listen I know pretty little liars has been off air for like six years and I should probably stop letting this bother me, but I genuinely cannot get over the fact that they forced aria to marry her teacher and STALKER. their relationship is already disgusting enough before the season 4 reveal, but it’s only made worse by the fact that ezra was following around and exploiting multiple teenage girls. that man should be in JAIL. alex drake should have finished the job when she hit him over the head with that rock.

the thing about most aria hate is that when people are describing what they don’t like about her they are often actually describing indicators that she is literally being groomed. “she’s pretentious and has a need to see herself as more mature and cultured than her peers” yeah! that’s why she’s such an easy target for ezra when they first meet and he’s pursuing her for his book! “she’s disconnected from the rest of the liars” yeah! groomers/abusers often isolate their victims!!! “she protects ezra when she shouldn’t” yeah!! she has been conditioned to do this! “she barely seems to exist or have an identity outside of her relationship with ezra” YEAH!!!! an adult man, her TEACHER, pursued her knowing exactly how old she was when she was just sixteen and utterly consumed her identity. Isn’t That Alarming To You.

It breaks my heart how surprised and happy Aria was in 4x11 about how easy it was to go out with Jake and how she had the time of her life at the dance...and then Ez*a just had to drag her back into the darkness with him. By every rewatch I loathe him more and more.

I have come to an uncomfortable realization about Pretty Little Liars aside from the multiple predatory relationships. The realization is the fact there were grown women who knew that these predatory men were fooling around with under age girls and these grown women would either encourage it or end up seeing that underage girl where her frontal cortex isn’t even fully developed as competition. This is why I don’t like Melissa, Cece or Ezra’s ex fiancé.

watching PLL as an adult is really "what the hell is going on?" and especially the whole Ezra and Aria thing, you seeing this as an adult is really…. No, No, and No

There are far too many predators in that show. Even as a child, when I used to watch it, Ezria never sat right with me, but I still didn’t want them to get caught which is messed up. Now as an adult I’m glad I broke out of that thought process. The show pushed too much subliminal messages onto watches which were far too impressionable.

How I feel about this character: I like him! He’s sweet. He’s made mistakes, but so has everyone else. He’s also the best teen fighter on the show along with Sam

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Sam! Also sometimes Hawk

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Robby, Tory

My unpopular opinion about this character: He’s more at fault for the 2x8 kiss than Sam is, and Tory should've been pissed at him for it ✋

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish Tory had gone after him in the fight and not Sam...I mean, he was sober and the one dating Tory

I also wish he and Sam would stop having relationship drama every season like omg we get it, can we move on now 🤦‍♀️ we know you’re endgame, this has no stakes

How I feel about this character: She’s neat. I know people say she's a bad friend, and they’re not wrong. But people hating her for the Ezra thing need to get a mf grip

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Honestly, any of the girls (mostly Spencer) 😂 Noel could’ve been a great option too (like the books!) if the show hadn’t made him so awful. Ooh or Ezra's little brother, iirc they’re around the same age

My non-romantic OTP for this character: the Liars as a group ofc! Also, she and Ezra could've been such great friends if not for their awful romance and the fact that he’s a terrible person aside from that too 😔 smh the chaotic Ezra & Aria friendship we could've had...

Also Jason, if the show hadn’t tried to make them date, which is...so gross. Ew. The fact that people actually ship them (even while hating Ezra/Aria!!) repulses me

My unpopular opinion about this character: A only holding her relationship with Ezra over her head was weird—a) because it was the tamest thing ever and I wish A had blown the whistle, and b) it once again contributed to Ezra/Aria being “forbidden lovers”, which...ew I hate it

Oh and here’s another: shipping her with Jason is still bad, he was literally in the NAT club and knew her since she was little (also isn’t he around Ezra's age??)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Lowkey if she’d turned out to be A, that would’ve been awesome. Even Lucy Hale thought she’d be!

Spencer Hastings

How I feel about this character: She deserves so much better, the show put her through too much

All the people I ship romantically with this character: All the girls, especially Aria. Also Toby

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Aside from the Liars as a quartet...I can’t think of anyone 😅 I’m sure there’s someone tho

My unpopular opinion about this character: Her sister is awful and I’ll never forgive her for villainizing Spencer for kissing Ian and Wren. Girl bffr?? Those are GROWN MEN and your sister is a TEENAGER

(Coming from an older sister...Melissa Hastings makes us look awful, and I resent her for it ✋)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: When she turns 18, she gets to give an entire speech to her parents and Melissa talking about how terrible they were to her and saying she’s never talking to them again until they apologize profusely and make amends

I’ve heard Veronica gets better in later seasons, and ofc I know about Spencer’s complicated parental situation, but IDC she still should’ve gotten to say this, I’m mad she didn’t. They were so mean to her in s1 and s2

Oh also on that note, I’d get rid of the cheating that makes her Ali’s half-sister, because…why. And also, no evil twin for her! That should’ve been Ali and Hanna, or Ali and Courtney (like the books)
