It seems the Gleeks/klainers like you who have been there from the beginning love season 5b and the newer crowd in last five years hate it. And I think it’s what they did to Blaine’s character in that arc.

He’d been such a high achiever, leader of glee club really, getting into Nyada and engaged and they made him into this dependent wreck who lied and smothered Kurt. I don’t like what they did to his character at all.

they clearly showed us blaine struggling with body image issues that were exacerbated by his mental health issues. he was never a perfect person who had it all together, even when he was leading show choirs and getting good grades and getting into elite performing schools. we see these issues as early as season two. being oblivious to kurt's obvious feelings, overstepping with people like burt when he asked him to talk to kurt about sex, being unsure of himself - with his sexuality, not understanding people's intentions with him, not sure if he could even be a good boyfriend himself. He was kind of always a "wreck" and it's funny that that used to be what people hated about him and now people seem to see it as a reason to love him all the more

And like. Idk I think he had a dark point in s5 where he was handling things wrong and not communicating or coping like he should've been. I don't think he was 100% leaning on Kurt for support or smothering him. We actually get to see them doing their own things in those few episodes, like Blaine with June and Kurt with Peter Pan. They still support each other when they're off doing their own thing, but say that a success for one of them is a success for both of them bc they're partners who root for each other and know how to cheer the other one on

But even before that I mean, Blaine just went through a huge life change in graduating high school and moving from Lima to New York. That's no small feat. Everything's different, school is stressful, Kurt gets put in the damn hospital. Things are chaotic, and different, and scary. And we see all the NY characters coping with their new circumstances at different points in time. Sam, Santana, Mercedes, Rachel, Kurt - they all have different points of doubt, of feeling like they don't belong or not knowing what direction to go in. Blaine was far from the only one floundering, and it's unrealistic to expect any of them to be 100% sure of themselves and their lives at any point in time, but especially in s4-5

And I appreciate your ask and how you phrased it, with the dichotomy between original fans and newer fans. Because to me that also reads as the divide between older fans and younger fans. As in like, people who were teenagers or older who watched the show when it aired, and the teens or young adults who have just gotten into the show in the last few years*. Because those viewing experiences are bound to be different

I've had around a decade to watch and rewatch Glee, to process everything in it, and for my thoughts and opinions to morph and mature. Not to mention a decade of brain development and personal growth and life experience that would shape how I view a teen show like this. I didn't start watching Degrassi or PLL until relatively recently, and I know my thoughts on those shows now aren't the same as they would've been if I was watching them when they originally aired, either as a kid, teen, or even young adult

Obviously I'm not saying age = wisdom but when it comes to something like media analysis I do think that more life experience gives you more perspective and helps you understand things like this a little differently. I mean my blog is just shy of being 5 years old and I know there are things I said in 2018 that I don't agree with anymore. You just process things differently and you're gonna have changing opinions the older you get, that's just how it is

all this to say i think you mischaracterized blaine and did his s5b self an injustice lol. but that's just my opinion. i'd like to hear from some older/younger/newer/older fans and see if this is a common pattern

*im sure there are plenty of people who watched the show when it aired and were way too young for it, and grown adults who are still getting into it today. this statement was just a generalization and not meant to speak for everyone in the fandom

I don’t really understand myself. Ever since the beginning of season 5, PLL has mostly been full of missed opportunities and good but later dropped storylines -  but still exactly that season has been the one that I’ve rewatched the most. Perhaps it is because it has so many hints of Alison being A and/or having the twin/Bethany being heavily involved in “that night” and the story altogether and Aria having some kind of mental disorder  (= things that would’ve been my favorite plot-endgames for this show). Girls were finally defending themselves against Alison, Paily was getting back together, Hanna was with Travis, we finally got some of Melissa’s backstory (even though I still think she should’ve been more involved, since she was so shady) and Mike and Mona had some quality-content. As disappointing as its result ended up being, the build-up for the Dollhouse was great. 

It is sad that many of these things were cut short: Paily broke up, the girls forgave Alison way too quickly and we were introduced to some mostly useless characters like Lesli, when they should’ve focused on other characters. Like I’ve told multiple times, I also deeply despise that Ezria got back together after everything he did to Aria and other girls. Aria really was showing some character-development especially at the end of season 4 and would’ve deserved to bloom and find herself far from Ezra. In all honesty, after rewatching this show many, many times and knowing where his character ends up, I wouldn’t have minded, if Caleb had stayed gone, either. Hanna deserved some time alone to get to know to herself again, especially after Alison’s return and properly show her how much her deeply nasty behavior affected her, and to eventually to get together with a nice guy who treated her right and shared her values - like Jordan. 

It is also sad that Spoby drifted far apart from each other on 5B (and even if they got back together, they went through an especially lot of crap during the last seasons, basically were romantically reunited because of Yvonne’s death, Toby was used and raped by Alex and Spoby didn’t even get a proper closure in the finale like the other “endgame”-couples).

PLL The Perfectionists - 1x01 Pilot LIVE REACTION

WE ARE BACK!!!!

Ok I’m gonna do what I was doing for PLL where I react as I watch. But before I copy and paste the live reaction, I want to give my quick overview. That was by far a 10/10. That achieved everything a pilot should achieve. It introduced us to the characters, each of their stories, and the relationships each character has with one another. It set the overall tone, that this is a murder mystery with twists and turns to come. It established what the show is about. And it had occasional small shocks (I say small because there’s only so much that can be shocking in a pilot when everything is brand new). This was exponentially darker than the PLL pilot and for that I’m so grateful. We are cutting the high school airy-fairy (is that word used outside of Australia?) drama and going straight to scandals and a murder. I’m scared to see the ratings tomorrow because I want it to do well but hey it was trending worldwide on Twitter so that’s a good sign!? The show looks SO promising. I think I’m already in love with the cast. I just want to know more about everything and everyone and omg we are back!

Wait, why is Alison walking around her new apartment like she’s walking around Jenna’s school for the blind in 710? If she lived 2 years of happiness and freedom of A, there’s no need to be so sceptical of danger every time you walk into a room. Anyway, doesn’t really matter.

Just the backing music throughout the scene is very PLL-esque! Yes, there is such thing as PLL backing music. And this is it.

Mona making a grand entrance!

I feel like Ali’s reaction to seeing Mona was a bit... underwhelming? If they haven’t seen each other in 2 years I expected a bit more of an “OMG”, and a “how did you get in my apartment”, etc. But they go straight to the point and cut the fluff so I don’t mind overall.

Mona recruited Ali. I knew it. And she works at BHU, we already knew that.

Emison is having trust issues. But she wants to do this for the kids. Ok I expected more detail there to satisfy the Emison shippers but whatever, I won’t cry at night.

Ok so Mary and Alex escaped Mona’s “dungeon”. That’s fine by me. Maybe that’ll be the storyline for a PLL movie later, who knows. It’s quite a vague answer but what did we expect... Mona to ADMIT to Ali that she captured her aunt? No. Mona could never explicitly say to Ali what she did. Hence the subtle pause before “... escaped me”. Only us the audience know the true meaning of that and I love how subtle yet meaningful it is.

Why do I feel like this security system is gonna play a massive toll throughout the entire series?

Loved the little Easter egg of seeing Mona, and Mona in the mirror (2 Mona’s). A subtle symbol/reference to her split personality in PLL.

I LOVED the scene of Ali teaching in the classroom! I got How To Get Away With Murder vibes...

Remember when we all thought Taylor’s death would be the main death of the show because of that memorial with her name on it... lol. Okay I’m calling it now... come back to this in the apparently mind blowing season 1 finale... Taylor isn’t really dead WE HAVENT TECHNICALLY SEEN A BODY

Love the complicated friendships going on between Dylan, Nolan, Ava, Caitlin! There’s a lot going on about faking being friends and faking tasks to uphold the image of being perfect. I love this theme and I feel like it’s super relevant to today’s world. Like especially social media. Everyone’s instagrams are always filled of their highs. And they’re mostly edited. No one ever posts/shares their low moments.

So no one knows of Ali’s past. Hmmm. We’ve had this discussion before, I don’t think it’s realistic that no one knows the name Alison DiLaurentis - surely that was on national news when “dead girl isn’t dead anymore” made headlines. But anyway. If they wanna pretend no one watches the news, it wouldn’t be the most unrealistic thing PLL has done.

Is Dylan the gay male character Marlene said she was going to introduce in PLL season 5B? Lmao about time.

WOW that flashback of Caitlin and Nolan just gave me PLL season 1 Alison flashback vibes! Nolan plays the bad manipulative guy so well just like Ali played the bully so well in flashbacks!

Sorry I put my phone down during that scene in the woods. I just knew it would be juicy and I wanted to immerse in it properly. I frickin adore this scene. It’s creepy in tone, set in the woods like classic PLL, they’re referring to Ali like a friend and my PLL heart is content, and this is the first time they’re all bonding over one thing: wanting Nolan dead. This is probably my favourite scene in the whole episode.

So I’m guessing the vibes are that they were being recorded in the woods about how they want Nolan to be killed? But didn’t Nolan turn off the security?

Oh Marlene. That’s a LOT of dialogue for a death scene. I hope you can back up and explain what Nolan is talking about before he died. Don’t you dare tell me that was an interpretative dream. Again that’s a lot of dialogue for a death scene. You better know who that killer is Marlene! Don’t make it up the day you write the finale!

I don’t like how we didn’t see Nolan ACTUALLY be killed. They play it safe because they don’t want to show us the killer in action. they basically copied the format of Mona’s “death”. Just change the scene to a flashing ambulance with a lame transition lol.

Another missed opportunity. Mona should’ve said to Ali “they found a body”! That would’ve been iconic in every way possible. First it was Ali’s body now Ali is finding a body and hearing the news and ugh oh well

My brain right now instantly got to thinking if Nolan’s murderer will be the “A” of the series or if the killer will just be the main mystery for season 1? Is “who killed Nolan” going to be the overarching story of the entire show or will they answer that sooner rather than later and then start a new mystery? I wonder what the format of this show will be. That’s where my mind is right now as the credits play.

Completely random but I feel like I want to rewatch Pretty Little Liars from the beginning, lmao. Because before Agents of SHIELD took over my life (and before the writers completely obliterated the show), PLL was my favourite show. Then Season 5B happened, 6B and the entirety of S7 -- not to mention the final story completely ruined the show. lmao. Despite this, that show has a special place in my heart. :’)

Definitely. Drama and conflict is only productive if it showcases growth in the characters. On PLL the characters actually regressed during the time jump? The drama that was created had absolutely no influence on the characters’ final destination, which makes in pointless and irrelevant to the story? It was drama for the sake of drama, which isn’t good storytelling. Drama is fine - even necessary, sometimes - but there has to be a point to it. Otherwise it’s just cheap and distasteful. On a similar note, I’m pretty convinced they messed with the characters and the ships out of boredom and lack of inspiration. But it recently occurred to me that they also might have done it (subconsciously perhaps) in order to distract the audience from the fact that they don’t have the first clue how to write a decent mystery. Theorists like to put the blame of this shitty finale on the shippers, and on the notion that the writers only aim to please the shippers. Bullshit, if you ask me, and here’s why:1) As a shipper this was hardly the ending I envisioned, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. It’s insulting to me that anyone would claim that the shippers got what they wanted out of this finale.2) Newsflash: the finale would have been shit no matter what. The writers focussed on the ships because they don’t have any other skills. They’re not mystery writers. They never have been. They fill their screen time with ship drama because they want to hide their flaws, and then they get pissed off when no one falls for it and their tactic comes back to bite them in the ass.

Today’s the last time non-American fans are going to be desperately looking for good livestream websites so they aren’t behind when the episode airs, and today is the last time we’re ever going to see our girls try and find out who A (or, A.D) is. Today is the last time we’re gonna spend all night pacing around our rooms, trying to figure out what just happened. Today is the last time we’re gonna cry over a new OTP moment, and today’s the last time we’re gonna rewatch the whole series to make up new theories about who the fuck A could be. Today’s the last time we’re gonna gif the crap out of the new episode and our OTP’s new scenes. Today’s the last time we’re going to see parallels between episodes and gif them, or try to get what they could mean.

It’s been seven years and nineteen days since the pilot episode aired. These seven years were a roller-coaster. We definitely wanted the show to be cancelled more than once. And we sure as hell hated this show to death for more than one season (cough, 5b, 6a, etc). But we also grew fond of the five liars, and while all of them have made terrible (and terribly stupid) mistakes, we love them. It’s been such an eventful journey. There’s no possible way to count how many tears and laughs we’ve shared together. How many times we’ve yelled at the screen because of how frustrated we were with how stupid the characters acted. How many times we’ve spent on Tumblr scrolling and scrolling and scrolling through a shit ton of theories, gifsets, and funny text posts. How many times we’ve been disappointed with the writers, and how many times we’ve been disappointed with how badly the characters were being treated. This show doesn’t have good LGBTQ+ rep, and basically almost everyone in Rosewood is white. This show has got more than a hundred plotholes that probably won’t be answered. This show has been my enemy at times, and I have to admit, I’ve thought about quitting more than once. But, as this old proverb I saw on twitter says, I can’t help but love my enemies. I truly love this show to Pluto and back. It’s the first (and probably the last) show I’ve ever been this attached to. I can’t thank this show enough for everything. It gave me something to look forward to every week. For me, this show was my safe place to land.

I sometimes truly think I lived in Rosewood for the past 7 years. I love the twisted people in Rosewood. I love the liars. And I love the amazingly talented, gorgeous women portraying our favorite characters. Lucy, Sasha, Shay, Ashley, Troian, Janel, Torrey, Vanessa,Andrea… This show wouldn’t be the same without them. As ridiculous and as cheesy as this sounds, PLL really taught me a lot. From friendship to how to hide a dead body properly (I learned from their mistakes). From love to knowing that I should always call the cops if I ever get threatened by an anonymous person. And, I want to take a moment to talk about the most legendary ship in Rosewood, as well. Emison. 

Emily and Alison are the most amazing characters for me. If they weren’t, this blog wouldn’t be dedicated to them. I don’t have enough words to describe what I feel towards them, and in fact, I don’t have any words. Emison is the most legendary ship out there. They have been through so much - separately and together - and they never stopped loving each other. Their relationship is nothing but love and loyalty towards one another (although both have made mistakes in the past). Emily never stopped caring about Ali, and Ali never stopped caring about Em. The connection they share is absolutely astonishing, breathtaking, and stunning. The Emison fandom has survived a war, literally, in 2015. I’m not going to remember all the details, but if you’re an Emison shipper reading this, you know. And we still never lost hope. Legends only. And the way Sasha and Shay portrayed these two great characters is just hypnotizing. And although both Alison and Emily (and Sasha and Shay) are sometimes the source of my pain, They’re both extraordinary and have a very, very special place in my heart. I’m gonna stop talking about them now because if I don’t, I’ll die.

Even though I have been watching PLL for about six or seven years, I only made this blog in 2015, I think. And I definitely don’t regret it. I have so many amazing memories with this fandom. I have made so many amazing friends that I’m never going to forget. Ever. Every single one of you have changed me as a person. You’ve shaped me into someone I never thought I’d become (a lazy ass hoe who doesn’t leave her room). And I’m forever grateful. Thank you to every person who has ever reblogged my posts. And thank you to everyone who has followed my trashy blog. I didn’t expect this post to be this long, but never mind. 

It’s done. Tonight we find out who A is, and as much as I want to, we won’t see a promo for season 8. You might think the game is over, though. But, to quote Sherlock Holmes, the game is never over. But there may be some new players now. And the new players will never realize how hard it was to sit around and wait for a new episode, how much suffering we went through when there were hiatuses, or how much we hated I. Marlene King sometimes. The soundtracks, the webs of lies, the plotholes, the characters, the church, the brew, the people, the radley, I’ll miss everything so much.

The characters that made us love them so much, they will always live in our hearts. Rosewood will always exist. We’ll always go back to rewatch the show, and re-read the books, and we’ll always remember them. We’re stuck. Forever and ever and ever and ever. And that, is immortality, my darlings. ;)

I just want you to know you're not the only one still salty (so salty) and upset about Spoby. I had to stop watching PLL and indulge in other shows to stop the pain. I had to FORGET about PLL. So my question is, what's your ideal Spoby ending?

Ahhh sorry i was late to get back to this but SAME. I’ve tried to rewatch episodes but it legitimately makes too sad. I wasn’t kidding about crying while trying to find an episode to watch.

Pertaining to your question, it depends how much I can rework. Realistically, I would love to start over at 5b. I think the conflict about him being a cop was really sad but forgivable, but the cheating was absolutely ridiculous and frankly, never should have happened. I would definitely cut it out. 6a was fine, I guess. 

Of course I would keep them together during the time jump. Their breakup was totally out of character (I haven’t watched since the first time because it makes me too sad so if I get anything wrong forgive me). The fact that they broke up because they couldn’t see a future together is ridiculous because they have literally been planning a future together since day one??

But anyway, Toby acting as Spencer’s support throughout college and whenever she gets the urge to take pills again would be not only beautiful but realistic. They should have stayed together and Toby could actually be a part of the squad and help with A.D. and twincer never happened and never assaulted Toby. 

I would want him to propose in the 7A finale or early 7B and we could have Spencer wedding planning?? And maybe the finale could be a spoby wedding??? I know this seems like spoby overload, but isn’t this the same treatment ezria got?

But if we’re starting from the time jump, things would be a little different. In my world, Yvonne would never be in the picture. There would be a couple episodes of cute spoby friendship soaked with “will they or won’t they drama” that mirror season one. They get back together while playing scrabble or something and it’s beautiful. 

They enter a beautiful and committed relationship set against the backdrop of A drama. THEN WE FINALLY GET A SCRABBLE PROPOSAL.

Last option (I have thought about this so much you don’t even know): They still aren’t together by the last or second to last episode and are riddled with tension while remaining friends (hear me out). But during ezria’s wedding they both disappear. Everyone is looking for them when they finally find them making out somewhere BECAUSE THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. anyway

1) WHAT DID GARRETT MEAN WHEN HE SAID MEDICAL RECORDS DONT LIE? – – – So much time has passed since Garrett and his death in [3x13]. But this specific Garrett-line was from 3x02. You can read a lot of things in it, but the obvious: – – Garrett knows that Jenna was able to see after her 1st operation which happened while Toby was in Juvi. So Jenna was able to see as he lied killing Alison with a hockey stick.

2) WHY DID MONA ACT SHOCKED ABOUT CHARLES WHEN SHE HAD HISNAME WRITTEN DOWN IN THREE ANAGRAMS? – I think noboby has ever answered this question the way I think it was meant to be: Spencer, Emily and Aria entered Mona's house to find clues. They found the 3-lines-anagram in Mona's hand mirror. After they 3 left, there are two key scenes: an ice-pickle was used to broke into Mona's house and Andrew was shown watching the Liars leave the house. For the 5B-storyline until early 6A-season he was pictured as one of the ultimate villains. But I still think he was going to help the Liars. Sadly, the actor who played Andrew was caught with a weapon (pointing against their neighbors) not only once. And so he left the cast.

3) WHO DESTROYED CONNORS CAR? answered by @xjennax13: Mike destroyed Connor’s car

4) HOW DID EDDIE LAMB KNOW EZRA? – Ezra asked Eddie a lot of things about the Radley Sanitarium while hewas trying to write his book. [revealed in 5x07]

5) WHY WAS SARA HARVEY WORKING FOR CECE? – / – I don't think that this Q is ever been answered. Sara maybe suffered from the Stockholm Syndrom, but that doesn't explain why she was kidnapped and held captive for 2 years and 8 months. Another explanations could be that she, Sara, was craving for that because her mother was a drunk.

What would an Emison spinoff even be, though, in terms of storyline, tone, etc. They are my OTP to the point of not even being able to watch 5B and a lot of S6 because of the betraying, more Paige, Lorenzo, etc. So wouldn't a spinoff just potentially undo their PLL endgame? The only good thing about how PLL writers handled this, is we never saw them break up, cheat, etc., over and over.

That’s what I was wondering as well… 

I’d like if A.D. were to kidnap Alison and send her to a new and improved Dollhouse (which would be nice because we definitely didn’t see enough of the Dollhouse episode), and Emily has to play the game in order to get her back. Like, we n e v e r saw Emily play the game up until now. I would have loved to see Dark Emily. It’s my kink. And like, I want this spinoff MA-rated. No more of this Freeform stuff… Like, Emily has to do/see some fucked up shit for A.D.. Like, she has to almost-try to kill one the other Liars, and she has to film Spencer cheating on Toby with Caleb and send the video file in a mass-email to the local Board of Lobbyists (or wherever Spencer works in the future) and she has to set Hanna’s house on fire, y’know, fucked up stuff. She has to do all this or A.D. will, and I mean will kill Alison. And A.D. turns out to be like, her dead father or Maya getting revenge or Jenna or someone interesting, I don’t know. Something cool and dark like that.

Or just a nice quiet spinoff with them being a very happy, healthy family. I’d like that too :)

Dissecting the PLL’s Friendships

Doing some rewatching has made me really consider the friendships between the individual Liars, and I thought it would be interesting to dissect each one, discussing their dynamics with each other and who I feel had the strongest and weakest bonds. I’ll start with the core four, and may make a separate post detailing their relationships with Alison and Mona.

Hanna & Emily

If I had to label one friendship between the girls’ as the strongest, it would have to be Hanna and Emily. Not only did they never seem to get into the big blowout fights that some of the girls did, they showed each other support and love during some of the biggest moments. When Hanna found out that Emily was gay, she provided compassion and reassurance that it wouldn’t change anything between them. Emily’s first reaction to Hanna’s dismissal from the pageant that she needed to win to pay for college was to enter it and win the money for her. It’s undeniable that all of the Liars supported each other, but Hanna and Emily always seemed to go the extra mile.

Spencer & Aria

There’s always seemed to be a bit of discourse surrounding Aria and Spencer’s friendship. Are they truly the strongest friendship in the show? Is “team Sparia” overrated? Having watched their friendship play out, I think it’s indisputable that they had a close bond. There was sort of a “big sister, little sister” vibe going on in their scenes that adds to that closeness. I can’t say they had the most significant friendship as far as bigger moments and storylines, but their friendship often felt like the most normal bond between teen girls, and they tended to be the duo that “got things done” as far as the mystery and investigation.

Emily & Spencer

It seems like fans tend to fall into one of two camps when it comes to this friendship: Those who believe they were the closest out of the girls and will die on that hill, and those who don’t think they were particularly close at all. I fall more into the second group than the first. While they certainly had their great moments together and I do believe they cared for each other, their similar personalities (protective, headstrong, with a tendency toward judgmental attitudes) led to more fights between them than any other combination of Liars. They also didn’t seem to have the compassion toward each other’s problems that they often did for others (there was a coldness that permeated Emily’s attitude toward Spencer spilling her guts about Caleb, and Spencer’s reaction to Emily lamenting her stolen eggs). 

Aria & Hanna

This friendship is unique in that it seemed like they were perhaps the closest out of the girls in the first season or so (even referring to each other specifically, multiple times, as “best friends”), but drifted apart as the seasons went on. Maybe this just had to do with the writers determining which combinations of Liars worked the best together, or maybe it really did have to do with the rumored tension between Lucy and Ashley starting around season three, but the fondness between Aria and Hanna seemed to diminish as the show went on, aside from a few sweet moments in later seasons.

Hanna & Spencer

I’ve always maintained that while entertaining on a show, Hanna and Spencer’s friendship would never last in real life. Between Spencer constantly correcting Hanna’s pronunciation and Hanna making snarky comments about Spencer’s intelligence and ambition, at times they almost seemed more like frenemies than friends. I would however, say that despite the snark and bickering, they seemed to have one of the most genuine and consistent relationships on the show, ignoring, of course, the love triangle disaster. Between Spencer seeking out Hanna for support after her parents’ separation, and Spencer comforting Hanna during Ashley’s time in jail, they were consistently there for each other.

Aria & Emily

Undeniably, for me, this is the weakest relationship between the four girls, which is ironic considering they were the first to reconnect at the show’s start. It always felt like the writers just...forgot to establish a deeper friendship between these two when they did all of the others. While they tried to make up for it later in the show by pairing off Aria and Emily for a good amount of storylines in season 5B and beyond, and they had their fair share of fun moments together (the stand-out being their conversation about prom in “FrAmed”), they never seemed to have the big scenes together that all of the other Liar combos did, and my perspective of their friendship weakened as a result.

She’s just trying to save everyone instead of herself. It’s hard to know what is in her head. I think maybe losing everyone could wake her up. Who knows?

PLL The Perfectionists: 1x04 The Ghost Sonata - Review

Overall this was my least favourite episode so far but that’s by no means saying this was a bad episode. All 3 episodes so far have been 10/10, absolutely flawless... and episode 4 is an 8/10. Still a really good episode!

So far in all 4 episodes they’ve started off with really juicy scenes. This first one with Alison and Mona is great. I love how they highlighted that both of them were ‘dead’ at some point and I love that mini reveal (if you can call it that?) that Alison lowkey thought Mona was alive that whole time in season 5B!

I’m not sure of the purpose behind that scene where the worker drops his screwdriver on Mona’s desk? Must be important if they’re going to pay to hire an actual actor rather than just an extra with no lines. Edit at end of episode: flash forward and yep he’s Ray Hogadorn. Not shocked.

“Haven’t they given you an office yet?” Oh my god I legitimately chocked on my milkshake. I love you Ava! So sassy.

Some of my favourite scenes across all 4 episodes are the ones with Dana Booker. I love the heat she brings! This scene with her, Ava and Alison just has me on the edge of my seat. Not because it’s intense in the sense of ‘omg I’m shocked’ but it’s intense in the sense that who knows what card Booker is about to play and who knows where the conversation is about to plunge. And seeing Ali save their asses every time is so damn satisfying. It’s just hitting all those PLL nostalgia feels seeing our friend of 7 years use her expertise to help these new kids on the block.

Finally Mona interacts with someone other than Alison. So I think we can officially put to bed the theories that Mona is a figment of Ali’s imagination.

Coffee and pie, Jeremy offers Caitlin. Isn’t that the exact combo of food and drinks that Alison told the trio to use as their alibi (that night at Ali’s apartment)? Could be a coincidence because who doesn’t love coffee and pie but was this the writers telling us that Jeremy was listening to them?

I’m obsessed with this recurring story of Beacon Guard watching them all the time. Like when the camera turns on and watches them at the running track... that’s creepy as hell. Plus the rat sign... it’s A-vibes all over again!

Love the homage to the original series how Ava signed the text as A.

The writing was REALLY really good in the scene where Andrew reacts to Dylan’s secret. Andrew made a great point about Nolan doing that to Dylan because he knew Dylan would fall for it - not because they actually had anything going on.

When Taylor left, says Claire. Is Claire being euphemistic by saying ‘left’, or does she actually think Taylor packed her bags and left? I mean, the episode before she said Taylor ‘disappeared’. She’s changing the story every time she talks about Taylor!

I didn’t really like that they new trio is already arguing this early in the series. Sure, later in the series, have arguments. How many times did our PLLs get angry at each other? That can be a fun change in dynamics. But this early in the series? Especially after an episode (episode 3) which was written with the main purpose of bringing them closer? Idk. I’m sure it won’t last for ages but still... not something I wanted to see this early and I think that’s why this episode is an 8 and not 10/10.

I love that scene between Ali and Caitlin. They spend so much time talking about trust but we never actually saw any ‘trust’ happening (lack of better phrase). It was nice to see them confide in each other.

I’m kinda annoyed we never got around to seeing Mona’s chess buddy this episode. I thought they’d actually show us.

Oh Emison. That’s getting its own post. But in short: hallelujah.

That ending scene was a bit... short? I appreciate that they try end on a cliffhanger and it was a great cliffhanger but I feel like the scene should’ve lasted a bit longer. Like maybe show us what Taylor was going to do to Ali rather than just lock her in there. And THEN end it. Anyway. I’m so excited for next week!
