First fanfic in a long time, and first one about a celebrity and not a show, so please be gentle with me. It’s a one shot probably and nothing will come of it besides this. 🫣🫠 also my character development is in the works. Harry needs some… help 😅

Forgive me Peter, my lost fearless Leader, in closets like cedar preserved from when we were just kids Is it something I did? The goddess of timing once found us beguiling. She said she was trying; Peter was she lying? My ribs get the feeling she did.

Timing was everything in LA, and the Grammy Awards were no joke. Harry was sweating as he turned away from the crowd. His anxiety was sky high, and he knew that he could not handle the red carpet much longer. He threw one more smile towards the crowd as he departed, heading inside. He knew the cameras would follow, but as soon as he hit the doors, he ducked inside the closest bathroom in hopes that he might get some reprieve. He sighed when he found no one else inside. He leaned against the wall, pushing his sleeves up a little. The sheen of sweat on his upper lip bothered him, his head was aching, and although he was up for a grammy, he wasn't sure he even wanted to be there anymore. He loved his job. He loved this life. But sometimes he just got tired. After a few moments' peace, he used the restroom, washed his hands, and walked out the door.

Right outside the door, he hit something soft. Or rather, someone soft. He let out a small “oof” before steadying himself quickly and then the person in front of him. His green eyes met the most beautiful blue eyes he'd ever seen – ones he'd seen in his dreams for the last12 years. He bit his lip.

“I'm so sorry Taylor. Are you okay?” He asked, his breath caught a little in his throat. He willed his hands to not shake as he held on to her, she still seemed a little unsteady.

“I'm okay, I think. You didn't run into me so much as scare me.” She nervously giggled. She looked around the mostly empty hallway, then stepped back. “I hope to catch up in a bit, but I better go find my date.” She said with a wistful look on her face. She turned and walked away, and Harry could do nothing more than watch her leave. A million thoughts ran through his mind, things he should have said, things he wished he would have done in that moment before she walked away – again. He didn't even want to picture her date. Or think of his own, for that matter. He muttered to himself as he went to go find his date in the crowd.

And I didn't wanna come down; I thought it was just goodbye for now. You said you were gonna grow up then you were gonna come find me ... words from the mouths of babes - promises oceans deep, but never to keep.

Taylor kept her head held high as she walked away from Harry, but she was so glad he couldn't see her face. She remembered after only a moment that the rest of the world was about to see her face too, on camera. She took a shaky breath and composed herself before stepping into the main hall. The place was abuzz with activity, and she knew that the clever hosts had placed her and Harry not too far apart. She had come with hopes of having a good time, so why was she already so rattled? She liked being in his presence. He always calmed her down... Well, not always, if she admitted the truth to herself. But generally. She had taken to being a big supporter of his, and he supported her. She wasn't about to change that just because she was in a relationship. She found her boyfriend at the front of the room, talking with another celebrity. She smiled and tried her best to act interested, but her eyes were looking around for a certain man. She focused on her boyfriend in front of her, and he smiled and put his arm around her. She snuggled up to him, wanting to seem as calm and collected with him as she usually did.

From across the room, she accidentally met Harry's eyes. He was looking right at her. She smiled a weak smile, and he returned the same, and she felt her heart pick up speed. She couldn't be the first to break eye contact, no matter how much she tried. She couldn't force herself. Harry noticed Taylor's boyfriend was trying to say something to her and forced himself to look away, and she finally looked up and spoke

“Sorry, what were you saying? I was zoning out”. She giggled a little and her boyfriend gave her an indulgent smile.

“I was just saying...” And almost immediately Taylor zoned out again, but she avoided looking at Harry. She knew that if she looked at him again, she was going to definitely alert her boyfriend to something.

Are you still a mind reader? A natural scene stealer? I've heard great things Peter, But life was always easier on you Than it was on me. And sometimes it gets me, when crossing your jet stream, we both did the best we could do underneath the same moon in different galaxies. And I didn't wanna hang around We said it was just goodbye for now

Harry did his best at avoiding looking at Taylor, but when it came time for her to accept her award, he gave her his full attention. It was perfect timing; everyone was already paying her attention. He was so proud of all of her accomplishments. She was the shining star she always had been. She was the brightest, most amazing comet. There were so many things that Harry could say about Taylor's writing ability, her music, her singing, her talent in general. She “was” the music industry, as they say. She went on stage, and the moment she got up there, she thanked her boyfriend and Harry's heart plummeted. It was fine. He knew she had a boyfriend. He wasn't insane. His date wrapped her arm around his waist. He smiled at her gently, but his eyes never fully left Taylor's face. He couldn't even properly accept that his date was actually his girlfriend at that very moment. Taylor was his focus. His all. His everything. As she had been, for far too long. Taylor's eyes went from her own boyfriend's right to Harry's, and it all shifted. If she hadn't been so aware of the cameras, Harry had the odd feeling she'd have left her eyes right on his.

The acceptance speech was nothing short of amazing, but her speeches always were. He clapped along with everyone else, but his heart was racing. As she was getting ready to leave the microphone, she said “We said it was just goodbye for now.” And walked off. She didn't even look in his direction, and everyone dismissed it because it was lyrics for one of her songs. But Harry's heart began pounding harder and he couldn't hear anything else. His girlfriend was saying something to him, but he couldn't hear her. He sank to his chair, his anxiety washing over him.

And I won't confess that I waited, but let the lamp burn as the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return with your feet on the ground, tell me all that you'd learned cause love's never lost when perspective is earned and you said you'd come and get me, but you were twenty-five and the shelf-life of those fantasies has expired. Lost to the “lost boys” chapter of your life. Forgive me Peter, please know that I tried to hold on to the days when you were mine but the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light.

Taylor walked right to her boyfriend, who was looking at her, a confused expression on his face.

“Was the last line in the speech we practiced, babe?” He asked quietly. Taylor shook her head. “No, sometimes I just feel inspired. I'm not really sure what came of it, but it made me feel better to say it.” She smiled at him, and he gave her a puzzled smile back. He shrugged and spoke

“I'm going to go get a drink, do you want something?” She thought about it for a moment and spoke “Maybe some white wine?” Her boyfriend nodded and kissed her cheek and walked away. There was an interlude at that moment and Taylor carried herself over to Harry, who was alone now. She saw he was sitting in a chair, and not standing, and that his date had gone. She knew that his “date” was his girlfriend, but she couldn't put that label to it, for her own heart couldn't handle it. She smiled at the beautiful man in front of her.

“Are you okay, Harry?” She asked, leaning in to hear him reply. “I'm feeling a bit anxious, honestly.” He said, meeting her eyes. Those eyes had always had some kind of spell on Taylor, and she couldn't help but get a bit lost in them. Her twin flame, sitting in front of her, just out of her reach. She knew she should walk away. She knew that Harry knew that last line had been for him. They were never going to be truly over; they were always going to walk that line. She smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. “It'll all be okay.” She said, and he gave her a smile that she had once coined as his “cheshire grin”. Her heart shuddered. She swallowed hard and spoke

“I better go. It's really good to see you, Harry.” She turned to leave and heard him say quietly

“And I get the feeling that you'll never need me again.” She would have turned around, had her boyfriend not been walking toward her. The next presenter came on the stage, and she walked away, glancing momentarily back at Harry, her eyes willing him to see that she'd always need him.

I begrudgingly checked a haylor timeline and they were literally in the same physical city (only same location for industry events/parties) generously 12 times in all of 2013 - 2014 (including Jan 2012 when they were still dating). I get situationships and falling back into old patterns but please explain to me with their insane careers/documentation of where they are all the time and all the other people they were or rumored to be seeing they had the time for her to be so invested she was going to jump off a building (metaphorically). And swifties are eating this nonsense up just like she knew they would bc Harry is till now her biggest fan get and the girlies love it. Not to say he didn’t also get a lot out of it (and continues to) but my god this is exhausting.

I’ve been ignoring it LMAOO it’s the fact that they were “together” for like 3 months when he was 19(?) and she was 22(?) for me. People are acting like it was a couple year long thing.

My main issue though is that the re-records don’t have the same energy as the originals 😭😭😭 maybe it’s just me but it just sounds off

One of the most annoying takes I regularly see is “I still can’t believe that in the rep prologue Taylor LITERALLY tells us rep isn’t about who she publicly claims it’s about.” Like, no, that’s not what she’s saying at ALL, and to interpret it that way is doing a bit disservice to the things Taylor says in that prologue lmao. The point of it is actually really similar to her dollhouse quote - all she’s saying “never forget that I choose what I publicly share and that you don’t know my life better than I know my life, even though you think you do and think only public moments matter which is why a lot of you have stupid theories about my music that aren’t true at all. Stop thinking you know me as well as the people in my real life know me”. It’s quite literally the opposite of “Haha I’m dropping hints that rep isn’t about who I publicly say it is”, it’s literally “Please stop making theories about my life because y’all don’t know shit”

The funniest thing is she goes: “There will be slideshows of photos backing up each incorrect theory, because it's 2017 and if you didn't see a picture of it, it couldn't have happened right?” and people use… pictures… to prove Kaylor/Tily/Haylor/whatever. Like this girl DEADASS goes: “these are private moments and y’all don’t know my life” which like… fair. We can imagine the moments but we weren’t on the roof with them or at their parties or spending “long nights with [his] hands up in [her] hair” - those were PRIVATE moments that she very bravely and confidently shared on main because that’s her songwriting style.

She explicitly said like the point is the music is the music and we don’t know her relationship 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ which is TRUE. Idk how people twist that to be “it means she’s not with Joe” lol.

Oh don’t get me wrong, this is a very typical kind of stunt. They’re checking literally all the boxes. But I think we're all on the same page here when we say all Harry's past ~girlfriends~ were basically the same, we went through this already. And the one that were always out of the curve for me was Haylor. And that's because there's a difference between a beard and a stunt, and IMO basically all the others were just beards - they would bring them to tell some backstory, to let people interested, to engage the fans, but essentially to cover his sexuality. As for Haylor, that was heavy publicity for 1D in the U.S. and for her album, and it was huge. She was more famous than him, she had her own career, her own fans, and people talk about it to this day. And the more I look into Holivia (i hate this name, please) the more similarities I see. 

I think we didn't see it coming because Olivia is not the kind of woman we would expect to be linked with Harry. She's not our average Victoria’s Secret model. She was married, she has kids, she's a boss.. I mean, she actually sounds like an amazing woman lol so that was a change. And then, again, maybe the real difference here is that this is doesn't has much to do about his sexuality, this is to promote the movie. This is publicity. Are they pushing him further into the closet with this? Absolutely. She's still acting like his beard, but for once maybe this is not the main goal here. Maybe. And I'm not saying this is any better, by the way. It's just different from what we experienced before.

Music Industry Stunts and why they happen

Stunts are a big part of the music industry, you may not know it, but they are.  The purpose of stunts is to push a certain narrative to the general public. Now this could mean many different things, PR relationship; coverups; or to peak the publics interest. Why? You may ask, why would the artist do this, why wouldn’t they just be truthful? Well, many don’t have a choice, the music industry is a place that I wish no one would have to be in, it is a cruel and awful place to be if you don’t know how to get around it, or if you don’t have the correct connections. In the past (and still now), many big brand music industries, such as Sony Music and Warner Music have controlled artists immensely.

George Michael

As a legend in the music industry, George Michael is a well-known name in the average household. From his time in the hit duo “Wham!”, Michael’s music was distributed through CBS, but in 1987 Sony took over and that’s when things went downhill. Michael reveled in the popularity of his hit album “Faith” in 1987, and so did Sony, because he was earning them money.

But that ended quickly with the news of his next album “Listen Without Prejudice” in 1990, Sony refused to promote the album and appear in the music videos for it. Michael in turn, disputed his contract with Sony, but he could not do close to anything, because Sony possessed the power of approval over everything that he put out. Meaning, George Michael could not release music without it going through the board of Sony, and if he did, he could get sued and fired.

During this whole time, George came clean, saying that the board of Sony, used many different homophobic slurs against him, and wouldn’t let him release any music that seemed to allude to the fact that he was gay.

George Michael brought Sony to court in 1993, claiming that between 1987-1992, he had made worldwide profits of £7.35 million ($9.8 million) compared to Sony making £52.45 million ($70 million). Ultimately, the case lasted till June 1994, and Michael had lost, the judge claiming that it was fair. Michael retaliated saying how Sony is “Professional Slavery”.

Suzanne Kessler, Entertainment attorney at Bone McAllester Norton and former in-house attorney at A&M Records and Universal Music Group stated, “There are two sides to this tale,” she said. “The music business is a relationship business, and he was uneasy with what was happening. A label often wants an artist to continue to trade on their established brand with the public. But after “Faith” Michael was trying for a new direction, to be taken more seriously as an artist instead of just as a pop star sex symbol.”

This brings me to my next point,

 Closeting in the Industry

(Now I could go on for day about closeting in the music industry, but I will only give you the basis and then I will link another post that goes further in depth.)

Closeting is not a rare thing in the music industry, it in fact happens more than you might think. Many different artists have come forward, saying how their management said they should remain closeted to the general public, in order to maintain the brand that has been established. A popular example of this would be Sam Smith, they were offered multiple times by their management to have a beard. More closeting in the industry comes from Colton Haynes, who has been open about how his management closeted him because he “could not be gay and work in the industry”.

 The Types of Stunts and Stunt Songs

“Pap Pics”

Stunts are common, we all should know that. From the amount of staged paparazzi pictures and videos that get posted to twitter on the daily it is not surprising that stunts happen. One of the main reasons stunts happen is for publicity, I can tell you now, living in LA for as long as I did, the paparazzi aren’t at every corner just waiting for a celebrity to walk past. They are called to meet at a place where the celebrity is going to be, in order to get pictures. This call is made by the artists management normally, and many times it is done against the artists will.

“Relation-shit”

These types of stunts are the relationship stunts, normally it is two popular celebrities dating to gain publicity for a movie or song that they are doing. A popular reference to this would be Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, Joe was approached by a head of Disney, who asked him to date, at the time, co-star Demi Lovato. This stunt was to push the new Disney movie that both were starring in, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Now at the time Demi was unaware that Joe was approached to do this, so when Joe and hid dad approached her about it… wow that must have hurt.

Another example of a relation-shit would be Shawmilla. Now before you attack me for this, let’s look at all the facts. Everything that relationship has done has been staged, let’s look at the timeline.

 Ok you get the point, they are pictured together only when one of them has music to promote, In this case its Senorita. Now for more recent proofs of this entire relationship being a sham. Shawn just released an album called “Wonder” and guess what we wonder Shawn? Why do you not post any pictures of Camila until you have an album to promote? And now you have a puppy? Pulling an Elounor are we?

Senorita is a total stunt song to “prove” to the public that they are together.

“Style”

Now this type of stunt gets its name from the queen of stunt songs herself, Ms. Taylor Swift. The notorious song Style, supposedly about “Ex” Harry Styles, is probably one of the most stunty stunt songs I have ever heard. Like come on! “James Dean Daydream look in your eyes” if you didn’t know, here is a short recap on the icon himself James Dean.

Taylor has time and time again written amazing songs, I would be lying if I did not call her one of the greatest lyricists on the 21st century, the woman can write extremely well. So why would she put a nod to James Dean, a famous actor, who was a closeted, RAGING bisexual in a song so clearly about Harry Styles? She knows what she is doing.

Talking more about the “Haylor” stunt, can we please end that? It was a 3-month PR stunt that happened 5 years ago, please just get over it, they never really dated. And to the hardcore Haylor fans, there is no chemistry between them.

Now I do not go into this one much, but basically it is when you see two artists publicly fighting and releasing diss tracks. A popular example of this would be, Machine Gun Kelley and Eminem, with their songs called “Rap Devil” and “Killshot”. Their “beef” was totally staged to boost views on both sides, its even more prominent because they have the same record label, INTERSCOPE.

Please dont jump into discussions trying to come up with other explanations for stuff. We ALL recognize a few things could be off base. Just like other fans easter egg hunting. Is a LOT of what they find totally unintentional on Taylor's part? Absolutely. 5 holes, anyone? But does that mean she doesnt leave easter eggs? Anyone who had been around long enough knows that's a stupid question. Because we have done our research and actually know the whole scope of how crazy genius this girl is, so we dont find it farfetched that she might be still...being herself....

So do some fucking research. There is over a decade's worth of information here. Go to @kaylorevidence and read all their master posts. Read all of @tallcurlygirl 's fantastic update posts explaining what is going on behind the scenes. Find all the song analyses, timelines, master posts, everything. Read it all, so that you understand the history we have here. I get why it seems stupid from afar. But if someone rando got on swifty tumblr and read some theories, they would think we were all fucking CRAZY. But we just.... arent.

Just go read it and keep an open mind. Take a day and do some reading. Find out about swiftgron and taymily. Read about Taylor's whole story. Read about kissgate - the tumblr likes, the clearly drunk Taylor and her pissed friends, the horrible days afterward. Read about how we predicted Calvin because there was a business "meeting" with tree. Read about how we knew haylor was breaking up before it was announced because harry refused to kiss her again. Read about ALL the daisy references. Do you really think miss plans-everything, lives-in-a-romantic-comedy, thinks-everything-is-a-metaphor taylor would EVER use a symbol she knew was pretty much the main one everyone associates with kaylor? She put a daisy in her fucking mouth, guys. And yes, that sounds circumstantial and a stretch. But it just.....isnt. Theres straight up, undeniable PROOF that daisy is....either a pet name for her given by Karlie or some symbol of their relationship. It just is UNDENIABLE.

Anyway, tangent. Just do your research. We are sure because we understand the history and the bigger picture. Stop saying that our theories are farfetched if you have NO idea why we are sure.

why dont you like 1989???????????????

Not going to lie, this is a very loaded question. For an extremely in depth look at why I don’t like it, look the posts that are tagged with the 1989 disconnect tag on my page that range all the way from 2014 (? I think, it may have been 2015) to 2020.

The condensed (but still long I’m sorry) version comes down to three things:

- The era itself + the fans: I was horrifically bullied by this fandom for opinions that are now seen as popular (RED > 1989, being concerned about Taylor’s eating/performing/trying to overcompensate to get the press off her back habits + mental health, bad blood is not one of her best songs, not liking Calvin Harris, saying the grammys are rigged against artists of colour etc). Genuinely, despite only having about 300 followers at the time, there was a good year where I would have dozens of anons a day telling me to kill myself, that I didn’t deserve love from anyone especially Taylor and that I was every gendered insult under the sun for feeling like 1989 was a good album by an artist that usually makes great ones. I also found that trying to get Taylor’s attention made what was a horrific time in my life even worse because I took it so personally that I did not get it and it took unfollowing Taylor and stepping away from the community to fix that. Outside of just myself, the whole attitude of had/hadn’t met Taylor honestly is what ultimately turned the fandom, or more lack of, into what it is now in my honest opinion. And while realistically none of this should play into why I didn’t like 1989, listening to the album does remind me of that and unfortunately somewhat sours it for me.

- My connection with Taylor: In short, this came down to two, interconnected things: I felt like the 1989 era felt like it was made for the general public + as mentioned, I was going through a horrific time of my life when 1989 came out. Short version is that due to my own mental health, and in small part I guess to Taylor’s later admissions, I felt like Taylor went from the ‘girl next door who’d support you when you needed’ to ‘popular girl trying to please the masses’ and in a time when my life literally fell apart around me, it felt like Taylor was all I had left and even she was turning her back on me to please people who previously hadn’t had her back. And quite frankly, it made me bitter and soured any form of interaction we got with her, which wasn’t helped by feeling overexposed to her if I’m honest. Now I want to make it clear that that’s not Taylor’s fault. I was in a very sick and overly dependent state of mind and obviously Taylor was just taking the steps she thought she needed to (but later realised she they were the wrong ones) to recover. But again, it’s something that very heavily put me off the album and I’ve just never felt the need to go back to it to try make myself fall in love with it.

- The album itself: As I mentioned, I think 1989 is a good album. If I had the choice of it and a majority of other albums, I’d probably pick it as something familiar. The thing is, I think every other album Taylor has done, and especially the others since RED are all incredible and deserve to be remembered forever, so there’s definitely a discrepancy there. My honest opinion is that Taylor held back with the lyrics of 1989 to fit the pop sound and to make sure the media and toxic 1D fans didn’t come for her neck like they threatened to when Haylor were dating. I also don’t like the production of the album at all. I think at best, some songs’ productions are as good as if it had another one (OOTW is the main one here given the production mimics the feeling of anxiety but tbh I liked the piano grammy version just as much. Also Style but that’s more just because I actually like the production of that song) and at worst, it lead to the songs feeling like not only did the lyrics suffer like I previously stated, but that the emotion suffered too (AYHTDWS, BB, HYGTG and to some degree Clean [especially in comparison to the tour version or Ingrid Michaelson’s cover] being the main ones I can think of). And before someone tries to pull that “you just don’t like pop beats!” argument, IKYWT is a top 3 track off of RED for me, the production of LWYMMD is my favourite part of that song because it suits it so well. Taylor knows how to do emotional pop songs very well, I just do not feel like 1989 was the best example of that. Also, and this is definitely wishful thinking and I’m aware of that, I wish 1989 had been Taylor’s more stripped back album production wise. I stand by this post that I made years ago saying how I wish they were produced (which keeps the fun elements to those songs but also allows for the emotion to shine) and that I think that I will enjoy the 1989 songs more when they are played on the b-stage for tours because I think that sound suits them better.

Anyway, I’m sorry I know this was super long, but I guess the one sentence version of why I don’t love 1989 like I do Taylor’s other albums just comes down to not feeling like it was as lyrically or emotionally open as I’d like, hating its production and it coming out at a time of my life where everything that was happening has soured it for me in the long term.
