or lightly brushed, its been mentioned. ruby thought saving the world wouldnt take that long, that the world wasnt as big as it is; she apologises to jaune for dragging jnpr along with her. all INCREDIBLE MOMENTS I was really happy about, but they werent expanded upon. it was like the writers wanted to hit a checklist of ‘make sure the audience knows ruby is naive and sad but hopeful’ rather than making it more engaging to learn about as aspects of her character, which is just lazy storytelling. 

show, dont tell. they’ve done that with juane. they’ve shown that he’s upset about phyrra’s death, they’ve shown him get mad at the situation and with qrow. he’s never outright voiced these things about his character like ruby has about herself, and we all knew she was a little naive. season one, weiss accusing ruby of being a bad leader and them showing the audience ruby trying to get better was so much better than just having her be like ‘im a little naive but ill fight for the greater good!’ like she has so blatantly been this series. 

like, why would she not get mad at her own uncle for keeping her in the dark about someone wanting to kill her?? ruby’s what, 16 at this point? 15 at the least? would she not at least be a little bit annoyed, and would that not show some character growth on her part if she was? my naivety ended, personally, when i stopped trying to be so dang optimistic, (this can become more complicated to explain, as obviously you still have to have hope in the world while keeping a level head and ruby is still young, but, thats another conversation) and if that moment hasnt happened for ruby after 1. penny dying 2. phyrra dying 3. her uncle keeping important information from her 4. her sister having her arm sliced off 5. her friends being split up from her 6. nearly dying to a foe way more powerful than she is, even with her silver eyes -- then when?! 

and lets just get it out of the way -- i dont fucking hate juane. i really, really like him as a character but i just fucking wish he got less of a spotlight because so much more attention is being payed to him and his journey and how everything affects him over ruby. it just is, and it sucks. i like theorising about his semblance, im pretty certain he’s really fucking powerful just like ruby is, but if he unlocks and masters his thing before ruby does i will be so pissed, and the only reason i say that is because it feels like thats the way its headed. 

juane is a lovely character. he’s heroic, he’s actually quite brave and smart, and he’s a good fucking friend. he’s a brilliant support character. but for the love of all that is holy, focus more on ruby when they’re in the same scene. about how he’s helping her on her journey, why could they not have had one conversation about phyrra on screen is my question. they did it really, really well it season one, and i was very loud about the fact that no, juane doesnt get more screen time or attention, but during season four it feels like he -- like everyone that isnt ruby or the other three titular characters -- has over ruby. 

just, please, rwby season five -- give ruby rose more character development. prove me fucking wrong and reveal that you were playing the long game, please.

also; i havent watched the last two episodes, but if it turns out the ‘’’cure’’’ to yangs ptsd is a new arm. fuck, man. please no. but i cant really comment on that yet so, we’ll see. i actually, up until seeing the preview for her spraying her arm and all that, really liked yangs journey. and taiyang is such a sweetheart i adore him. he was so patient and gentle and loving with yang, a few moments had me cringing but overall, an enjoyable part of the season. i hope yang gets to punch adam in the face. 

blake’s journey is one ive enjoyed also. and tbh, i think sun following her and thinking she was on a personal mission to take down the white fang is a very sun thing to do, and i think blake surprising us all by saying no im not gonna do that is a very blake thing as well. sun is spontaneous, carefree to a point and very dedicated to taking down bad guys. projecting that onto blake was his mistake, and im really glad that blake is the one to voice the audiences frustrations at how annoying it is that he follows and harrasses her into taking action (even when a part of us knows that she should -- a really, really well written aspect of blakes journey actually, i really liked it) (sun really needs to have a ‘okay im being a creep im really sorry’ moment but i dont see it happening. again; prove me wrong, guys.)

blake so, so needed to see her family. im glad she could see that and im not surprised that she wanted to run under the guise of ‘resting’ like. come on blake, we all know you’re scared shitless. her characterisation was on point, probably the most out of the four girls. blake was a+ in this season and im really happy about that, come to think of it aha. i hope she gets to punch adam too.

weiss im satisfied with too, although i really wish that ironwood and her got to talking. he didnt necesarily need to save the day for her, i would think that a guy fighting her own battles -- even if it is a ‘good one’ like ironwood -- would irk her, so it wouldve been nice for them to talk. (im still fucking salty about juanes ‘you can have her’ to neptune like lmao fuck off you fucking dudebros THAT WAS SO ANNOYING anyway) weiss being able to call off the thing she summoned before it hurt the lady would be a sign that yeah she’s getting strong but she’s learning control, so. shrug. 

papa schnee is an asshole, where is mama schnee?? and i FUCKING LOVED THE PLOT POINT THAT HER DAD MARRIED INTO THE FAMILY. please let this be an opening for a badass but subdued for Reasons mama schnee (although my hope is not that high)

my main, number one, OVERALL problem with rwby since the end of s3 to s4 is that they dont give the characters that need and deserve the most time and attention just that. i know its a small crew, i know that what they do and the time they do it in is amazing and admirable, and i do admire it and applaud it, they work so fucking hard and deserve praise for that. but they dont use their time wisely when it comes to assigning it in the narrative. and thats more of a writing issue, anyway. 

and another fucking thing. the majority of the interesting characters that arent the main four and are alive and have been developed or made mysterious enough to warrant interest from the audience are fucking men. and yeah, no duh jade, welcome to every piece of media for fucking ever. qrow is an asshole that everyone loves, raven is probably going to turn out to be a bitch -- the majority of salem’s ‘court’ or whatever are dudes. ironwood. ren got backstory over nora. blakes dad. adam taurus. for all that i love him, fucking juane. did we learn anything about phyrra that wasnt her explicitly telling us her backstory? no. we felt sad that she died because of her connections with other people, but, lets face it, mostly juane. im still adamant that she didnt die just for him, that she knew there was a bigger picture and genuinely loved him, but from a narrative pov him and his reactions was a bigger focus point especially in the aftermath with season 4. 

(ruby fucking unlocked an ANCIENT POWER BECAUSE SHE SAW PHYRRA DIE AND SHE DOESNT GET TO HAVE THE SAME EMOTIONAL SCENE ABOUT IT THAT JUANE GOT??? PLS LAST TWO EPISODES. GIVE HER THAT AT LEAST. PROVE ME WRONG.) 

i remember at a rwby panel at rtx one year, when asked about making a series that has four female protaganists, the guys said that they didnt see it that way, that they were just writing a story about a bunch of kids and yeah, i get that. but its not. 

its a story about four strong, tested, young women and they need to stop being oblivious to that because the narrative is fucking suffering.

Those are fair points, but you gotta draw the line somewhere before you either become like them or worse.

“Well, perhaps I've been down here with them for too long. There's seemingly nothing but chaos. But not all bad comes from it. Art. Hope. Love. Dreams.”

“But those are human things.”

“Yes.”

4. How do you structure your plots (if if they just sort of happen, how do they end up being structured)?

I don’t know if I have a real structure in mind when I write, but I do think I end up scaffolding stories on emotional beats most of the time. I find them really important on pretty much every level – from broader narrative, to character, to scene, to sentence.

I’ve talked about it a bit on here before when I’ve talked about writing, but when I get an idea for something, I tend to ask that idea ‘why’ a lot. The pornstar au is actually probably a good example of this. I knew that I wanted to write a fic where Beth and Rio worked in porn, but I wanted it to feel authentic to both of their characters in canon, and I wanted it to be a real story. 

A lot of that came down to working out where Beth and Rio were in their lives emotionally, and building those emotional beats into touchstones that drove the story forwards – from Beth’s desperation and exhaustion to her determination, all of which was centred around her divorce and her need to provide for her children, to Rio being exhausted himself by the job, and motivated to get out of the industry out of a desire to protect his own child as he grew old enough to be aware of what it was he did for a living. That becoming the connecting thread for Beth and Rio to drive the last act of the story was something I really wanted, because it felt true to both of them.

Once I sort of locked in where those emotional beats sat in the story, the rest of it just sort of draped across it.

5.  Do you know how your story ends before you start writing?

This actually follows on pretty well from the last point, haha, but I do know the feeling I want people to take away from a story, so I know the emotional beat I want it to end on, but no, I don’t usually know exactly what that scene looks like before I start writing.

7.  What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain?

It’s actually one of my favourite bits of writing advice ever, anon, and that is “conflict is better and richer when both sides are right.” 

I’m not that into ‘big bad’ characters like Darth Vader or Voldemort. They function as foils for characters, as something to be overcome, but I generally find them pretty boring? 

It’s like - - okay, take Mary Pat vs Boomer on Good Girls. One of the things that makes Mary Pat an excellent villain is she’s right. Beth, Ruby and Annie used her, and they got caught, and Mary Pat took advantage of that by doing something just a bit more ruthless than what Beth, Ruby and Annie were doing. It makes her - I think - pretty damn great and it makes her conflict with the girls richer and more layered and dynamic (and I would like more of her in s4 pls). Boomer is successful in other ways as a villain, as he’s insidious and allows the show to explore themes it obviously wants to like male entitlement and ego and how that damages women, but he’s a less interesting bad guy. 

So yeah! Motivate your villains! Make them right sometimes, and then see how that affects your protagonist.
