You were going to miss these moments of tenderness.

He made you sit up, just enough so you could drink the water that he had prepared for you. You took a small sip, to which Leon encouraged you to “drink a bit more, sweetheart,” so you did, and when he was pleased, the glass returned to its spot on the bedside table, and shortly after he was crawling underneath the comforter with you.

The warmth of the comforter and Leon’s body next to yours made it even more difficult for you to stay awake. Leon saw you struggling, catching the way you would doze off and then immediately wake yourself back up.

“Please, rest.” He muttered into your hair. You hugged him tighter.

“Do you have to go?” You asked him, even though you knew the answer.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” Was all Leon could say in response.

You felt a lonely tear roll down your cheek yet again. But you were far too exhausted to cry some more. Instead, you sat up, looking at Leon intently. He returned your direct eye contact, sitting up himself to lean against the headboard and match your height.

“Promise me,” You started, holding out your hand. Without hesitation, Leon held it, locking your fingers together and giving your hand a slight squeeze.

“Promise me you’ll come back home.” You asked him, like you always did before he left for a mission. Every single time, he would give you the same answer.

“I promise.” He replied firmly. You knew deep down that asking Leon to make promises like this was unrealistic. He never fully understood what he was getting himself into until he arrived at the mission location – and you knew that despite his skills as a trained government agent, accidents always happened, and there was no way to know when things would go awry when he’s out in the middle of nowhere. But hearing him utter those two words before he left eased your worries just enough.

Trusting Leon was always easy.

“I love you.” You said softly, fitting back into Leon’s side perfectly, like you belonged there.

“I know, sweetheart. I know.” Leon replied, before tilting your chin up with two gentle fingers and kissing you with a fiery passion. You two lazily kissed each other until sleep started pulling you into its dark embrace. You didn’t fight it this time, resting your head on Leon’s chest and drifting away to the sound of his steady heartbeat.

The next morning, the two of you shared one last breakfast. You mostly sat in comfortable silence. You asked a couple questions about the mission, but didn’t get straight answers – it was confidential. You knew that already but always liked to ask questions anyway.

Right as Leon was about to walk out of your door, you stopped him. You took a few moments just to stare at him – he was as handsome as the day you fell in love with him.

You brushed some hair out of his face, kissing him slowly, savoring the feeling of his lips on yours for these last few minutes. When you pulled away, you were sporting a warm smile, feeling your eyes sting as tears threatened to spill. You kept them at bay.

“Don’t you dare–” You paused, your trembling lips making it difficult to speak. When you collected yourself, breathing in and out, you continued.

“Don’t you dare ruin this jacket. I love it on you.” You said, referring to the brown leather jacket that Leon had bought himself recently and was currently wearing. He had a tendency to ruin clothing items on his missions, and you hoped this one would survive.

Leon chuckled. The sound immediately filled you with warmth. You were going to miss that sound; God knows how long you’d have to go without hearing it everyday.

“Copy that.” Leon replied, a laugh bubbling out of your throat.

You shared one more embrace. The final hug was one the both of had trouble ending. But it had to come to an end eventually.

And then, Leon was gone. All that was left was a memory.

You don’t realize Sprout’s even there until you hear his scarf shuffling against the ground and the faintest grumble: “…Didn’t think I’d find you tucked behind here like a napkin under a croissant.” He doesn’t touch you at first. He just crouches beside you, scarf draping around like a safety net. “You breathing alright?” His tone isn’t sugar coated. He means are you alive. You nod. Barely. “…Good. Then I’m gonna talk, and you don’t have to. Deal?”

➸ Sprout doesn’t do flowery speeches. He does small, grounding facts. “There’s a bakery back a few floors down that only makes star-shaped rolls. You’d hate it, too chewy.” “I left the oven on again. I think. Cosmo might be mad, but he also might forget.” “One time I fell asleep next to a bag of flour. Woke up and Cosmo was decorating my face with frosting.” He tells you about flour because it’s solid. Tangible. He wants to remind you this world has weight, has colour, has stupid sugar spills and burned crusts. You exist in it. Still.

➸ When your breath hitches again, hands shaking, Sprout mutters: “…Okay. Nope. We’re not doing this. Not alone.” He wraps his scarf around your shoulders—not tightly, but enough to feel like something is holding you together. It smells like cinnamon. It’s absurdly soft. “You’re not breaking apart. You’re here. Right now. You hear me?” His voice isn’t calm. It’s determined. Like he’s building a little barricade around you with every word.

➸ He tries to offer you a treat. Half of a scone, slightly squished. “Cosmo made these. I… helped. A little.” You don’t take it. Can’t. “…Right. Too soon.” He sets it down gently in front of you anyway. “It’s here. Like me. When you’re ready.”

➸ Sprout is not the softest Toon. He doesn’t always get how big feelings work, but when you cry, he turns his back so you don’t feel watched. Still, he stays close. Mutters: “Everyone breaks down sometimes. You think I don’t?” He shifts his scarf forward like a curtain. “I nearly cried when Cosmo burned the cinnamon rolls. Didn’t. But I almost did. Big almost.”

➸ If you start spiraling—saying things like “I’m a burden,” or “They’d be better off without me”— his entire face goes serious. He grabs a leaf from his head and dramatically waves it like a pointer: “Wrong. Wrong. Extra wrong. Do you know how many times I’ve had to stop Cosmo from putting jellybeans in soup? I need you. We need you. So no, you don’t get to say stuff like that. Not while I’m here.”

➸ Sometimes you shake so hard your teeth chatter. Sprout notices. He inches closer until he’s basically pressed against your side like a little space heater. “…You know. If this keeps happening, I’ll need to bake some kind of comfort tart. Special recipe. Maybe something that doesn’t melt like what your brain wants to do right now.” He’s not good at jokes. But he tries. For you.

➸ If you try to apologize—if you croak out “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be like this”— Sprout just sighs. “Okay, first of all. You’re not a dessert. You don’t have to come out perfect. Second… You’re not weak. You’re having a moment. That’s allowed. Third… Don’t apologise for needing help. Ever.” He bumps his head gently against yours. “Even I do, sometimes. And I’m basically amazing.”

➸ Eventually, when the shaking fades and your vision clears, Sprout stands and brushes off his scarf. “…Still breathing?” You nod. “Good. Then I’ll walk you back. I mean—uh, only if you want. But I’m not letting you stay behind this crate. Too cold. Too dusty. Weird smell.” He offers a hand. It’s stubby. Solid. Stronger than it looks.

➸ Later, when things are calm, Sprout makes a point of checking on you more. Not obviously—he’s subtle. Leaves little baked goods on your desk. Tells you about weird floor discoveries. One day, he says, “You don’t have to talk about it. But if you ever do, I’m not going anywhere. I mean it.” Then, after a beat: “…Also, I remembered to turn off the oven. So that’s a win.”

“RAFE STOP!” I shouted. JJ’s head was swinging back and forth as Rafe kept punching him. I think JJ was unconscious at this point. “GET OFF OF HIM!” Kie shouted to Rafe. JJ had blood leaking out of his nose and onto his clothes. 

“JOHN B DO SOMETHING!” I cried. Sarah was in shock at the act playing out in front of her, she was just as terrified as I was. John B and Pope finally jumped in and tried to stop the fight but they couldn’t, not until Topper and Kelce joined in and help. 

People were standing around and recording, others laughing, and some in shock. I don’t know why they were laughing, my friend is literally getting beat to a pulp of his life. 

Me and Kie both hugged each other as John B and Pope were trying to pick JJ up. “Bro, you took it too far!” Topper shouted to Rafe. “I don’t care! Next time he needs to learn to mind his fucking business!” Rafe shouted. 

I couldn’t help but to feel like it was my fault for all this happening. Me and Rafe were arguing and JJ was just trying to defend me. This was all my fault. JJ was trying to be a good friend and defend me and almost died because of it. 

“The fuck are y’all looking at?!” Rafe yelled to everyone who was recording. “We gotta go to the hospital.” Sarah said as she came running over to Kie and I. We were now walking back with Sarah to the Twinkie as Rafe came up behind us. “Where the hell do you think you’re going?” He coldly asked. “Stay the fuck away from me!” I shouted as I kept walking with the girls. Rafe then grabbed my arm as I immediately tried to snatch it back. “Don’t touch her!” Kie defended as Sarah now turned around to see all the commotion. 

“She’s my girlfriend, I can touch her however the fuck I want.” He said back as his frame now towered over me. His sweater was covered in JJ’s blood along with his rings. “Rafe, you already caused enough drama, please leave.” Sarah softly said. He simply ignored her and placed his glare back at me. “We’re leaving. Now.” He sternly said. 

I could tell he was dead serious, he was giving me that cold glare. If looks could kill I’d be dead. 

“You don’t have to go with him!” Kie said as I shook my head. I sighed before responding to her. “It’s fine..go ahead. Text me when he wakes up.” I said as I hugged the girls. “You can always stay at The Château with us.” Sarah reminded as I nodded my head. “Call us if you need anything.” Kid said as she held my hands. “Okay.” I sniffled. 

“I don’t have time for this shit.” Rafe mumbled as he yanked be my arm and dragged me back to his truck. The walk back to his truck was cold and quiet. We were now sitting in the truck as he sat there for a moment. 

“This is all your fault…you know that?” He quietly said. I didn’t answer, I just sat there and looked at him as he raised his head from the steering wheel. “Fucking answer me!” 

I flinched at the raise of his voice. He does it very often but it scared me everytime. “I know and I’m sorry!” I apologized as tears were now running down my cheeks. He then raised his hand and slapped me across my face. The slap was so hard, I felt the sting on my cheek as I started full on balling my eyes out. 

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!” I cried as the salty tears were falling into my mouth. “Stop your fucking crying!” He demanded. I tried my best but he was scaring me and I couldn’t help the tears rolling down my face. “Why do you do this to me? Huh?” He started off. “I give you everything you want in life and you still wanna be with those fucking pouges! You really wanna end up like Sarah?” He asked in disblief.

I knew I should’ve just stayed home tonight. Rafe has been following me almost everywhere these past few weeks and its starting to get really annoying. 

“Rafe I was just saying hi to JJ and you practically beat the life outa him.” I cautiously said. “He’s not your fucking friend Y/n, how many times do I have to tell you shit like this?” He stressed. “He’s been my friend since 1st grade, Rafe..” I winced. 

“The only reason he’s still friends with you is so he can fuck you!” He yelled as he hit the steering wheel. How could Rafe even think that? I’ve never had anything romantic with JJ, he’s literally Kie’s boyfriend for fucks sake. “Its not like that.” I said as he rolled his eyes. 

“Every dude on this fucking island wants to fuck you. Are you that oblivious?” He scoffed. I sat there for a moment looking down at my phone. I then unlocked and went to my messages and pressed on Kie’s name. Rafe saw this and quickly snatched my phone from me. 

“What the hell?!” I yelled. “I’ll be dammed if you think you’re about to text that bitch about our relationship.” He said. “Thats my cousin! Don’t call her a bitch, you dick!” 

“You know what? I’ve had enough of this. Get in the back seat.” He firmly said as I shook my head no. He grabbed my throat tightly as he shook my neck. “Get in the fucking back seat. I’m not gonna tell you again.” He lowly said. I gasped when his hand left my throat, the air finally coming all back in.

As for who’s stricter, I think Ciel is.

In regard to parenting, Ciel would have a lot of doubt as to how to actually be Lottie's parents. He lost his quite young, and whatever memory he has left of them both are glorified, remembered through the distorted lenses of grief and nostalgia of a better time. The adults around him are barely adults themselves, with their own problems. Thus, he has no role model or framework for what good parenting should look like.

they're a bad influence on Sean(?) like Sean is a bit mischievous by himself but together they're a NIGHTMARE because Mac and Davey will literally do whatever the fuck and Sean is like 'i wanna go too!!' - they're not allowed to go on missions alone because Shit Will Happen and they frustrate the hell out of Arthur. - one time Arthur almost had a nervous breakdown trying to get them back home. He'd be dragging one to the horses, be like 'alright, stay here', he leaves to get another, comes back...and whoever was there Is No Longer There (at some point Mac got sober enough he helped with Davey) (Davey said in a very sad drunk voice 'you betrayed me' and Mac's heart broke)

i hc Mac was a little shorter than Arthur Davey is a little shorter than Mac and a lil thinner too (you'll see that tho)

they brawl. give them 5 bucks and they will beat each other up just for funsies (and the money) - they used to defend it by saying they're just practicing - it almost worked. - folk aren't allowed to egg them on anymore. (looking at you, Jenny)

they understand each other in an almost mystical way no one else understands. they'll be in complete opposite sides on a mission and SOMEHOW know what the other is gonna do and how to help - usually they go together, though. you'd never see one without the other.

Davey doesn't remember much of Scotland so when he can't sleep he'll ask Mac to tell him stories of the place and their parents - Davey DOES remember the railway and secretly really likes trains

Davey actually hates cheating (unless Mac is playing, but he only cheats with Mac to fuck with him) - Mac tells him he's cheating when they play poker if he's losing and Davey gives him a silent glare every time

actually, in general they're a bit too codependent (more Davey than Mac, but they both are) - when they got separated in blackwater they both panicked REALLY BADLY and Davey had to be dragged away because even as he was bleeding out he was kicking and screaming that he couldn't bear the thought that something was happening to Mac and he couldn't help - while Mac was getting tortured by the Pinkertons he asked if Davey was okay and his last few words were him apologizing to Davey for fucking up - Davey's last words were also him apologizing to Mac for being so stupid. the whole ride to Colter he blamed himself for being too reckless and getting them split up

on a happier note i think Davey's love language is words of affection - but they're very passive-aggresive

Abram has certified protective big brother energy, but since he isn’t a big brother this goes to his girl friends at college instead. Palmetto is a safe campus, but he (and Elliot by association) still always end up getting their girl friends back to the dorms safely no matter what. I’m talking if two of their friends are fucked up before he even gets there he will leave the bar 10 minutes in just to get them home and then come BACK. (this is based on my sisters friend at lsu and it’s so wholesome)

Abram’s relationship with Neil is interesting bc he’s growing up as Neil is traveling in the pros in his late 20’s. However, Neil visits whenever it’s convenient and once he gets in the groove of this whole godfather thing he treats Abram like he’s his uncle bc he sees how Andrew is with Aaron’s girls. He keeps up with his schedule when he starts playing little leagues and makes Dan send pictures. She sends first day of school updates and a picture of a little Abram missing his two front teeth.

Abram gets a Josten Court jersey and wears it until it stinks. He gets new ones when he outgrows them. By his third one Matt gets him a huge one to grow into as a grown man. He does indeed grow into it.

Neil sends him post cards with a little letters written inside when he’s 4 and Abram loves it so much that Dan facetime’s Neil like 2 weeks after he got the first one but it’s just Abram’s face all up in the camera. “When will I get anover wetter, uncle Neil?” “Oh!” instant delight “It must still be in the mail, buddy, but just keep an eye on the mailbox, okay?” “Okay… do you wanna see your wetter?!
