#please just let people enjoy yukio
Note
Idk I thought this idea might be cute:
Rin, Shima and any of the other cram school kids: their crush falls asleep on their shoulder while studying 🥺
🩵😺
Hello!
Thank you for requesting ad forgive for the delay! Ihave been extremily busy at work :c
Anyway! I hope you enjoy what i have to offer, please let me know what you think!
Tsuki's note: Reader is a exorcist here. Also i picked Ryuji. For Shima's i will let you run wild with whatever shennanigans you may think they went through.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rin
You often helped Rin study.
It didn't even need to be close to exam week for you to be with him, studying.
The boy was trying his best!
Doing his homework with you and stuff.
Today you were helping him with some extra work Yukio gave him - according to his little brother, Rin's grade were too bad and he needed extra lessons to fixate the subject.
you had explained it to him a couple of times and was just watching him do the quizzes.
You were exhausted. You had recently come back from a mission, but you insisted on helped Rin.
Yukio only gave two days to finish the regular work + extra, so...
You were peaking over his shoulder to take a look at his answers.
At time you would make him questions to confuse him on purpose - If he truly learned, then he would be able to correct you or question you.
Which he did fairly ok.
As he went on getting the quiz right you started to feel your heavy.
It didn't help he was really warm - like a fuzzy blanket.
You also felt safe, much so people dismay.
You soon fell asleep.
Rin notice your lack of replies as he asked you a question.
He turned his head to see you leaning on his shoulder.
Your cheek were pressed against the side of his arm and you were snoring lightly.
Rin chuckled to himself calling you a silly person for coming to help him even though you were so tired.
He also felt his face burn and reach 5 shades of red. But his stare at you was very kind and loving.
He thought a little bit what he should do - stay still or carry you to his bed?
He finally made his mind that allowing you to rest on his bed would be the best for your back and neck.
Rin gently lifted you on his arms and placed you as carefully as he could on his bed.
You showed signs of being kind of awake, but Rin soon soothed you while covering you with a blanket.
The boy admired you for a moment there then, in jolted , decided to try hard at his work for your sake!
By the time you woke up, Rin was fast asleep on his table, but all of his assignment were done. A bit wet from his drooling but done.
Your turn to place a blanket around him.
And so you went with Kuro to fetch something for you three to eat.
Shima ( Renzo)
You were helping him study to catch up on a pushiment that Yukio gave him - to a write a massive essay about a very rare and specific demon.
The boy could be a massive coward at times and have a terrible grade.
Other times he was oddly brave and clever, go figure.
Renzo was whinnying the whole time about how unfair this was - he wasn't the only involved in the incident, the other boys were there too!
You sighed and hit his head with rolled paper sheet - no use complaining now, what is done, is done.
You were helping read the books to gather info on this demon, but his attention wasn't that great, he often flirted with you.
He eventually complained you were being too cold with him by just giving the books some attention.
So you decided to sit next to him - shoulder touching shoulder.
This made him blush a bit and get his ears red.
The boy still played it cool, kinda of.
Being this close you pointed out things for him to take note about the demon.
It was a lengthy and tiring process.
Finally he had all the notes, just had to write in an essay shape!
While he was at it, Renzo would sometimes chitchat about something with you.
You were leaning your head on the palm of your hand and soon enough your eyes got heavy.
You ended up dozing off and your head slightly leaning on the boy's shoulder.
The sudden tough made him call for you.
No answer. No called again and looking to his side, only find you gently leaning on his shoulder sleeping.
Renzo laughed to himself, he thought you were so so cute for dozing off like that.
He tried to stay still to best of his powers!
Often times he would think about grabbing our other hand - it was in sight and not far.
Just imagining how nice it would be if he could actually hold your hand....
These thoughts made his ears go red and silly appear on his face.
He allowed you to stay there until you woke up.
By the time you did he, once more, tried a picked up line along of " i didn't know you felt THAT safe, maybe i am your knight in shinning armour"
Which you replied by going red, slapping his head and walking away.
Completely worth it, on his eyes. Your cute blushing face was the high point of the day.
Ryuji
Neither of you needed that much help studying.
You met Ryuji in the school's yard.
He said he had to study "in peace" which probably meant he wanted to be alone or away from Rin and Renzo.
You offered to make him some company!
He reluctantly agreed, to your surprise - as long as you stay quiet, that is.
You decided to read a book while he studied on the yard.
At first you were seated next to each other, but then with time you ended up leaning on his shoulder.
Ryuji was surprised by feeling you lean on his him so suddenly, to the point of complaining about it.
You giggled and explained your reasoning.
As a response you got a sigh from him and a red ear, even though you couldn't see it.
The shade of the trees and the breeze made you fall asleep.
At one point Ryuji called out to you, he wanted to stretch a bit.
You didn't reply.
He called again and look at you, only to find you slightly snoring sleeping.
He sighed again and just watched you for a moment.
His face heating up.
The boy finally decided to let you be.
His arm was tingling, but you looked awfully peaceful.
It took him a while to go back to studying - you were so distracting.
When you woke up, Ryuji teased you without taking his eyes out of the book - " hey, you up sleeping beauty?"
the reason why his eyes didn't raise from the book is because his face would burn at the sight of you.

Hi! Just started reading your stuff and I am enthralled! I hope this isn’t too all over the place but could you do hcs for Ichigo, Snake, and Yukio with a very doting and physically affectionate fem s/o? I personally always end up saying “ily” every couple minutes and just being touchy without really realizing it and it’d be cool to see your interpretations for it. Sorry again if it’s all over the place! I get if you don’t want to do it! Hope you’re well! 🖤
Ichigo Kurosaki, Snake, and Yukio Okumura With a Very affectionate s/o

Tumblr media
Ichigo Kurosaki:
Tumblr media
❣At first, I think Ichigo would be a little caught off guard by it. ❣ I wouldn't say that he hates all of the attention you give him but it does make him a bit flustered. ❣Especially if you say I love you to him and get all touchy with him in front of friends. ❣ He let you hold his hand in public and hug him but please don't try to kiss him in public and especially not in front of his friends. ❣ Especially if they start teasing him about it. Like Rukia, or Renji because you know that will. ❣ He is more than happy to let you be touchy and affectionate with him when you two are all alone. ❣ He actually really loves cuddling you and being the big spoon, it just seems like he is protecting you even when you two are asleep. ❣ He doesn't really mind that you always tell him that you love him. He just thinks it is a cute and quirky thing that you do. ❣ "I love you Ichigo!" A few minutes later "I love you!" Cue him chuckling "I still Love you too." ❣ Overall, Ichigo would not mind having an overly affectionate s/o it will be awkward at first but I think once he gets used to it he will adore it.

Snake:
Tumblr media
❣Overwhelmed is the best way I can describe someone who is overly affectionate.
❣He grew up having no one to love, and affectionately care for him so everything is so foreign to him.
❣He is also very self-conscious when you try to hug him and give him kisses. So he will try to pull away from you when you two get together for the first time.
❣So I think the s/o should try to show affection to him very slowly.
❣Start out with handholding, then kissing him on the cheek and forehead.
❣He also prefers verbal affection so if you tell him I love you all the time he will adore it much more than physical affection.
❣I mean, he still will be a blushing mess but it is less embarrassing than you touching him all the time.
❣ Once he is a little bit more use to touching you he won't mind you hugging and kissing him.
❣Just please do all that when you two are alone and not in public. He is way too embarrassed when someone witnesses you saying I love you and kissing all over him.
❣Once he is comfortable with affection he will hug, kiss and say I love you back.
❣"I love you, Snake." "I love you too." *Few minutes later* "I love you." *Cue him blushing and smiling* "I love you too."
❣ Would become more affectionate when the two of you are alone he just feels secure when it is the two of you.
❣ Overall, I think when it comes to being affectionate I think you should take it slow with Snake just so he won't be so stressed and overwhelmed. He appreciates it he just needs to get used to being loved and cared for.

Yukio Okumura:
Tumblr media
❣Yukio would be quite embarrassed about having an overly affectionate s/o. ❣only when he is out of the public, though.
❣He wants to keep up his professional image when he is teaching or around people.
❣And god forbid Rin or Yukio's fangirls catches you hugging him and kissing him affectionately.
❣Rin will be laughing so hard and teasing him relentlessly.
❣Rin: "Haha if you keep kissing him you're gonna suck up his glasses!" Yukio: "At least I have someone who kisses and what do you have?" Rin: Cue him cussing Yukio out ❣He will accept hand-holding and pecks on the cheek but nothing more when out in public.
❣He will also pat you on the head like in the animes as well to show affection. ❣But when you two are all alone he loves cuddling his s/o, kisses and he will tell you he loves you just as much as you do.
❣Calls you loving nicknames too when you both are alone such as my love, and dear.
❣Overall, as long you are not too overly affectionate in public then Yukio will not mind when you are. He just becomes a lot more when you two are alone.

About Me + Request Guild lines (Please read before requesting anything)
Hello, so I have just decided to write on Tumblr so I created this blog! I also write on wattpad my name on there is King-0f-Hearts and I am in the process of getting an AO3 account. I have a main account here where I just mess around and post on the occasion.
A little bit about me!:
My name is Elijah but you can call me either King/Kingsley or Elijah/Eli I am fine with either of those.
I am a trans man (he/him) and I'm omnisexual
I decided to start writing on Tumblr in hope of not only getting my work out there but also to help improve my writing and get requests. i also want to write without sticking to a specific book like this is any different but i guess this is how my brain will work
Request Guild lines:
My request box will most likely always be open so don't be shy to shoot a request over to me, I will be more than happy to do it.
Things I will do:
Fluff
Angst
male x male
male reader
gender neutral reader
FTM reader
platonic
romantic
Obsessive
Yandere
Suggestive scenes (No smut and as long as they are within any guidelines of the people being written)
Headcanons
Drabble/short stories (are they the same? idk)
Little disclaimer I just decided to start writing obsessive and yandere alts of characters and due to me never doing something like that before it may be very cliche and just outright bad
Things I won't do:
Smut (I do not feel comfortable writing it)
Age gap
Female reader (y'all have enough stories go read your own, there are not enough male reader and gender neutral reader stories out there so just let us have this)
character x character (I just dont really enjoy writing it, I have nothing against it just isnt what I really want to write for)
Fandoms/Characrters I write for:
Shows/TV:
Gravity Falls (Dipper, Mabel)
Arcane (Vi, Jinx, Milo, Silco, Claggor)

Movies:
None, open to suggestions :)
Games:
DSMP, only using the characters in the SMP and not their real life selves (Dream, Technoblade, Tommyinnit, Georgenotfound, BadBoyHalo, Wilbur, Tubbo, Quackity, Ranboo)
Resident Evil, only 2 and 4 because those are the only games I've seen so far. (Leon)
Sally Face (Sal, Larry, Travis, Todd, Ashley)
Cuphead, ONLY PLATONIC (Cuphead, Mugman)
Little Nightmares 1 & 2, ONLY PLATONIC (Mono, Six, Runaway kid)
Other (Books, other pieces of media etc.):
Any of Wilbur's bursonas (Simpbur, Argbur etc.)
Genloss Ranboo (I know very little about Genloss and I plan to educate myself because from what small bits I've seen it's so cool)
Creepypastas (Jeff the killer, Ticci Toby, Masky, Hoodie, Ben Drowned, Jane the killer, Clockwork)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This list is subject to change as my interests change and I gain and lose hyper fixations. Probably the Fandoms that I'm in the most in Resident Evil, Gravity Falls and DSMP but I will still write for the others.
Just because a character from one of the fandoms isn't on the list doesn't mean you can't request it it just might take a little bit because these are the characters that I know the most about.
If any of the creators or characters that are written about say or have said that they are not comfortable with stories being written about them I will remove them from the list and remove the stories if needed.
I don't have a writing schedule so if it takes me a long time to get your ask posted I am sorry! I just take forever to write and then I will get really distracted or I just won't want to write one day.
Thank you for checking out this blog, feel free to request something!
Update! I got an AO3 account! I already made a separate post about this but here's the account on this post so people can find it easier:
I can't believe you support Yukio! He's an abusive asshole that has hurt Rin multiple times and should be hated!
I've gotten like four Yukio based questions and I am now making this my official and long response.
Actually, I suppose the simple answer is quick and easy. Yes, I support Yukio. No, he shouldn't be hated. I don't really think anyone in AoEx should be 'hated' even if there are characters I dislike. I will gladly proclaim that and stick my name on it. Yukio = tonguetiedraven supported.
The long answer is below. I'm putting a break here because I got a bit wordy. I also didn't proofread and do not care at all about any mistakes.
RESPONSE TO SEASON ONE YUKIO HATERS
If you're an anime only fan, please invest the time in reading the manga. All the best bits of the anime are from it, and the story has so many incredible things that you miss if you've only seen the anime.
Now, what did Yukio do in that season to deserve hate? As far as I can remember, there were roughly... three? moments where Yukio treated Rin poorly.
First: the moment with the temp-taints when he turned the gun on Rin. From Rin's pov, this seems unfair and cruel, and strange, and since we're watching most of the show through his pov, that's our initial takeaway. That Yukio is being a jerk. From Yukio's pov though, the scene's very different. Yukio has known about demons his entire life and he has known Rin's full story since he was at least seven. He knows his twin has Satan's powers and that it is vital those powers don't awaken. The last time Satan's powers were loose in Assiah they destroyed countless lives.
Then his adoptive father and mentor is violently murdered by Satan and found in the middle of a broken Gehenna gate with a now awakened Rin in the middle of it.
Yukio, now in charge of protecting and monitoring his brother, is then confronted with his demonic half and has no real reason to believe the Rin he'd grown up with and loved all his life was still in there. For all he knew Satan's power and rage had taken over. He doesn't see Rin controlling his flames, but he does see that Rin is still at least Rin enough to want to keep him safe.
At that point you don't seem him threaten Rin again until much later on in the season. He orders him around, and he should because Rin is always reckless and there is the constant and very real threat that the Grigori will kill Rin if he reveals himself or steps out of line. (And in all honesty, they'd probably hurt Yukio too.)
The next occasion of 'abuse' would be Yukio shooting Rin in the episode with Michelle in her possessed spider demon form. They were tranquilizer darts because Rin was not paying attention and Yukio was terrified that his brother was going to get himself hurt/killed. It was arguably not the wisest choice, but I see no reason for it to earn Yukio hate. People are allowed to make hasty decisions, and his goal was to keep Rin out of harms way and take the danger of defeating the demoness on himself.
The third and final reason is the entire debacle of the paladin arc and the fact that Rin essentially got gutted for his blood.
- Yukio was lied to and manipulated by his grandfather. He was a victim in that situation. His own desire for order and protecting Rin made it easier to manipulate him, but he was still tricked and made to believe that Egin's goals were to stop the threat of Satan and get rid of the danger Rin was always in.
- Yukio took Rin's place as soon as the full reality of the situation was known to him. He sacrificed himself to keep Rin safe and when he was possessed by Satan, it was his love of Rin that drew him back out. He then teamed up with his brother and saved the world.
I genuinely see no reason to demonize Yukio for anything in that season. You can be annoyed by him, you can not click with him as a character, but insisting others hate him or that he is evil is something that is ridiculous. It's a refusal to consider his point of view as valid or even having the potential of being valid, and it's a refusal to acknowledge that people can make mistakes and have good intentions. It also tends to put Rin on a pedestal he shouldn't be on, and couldn't possibly live up to. The characters in AoEx are appealing because they have flaws and make mistakes and they're human.
RESPONSE TO SEASON TWO YUKIO HATERS
Again, please read the manga as it has so much more than you get in the anime. I love both animes, but you're missing some fantastic parts and there is so much more to the story!
Okay, I haven't watched the beginning of this season of the anime in a while because I like the second half best, but if I recall:
First 'annoying' bit with Yukio: He tells Rin to stay away from the fight. Rin, as always, doesn't listen to him. Rin is a liability and they lose Toudou and because Rin is there, Toudou now knowns that Rin is a weakness to Yukio.
Yukio then gets to Kyoto, and like everyone in Kyoto but Rin, he is very busy with all the drama going down over there and the attempt to keep the remaining eye safe while also struggling with the fact that Rin is now probably going to die if he puts a toe out of line. (And remember, Rin just proved he was happy to put that toe out of line because he didn't listen to Yukio when Yukio told him to stay out of the fight. Yukio is too realistic to think his twin isn't going to fuck it all up before they get out of Kyoto. He's just trying to lock all his emotions down until they're through with it all.)
Rin socks Ryuuji in the face, bursts into flames, and basically waves a big flag that says "I am a volatile halfling!" to the general public right in the middle of a huge gathering of True Cross members and seals his fate while Yukio is elsewhere trying to keep some semblance of order. He then has to deal with the fact that Rin got a death sentence all while still trying to stop Toudou's plans and put some kind of defense up. He gets the letter which tells Rin to be reckless once again, and tries to put his foot down. He wants Rin to stay safe and locked away so they can fight for his freedom later without risking pissing the Grigori off more.
Unsurprisingly, Rin doesn't listen. Then Yukio and Rin don't see each other for the rest of the fight, but wow, does Toudou use the Rin weakness against Yukio in that long, wet, horrible fight. He tries to rile up the hate of Rin in Yukio, tries to twist his emotions, tries to manipulate him, and tries to make him act recklessly or join his side. If he won't join the dark side, then just dying is what Toudou wants.
Yukio admits that he loathes himself and loathes the things Rin has become (a halfling and that's understandable because Rin beinging a halfling is a constant reminder that Shirou is dead, their plan failed, they're both the sons of Satan, and they're at the whims of the Grigori constantly.)
Then he has the horrible trauma of almost dying, and having his eye taken over as the flames of Satan flare all around him.
Having made it out of that fight alive, but not defeating Toudou, he then finds out that Rin had not listened to him and run head first into to danger and broken the rules of the Grigori. He punches him because they're brothers and he's angry and tired, and in need of some time to work through the whirlwind of emotions that long ass day had been.
Rin tells him after the day of fun that he can tell him anything, but Yukio has spent his entire life not telling Rin things. He has been made to keep secrets since he could speak so that Rin would keep safe, and it's just not something he can break at that point. In his mind Rin is someone to protect, and someone who is more important than him.
That's what a lot of Yukio haters miss, that Yukio values Rin more than himself. Rin, the twin he grew up with and loved, is more important than anything, and Yukio will do whatever it takes for him. He hates himself, and he hates parts of Rin, but I would argue that at the end of the day he loves Rin more than he has ever loved himself.
Again, I see reasons to not click with Yukio as a character, but I can't see a reason to think he deserves hate from everyone. Not in the animes.
MANGA YUKIO DEFENSE
I'm not really going to cover anything specific in this because, a) because this has already taken me like a half hour and this stupid comment didn't even deserve that. (Yukio absolutely deserves a half hour of my time and I'm happy to give it to him.) and b) Kato already defended/redeemed his actions in the manga that I think most people had a problem with. (His dramatic 'shooting' of Rin and his 'joining' of the Illuminati.')
What I have not mentioned about Yukio so far is that Yukio is depressed. Severely depressed. And, as far as I can tell, has been for a very long time. I don't think I've ever read a manga that has a better written character with mental health problems. It's been something that she's shown from the beginning, and that she's built incredibly well to the current arc in the manga.
I can honestly not even begin to explain this as eloquently as owlcheese did here: https://tonguetiedraven.tumblr.com/post/669753611846287360
If you hate him because he 'shot' Rin, then honestly, go ahead. I don't care who you like or dislike. Stop telling me I can't like him because of this. He shot Rin with nonlethal bullets and he did it to get away from Rin who has proven on so many occasions that he's not going to listen to Yukio.
The sword breaking wasn't his fault, nor was the seal on Rin's heart breaking his fault.
Yukio and Renzou joined the Illuminati. Why does everyone who uses that as a reason to hate Yukio seem to forget the fact that after five days there he set it on fire and set two enormous demons loose on it to destroy it? I'm pretty sure Lucifer would rebuke his membership after that, lol.
At the point of the reunion with Rin -- who he didn't know had been on a long ass journey to learn about the past and who he didn't know had lost the seal on his heart -- he wanted to die so that the Illuminati and Satan couldn't use him for their plans. He already hated himself so he saw no point in continuing.
God, this has gotten silly long, hasn't it?
Yukio makes mistakes, messy and sometimes far reaching mistakes. Yukio is complicated and occasionally irrational and self-destructive. He's calculating and tries to be emotionless because his mental illnesses have him feeling numb most of the time and self-loathing the rest of the time.
He loves his brother and doesn't show it in the best ways most of the time. He's young and traumatized, and trying to learn to trust. He's a child soldier and a teenager responsible for the lives of his friends and countless others. He's seen demons since he was a baby, and he hates the weak parts of himself, but he's reaching for his brother now instead of shoving him away. He's a well written character, even if you don't like him. He's a realistic character, and extremely important representation in a genre that rarely if ever depicts mental illness, and certainly not in such a realistic light.
You don't have to like Yukio, but you certainly don't get to tell me to hate him and you won't convince me he deserves even a fraction of the hate he gets.
This is my final response on this subject. I support Yukio. I will go to bat for him and I will continue to enjoy him and the story Kato's weaving with him and Rin. I'm so excited to see him start to heal, and I hope one day he learns to love himself because he deserves it.
I'm going to continue writing him and reblogging stuff with him. Feel free to just block his tag. It'll make everyone's life easier :)
First and Second 🎧 Masumi Usui
Tumblr media
hi hi!! are writing requests open?? if so then i’d like some headcanons for masumi with an s/o who’s izumi’s younger sibling!! if that’s okay!! (the reader can be either male or gender neutral please!!) thank you very much!! also happy fuck tsuzuru friday
did someone say ‘carried away?’ because OH MY GOD i got so carried away with this one, but i’m very proud of it! a lot of the concepts i included are ones very dear to me, and this one made me think of so many silly masumi hcs. i might make another hc list about the massu thoughts i had here but the next request in the inbox is also for masumi, so stay tuned massu fans 🖤
word count: 8625
tags: gender neutral reader, fluff, headcanons + fic, just a little bit of angst, most of this was written at various times between 1-3 am so there’s a few funny hahas in there
summary: Masumi meets the in-laws and Reader makes a new friend. Izumi is delighted at this turn of events.
Tumblr media
Izumi’s family visits backstage on the second-to-last night of Charlatan of Oz.
Ms. Tachibana is reserved, but they’re still mother and daughter. No one talks about Yukio. It’s clear to everyone Izumi is the spitting image of her dad as well as what he left behind when he disappeared.
But Ms. Tachibana still breaks into a smile, kisses Izumi on the forehead, and presents her with a bouquet of roses in orange, red and gold like a bright sunset.
(Masumi notes one of the roses, a peach bordering on pink, matches the exact shade of Izumi’s eyes. He’ll have to ask Ms. Tachibana about the species- he has a new goal to save up and buy Izumi 99 roses in the same color.)
The Director introduces her mother first, and Masumi is the first to shake her hand.
“Good evening,” he greeted. Ms. Tachibana is pudgy and warm, and her handshake is firm, but he can feel the beginnings of prominent veins that come with age. “I’m glad you could make it. Did you enjoy our show?”
“It was wonderful,” she said. “You’ve scouted some talented actors, Izumi, not to mention polite. This one respects his elders, unlike some people I know.”
“It was one time, Mom, and I was like three and barely knew what manners were. You can’t blame me for Christmas at Uncle Masahiro’s anymore.”
“What happened on Christmas at Uncle Masahiro’s?” Sakuya asked.
At the same time, Masumi said, “Thank you, Ms. Tachibana. I want to leave a good impression on my future in-laws.”
Yeah, that explained why no one answered Sakuya’s question. Itaru let out a massive “HAH” right next to Chikage’s ear, the latter alarmed but unsure whether to laugh or not.
Tsuzuru went in for the rescue and bowed. “I am so sorry for Masumi’s behavior, I don’t know what got into him. Please forgive him.”
“Oh! So that means you’re Masumi,” Ms. Tachibana said. She elbowed Izumi, whose mouth was pried into a thin, tight-lipped smile, then went to pinch Masumi’s cheeks. He fought the innate urge to shake her off. “Izumi! You didn’t tell me you had such a handsome admirer!”
“That’s a word for it,” Izumi muttered. “Don’t encourage him. Give him even the smallest crumb of hope and he’ll run with it.”
“I love your daughter,” he said. “Can I have your blessing?”
Tsuzuru made a choking noise behind Masumi, but Ms. Tachibana just laughed. “I’m afraid I’ll have to decline. Izumi is way too old for you.”
“I know, but hey,” Izumi whined, suspiciously like American comedian John Mulaney.
“But since you seem like a good boy, I have another kiddo about your age.” She looked over Masumi’s shoulder. “Reader!”
None of the Spring Troupe even noticed them enter the dressing room, save for Citron. They were looking at the prop table as the actor pointed out the cool wizard staves and a half-eaten bag of expired Fritos he found halfway during a show the other day.
Reader cocked their head and approached as Ms. Tachibana beckoned them over. “This is Reader, my youngest. You’ll have better luck with them than you will with Izumi, I can tell you that.”
“But I don’t want anyone else. I want Izumi and nothing could change my love.”
Reader’s mouth formed a big fat O. “Wait, Izu, is this the guy?”
Izumi popped the P in “Yep.”
“Oh,” they said.
Then they giggled. “Oh.”
They gave Masumi a once-over. “Ohhh,” they repeated.
There is nothing in this world that outweighs my love, Masumi thought, but if this kid doesn’t stop staring at me like I’m out of the loop, I’m gonna bash their head in with Citron’s staff.
“Hey, Izu, you tied down a good one,” they said.
“I did not.”
“I better be in the bridal party once you guys pick a date. Hear me out- beach wedding.”
“Reader,” Izumi said calmly. She wore a smile like a customer service worker on the last leg of their shift. “There is no wedding, there is nothing between us, I am single-“ Reader raised their hand to interject- “and I swear on my secret spice blend, if you take that as an opportunity to hook me up with another one of your friends’ siblings- which, by the way, is none of your business and I’m sure your friends know that as well- I’m going to strangle you.”
Reader lowered their hand.
Masumi joined them and held a hand out to Reader. “Thanks for coming to our production. Have we met? It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Masumi, Izumi’s future husband.”
Reader looked Izumi dead in the eye with the biggest shit-eating grin as they shook his hand. “The pleasure’s all mine. Treat my sister well, okay?”
Izumi buried her head in her hands.
Masumi’s on cloud nine after introducing himself to you. After all, you said you were expecting a wedding, right? How could he not be happy about that?
The Tachibanas stay in town for a few days to watch the last showing of Charlatan, then spend some time with the eldest daughter. They don’t say hello backstage, but that is… fine, actually.
He sees you once again that night for dinner at the dorms, though. You mention offhandedly you missed Izumi’s curry, and he relates to that. He’s blessed to have the perfect woman make him a perfect meal every night, and he’s glad someone else in the dorms can appreciate that, even if only on visiting hours.
The grind stops for no one. Well, it stops a little for Spring Troupe as they recuperate after Charlatan closes, but the next day Izumi is back up and at it with Summer Troupe, running through exercises like a woman on a mission.
For Masumi, though, it’s a lazy morning. All his plans today are to wake up at 12 PM (done), make some toaster waffles (done), and smoke Tsuzuru out of the room with his big-ass speakers so he can enjoy some music in peace.
He’s on his way to his room, munching on some cinnamon toast Eggos when he crosses the practice room. It’s his favorite part of the walk. He doesn’t even need to listen specifically to hear dramatic lines, Izumi’s sweet voice, and… math rock?
Lounging beside the door was Reader, a folder perched along your legs as you worked on some homework. Beside you was your phone, connected to you by earbuds in your favorite color.
You were immersed in your homework, but Masumi just had to ask. The song blasting through your earbuds was from an independent band he recently found, and he’d never met anyone else listening to it.
You feel something nudge you and you jump, but you’re relieved when you realize it’s Izumi’s loyal follower. As much as she complains about the guy, he doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to you.
The unfamiliarity is palpable as the conversation starts, but once you hear the band’s name, you’re glowing. You’ve been listening to them since their first EP, and you’ve finally got a willing audience to listen to you and why you love them so much!
You know the discography like the back of your hand, while Masumi’s a new listener, so in a lull in the conversation you skip to a new song and offer an earbud. “Hey, listen to this. Super underrated.”
He takes the earbud and sits down beside you. His arm brushes against your sleeve from close proximity. The song is sparse and dissonant. You said it was one of the most vulnerable, heartfelt pieces the band’s created, and it shows; the vocals are at a whisper and the guitar acoustic as wind effects outweigh the actual melody-
Whatever lovely trance Masumi found himself in, it was broken the second the practice room door slammed open and Kazunari strode out, Summer Troupe in tow. “Hey, it’s Massu and E-Reader! Whatcha doing out here alone?”
“Woaaaaah, look at all those papers, Reader! Were you camping out here or something?”
“I bet they were looking for triangles!”
“Wait, Masumi, were you helping Reader with homework? That’s just like the latest chapter in- eek! Actually, how about I leave now so you don’t have to deal with a third-rate third wheel like me?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Muku. Izumi’s inside, so if you were looking for her, you came to the right place. No need to be shy.”
“Shut it, hack, did you even consider that they didn’t want to interrupt practice?”
Leave it to Summer Troupe to instantly kill the mood.
You made small talk with Summer Troupe while Masumi stuck to the sidelines, not interested in the conversation but refusing to leave without the name of that song.
By the time the actors left, you handed Masumi your phone.
Masumi checked the now playing feature on your phone, his mind reading the song title over and over again. Once he got back to his room, he’d do this track justice by listening to it beginning to end with one of his high-end headphones.
“Give me your phone number,” you said. “Please?”
He’s used to random students asking him out of the blue for his number or socials, but never one that seemed as cool as you, or at least as cool as your music taste suggested. “Why?”
You shrugged. “It’s what friends do, isn’t it?”
Hell yeah. Izumi was going to be so proud that her future husband and sibling were friends.
Masumi’s eyes were straight on the phone screen as he made a contact for you, but you couldn’t help but feel a little prideful for getting along so well with one of the most standoffish members of Mankai Company.
You return home, but you make good use of Masumi’s number. Your text threads aren’t much for conversation, but you both send links to music videos to each other.
“check out this band! [link] i saw them live last time they toured and they were amazing afskshsla”
“cool. think youd like this. [link]”
You can’t pinpoint when it started exactly, but over time you and Masumi get comfortable enough to just call each other and talk about whatever. He becomes a steady, reliable friend that never judges you for anything and always chills you out.
You come to more and more of Mankai’s shows with or without Ms. Tachibana, and always show up for two or more of Spring Troupe’s performances.
For Harugaoka Quartet, you decide to drop by backstage on opening night and congratulate everyone-
-but Masumi’s the one that ends up on the receiving end of your bouquet of flowers, all of them big and pale purple.
You say it’s to celebrate nailing the a lead role, but he can’t help but notice Citron doesn’t have a single flower from you.
Both of you spend all your time just talking as everyone decompresses from the play. Even though it’s been a while since you last saw each other, you don’t need to catch up- you guys talk so much, you already know where you’re going to college at, problems and interests, everything.
You leave late when the theater’s about to close for the night and the actors are packing up props.
You hug him goodbye, and he watches and waves you off as you leave. It’s always a bummer to see you go, but your personality always leaves a warmth that he clings onto.
“Ah-hem. Masumi?”
What? Huh? Who was that? Masumi surveyed the room, forgetting where he was. Where was he?
“Boo!”
“Gah!” Masumi recoiled as Citron grasped his shoulders from behind, a mischievous smirk on his face. Masumi’s breath hitched in his throat, but he brushed off the shock with a huff. “Don’t do that. Try it again and I’ll kill you.”
“But I called your name so many times! I was starting to get lonely.”
“Then just walk in front of me or tug on my sleeve like a normal person. Or even better, go bug Tsuzuru instead. What do you want?”
“Director wants us to check the soundboard before she locks the theater. You wouldn’t want to disappoint her, would you?”
Well, of course not. Izumi was the one that dragged Masumi into a new family and a new passion, and he respected her deeply for it, but the reverence he once reserved only for her was dwindling. Maybe he was feeling unwell?
Whatever it was, he nodded, still holding your bouquet close to his chest. They certainly weren’t his first bouquet, and every actor usually got one or two by the end of a production, but they weren’t yours. Yours were his favorite color.
Citron led him into the wings of the stage. The curtains were already drawn and the house lights gleamed through the gaps between fabric and wood.
“Reader gave you those flowers, yes?” Citron asked as they approached the tech booth.
Masumi’s grip on the bouquet tightened on instinct. “They’re mine.”
“Of course! I would never dream of taking them. But have you thought about what you will say to Reader?”
“What?”
“You are a smart boy! You know what I mean. Do what feels right to you, but I think you should say yes.”
“What?” Masumi repeated, even more lost than before.
Citron’s face fell. “Keep your kangaroos! Haven’t you noticed?”
“It’s ‘hold your horses.’ And seriously, what? I have no idea what this conversation’s about.”
“Oh,” Citron said.
Then he glanced at Masumi’s flowers and how he held them so close to his heart and held a hand to his mouth. It did nothing to cover the pitiful smile on his lips.
“Oh,” he repeated.
“If you keep staring at me like I’m out of the loop, I’m going to go to the storage room just to dig up your staff from Charlatan and beat you with it.”
“But you are out of the- do you truly not know?”
“What are you talking about,” Masumi hissed.
“It’s about how-” Citron combed through his long blond hair with his fingers as words escaped him. “Let me be blunt. Are you in love with the Director?”
“She’s the love of my life.”
“Think. Just for a moment. Why do you love her?”
“Everything about her is perfect.”
“I want specifics, Masumi.”
“She is…”
Masumi’s mouth went dry. Of all the times when someone was actually interested in his love life, why did it have to be the one time he couldn’t drum up unconditional love?
Think, Masumi. She was pretty. That was the first thing he noticed about Izumi, and what drew him to her, but he wasn’t so shallow he would fall in love just because of looks. He couldn’t say that.
Her curry? Masumi loved her curry. Sometimes he would wake up and think, Day 482 of eating curry for at least one meal. I haven’t gotten jaundice yet. It was delicious and enough to make Gordon Ramsay cry tears of joy if he were real, but again, not something to fall head over heels over, even if he’d willingly eat it for the rest of his life. He couldn’t say that either.
But Citron was still watching him owlishly, curling a lock of hair through his finger and expecting an answer.
“Izumi was the one that gave me a chance,” he settled on. “She was the first person that taught me how to care for people other than myself.”
“That is very sweet,” Citron said.
But he didn’t say anything else. Masumi wondered if he was unsatisfied.
“She also showed me how to act. I found something to dedicate myself to.”
“Yes, yes, I see that.”
A lull in the conversation. Citron licked his hand and went back to combing.
“Did you just spit in your hair?”
“It breaks down the hairspray.”
“That is disgusting. Just, so gross on so many levels.”
“It’s- how do you say?” Citron asked as though he indeed knew how one would say. “Whatever!”
“So are you done interrogating me now or can we work on the soundboard already- wait.” Masumi looked around. They stopped walking a while ago, but never registered where exactly in the theater he was. “The soundboard’s on stage left.”
Citron ignored him. “Say, Reader is pretty neat.”
“Yeah, they are. They’re great at listening and so easy to talk to. We’re going to go to a small club gig for a progressive indie rock duo I showed them a while ago in a few weeks and I can’t wait to see them again,” Masumi said.
Citron covered his mouth again, this time to hide a laugh. “Very cool, Masumi.”
“Seriously, why are you acting like you know something I don’t?”
“I do.”
“Then tell me already.”
“No, no, I think it’s your realization to have.”
“Are you kidding me? I’m fine, Citron. if you have something to say about me or the people close to me, then just say it instead of being vague. Do you really think- are you braiding your hair?”
“It leaves very nice waves overnight,” Citron said, halfway through a smooth side braid. The spit, unfortunately, must’ve worked.
“Seriously, you dragged me out to skip on a favor for the Director, talk trash about my beloved and my friend, and keep expecting me to know something you’re just refusing to tell me. What’s your point? If you wanted to know about my life, you could’ve just asked instead of this roundabout conversation. I mean, I talk to Reader all the time, I thought you would’ve known already how close we are-“
Masumi shut his mouth. He blinked. Blinked again. Clicked his tongue like he was about to say something else, but no words came out, and he instead decided to purse his lips like he just ate something sour.
And Citron, ever the enabler, paused his braiding just to watch his junior go through a full slideshow of faces.
Masumi spent a long period of time sticking his tongue in his cheek and staring off into the curtains, lost in thought. Citron had half a mind to make some popcorn, but instead enjoyed the silence. Thinking was a good look for Masumi.
“Oh,” Masumi finally said.
“Just ‘oh?’”
“Shut up. This is serious.” Masumi made a very uncharacteristic groan and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m so stupid.”
“Not stupid,” Citron said. “Just inexperienced. You’ll get there in time.”
“But I wasted a whole year. What do I do? I’ve never felt this way before.”
“How a door bull!”
“It is not adorable,” Masumi retorted. He covered his face with the bouquet. Violets, his favorite. Dammit, you even remembered that offhand comment from months ago. You were such a good listener. “I- I don’t know. If the Director wasn’t love, then what does that make Reader?”
“If I may? Attraction gives way to love, but love at fistfight isn’t common. You don’t need to make a decision right away. Time will tell.”
“It’s called l-love at first sight. And I don’t want to wait.”
“There is sweetness in taking it slow. No one will judge you for being uncertain as long as you don’t play with emotions.” Citron ruffled Masumi’s hair, the latter too dazed to protest. “And I doubt you would! You’re very genuine.”
“How do you even know all this stuff?”
“I may have never carried a torch for anyone, but everyone carries a torch for me,” he boasted.
“You’re useless,” Masumi deadpanned, hoping it would hide how his heart felt so small and soft. “I’m leaving. I’m not talking to you about this again.”
As he stalked off, Citron called out, “Good luck with your fart puddles!”
“It’s ‘heart troubles!’ Say that again and you’re dead!”
Masumi in love- maybe? He’s not sure what to call it; what he felt for Izumi was real, but the way he sees you is different. All the bravado he had proclaiming his crush on Izumi goes out the window for you.
He likes you, he can admit that to himself, but it’s something he wants to keep a secret to himself for now. It’s nice. He used to think that love was preformative and grandiose and the bigger, the better, but now it’s soft and subtle with him, and he can’t stop thinking about how he wishes you were here.
(Masumi hates to admit it, but maybe Itaru was onto something when he said the best kind of love was unrequited.)
He places your violets on his desk right where the sun hits and asks Tsumugi how to preserve them as long as possible. He checks on them every morning and evening without fail, and can’t help but think of how light he felt when you gave them to him.
Only a day has passed,  but he misses you. He scans the audience for you, and when he can’t find you he busies himself with tidying up backstage after the play and hoping you’d come by again.
It’s natural you wouldn’t go to each and every performance. You were busy, and Mankai productions usually lasted a week or more. It’s understandable. But even though he gets it, he’s still the first to enter the theater and last to leave on performance days, and as much as he tries to hide his disappointment, he notices Citron give him sympathetic looks every time his hopes of seeing you again are dashed.
Three days into the week Masumi gets a text from you, wishing him a broken leg tonight. That must mean you’re watching tonight, right? He has to prepare something for you, and he’s excited.
Sure enough, look at seat 4-27 and there you are.
Masumi sees you from behind the curtain ten minutes before showtime. Nervous energy rushes to his head, but a Spring Troupe pre-show huddle steels his nerves and he gives a performance of a lifetime, definitely his best run of the play yet as he’s fully immersed in the world of Harugaoka.
The focus ebbs once he sees you in the audience during the curtain call. He’s a bundle of nerves as Spring Troupe returns backstage, but when he sees you smile and congratulate him again, it all melts away.
There’s no way he doesn’t like you. You’re infectious. He finds himself laughing with you far more than anyone else, and he trusts you beyond words.
You shrugged on your jacket as you got ready to leave again, but Masumi tugged on your arm. “Hey. Before you go.”
“Huh? What’s up-” You turned to face him and caught a big whiff of lavender. Masumi clutched a small bundle of flowers, tall licks of purple buds tied with a twine bow.
“It’s for you.” He scratched his neck with his free hand. “For the flowers last time. Thank you.”
“Oh! No no no, thank you. They smell wonderful.”
“Yeah. I need to tell you something important.” Even just saying that made Masumi’s inner voice recoil and cringe. What a childish way to go about it.
But you perked up, scanned the room, and waved your hand to your sister. “Izu! I’m borrowing Masumi!” You shouted.
Izumi shouted back, “Have him home by midnight!”
“Done deal!” You grabbed Masumi’s hand. “Hey, let’s go outside.”
“Okay,” he said, eyes boring holes into your intertwined hands. Your hand was so soft, and the fingers fit between his knuckles like puzzle pieces. He must’ve been distracted- how else would he explain not remembering the walk at all?
You dragged him to an ice cream parlor a block down from the theater, grabbed one cone for you and a cup for Masumi (“My treat,” you insisted even as Masumi opened his wallet), and plopped yourself across from him in a corner table for two.
“So.” You licked your ice cream. “What’s going on?”
Masumi dug his spoon into his Dutch Chocolate. “I don’t like Izumi anymore.” You hummed and nodded in acknowledgement, and a quiet urge for him to continue. “It’s hard to explain. She was the first person to make me feel like that.” He paused to sink his teeth into a spoonful. “But it was a lot. It didn’t feel real in hindsight.”
You hummed again, this time while swallowing. “I get that. Feelings come and go.”
“I think I was projecting.”
“Mhm?”
“I got so caught up in someone caring about me for the first time that I thought there was no other explanation but love.” Right. You knew about Masumi’s life and the loneliness that came with it, but it still stung to know he was still grappling with the past. “So I just acted like what everyone says love is. I don’t think it was love. A crush, maybe, but not love.” Not love like this. Not like how you’re the only person I could be truly vulnerable around.
He swallowed a spoonful of his ice cream. His cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk as he ate. “So yeah,” he said dismissively, like it wasn’t a huge weight off his chest.
You licked a drop of melting ice cream off your cone, and lowered it to give your best friend your full attention. “Can I be real for a second? That’s great to hear. Changing feelings means you’re growing.”
“You say that like I grew an inch taller,” he quipped.
“It’s still important, though. You learn something new about yourself after every failed relationship or crush, so I’ve heard. Makes you mature or something.”
“So you’re not mad?”
Your face fell. “What? Of course not, why would I be mad?”
“It was your sister. I didn’t want to hurt her.”
“Ohhh.” You relaxed. “She’s tough, and she gets business relationships. I’m sure she’ll get over it.”
“I hope so.”
Masumi’s spoon scraped against the wall of his cup. You weaved a sprig of lavender behind your ear.
“Got any other suitors on the horizon?” You joked.
You. I feel for you. I missed you. I want to be here with you. I wish I could tell you how I feel.
Masumi suddenly stilled. He could tell you how he felt.
After all, you’re alone in an ice cream parlor together. He gave you flowers. He trusted you. You listened to him. The stalk of lavender brushed against your hair and pointed to your eyes, tender and attentive, and the scent was coaxing him to get closer. I want to tell you how I feel.
Citron saw the signs before Masumi himself could, and told him to say yes, yes, yes. He must’ve seen it realistically working out. And you could never look down on him, you were too kind and considerate. Every bone in his body said yes, yes, yes.
“No,” Masumi said. “I’m enjoying the single life.”
“You sound like a regular bachelor,” you teased.
Don’t rock the boat. Don’t ask for more than you deserve.
Masumi shoved his heart into a bottle and let it lie there as he took the safe route.
Masumi led you out of the parlor and into the night streets together. When you were talking about a new movie you saw the other day, you went to grab his hand, and his fingers laced between yours. He escorted you to the train station, made sure you knew your route, and left after the train did, just like a true gentleman.
Then he walked home alone. He knew Veludo Way like the back of his hand, and passed by the bright signs and neon lights. His headphones canceled out the noise of street acts and the lively city as he continued back to the Mankai dorms, but no song played.
He stepped through the doors at 11:43, and Izumi welcomed him back and thanked him for being on time. Tsuzuru was halfway through a bowl of tomato basil soup Masumi could’ve sworn was labeled “taichi’s - DO NOT STEAL!!” and wondered aloud where he was. Citron asked how it went.
The youngest of Spring answered them all with a simple hand wave and “It’s fine,” and didn’t stop walking until he got to his room.
He closed the door, but didn’t flick the light on. He stood there in the dark, headphones blocking out the world for a moment, moonlight shining through the blinds and on the floor.
Masumi buried his face in his hands.
Masumi Usui does not cry. It’s not an issue of vulnerability, but just a part of him. He didn’t cry when his parents ignored him growing up. He didn’t cry when they announced their divorce, or finalized it, or during any of the arguments that led up to it. And though it stung and burned and felt like a paper ripped apart, he didn’t cry as he anticipated his flight from his found family in Mankai to America, not even when all the actors, his grandmother, and one hellbent director came to his rescue at the very last minute.
But something about laying here in his bed like a dead fish, hiding from the world underneath a blanket and squinting as he anticipated tears that would not come, only made it more miserable.
The light turned on, piercing through his barrier of blankets and searing his retinas, and he quietly sucked in air like a hiss.
“Masumi?” That must be Tsuzuru. His sneakers squeaked against the floorboards as the door closed.
Masumi grunted from the pile of blankets.
“Are you okay?” Tsuzuru asked. As the silence stretched on, he added, “Citron wanted me to make sure.”
“Citron can mind his own damn business.”
“You know as well as I do he’s trying to look out for you.”
“Doesn’t matter.” He rolled over and pressed his nose down into his pillow. “Do you ever just have something you want in your grasp but every time you try and make a move for them you always wuss out and it never goes anywhere?”
Ohhh, it’s that kind of conversation. Tsuzuru pursed his lips. This was sounding an awful lot like the impromptu intervention he and Spring Troupe held when his heart broke just before Romeo and Julius, and he had half a mind to fetch Sakuya, but it was late and Masumi definitely didn’t need to be alone right now.
And, well, geez. Masumi just said more in one breath than he did in full conversations. Tsuzuru couldn’t just leave him without feeling like a monster, even if he had good intentions,
Tsuzuru climbed the ladder to his bed, and sat against the wall, not quite next to Masumi but not at the far end of the room, either. “All the time, actually. It’s a common feeling.”
“It still sucks.”
“Yeah, it does.”
The pile of blankets rose and fell in time with Masumi’s silent breathing. Tsuzuru distracted himself with a pen he found in his pocket. He clicked it once, twice, and three times to expose the nib.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked.
“No.”
Even with seven younger brothers, comforting never got easier. Tsuzuru dragged the pen along his wrist, leaving a spotty black line along his veins. The line made hard turns and corners as Tsuzuru doodled, and formed a geometric pattern. The blanket monster steadied its breath. “I mean, not about it. But talking is okay.”
“Okay. I can get that.” The ink lulled as Tsuzuru thought up a story, anything to take the pressure off Masumi. “I wasn’t lying when I said it’s a common feeling. It happens to people all the time. When I was your age, I had the opportunity all throughout my school career to join a drama club, but I never got around to it.”
“You’re only two years older than me,” Masumi grumbled.
“It still counts! The point is, I always had a reason not to join every time I really considered auditioning, but they weren’t actual dealbreakers. I could’ve made the time to go to rehearsals and balance it with the rest of my life, but I never did, and I knew my excuses were bull even when I was still in school. I’m grateful I found my place with Mankai Company, but I still wonder how different I would’ve been if I just joined the club.”
The room was eerily quiet. Masumi wasn’t protesting, so Tsuzuru assumed he was on the correct route. “But I’m still here, right? I can’t imagine myself acting anywhere else, so I like to think that the stage is where I’m supposed to be, even if I didn’t get a head start with club activities. I regret avoiding the club, sure, but if I had the choice to start over and audition while I was still in school, I don’t think I would take it.
“Even when you hesitate, you learn something new about yourself, or the world around you. I think avoiding theatre for so long only cemented how much I wanted it in my future, and in the long run? I’m still an actor. And I’m still a scriptwriter. I might’ve chickened out, sure, but my regret is one of the reasons why I’m so determined to help Mankai bloom.”
The blankets grunted in acknowledgement, and parted to reveal Masumi’s head, still face-down in his pillow. He held them close to his body like a security measure. “But I feel helpless.”
“But you’re still in control of yourself, aren’t you? You get to decide what to do.” The bedding around Tsuzuru crinkled as he stretched out. “I don’t know your situation, but whatever you decide on, it’ll still teach you something about yourself, and let you improve yourself.”
“I guess.” Masumi rolled over and clasped his hands over his face. “Reader is just- they’re not perfect, but they’re perfect for me. I feel so comfortable around them. So why can’t I just be honest with them?”
“Wait, hold on.” Tsuzuru, who spent the last few minutes staring at the wall as he talked or drawing on his arm, snapped to look at his roommate. His face colored underneath the cracks of his fingers. “I’m going to be frank. Are you trying to ask Reader out?”
Masumi shot up like a cobra. His hair was disheveled and his blush still apparent, but he looked at Tsuzuru like he casually suggested they should eat a baby, or that a clothing line made of sandpaper was a good idea. “You trying to take them away from me, Minagi?”
“What? No! No way!” Tsuzuru smacked his hands over Masumi’s shoulders. “Everything I just said was important and good advice, but trust me this time. Ignore everything I just said and ask them out. I promise it’s going to work out.”
Masumi gave him a once-over. “You are the last person I want to hear love advice from.”
“Promise on my life. Actually, scratch that, I promise on my laptop and all my backup data. It’ll work out, I swear.”
“Why?”
Tsuzuru stared at the ceiling. “Uhh… It’s not my place to say. But it’s fine. It’ll all be fine. I’ve got your back.” He ruffled Masumi’s hair.
“Try that again and I’ll spoon your eyeballs out.” Masumi said this darkly, but he didn’t move to shake Tsuzuru off, and when his roommate climbed back down the ladder to finish Taichi’s soup, he wrapped the biggest of the blankets back around his shoulders. It enveloped him in down as he struggled to shake off the way his heart was still fluttering.
He had a lot to think about.
Something about that night in the ice cream parlor awakened something in Masumi. Ever since his crush first sprouted, he wanted you to be happy, and that wish never changed.
But he wants to be true to himself, and regarding that, true to you. You were a welcome interruption to the life of acting he was getting used to. He found himself checking your text history together, theorizing your next visit to Veludo Way despite you never uttering a word.
The feeling is strange now. He misses you, and the time you spend together is treasured, but he worries he’s growing too attached to you, like when he was head over heels for Izumi.
It’s because of this that he really decides that he needs to tell you how he feels. Not over-the-top or superfluous like how he handled it with Izumi- he does this on his own terms or not at all.
But there’s still a fear. Not about whether you’ll reciprocate- he’d love to date you but at this point it’s more about being honest to you than being your boyfriend, though he really wouldn’t complain with the latter- but he’s afraid of losing control of himself. He doesn’t want to treat you as a second Izumi.
After all, you’re his dear Reader. Not Izumi. He cherishes everything that makes you unique, and you deserve to be treated as no one else but yourself.
A night at the theater passes. Backstage, Masumi checks his phone in case you decide to come, and doesn’t notice Citron poking his head through the curtain and searching for you.
“Have you decided what to do?” Tsuzuru casually asked one night as the troupe was striking the set, and he and Masumi were carrying a box of props.
“Piss off. It’s none of…” He trailed off as he remembered their conversation the other night. Tsuzuru looked unfazed. “Sorry. Yeah. I’ll do it after closing night.”
Tsuzuru walks off, seemingly satisfied. It wasn’t really a lie, but his plans were far off in the future, and not in two days like the scriptwriter assumed. He couldn’t afford mixing two of the most important things in his life like that.
Saturday, the night before Harugaoka Quartet’s final performance. Masumi was already tucked into bed and checking his Reddit feed for the last time before he fell asleep when his phone vibrated with a text from one of the few people that could override his phone’s Do Not Disturb mode.
“break a leg tomorrow! clear your schedule after the play, i’m kidnapping you for the night”
Whatever drowsiness Masumi was feeling dies in a single shot as he snaps to attention. He’s already typing out a response when he sees the three dots appear on your end of the text app.
“i have something to talk to you abt tomorrow”
And before he can even think of a response to that one-
“FKJFKLAD it isn’t as intense as whatever you’re thinking”
“don’t worry about it”
“it’s not important”
The dots appear again, but it takes more time for Reader to respond this time. “you know how i got an apartment in veludo for yosei uni next term? i’ll show you around my place”
That seems to be the end of Reader’s multitext, and Masumi can’t help but smile as he responds. “k. ill let you know when im free.”
Closing night is a whirlwind, and by the time you pick Masumi up, his adrenaline has died down but the nervous excitement from a show still remains, or maybe that’s just the effect you have on him these days.
But the point is, it’s probably why he was so direct.
“What did you want to talk to me about?” Masumi asked.
The neon lights outside rolled along slowly. It was getting late, but traffic was just starting to let up and keep the car’s momentum going. Saturated magenta from a late-night pub sign across the street flashed across the steering wheel and your knuckles.
Green colored your eyes, and the car sped up as you left the block.
“I didn’t expect you to remember that,” you observed.
“You mentioned it.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t think it would be memorable.”
“It was you. You literally texted me that directly.”
“I’m not exactly the most memorable person.”
“Well, I remembered,” Masumi said with an air of finality.
You didn’t respond as the car followed a curve on the road, and he took the victory in stride. Then he realized how desperate he sounded. He looked out the window, watching the orange construction reflectors by the side of the road bounce light into the car and onto his embarrassed face in the glass.
That managed to shut him up for not even half a minute. “Seriously. What were you going to say?”
In the time it took for him to recover, you were already pulling into a parking lot. “Lemme show you my apartment first. I’ll get you some snacks and then I’ll explain, alright?”
“Alright,” he said.
But on the elevator, he continued. “You’re acting weird, though.”
“Ouch. I’m almost offended.” You grabbed his hand and led him down the hall as you deadpanned. “I guess you’re right, as much as I hate to admit it.”
“Are you okay?”
“I guess? It’s more of an ‘us’ thing?”
You stuck a key into your door. It swung open, an invitation into your abode. “That’s not exactly confidence-inspiring.”
“Who said I was confident?” The door opened, and you welcomed Masumi into the kitchen. “I’ll get you some hot Cheetos. I got the ones with lime.”
You turned the corner and ducked into a nondescript room. The actor might not know the layout of your apartment, but he was pretty certain that wasn’t your pantry.
Well, at least your apartment was cool. Like every student’s first time living alone, the hallways outside were dingy and the wall damage was unfortunate, but you already started decorating, and traces of you were left around the open area between the kitchen and the living room- a CD here, your chapstick there. A flowery scent permeated the air.
He scanned through your kitchen, from the refrigerator whiteboard reminders to the reusable cups in the drying rack, but his survey was cut short. In the corner of the kitchen counter was the lavender he gave you, poking out of a small glass cup tied with the twine he attached to the original bouquet.
The flowers hadn’t lost their color yet, and the stems stood strong, insisting they would last longer. No wonder why your apartment smelled so nice.
“Isn’t it crazy they’re still alive? I’m not much of a green thumb, so I’m surprised how hardy they are.” Masumi jumped at your voice. You had quietly entered the kitchen and spoke up without him noticing, then opened the door to the pantry and brought out two bags of chips. “Here. I might just be thinking of Autumn’s plays, but I’ve heard acting burns a surprising amount of calories.”
“Thanks.” He took a seat across the counter and in a living space with an L-shaped couch. “Nice place.”
You finally looked at Masumi directly, and brushed a stray lock of hair out of your face. “Oh. Thank you. I’ve been working on making it presentable for a few weeks now.”
“It suits you. You did a good job.”
“Thanks.”
“Are you stalling?”
“Just my luck you’d figure it out. Yeah, I am.” You ripped open a bag of Doritos and slumped over the couch. You were right next to Masumi, your arm against his while your head lounged on his shoulder.
“You know you can tell me anything.”
“Yeah, I know. It’s one of those things that’s hard for me to admit to myself, though.” You shut your eyes, as though it would make it any easier. Masumi felt like he was going crazy. You begun to speak, slowly and erratically as you pieced the words together like a puzzle. “Do you think something’s changed between us?”
Masumi’s heart sunk. “What?”
“It’s weird. I don’t know how to describe it, but I feel like we aren’t really just friends, you know?”
“Oh.” He stared into his bag of chips, focused on the folds of cellophane and the dark corners, anything to avoid looking at you. “I’m sorry. I’ll stop talking to you if you want.”
“What? No! That’s not what I meant at all!” You pressed a hand to your head. “Oh, I really messed that one up. I mean, you’re very close to me. I wouldn’t ruin that for the world. I just don’t think ‘friends’ is the word to call us anymore.”
“So we’re more than friends?”
“Yeah. More than friends.”
Masumi nodded with understanding and crunched on a Cheeto. “So we’re best friends.”
“Oh, come on, Masumi,” you groaned and wrapped a hand around Masumi’s cheek. “You’re smart. I think you can figure out what I’m trying to say.”
The actor felt like he was drowning. You were no stranger to casual touching among your friends like Masumi, but even this was pushing it. How was he supposed to keep a cool head while his cheeks were growing warm and here was no way you wouldn’t notice-
Then it all clicked together.
“Reader,” Masumi said. “Do you like me?”
You tensed.
“Because I like you,” he said.
The room was so still.
“A lot, actually.”
Now or never.
“It was hard figuring out everything, and I don’t want to cause any trouble for you, but you should know. I think the world of you and it felt wrong to ignore that, but I don’t want you to think I’m saying this for something in return. I just wanted you to know.”
The words spilled out of his mouth, but he couldn’t find the urge to regret any of it. Everything was true.
“You don’t have to say it back, though. I’m fine where we are, and if you think that’s weird or want to stop being friends, then…” He trailed off. “Then that’s okay.”
“But it’s not,” you said. “It’s not okay. I mean- I feel the same.”
“You like me?’
“You gonna make me say it twice?” Your head lolled further and you looked up at Masumi. As red as he was with your hand along his jawline, you were sure you were even redder. “Yeah. I do.”
“You mean that?”
You drew him forward and kissed him.
You were too caught up in the moment to remember that you’ve never really kissed anyone before, not like this, and the inexperience must be mutual, but Masumi’s hands were on you, feeling your hair and running down your neck and against your chest, and his breath hitched when you pulled him to pin you down, and you relished in it, utterly spellbound.
Your lips slid off his, and rested against his cheek, out of breath but not quite ready to part. “I mean it,” you whispered. “I- I like you too…”
Masumi’s voice was muffled as he rested on your shoulder. “You kissed me but you’re shy about saying that?”
“Oh my god, shut up.”
To his credit, he did. He dove back into your arms, taking the initiative this time, and whatever protests you had died on your lips while your thoughts were only Usui, Usui, Usui.
❖ bonus ❖
“I should probably hang up soon,” you said. “I’m going to the gig soon.”
You laced up your concert boots (well-worn and well-loved, and steel-toed to protect your feet from moshers and dancers), your phone pinned between your ear and shoulder as your sister talked over the phone. “Riiiight. I forgot you were going to a concert-“
“It’s not a concert, Izu,” you shot back. “Concerts are stadium-sized events. This one is just at a small bar venue, so it’s a gig.”
“Same thing. I think he already told you, but Masumi’s on the way to your apartment.”
“I heard. I’ve got a date.”
“Since when did you get a date? Did you tell Masumi?” Izumi sounded worried. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of you and I want to know everything when you get the chance, but I thought it was just going to be the two of you.”
“Yep, just the two of us.”
“But what about your date? Are you meeting them at the venue? That’s not exactly romantic, or considerate- HHOOOUUUGGGHHH.” Izumi gasped.
“Wow, you sound like a broken air mattress.”
“Reader,” Izumi squeaked, holding onto her breath. “Are you dating Masumi?”
You held the phone away from your ear, fully expecting the loudest noise you’d ever hear on the other end of the line. “Uh, yeah?”
……
………
Oh. That was disappointing.
You brought the phone back to your ear as Izumi continued, not at all shocked but relieved. “Oh, that’s good. Congratulations! It’s been a long time coming.”
“Thanks. I’m really glad you- wait, what do you mean, ‘long time coming?’”
“You haven’t noticed yet? Almost everyone in Mankai saw it coming.”
You stood to your full height just to glare at a wall. “Seriously? That is so immature.”
“You would too, don’t even lie. If you keep trying to set me up with people, then I reserve the right to tease you over your relationships. I so called it.”
“You are ridiculous. I hate you and I’m going to cut up all your stupid striped T-shirts. How did you even figure it out?”
“You’re kidding me. How do you not?” Izumi laughed. “The second Masumi stopped following me around on his free days, I figured something was up. He’s not very good at hiding his feelings.”
“No, he isn’t! I had to egg him on so he would confess before me.”
“Wait, what? What happened?”
You recounted the beginning of your relationship, without all the raunchy details, and realized Izumi was quietly echoing everything you said. “Are you writing things down?”
“I have a duty to know. There’s a massive betting pool on you two.”
“See?! Ridiculous! That’s so obnoxious!”
“Don’t worry, it’s a community pot. You said he confessed first, so that’s some points for just about everyone in Winter Troupe, Sakyo, Kazunari and Sakuya.”
“Even Sakuya’s in on this?”
“Spring wants to see their boy winning,” Izumi said matter-of-factly. “Hey, did you offer him any Takis? Chikage was certain you’d offer him Takis right before you became an item.”
“Nope, Cheetos. The hot lime kind.”
“They’re basically the same thing.”
“No, they aren’t. He says Takis are too spicy.”
“But the hot lime Cheetos are spicier than Takis.”
“No, they aren’t.”
“I’ll just say they were Takis. If Chikage got that one right, Itaru has to pay him in gift cards from his whaling stash, and I’m kind of miffed at him for eating a whole jar of guacamole in one night.”
“In one night? But he’s built like a curtain rod, how can he physically do that? Better question, what’s Chikage going to do with a bunch of iTunes cards?”
“I heard he was going to get Minecraft, but if you ask me, I think it’s about the principle of the matter.”
“It has to be. Pocket Edition sucks.”
A knock on the door interrupted your conversation. “Speak of the devil, he’s here. I’ll talk to you soon.”
“Noooo, Reader! I need to know if there was a love letter involved! My salary versus Homare’s pocket change is at stake here!”
“It can wait until tomorrow!” You abandoned the phone on the counter and opened the door. “Hey, babe.” He pecked you on the cheek in greeting.
Meanwhile, Izumi was still yelling on the phone. “Is that Masumi? Give him the phone, I need to do a shovel talk.”
You hung up without a care in the world, and turned to your boyfriend. “Sorry about that, Izu called. Did you know Mankai has a betting ring about us?”
He sniffed. “I overheard Tenma talking about it the other day. I thought it was a joke.”
“You thought wrong. Itaru’s in for a world of pain.” You locked the door behind you, adjusted your T-shirt, and brushed Masumi’s knuckles with your own. “Ready to go?”
“Always.” He held your hand as you began to walk together. 🎧
I may not be the best writer, but I have some tips for beginners.
1. DON'T LET PEOPLE SAY YOU'RE BEING CLICHÉ. I could go on and on about how nobody is truly original and all novels are just collections of familiar ideas but the point is NOTHING is truly original. If you are really enjoying what you are writing, even if it's a cutesy girl-next-door romance, it's perfect for you to write! "Cliché" is usually a mindset for people who like arguing.
2. Write. Those. Jokes. I see the little one-liners some writers were about to say but didn't. C'mon. Write the joke. Even if it's in a sci-fi book with horror leaking around every corner, give us some humor! It helps so much and can add to the realism! ...As long as you're using jokes in moderation. If there's a line where you can say "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" and you have an immature character, just make them say it. We know you want to. (Always use jokes in moderation. Don't use too many or else people will assume that you're "trying too hard!")
3. (a suggestion) If you are worldbuilding... ADD FOOD. Your characters need to EAT and they need to eat some original food! I know food is a hard thing to create. but if you can create a new species of flora, you can make a new fruit and a way to prepare it. Make it a tradition for a family! Or make it an unlikable food. One that makes all the little kids complain. It's cute! (Also, this is a great exercise for worldbuilding!)
4. Death. Does not. Need. To be. The SACRIFICE. Everyone has read a book where a character's life is at stake. Let's get creative. Here are some other things you can take away:
- A character's chance at happiness
- A significant item from a relative/ancestor
- Material things like houses and spoons!
- Money and fame!
- Morals
- Humanity
- PURPOSE!
5. Speaking of purpose, make each character have a purpose! This may seem obvious, but some writers (including myself) have made the mistake of putting in a character as only a comedic relief or a best friend figure. No! Make them want something! Make them want something or someone so bad that they put the protagonist at stake! (or a protagonist's items/morals) Make them have a PURPOSE for being there.
6. Give your characters morals. It's like a set of rules that they must follow because they respect it. For instance, in Tangled, Rapunzel doesn't break promises (probably because she got tired of Gothel breaking promises to get her things) and she shows Flynn/Eugene that she never breaks a promise. Make your characters do that! Let's add to it even more - make your characters HAVE to break their morals. Make them HAVE to break a promise or else they will lose their happiness. (That ALWAYS excites the readers)
7. Make your characters have understandable psychology. Nobody cares that Yukio is dark and mysterious simply because he decided to be. They care that he is dark and mysterious because he is scared to be vulnerable around others! Because someone broke his heart! Because... yeah. You get it. Make them have reason and feelings, even (especially) if they don't show it :)
8. (very optional) Use. Grammarly. Your grammar does not have to be perfect. You don't need to speak English as your first language. But please... get a grammar checker because it helps EVERYONE!
I hope that helps beginners! Feel free to comment any questions or other tips! :)
*Heavy breathing* Are you still taking unhinged asks? Becuase please can you do some Yukio and Barbatos unhinged hcs?
[leans closer to mic] I am always taking asks!! let's go!
Yukio
Was once offered an energy drink and accepted it, resulting in him not sleeping for three days and cleaning the entire dorm. The second energy drink (and every following one) did nothing
He owns. So many penguin related items. Do you know those people who don't really have a hobby or an interest but you know their favorite animal, so that's all they get for their birthday/other holidays? That's him
Once he moves out, he probably gets household items with penguins on them too. Notebooks. Soap. Towels. Socks. At some point it stopped being funny but became funny again because there's just so many
Yukio doesn't have many penguin plushies though, because he thinks they're impractical and it's embarrassing to have a stuffed animal. (also because sometimes Kuro will sleep in his bed and Kuro is extremely jealous of anything vaguely shaped like a stuffed animal)
Keeps up Skype calls with Liu (the guy from the movie) and also taught himself some Chinese to talk to him. They usually switch to another language very quickly because Yukio is too embarrassed and doesn't want to say something wrong
Knows that Shura takes her hot chocolate with rum, so he keeps some in the kitchen for her but will not touch it himself
Whenever he can tell that he might get worse, he texts Rin and they'll go out and eat their favorite food. Their other friends sometimes join as well
He owns a copy of that children's book from the movie (courtesy of Liu) and once spent an afternoon with Rin trying to write (and draw) an alternate, happier ending
Barbatos
resident note taker when it comes to gift ideas for his friends
actually really enjoys being cuddled but only accepts it from Diavolo, Solomon (and Asmodeus but it's more a matter of... Asmodeus simply cannot be stopped and he gives good hugs)
oddly competitive when it comes to playing board games/games of any kind with Lucifer
does NOT react well to energy drinks. Vibrates on a different frequency you can't possibly imagine. Time and space no longer exist for him. He hates it
will not say "i love you" to his friends but instead things like "this is my favorite reality because of the relationship I have with you"
Diavolo picks out his wardrobe except for the human world outfit because I will give the blame to Barbatos here
seriously, what is that outfit, what is he trying to do there. He should know better
apparently knows a lot about the world at the time he joined Diavolo but years of spending time at the Castle made sure that he lost touch. That's the only explanation I can give you for that outfit
why am I even farming card pieces for that card, I will NOT give him that outfit to wear
he probably got it at desigual but my mom is a big fan of that, so I am not allowed to slander it
does that mean that human world Barbatos dresses like my mom
IS THIS UNHINGED ENOUGH FOR YOU
anyway
everyone who doesn't really know him thinks he is very cruel but he just wants to drink tea and learn obscure facts about tea
the kind of friend who will allow you to insult them but don't you DARE say something bad about Diavolo
the fantastic three group chat is free therapy
was once asked if he's a dog or cat person, and took a long look at Diavolo before saying "dog, I assume"
Hello! Hello! Hello!
I'm back at it again! I'm in search for another role play partner.
Let me tell y'all a little bit about myself. My name is Laura (she/her) and I'm 21 years old. My time zone is MST. This spring I will be going into my last semester of college. I work a part time job and I'm probably going to be looking for another one, because rent is expensive. Long story short: I'm a very busy gal! Because of that my love of writing got pushed to the back burner. However I'm determined to turn that around and actually engage in my favorite hobby.
When it comes to my writing, I've been doing it since I was a kid. However I've been role-playing off and on for roughly 8 years. I consider myself to be semi lit, a standard replying ranging from 500-1,200 words. I lean more towards the latter, however am willing to match my partner. I only write with people that are 18+. I do this since I'm an adult and do not feel comfortable writing NSFW topics with underaged people. (That being said I do not generally write smut but like to write about other NSFW topics) As stated above I'm very busy so I can't guarantee a response super quickly. My response time can range from a few days to a few weeks. If that is a deal breaker I deeply apologize. I do try to supplement that with things like moodboards, playlists, tiktoks, memes and general OOC chat!
Anyways! On to the fun stuff.
What I'm looking to role-playing! I'm looking for either Fandom oc x Canon or an Original Plot oc x oc. It is a requirement of mine to double. You play my love interest for me and I'll play your love interest for you. This is non negotiable. I write with mxf or fxf relationships.
Fandom
(note: I'm AU and crossover friendly. Also open to oc x oc set in the Fandom universe!)
Marvel:
Who I'm looking for: Peter Parker (Tom or Andrew both work!), Miles Morales, Bucky Barnes, Eddie Brock, Bruce Banner
Who I can write: Bucky Barnes, Stephen Strange, Quentin Beck, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Wanda Maximoff, Natsha Romanoff and more! I find writing most MCU characters super easy to pick up on so I'd been down to try my hand at other characters! Just ask!
Titans:
This is still a very new one and I've never written this one before! However I'm super interested in trying it out if you want to take a chance.
Who I'm looking for: Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, Gar Logan, Tim Drake, Conner Kent
Who I can write: Dick Grayson, Gar Logan, Rachel Roth, Hank Hall. Once again just ask and I'm open to trying my hand at a character! Does not need to be the Titans version or a Titans character. That's just the series I'm most familiar with!
Supernatural:
Who I'm looking for: Dean Winchester
Who I can write: Sam Winchester, Castiel
Harry Potter:
Who I'm looking for: Draco Malfoy, Newt Scamander
Who I can write: Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Hermione Granger, Fred Weasley, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin (I LOVE doing oc x oc for Harry Potter so if you got ideas let me know!)
Anime:
Who I'm looking for: Kyoya Ootori, Tamaki Suoh, Hikaru Hitachiin, Yukio Okumura, Sebastian Michaelis, Suzaku Kururugi, Erwin Smith, Alphonse Elric
Who I can write: Tamaki Suoh, Hikaru Hitachiin, Haruhi Fujioka, Rin Okumura, Suguro Ryuji, Ciel Phantomhive (aged up. Please), Lelouch Vii Britannia, Levi Ackerman, Erin Yeager, Edward Elric, Roy Mustang (I also watch a lot of anime so just ask!)
Mystic Messenger:
Who I'm looking for: Seven, Zen
Who I can write: literally any of the characters!
Original Plots
Okay! So I do have specific ideas as well as genres/tropes that I generally enjoy.
Genres/Tropes:
Romance
Horror
Action
Urban Fantasy
Mystery
Super heros/vigilantes
Enemies to Lovers
Childhood friends to lovers
Bad boy/good girl (vise versa)
Forbidden love
Royalty
Celebrity (fictional/original celebrity. No real people.)
Mafia
Soul mates!
Original ideas:
These are going to be very abridged ideas for two reasons: 1. To help bring this already very long ad to an end and 2. It gives us an opportunity to build upon the idea and add to it!
Character A has to return to their home town after a series of unfortunate events that ended with their father dying. When they returns home they reconnects with Character B, their ex. But what happens when their mutual friends dig up secrets about their seemingly quiet town that threatens to put everyone they love in danger. And there is only one thing on A's mind: what if their father's death wasn't natural causes like everyone claimed.
Character A is a trouble maker who was taken in by their dismissive aunt and uncle. A now has to work in the sleepy town where nothing ever happens. That is until they meet Character B, a shinning star in the town. What happens when B's best friend is found mysteriously dead after being missing for a few days and everyone beings to turn against each other attempting to solve the murder.
Character A is a struggling ambitious artist, working in a little town. They paint murals, and sculpt anything to make ends meat. However they have big dreams of going to art school. Character B is a bartender with a carefree attitude and a love for music. The two meet one day at work and really hit it off. But can A risk having a relationship when they know they are going to be going away to school soon?
Please like this post or message me if you are interested!! Thank you for reading my ad! I'm looking forward to meeting you! ♡
XOXO
~Laura
All This Time (Yukio x Reader) (One-Shot Request for sannunah28)
Oh my gosh, Safiyah. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed writing this. While I love ‘Match-Up’s there’s just something about ‘One-Shots’ that just hold a special place in my heart. Originally, I was going to go for a much more angsty feel, but this ended up being so much better. I hope it isn’t too long. I may have gotten a little carried away. Lol. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it. ❤️
(Yukio x reader x platonic! Rin)
Slight Angst/Fluff
Falling For U - Peachy! & Mxmtoon
“You’re staring again.”
The familiar warmth made its way across my face. “Am not?” I muttered as I crossed my arms and turned away from the boy standing beside me.
“Uh, huh. Sure.” Rin chuckled. “I know you like Yukio, (Y/N). I don’t know why you don’t just tell him.”
“I could never do that!”
“Not like you don’t make it super obvious, anyways.” Rin grinned as he poked my cheek.
“You know I hate you, right?” I glared.
“Please, you know you love me.” He chuckled as he put his arms behind his head.
The idiot had me there. Hell, Rin was one of my best friends. You see Rin, Yukio, and I have been best friends ever since we were little. We used to always hang out together, but at some point, Yukio began to drift from us. Training and studying began to take more precedence instead of hanging out with us. Then, all of a sudden our trio had turned into a duo. I turned back and watched as Yukio and Mr. Fujimoto practiced their combat skills. He had said he wanted to join the True Cross Organization to become an Exorcist to help people. Yukio’s goal has always been to help people; ever since we were little that had been his dream. I always admired his ambition. It was just one of the many things I loved about him. But, as much as I hated to admit it, it hurt that I couldn’t see him as much as I used to.
After the two were done training Yukio made his way over to us.
“What are you guys up to today? It’s a beautiful day. To be honest, I’m a little surprised you two don’t want to go outside the monastery.”
“Aw, Yukio. Are you trying to get rid of us, little bro?”
“No. It’s just, usually, you, of all people, have a hard time staying in one spot.”
“Hey. What’s that’s supposed to mean?” Rin barked, getting into Yukio’s face.
I chuckled as I watched the two brothers bicker. Of course, Rin would take Yukio’s words the wrong way. Yukio loved Rin, even if he drove him up a wall time and time again.
“(Y/N).”
I turned to the voice who pulled me out of my thoughts. “Yeah?”
“I heard that Decadent Darkness was having a special on that cake you love.” “You don’t mean…” I said as my mouth began to water. “Yep. Ari came by earlier when she was visiting Dad and told him.” He chuckled.” Ari was the owner of Decadent Darkness, my favorite bakery. They had the most amazing chocolate cake. “(Y/N) we should go!” Rin yelled excitedly as he grabbed my hands. I wasn’t the only one with a huge sweet tooth. Rin was like a huge kid when it came to sweets. I looked back over at Yukio to notice him staring at Rin. There was a look of annoyance spread across his face, but it disappeared as soon as his eyes met mine.
“Yeah. The two of you should go. I’ve got some studying I’ve got to get back to, anyways.” “Oh, man. Come on let’s go, (Y/N).” Rin grabbed my hand and began to run towards the front gate. “Rin, dinner starts at 6. Don’t be late again, please.” Yukio called out. Just as we were about to exit I turned and looked back at Yukio. He was still smiling, but why did his eyes look so sad.
Yukio…
Slower - Tate McRae
It had been months since that day. And, here you were, currently sitting in class at True Cross Academy. You were supposed to be listening to Yukio’s lecture, but your thoughts began to wonder. You watched as Yukio wrote something on the board. It still amazed you. Yukio was your teacher. You guys were the same age, but because of all his hard work, he was able to skip ahead of the line. He truly was amazing. However, it seemed the distance between the two of you had just grown even more. The more you thought about it, the more it scared you. You didn’t want to lose him. So, you studied and trained your ass off to be the best Exwire you could in hopes to shorten the gap you felt between the two of you.
For a while you felt things were going great, Yukio was starting to become a more prominent figure in your life. He saw how hard you were working and decided to become your mentor. You couldn’t have been any more excited. Being mentored by Yukio meant you’d be taught by one of the best, but that also meant you would get to spend a lot of one on one time with him. Slowly but surely that gap that had been growing between the two of you slowly began to melt away. But, nothing good lasts for long, right?
Once Sheimi joined your class you began to worry. They seemed to have some sort of history together. Sheimi seemed to obviously have a crush on him and you could tell Yukio held a soft spot for her. You wanted to ask him about it, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to do it. Over time it just slowly began to eat at you more and more.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” Yukio asked suddenly while you two were in the middle of sparring.
“Huh, yeah? Why do you ask?”
“I don’t know. You just seem to be a little distracted lately.” There it was. That same look you had seen all those months ago.
“I’m fine, Yuki. I promise.”
He seemed to want to say something, but he decided against it. “Alright, then.”
I didn’t like thinking about the possibility that they could like each other so when I wasn’t training I tried to distract myself. My perfect distraction being Rin. He was always able to pull me out of my funk. However, he could always tell something was wrong. After weeks of me moping about, he couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Okay. (Y/N), what’s going on? And, don’t lie to me. We’ve been friends for years. I know when something’s going on with you. You’ve been moping around for weeks now. So, what’s going on?”
“Rin, It’s not important. Besides, it’s girl stuff. I don’t think you really want to hear about it.” I said chuckling, trying to brush the conversation aside. However, I should have known Rin wouldn’t let it go.
“Try me, (Y/N).” He smiled warmly.
Damn. He always was able to get me talking.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” I smiled, shaking my head.
*****
“Yo, Yukio!”
“Rin, I don’t have time to talk right now. I’ve got a mission I have to get ready for.”
“I promise this won’t take long.”
Yukio sighed as he turned to face his brother. “What is it?”
“Do you like, (Y/N)?”
“Rin, of course, I like (Y/N). We’re friends. What kind of question is that? Now, if that’s all I’m sorry, but I have to go.” He turned to leave, but Rin’s next words froze him in place.
“Yukio, you idiot. I know you’re friends. I’m asking if you have feelings for her.” Rin said, rolling his eyes.
Yukio stood with his back facing Rin contemplating his next words.
“Why are you asking me-” “Just answer the question, Yukio. Do you like, (Y/N)?”
“Rin, I really don’t have time for this.”
Rin just glared at Yukio. He knew his brother had feelings for you, but he was just too stubborn to admit it.
“Whatever.” Rin turned to walk away, but stopped. “(Y/N) deserves someone better, anyways.” Yukio’s eyes widened. What?
Before he could respond Rin left.
Yukio just stood there staring at where Rin once stood. He couldn’t help the nervous, jealous feeling that rose up within him.
(Y/N)...
17 - Julia Michaels
Due to the insistence from the higher-ups, your class was informed you’d be completing extra training and after three brutal hours, you guys were finally granted a break.
“Agh, did you really have to hit me that hard, (Y/N)?” Rin said collapsing onto the ground clutching his side.
“Hey, you shouldn’t have let your guard down.” I shrugged as I took a sip of water.
“Pft. Meanie.”
“Love you, too.”
Yukio had been talking with Shura when he heard you speak. Rin’s words echoing in his head. ‘(Y/N) deserves someone better, anyways.’ He turned his gaze over to you and Rin, watching the two of you with furrowed brows.
“You’ve really gotten good at your swordsmanship, (Y/N).” Rin smiled. “Do you think you could give me some pointers sometime?”
“Really? I mean I have been practicing a lot lately. I’m glad to know all my hard work is paying off.” I rubbed the back of my neck as a warm blush spread across my cheeks. “Wait, you want ‘me’ to give you pointers?”
“Yeah. If you don’t mind. It’s just your movements are so smooth and besides, Shura is a little mean.” He slumped down puffing out his cheeks, causing me to chuckle.
“I’m flattered, Rin. But, that’s exactly why I can’t help you. She’s scary. I sure as hell ain’t going to risk her wrath for you.”
“What no, please!?” Rin clung to me trying to hug me into submission.
“Rin!” I chuckled. “No!”
All of a sudden a shadow appeared over us.
“Get off her. Now!”
“Huh?” We both looked up in confusion only to see Yukio. And, he looked pissed.
“Yukio, what’s-” Before I could finish my question, Yukio had grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me away from Rin.
“Hey, Yukio! What are you doing?” He didn’t say a word as he kept on walking. I looked back at Rin confused to see him smirking at me. What?
Once we had reached a small clearing in the woods far from the others Yukio let go of my hand.
At first, we just stood there as the sounds of the forest filled in the silence between us. Yukio stood in front of me, however, all I could see was his back as it rose and fell rapidly. At some point, he had broken out into a run after he had pulled me away from Rin so it’s no wonder he was a little out of breath. After another moment I decided to break the silence.
“Yukio, what’s going o-”
“(Y/N), I’m sorry I…”
There was that look again. That same sad, pleading look I have seen so many times before. “Why do you always make that face?” I whispered.
“Huh?”
“Whenever you look at me...Your eyes...They look so sad.”
Yukio’s cheeks turned red. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I did that.“
Silence began to settle between you two. Suddenly you just decided to ask the questions that had been on your mind for months now.
“Do you like Sheimi?” Sheimi? “You like her, don’t you?” Yukio’s face blushed. “What, no? (Y/N)-” He began to panic. “Wait, you think I like Sheimi?” I looked up into his eyes. “Don’t you? I mean you two always seem so-”
Suddenly, I was interrupted as Yukio pulled me into a searing kiss.
He moved his hands to softly cup either side of my face. I was too stunned to move. When he moved to pull away all I could do was stare at him with wide eyes.
That’s when I realized...Yukio shared my feelings. Yukio…A blush began to spread across my cheeks. I felt him begin to slowly pull away from me, but he suddenly stopped when he felt my hands wrap around his. I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his. Yukio didn’t hesitate to reciprocate as he sifted his hand through my hair and pulled me in closer.
After a couple minutes, we finally pulled apart.
“I love you, (Y/N).” He said resting his forehead against mine.
“I love you, too, Yukio,” I said hugging him. “Although, if I can be a bit honest, this feels like such a dream right now.”
“I know. Here all this time I thought you liked, Rin.” He mumbled.
“What? No. Rin’s like a brother to me,” I chuckled. “Besides he’s known since we were kids that I liked you.”
Yukio chuckled. “It looks like I owe Rin an apology.”
“Yeah. I’d say so.” I giggled.
“But, that’ll have to wait. Right now, we have a few years to make up for.” He smirked.
Then once more I was pulled into his searing kiss.
*****
Bonus:
Yukio’s POV:
“Rin, I owe you an apology.”
Rin chuckled and crossed his arms. “I’m listening.”
I sighed. “You can’t even be humble about it, can you?”
“Nope,” He smirked gleefully. His tail swinging back and forth behind him. “Besides, it’s because of moi that you two finally got together.”
“I wouldn’t quite say that.”
“Yukio…” (Y/N) chuckled nudging me.
I sighed and bowed. “I’m sorry, Rin.”
“Aw, no hard feelings, little bro.” Rin scooped me up in a tight hug. “Don’t let her go this time, you idiot.” He whispered into my ear.
When I pulled away a dumb smirk was plastered against Rin’s face. “Now who’s up for some burgers, yeah?”
“Oh, my gosh. Yes. I’m starved.” (Y/N) giggled beside me.
I just chuckled. I’m glad she has someone like you looking out for her, Rin. But, don’t worry.
I smiled down at (Y/N) as I took her hand in mine. I’m not letting her go.
(Y/N) turned and looked up at me smiling.
Not after all this time.
Tiny edit: I’d love to hear the feedback for this one! <3
Warnings: Spoiler in the last headcanon in Yukio’s part!
Tumblr media
★ Characters: Rin, Yukio, Mephisto, Lucifer, Amaimon, Astaroth.
★ Words: 2,1k.
Rin:
Tumblr media
no matter where, who’s watching, or what had happened before, he’s gonna give you a big, big hug! he absolutely lives for your hugs, it soothes him emotionally so much and works as immediate relief.
almost always his one hand wraps around your waist, while the other one goes on your head as he nuzzles into your neck; his hugs are always tight, almost as if you were about to get taken away from him - he doesn’t really feel like that inside, but.. he likes feeling that you’re here. present. for him.
after a fight, he immediately runs into your arms and almost makes you both fall on the ground as you nearly lose your balance when his arms wrap around you; feeling your embrace, your warmness.. something in his mind switches right away and he’s calm. he’s still shaking, but it gradually stops as he relaxes in your arms.
at first, he might be a little shy, but when he gets comfortable, he can’t keep his arms away from you. He just.. loves feeling you. hugs make him somewhat vulnerable, because he lets his frustration out, and at the same time - Rin gets an extreme dose of serotonin. He tends to place his forehead on yours just before he loosens his hold on you, and eventually moves on do to his things.
depending on your height, he still loves hugging the same! if you’re short - during hugging, he also places his cheek on your head, leaving a soft kiss on your hair. if you’re tall - he loves!! hugging!! into your chest!! or whatever he reaches!! he’s just snuggling into you like a madman.
he gets butterflies in his stomach when you hug him from behind and almost starts stuttering. (do it when he's cooking or sumn,, but u didn't hear it from me)
also, please, PLEASE wrap your arms around his neck. he’s gonna MELT.
Yukio:
Tumblr media
his hugs are rare, but it’s not like he doesn’t touch you - it’s just Yukio being Yukio; hugs make him vulnerable, similarly to Rin, except that it’s Yukio’s way to “open up” about his problems a little. It’s surely a very small step forward, but it shows that he's trying, yet he doesn’t realize how much it actually helps him.
he prefers to hug somewhere where there are not so many people around, not necessary in private completely, but as long as you’re the only one with him in the room, he’s down for a hug if he feels like it (or you beg him enough lol).
he’s usually silent during hugging, but he really “quietly” lets his frustration out, you might even catch him sighing. at first, he embraces you with only one arm and places his head on your shoulder, but when it hits him - the emotions, that he’s been waiting for years and now he’s finally able to tell someone everything - he’s almost crying, but he intertwines his other hand with yours instead. even though there are no real words shared, his love language involuntarily shows the beauty of his complicated personality.
now, he’s a little “unwilling” to hug you, mostly because of all that emotions crashing on him, but he feels so much better afterwards.. it’s unreal, he feels like you used some kind of magical spell on him.
the worst time to hug him is probably when he’s angry - and while it seems like a totally normal thing, it doesn’t work as comfort for him - it makes him even more upset, so it’s really best to leave him alone for some time. he knows your intentions are good though, so usually, he comes back to you with a calmed mind and apologizes.
I picture his S/O being in this mess in chapter 126, where the twins just beat the shit out of each other, and suddenly Yukio’s s/o comes up to him and stops from shooting Rin - he’d have that mental wall blocking him from hurting you in any way, just when he realizes he points his guns at your face or grabbing his hands and attempting to get Rin out of his target range - both of those things and any similar scenarios would end up with him looking at you with those beautiful, yet unfortunate eyes showing so much pain and sadness, along with that broken expression on his face, hoping to understand him.
Mephisto:
Tumblr media
we’re gonna have fun here. hugging with Mephisto is pretty common, he likes touching you physically and doesn’t really care if people see it - he’ll push boundaries as far as he can, but unless it’s someone or something really important, he stops and gets serious.
^unless it’s Arthur, he could politely knock on the door. Hearing the permission to come in, the first thing he sees is Mephisto hugging you with a hand on your lower back, heading dangerously onto your ass while casually giving him random papers and smirking at him. wow.
if you think the twins’ grip was tight, Mephisto’s gonna literally try to squish you into his body - it’s not hugging if your bodies aren’t touching themselves in EVERY possible way. You could be practically glued to him and he won’t complain - in fact, he’s gonna have that shit-eating grin and tease you by saying “hmm, aren’t you needy, darling? you can’t be away from me even if I work!” (even if.. it was him who called you over...)
he GETS handsy and you can’t do anything about it. and he really does it on purpose, just to tease you and see how much time it takes for you to get either horny or snap at him. nonetheless, he likes to place hands around your waist or just on your hips, then shove you into him, so he’s able to whisper sweet nothings in your ear.
hugs definitely show his rather “softer” side, the silly one - but he also doesn’t hesitate to hug you when he’s serious; these hugs, however, tend to be quicker but more intimate. even if it’s just him standing next to you and placing his hand on your hip while watching the dark sky, stars flickering slightly as you feel a slight, cold breeze hit your face; you look at him, wondering what he’s thinking about, this incredibly sharp mind with hundreds, perhaps thousands of different thoughts. Is he reflecting? Reminiscing? Regretting? or is his mind wandering around some silly thoughts? Yet you’re the one left wondering, not noticing his emerald eyes have focused on yours a while ago. You take your eyes off him, slightly embarrassed, hearing only a faint chuckle and feeling his grip tightening on you as you two once again gaze at the glittering galaxy above you.
Lucifer:
Tumblr media
due to his body being not as strong as Mephisto’s - he’s usually down for cuddling instead. however, when some of the elixirs do their job, he’s gonna give you hugs pretty often.
prefers to be in private when he really wants to give you a genuine hug; he doesn’t want to show others he fell for the trap named “love”. he lets himself be a hypocrite about it, for once (ekhem satan and yuri).
Of course, tiny hugs wouldn’t be forgotten while attending stuff anywhere else on Dominus Liminis, but they’re just quick hugs when you walk past him. he isn’t ashamed of you by any means, in fact, he’s proudly walking along with you most of the time, having a hand either on your waist or interlaced with yours.
Lucifer’s hugs are very, very confident and send butterflies to your stomach - he radiates that strong energy to make you feel secure in his arms - the world could be falling, but as long as you’re in his arms, he’ll do anything to protect you from any harm, even if this means losing his precious body.
sometimes he hugs you in his own, unique way - he interlaces both of his hands with yours and places his forehead against yours, closing his eyes and sighing softly. while you might think it’s not really a hug, it’s definitely a very sweet gesture. you can get a kiss on the temple or a few sweet and uplifting words whispered in your ear too, if he feels particularly affectionate that day.
his views on physical contact are... a little bizarre; he’s confused and doesn’t fully understand the purpose of it, yet - he will admit it’s quite satisfying. feeling your lover is definitely something that feeds the feelings he’s had deep within him. he might be a little stiff when you introduce him to this too, no matter how many times he’d seen humans do it - experiencing it for the first time is new to him, but surely it is something he grew to enjoy.
Tumblr media
 so what’s that “hugging” thing again? you just wrap your arms around someone and.. that’s it? are you supposed to just stay like this? how long? - that’s pretty much half of his thoughts going through his head when he hugs you.
it takes him quite a long time until he “learns” it just “makes him feel better”. he understands (kinda) the idea of it, but deeper down, he’s still pretty puzzled.
In the early stages of hugging, Amaimon didn't realize how strong his hugs were - if he didn’t break any bone of yours, then it’s a miracle. As soon as he noticed you almost passing out, he stopped and the guilt of possibly causing you harm has kicked in, so he promised you to make it up the best way he can.
Amaimon doesn’t realize it - but as time passes he grew used to hugs! Especially greeting hugs, which at this point he doesn’t realize he gives  - it’s become a habit of his.
not a fan of long hugs - to say it bluntly, he becomes bored if it lasts too long (unless there’s been a fight beforehand, in this case, he understands you want to regain the sense of security that physical body is able to give). he likes quick hugs instead, which he gives more often.
Amaimon’s hugs are pretty simple - he wraps his arms around your waist and that’s.. pretty much it. He might rub your back sometimes, but to be honest - he just likes the simplicity. Funnily enough, when Behemoth notices you hugging, he also wants to participate! Tiny demon bounces your way and while it’s near your leg, he starts clinging to it and nuzzling himself (Amaimon’s kinda >:((((((( when he sees Behemoth snuggling, but it’s his boyo so he forgives him).
However, Amai gets really mad when he sees you hugging someone else than him. Unless it’s a close friend or family member, he’s.. somewhat accepting this, but if it’s someone he doesn’t know - he’ll either try to fight them or take you bridal style in his arms and just go away.
He also gets awfully handsy, which he probably picked up from Mephisto. His one hand might slowly slide down to grope your ass cheeks; when you look at his face questionably, he’s just gonna place the other hand on your ass as his answer.
Astaroth:
Tumblr media
his understanding is even worse than Amaimon’s, so he’s initially against it. he doesn’t understand the purpose of it and it's very hard to convince him otherwise, saying something along the lines of “if you need your “physical contact” we can fuck on the counter”.
continuously asking him would only make the situation worse, as he’d get annoyed more each second, eventually making him leave the house for a few days. one situation, however, changed his mind the most - he’s once lashed out at you, leaving you crying. he left nonetheless and waited a few days until he cooled off. feeling bad for his actions and regretting doing it for once, he came back, but instead of confronting you - he left a withering rose with a note.
he’s learned a little bit from that situation - seeing that you accept his quirks, he decided to try out some of your ideas - including hugging. and oh boy, how wrong he was.
he will NOT admit he likes hugs for his life; very “tsundere” approach to it, but you can catch his face being relaxed sometimes.
his favorite hug is.. hugging you from behind! whenever you’re cooking or being busy just in general, he loves surprising you with a hug, encircling his hands around your belly as you flinch slightly, not expecting him. as an apology, he places a gentle kiss on your shoulder.
due to him being nasty, you gotta bear with his dirty-talking he’s “performing” every time he hugs you. he also WILL tease you by groping your chest with no shame, attempt to give you hickies, and after a while - move his hands dangerously near your chest.
“all I want is everything, yes everything, too much is not enough. I’m sick of settling for in between and I’m not giving up."
YUKIO OKUMURA ☆ BLUE EXORCIST
☆ previous imagine: ♡  ☆ masterlists: ♡ ♡
☆ note: I wanted to write an au! with jealous yukio. PLEASE VIEW MY LAST POST!!
Tumblr media
“hey Yuki!” you said as you plopped yourself down next to him, “whatcha doin’?” you asked giving him puppy eyes.
Yukio sighed knowing you wanted something. you never came up to him with that face unless you did something wrong or wanted something from him. he looked over to you with a semi-annoyed expression.
“so, Rin and Shima are having a party later tonight and you should totally come,” you mentioned as you sat on your knees, pouting your lip, “Rin told me to tell you that as his twin brother, you need to been in attendance of the first party of the year,” you added on.
Yukio growled lowly.
ever since you moved in with Yukio, Rin had to compromise and find another roommate, leaving him to bunk with Shima. the two of them were finally ‘settled in’ as they liked to call it and wanted to throw a party.
“and I’m guessing he wanted you to tell me so I couldn’t deny the offer?” you nodded cutely making him sigh, “fine but I’ll only be there for a few hours. you know I hate partying,” you clapped happily before placing a kiss on his cheek and texting Rin that Yukio attending the party was a go.
throughout the entirety of both of your college careers, Yukio attended maybe at least two parties with you. you usually went out with Rin considering Yukio oddly enough trusted Rin to keep you safe if anything ever went wrong.
he would usually ask how the party was and left it at that. however, there was a few times where you had to hide the fact that some of the people were little overly-friendly and Rin had to step in and tell them to back off. it wasn’t that you were trying to hide it from him but Rin, as well as yourself, knew Yukio would more than likely try to find whoever it was and give them a word or two.
a few hours later, you were putting the final touches to your outfit when Yukio walked in to see if you were ready to go.
“hey Yuki!” you said giving him a kiss, “you look...nice,” he murmured under his breath. you laughed knowing exactly what he meant, “I’m dressing this way only for you, Okumura. don’t start getting jealous!” you joked.
Yukio rolled his eyes as he brought you closer to him and hid his face in your neck, “I’m not jealous. just don’t expect me to let anyone come near you,” he warned making you laugh, this time a bit more nervous.
after you put your shoes on, you and Yukio hopped into the car and made your way to Rin’s apartment. you could tell Yukio was a bit annoyed that he actually had to leave the comfort of his house, on a Saturday no less, to attend a party with college students acting like completely idiots.
“we have arrived!” you screamed to Rin and Shima as both of them whipped their heads up, “hey!!” Rin screamed back as he ran to Rin.
Yukio patted his twin on the back as you grabbed yourself a White Claw [I frankly find them disgusting] and a water for Yukio, “did you invite half the damn campus? why is there so many people?” you asked Rin as he looked over to Shima.
“he invited almost every person who was in a frat or sorority and told them to bring friends” Rin replied a bit annoyed. you chuckled as you found an empty couch for you and Yukio to sit on, “but have fun and I mean that fully towards Yukio,” Rin joked making Yukio punch him on the arm.
you and Yukio talked with a few of your friends as Rin turned the lights low and the music suddenly turned to a few slow song. you looked over to Yukio and offered your hand to him to which he reluctantly agreed.
“Yukio, enjoy the damn night!” you whispered in his ear as you noticed him becoming more and more stiff the more the two of you danced, “it’s not that I’m not enjoying it. I can see the looks some people are giving you and it’s annoying,” he responded making your face warm up in a flustered manner.
you shook your head before going in for a kiss. luckily for Yukio, the living room was dark enough to where no one could see the two of you making out. you knew that sometimes your kisses could distract him from whatever was bothering him.
“and they can look as much as they want. I came here with you and I’m leaving here with you,” you whispered in between kisses, “now forget everyone else and slow dance with me. when’s the next time we’re going to be like this?” you asked rhetorically.
Yukio put his forehead on yours, “our wedding,” you let out a mixture of a squeal and a nervous laugh as the song ended.
you and Yukio watched Rin get on top of a chair with a pan and spoon in his hand before hitting it vigorously. you knew whenever Rin did that, it usually meant that a round of some drinking game was set to begin.
“I bet he’s going to want to play beer pong,” you whispered to Yukio, “he lost at the last party and he’s so determined with beating Bon,” Yukio laughed as he watched Rin come up to you.
“dude! you’re the only good person who knows how to play. be my partner?” he asked as you sighed, “Rin, I told you I would never be your partner again, especially after what happened last time,” you stated blankly making Rin start begging for a solid thirty seconds before Yukio told you to play with him so he could stop complaining.
you walked up to the table with Rin standing next to you excitedly. Yukio was standing on the side with a few other people.
Yukio was watching you talk with Rin but he couldn’t help but overhear what the others were saying about you. he tried to ignore the comments they were saying about the way you were dressed but the anger eventually became too much and he looked to them with a deadly glare.
“I suggest you stop making those comments about my girlfriend before I give you reason to shut your mouth,” the boys looked at him before laughing a bit too loudly, “or what? you’re gonna hurt us,” one of them mocked, “maybe you should reconsider the outfit your girlfriend wears out if you don’t like the comments she gets,” the other continued.
Yukio looked at you as he set his drink down and gave you a quick look before sending a wink and turning back to the two boys.
you stared back at Yukio, confused as to why he was so upset all of a sudden. before you could react, however, Yukio swung to one of the boys as his hand landed a clear punch to the boys nose.
“YUKIO!” you screamed as you and Rin dropped the game completely and ran over to him, “what happened?” you screamed as you stared down to the boy who was now bleeding profusely.
Rin and Shima looked at Yukio for an answer, “he was making comments about you and I dealt with it the way Rin would,” your hands covered your mouth in shock.
you grabbed Yukio’s now bloodied hand and dragged him to the bathroom as Rin, Shima, and Bon kicked the two boys out of the apartment.
“Yukio, you shouldn’t have done that,” you reprimanded softly, “you should have let it go or at least called me over,” you grabbed the only thing Rin had in the medicine cabinet to clean the small cuts on his hand.
“and you were going to do what?” he asked jokingly, “I don’t know. I could’ve punched them or Rin could have!” you exclaimed as you grabbed the gauze to start wrapping it.
“if I would have let Rin do that, he would’ve done a lot more damage than I would have,” you nodded knowing had a point, “still! the next time that happens, just walk away. I don’t want my boyfriend getting a ticket for assault,” you finally finished wrapping his hand before placing a kiss on it.
“but I appreciate you defending my honor,” you giggled as Rin walked in, “YO! THAT WAS THE SICKEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN YOU DO!” Rin yelled as you and Yukio told him to quiet down.
Rin grabbed Yukio by the shoulders before shaking him, “you broke his nose! do you realize that?” he continued to yell. you shook your head knowing Rin was probably too drunk to realize how loud he was being.
“we’re heading home now,” Yukio told Rin making his twin groan in annoyance, “it’s only two in the morning!” you nodded before slipping your hand into Yukio’s gauze wrapped one, “exactly. I’m tired and I’m sure Yukio wants to forget the rest of tonight. we’ll see you tomorrow,” you told Rin as he shook his head.
as you and Yukio made your way out to the car, you could help but lean into his ear, “and for defending my honor so well, as soon as we get home, I’ll show you my appreciation,” Yukio’s eyes widened, realizing what you meant as he chucked you over his shoulder and ran towards the car making you laugh.
if it's not much of a bother, can i ask for a scenario where izumi has a little sister (reader) and she visits the mankai company one day because she misses her? how would the actors (you can pick who!) react knowing that all the acting genes went to the little sister and how do they find out about it? uwu thank you very much~ ღ
So sorry for the delay! It was really nice to come up with the idea so thank you very much for the prompt sweetie! 💕
 Hope you like it
-
Mankai watching Izumi’s sister! reader acting for the first time
It was Thursday morning and being weekday, everyone was running in and out around the dorm; students were in school, adults were on their jobs and you were about to ring the doorbell for the fifth time, when a man in a green suit with patches came out followed by a talking bird.
“Stupid Matsukawa, stupid, stuuupid!”
You wondered if that was the norm around there.
“Will you shut it!” the man with old clothes scolded the animal as he turned to concentrate on the call. He bowed repeatedly to an invisible person “I’m so sorry sir!, I must have taken it to the opposite place…ugh?! Y-you need it that early?! I-I’m outside now, so I’ll run to-!
Unsure, you tried to catch his attention, seeing he might be gone before you could talk “Uh…” He turned, breathing so heavily that you jumped a bit “Hi, sorry I’m Izumi’s-”
The man didn’t even let you finish, “Director! She has gone to help a fellow theatre so you can wait inside! I need to solve some matters but Kamekichi will show you the way” he pointed to the bird flying over you two. At this point, you were barely following what was going on “Now, if you’ll excuse me!”
Before you could even respond, the manager of Mankai had already sprint to try and fix whatever accident had happened. You scratched your neck.
“Come inside, visitor, it’s too hot outside!” he yelled, “I’m going to get a sunburn!”
You pulled out your phone as you eyed the talking bird. Hadn’t expected your surprise visit to turn out like that. You were thinking about actually calling Izumi but...
You lifted your head “Okay little bird, guess I’ll enter. You’re right that it’s too hot to wait here anyway”
“My name’s Kamekichi, you dumbo!”
The bird turned and you followed him inside the big dorm. Excusing yourself before taking your shoes off, you waited for a response that didn’t come. For being such a big place filled with people, as Izumi always said, it sure was empty.
You roamed around the area, not sure if to stay in the lounge or investigate a bit as you waited. It was spacious and something smelled great over what you guessed was the kitchen “Curry…?”
A happy smile reached your face when you saw it was indeed curry. You had missed Izumi’s cooking so much now that she lived here. But you heard her so happy about the theatre that instead of asking her again to try and make time to go home, you took the first train in the morning to go to Veludo.
Gaining more confidence, you decided to look around some more, finding in no time the big courtyard.
“Everyone lives around the garden!” placing himself on your shoulder, Kamekichi had taken the guide role seriously. The bird had been talking non-stop, pointing with his beak different places and random objects you two found on the way.
…There was an insanely big amount of triangle objects laying around, now that you noticed.
“Mmm?” reaching one of the benches, you found what seemed to be a script. Not surprising, taking into account there was always supposed to be a few plays in motion.
You hesitated, but in the end, you couldn’t help but want to take a short look. You had read such great comments about Mankai, it had been a pity you lived so far to make it between your classes and works “Oh… this is pretty interesting?” flipping the pages, you found yourself needing to know more about how that play would turn out. The characters' dialogues were really good and, at some point, unconsciously, you found yourself reciting the lines out loud, enthusiastically.
So enthusiastically, that you had effectively caught the attention of the few dormant that hadn’t noticed a new person from inside their rooms.
                                          ..................................
“Thank god we are finally here!” Izumi left the bags on the entrance as Tsumugi held the door so Tasuku could bring some boxes inside “Matsukawa-san…?” she hummed as she opened again her phone.
“Something wrong?” Tsumugi walked next to her as they both headed towards the living room.
Izumi frowned, her fingers moving around the screen “Yeah, looks like he mistook another… Uh, guys? What are you…? Banri-kun, what are you doing here?!”
The autumn leader rolled his eyes while Citron greeted them with a whisper and Azuma smiled. All three of them were looking at the courtyard in silence.
“We were enjoying the performance. Cute, right?” Azuma pointed at you, moving around in the garden “She has been reading out loud the script someone from the summer troupe must have left. I have to say, I’m impressed”
“Yeah, don’t know who she is but she sure has some freakin’ skills man”
Izumi’s eyes opened wide when she heard your voice. No way that was you. When...?
“Yes, she is very amazing! No matter how much noise Banri or me made when we left the rooms, she did not get distracted!”
It was true. You were so immersed in the script that you had barely paid attention to what surrounded you. That’s how good you thought the script was. You were just about to turn when something grabbed you, making you scream.
“Y/N!”
“I-Izumi?”
“Why are you here? Wait, I’m confused, did we arrange anything? Sorry not being here! I’m usually around the dorm but a fellow theatre asked us to help carry some props and they usually help us so much that-“
You smiled. Your sister was one hell of a bouncing ball since you had memory “We didn’t decide anything! I just really missed you so I decided to drop by”
Izumi gasped and tightened the hug, saying over and over how happy she was to finally see you again and how much she had missed you too. You laughed, squeezing her too and enjoying her warmth and familiar smell.
“Were you here long?”
“For a bit. I think it was the manager who let me in and, uh, the bird showed me around?”
She nodded, understanding the confusion in your voice “Yes, they are… anyway” releasing you, she looked at you up and down “You look great! I’m so happy you are here. Come, let me present you some of the actors. Others are working and the youngest in high school… well, at least all were supposed too” she glared at Banri.
The crowd that had awaited watching the sibling exchange approached you, still shocked by finding out you two were related.
“So you are director’s sister?”
“Pleased to meet you, Y/N-san”
“It is so happy to meet you, yes! Let us hear stories from young times later!“
“Yo, little director, not bad”
You now understood why Izumi said they had a vast variety of personalities within the dorm “Nice to meet you!”
“These are Citron, Azuma-san, Banri-kun and… Tsumugi, where’s Tasuku?”
“Was she the one acting?” a man the age of Izumi, pretty well built, had appeared from inside, eyeing you with an intense look in his eyes “I could hear from the entrance. Good voice projection”
“This is Y/N, my sister”
“That delivery was indeed really beautiful” the young man with light blue hair smiled at you and you couldn’t help but blush at the compliment “I’m assuming it’s not your first time”
“Fufu we did have fun seeing your acting”
“After deciding you were not a spy, of course!”
…You wanted to hide embarrassed. Just how many people had been watching you? “I’m so sorry! I took this script and read it out loud” you held the script and gave it to Izumi.
Banri whistled, hands inside his pocket “You gave it a good read too. So that’s where all the actin’ from Yukio-san went to, uh”
“We will have a talk later about you being here on a school day, Banri-kun… I wouldn’t be speaking so cheekily”
Tsumugi laughed nervously at the exchange, turning again to you “Do you act, perhaps?”
You considered it “I’m doing theatre but it’s a small club. It’s a hobby rather than the passion Izumi and our father had”
“Don’t say that, you guys are great! You really need to rethink about doing theatre, I could help you with…”
Every one of the actors could already picture just how many times you two must have had that same conversation, judging by your face. Tasuku decided to interfere.
“You know, I wasn’t able to watch you, care if we do an improv here?”
“Ah, as expected of one of our biggest acting addicts”
“I too want to perform the improv!”
Azuma looked at you, smiling softly when he noticed you fidgeting. Before you could reject anything though, Izumi answered for you “That’s such a great idea!”
Guess you didn’t have a choice.
                                         …………………………………….
“We’re back!”
“I can smell curry even from here…”
“Masumi-kun, stop! I’m sure director will be there even if you…!”
“F in the chat, I’m so tired, Tenten…!”
“Why are you looking at me like I should do something about it?!”
“You guys tell me, I still need to get to my part-time job as soon as we finish lunch…”
The summer and spring members entered the dorm chatting with each other, as always, when Sakuya stopped and headed to the garden, hearing the noise “Why is everyone outside?”
The rest followed. There you stood facing Tasuku with a Citron hiding behind in the middle of the courtyard. The others were sitting on the benches listening to you three.
You kicked the floor “What do you mean we can’t go?!” you pointed to yourself and Citron “You promised us!”
“I’m not repeating myself. Work piled up”
“But…!”
The green-haired designer of Mankai raised his eyebrows “Who’s that?”
“Are they doing a skit?”
“Looks like it”
Tenma crossed his arms, watching your movements… you were actually pretty good.
“...Is it me or she looks like director?”
                                                   …………………….
“That wasn’t half bad” Tasuku smiled when you all finished.
“I too did enjoy it in the performance of us siblings against a strict father!”
“You are even better than I remembered, Y/N!” you couldn’t help but chuckle when you saw your sister’s happy face. Opening your mouth to call her out, applause followed behind you.
“That was so amazing!!”
When did all those people come from?! You turned to see more actors watching you from the lounge. You glanced at your sister and she smiled “I guess we could take a break and have lunch together, you all deserve it!”
You nodded, entering inside to introduce yourself to the rest of them. You couldn’t wait to see what else was to find out about Mankai.
EXTRA:
“So you two are sister...?”
“Yup!”
“Never would have guessed it, acting-wise”
“Same! Your acting skills were EPIC! Do you have instablam?”
“Sister-in-law... need to get her blessing- muhpm!”
“Masumi, don’t!” both Sakuma and Tsuzuru shut him up covering his mouth before you heard anything. You narrowed your eyes, letting it be.
“....anyway, I saw there’s curry? I’m so excited!” you mentioned as you all entered inside.
Izumi gasped beaming as she grabbed your arm “Oh, you just wait to try it, Y/N! I found these spices the other day that…!
You two chatted heatedly about new recipes you both had created as the actors looked at each other with entertained expressions. Maybe you two didn’t share acting genes… but it looked like the curry obsession really ran in your family’s blood.
helloo! i'd like to request something for the prompt game please :D kasamatsu + band!au + strangers to lovers + dialogue number 14 if that's okay? thanks, sam! and welcome back~
ofc!!! i tried to keep it shorter but im a bit rusty w my kasamatsu hehe hope u enjoy! wc: 2.3k
Kasamatsu admits that balancing his band and college work isn’t exactly an easy task. Between late evenings spent at gigs and all nights at the library, he is on the brink of his sanity, standing right at the tipping point. He yawns as he enters his nine am mandatory calculus class, another mistake made in his overconfidence that he would somehow be able to get his shit together.
You, on the other hand, are a closeted fan of his band, sitting three rows behind him in class. Every Tuesday and Thursday, you watch him drag his feet in and his hand lifting to his mouth in a yawn. Quickly, you duck behind your book as if Kasamatsu would ever give you the time of day. The brunette is well-known on campus with his successful group and good looks, not to mention he also dabbles a little in basketball while also maintaining a decent grade point average across all his classes. Triple threat, they call him.
When you first came into class and saw him there, shocked is an understatement. You’ve been following his band his high school from across the country. To see him in the flesh, so real and so human with his tired eyes, it almost feels like a dream. One you hope nobody would ever pinch you awake from. Thus, you made it your goal to be there before him every morning, which is a feat in itself. Kasamatsu may be grinding through the night and falling asleep in lectures, but he’ll be damned if he shows up late to class.
Throughout several weeks, you’ve seen girls come up to him left and right, shot down almost immediately by his intention to focus on the professor’s words. He lets them down easy and makes it clear that he pays thousands of dollars to study, not play IRL Tinder. This man gets sexier everyday.
You take your time packing your things when class is over, mainly because you’re too distracted watching Kasamatsu do the same. He is blind, or chooses to ignore, the whispers and shy glances thrown his way. Perhaps this is why you haven’t approached him yourself. You’re just one of his many admirers, a stroke in the massive painting of his life. Sighing, you pick up your pitiful self and make your way to the dining hall where you’re supposed to meet your friend for breakfast.
When the two of you settle on a table, you begin your weekly rambling about how beautiful Kasamatsu looks in the morning. Moriyama, being the good friend that he is, nods and listens intently.
Moriyama is an intriguing character. The two of you met because he had tried a line on you. In your perpetual state of flustered embarrassment, you had stupidly confessed to him: “Sorry, my heart belongs to Kasamatsu Yukio.”
In another twist of fate, he revealed that he had actually gone to high school with the guy and knew him pretty well.
“You know I can introduce you to him, right? No need for all this pining and drooling from three feet away.”
“It’s not the same,” you argue, “he’s practically a living legend on campus. I’m too intimidated to even breathe in the same air as him.” Your obsession has perhaps taken you too far, but if you expect to continue being his fan, the last thing you want is to scare him away.
“You’re so overdramatic,” Moriyama rolls his eyes. Coming from him, this sentence means a lot.
“What? It’s not my fault Kasamatsu’s so hot. He could bang me so hard backstage then pretend I don’t exist and I would still pay to watch his next show,” you groan, spooning yogurt into your mouth.
In that moment, several things happen. Moriyama’s eyes widen and fly behind you. Footsteps sounding at that same spot suddenly cease completely. You, realizing what possibly just happened, feel the heat flare up your cheeks.
Kasamatsu, in his sleep deprived state and probably completely delirious, had stopped in his tracks. His head whipped around to the source of the comment, finding Moriyama sitting with someone who looks distinctly familiar, but he can’t quite put his finger on it.
“Kasamatsu—”
Before Moriyama can even finish his sentence, Kasamatsu is already blurting out. “Okay, maybe I’m crazy but did I just hear you say that out loud?”
You want to crawl into your hole six feet underground and never see the light of day again. Ducking your head, you don’t even want to chance a glance up. The utter mortification is chewing away at your bones and you wish you could just evaporate into thin air.
Moriyama quickly interjects with a quick laugh, “Hear what? Also how have you been, man? I haven’t seen you in forever. Come join us for breakfast.”
Kasamatsu’s brows pucker. Maybe he really is going insane. And horny. Which is a very bad combination. Nevertheless, he slides into the empty seat next to Moriyama. He stares at you for a few seconds, squinting, before snapping his fingers. “Oh, I remember now. You’re in my calculus class.”
He knows you? “How do you know me?” you squeak, cursing your fangirl self for losing your voice. You never speak up in class, always choosing to come up to your professor for questions at the end of lecture. You’re quiet and tucked away behind him, so you never expected him to recognize you.
The smile he sends you is blinding. Even with shadows under his eyes, he still looks gorgeous. “You’re always first to arrive and last to leave. Figured you’re a hard worker in class and probably acing it.”
Your mouth dries. Kasamatsu noticed you. He actually noticed you. “Oh, um, I’m okay. I’m okay in class, I mean.”
“The question you should be asking is her name, Kasamatsu,” Moriyama scolds, smacking his back.
Kasamatsu pinks sheepishly. “Sorry, yeah. I’m Kasamatsu Yukio, by the way.”
Idiotically, you blurt out “I know” before your name. When you finally introduce yourself, you also clarify, “I’m a huge fan of Blue Devils. I mean, I’ve been following you guys since like high school. Absolutely love your music.”
The man actually reddens even further, but still he beams proudly. “Thank you! That’s crazy. Have you been to our shows?”
Almost all of them. “A couple, yeah.”
“We have one tonight in an actual venue. Are you coming?”
“Ah, it was sold out before I could get a ticket, actually.”
Kasamatsu blinks, “Oh, you’re more than welcome to come. I can get you a pass. Both of you—if Moriyama’s interested.”
“That would be amazing!” You grin, “Is there anything I can get you in return? I don’t want to just accept a gift from you for free.”
“Well, if you are good at calc, I wouldn’t mind some extra tutoring,” he suggests with a teasing grin.
Moriyama rolls his eyes, “Just ask her out instead of using tutoring as an excuse.” The two of you sputter, face colored a dark shade of red. You’ll kick his ass when you get the chance.
That one mistake turned out to be the greatest opportunity of your life. In addition to attending his show that night and meeting all of his bandmates, each one more good looking up close than then other, you manage to have weekly study sessions (you’re holding off on calling it dates) with Kasamatsu. The two of you take turns booking rooms at the library to cram, which mainly consists of you reexplaining concepts to the man. Although he isn’t a bad student, he’s also still struggling a bit to keep up.
“Hey” is what you hear before you feel a warm surface press against your cheek. You look up to find Kasamatsu with a steaming cup in hand. Gratefully accepting it, you catch a whiff of freshly brewed tea. You take a sip and smile. Black tea, no sugar. “Just the way I like it.”
“Noticed you never add anything to your tea,” Kasamatsu says almost proudly.
You raise the cup to him in thanks. Both of you go through your usual routine—you focusing on reviewing material for next week while Kasamatsu pores over his notes from this week, occasionally poking you to ask questions.
Honestly, a big part of you still wonders if this is all a dream. This guy you’ve been crushing on for years is sitting in the flesh right across from you. You peek at him from time to time, watching the way he frowns at his book. His blue, almost grey, eyes shine underneath the flickering lights. Even the way his lips curl unhappily is cute.
When he catches you staring, you quickly drop your gaze back to your laptop, missing the way he smiles quietly.
“Will you come to our show this weekend?” He asks as the two of you pack up.
“Ah, I have a shift at my part-time job.”
He looks surprised, “That late?”
You shrug, “Food never sleeps, I guess. It’s at the burger diner by campus.”
“Oh, are you guys open late?”
“Close at one.”
He nods, “Maybe I’ll see you there after then. The guys usually get really hungry after a gig so we can drive some business your way. I’ll make sure they tip well too.”
Your heart warms at the thought. It’s a thoughtful gesture but you’re even more thrilled at the prospect of seeing him. “Sounds good.”
True to his word, Kasamatsu brings the guys to your workplace at midnight after their show ended. They order quite a spread, practically everything on the menu. Kasamatsu goes as far as to help you carry orders to their table. You shoot him an appreciative smile.
Over the time your friendship has bloomed, Kasamatsu has been nothing but a gentleman. He walks you home to your dorm if you’re studying late into the night. He meets you in class with a muffin or a cookie from his early Starbucks runs. Surprisingly, he begins placing himself next to you each session. “This is better anyway,” he mutters. “Two birds, one stone.”
His vague words had you tilting your head in question.
“I don’t have random people coming up to me to sit with me and, well, I get to enjoy your company.” It’s a nice thought—him enjoying your company, that is. He had blushed a little when he realized what you said, but chose to direct his attention to the slides pulled up before him, missing the way you hide your smile behind your sleeve.
Now, you hear the rowdy boys chattering on as they devour their meal as if it’s their last. They speak through mouthfuls of burgers and fries, but you find the sight endearing, mainly because you’ve never seen Kasamatsu so relaxed. It’s quite refreshing really. Your attention is piqued when you hear one of them ask: “So doing it tonight huh?”
Kasamatsu retorts with a “shut the fuck up” and flings a fry his way. The way the other guy wiggles his brows suggestively has you freezing. What if he was meeting up with someone tonight? What if he was going to do the deed?
Somewhere in the distance, you hear the faint cracking of your heart. Of course, Kasamatsu is popular. It’s no surprise he’s got his nights covered as well. You sigh dejectedly, feeling the hope inside you crumble into dust. The rest of your shift goes by rather uneventfully, but you try to avoid going to their table too much, lest you hear more details about Kasamatsu’s planned tryst. The man himself steals glances your way, wondering if you’ll be checking on them anytime soon.
“Your check,” you smile as you set the bill on the table, “I got the owner to give you a discount since you guys ordered a good amount.”
All of their eyes seem to sparkle as they thank you in unison, their synchrony almost puzzling. As you move to pick up the bill and change, Kasamatsu catches your hand before you move away. “What time does your shift end?”
“Half an hour. Why?”
The other guys are already packing up their things and giving you little waves as they exit the restaurant, leaving the two of you alone. “I’ll walk you home, it’s late,” he murmurs, fingers still wrapped around your wrist.
“Oh, you don’t have to! I usually take the bus back anyway so it’s no big deal.” You want to confirm whether he had plans that night anyway. You’d hate to be in the way of that.
He shakes his head, “I insist. Also, um, are you doing anything tomorrow?”
“Catching up on studying most likely.”
“Oh,” he pauses, “if you have time tomorrow night, do you want to catch a movie with me? Maybe dinner after?”
You blink at him in surprise. Now that you’re looking at him properly, you notice that his cheeks are several shades darker than the red neon glow of the diner sign. He’s shifting on his feet and his other hand finds purchase on the strap of his bag, fidgeting with the material. “Um, like a date?”
“Y-yeah,” he stutters slightly, his throat moving as he swallows. “Sorry, I probably should’ve made that clear,” he coughs, “b-but if you don’t want it to be the we can also go as friends.” Perhaps you’ve tortured the boy long enough but you can’t help but relish in his awkward chuckle as his hand lifts to rub the back of his neck nervously.
Biting back a huge grin, you nod. “It’s a date.”
Kasamatsu’s eyes light up and a pleased grin spread across his face. “It’s a date.”
The hollering outside the building has the two of you whipping to face the window where his bandmates have their faces pressed up against the surface, laughing and smiling to congratulate and embarrass their friend. Kasamatsu flushes, “I’ll see you later to pick you up.”
You nod but he’s already out the door, leaping to kick his friends away. “You stupid idiots!”
Laughing, you watch as the group makes kissy faces at Kasamatsu all the while the man fruitlessly attempts to shut them up. He really is cute.
PRxPRince Roundtable talk (March 2019 issue of Kageki)
Participants: Machida Nanoka (Director), Towaki Sea, Jun Hana
Machida: This is Towaki-san’s first lead show, and also my own first production...I feel a huge amount of pressure.
Towaki: No way!
Machida: More than anything else, Hitoko-chan (Towaki) is so beautiful, so I thought it would be good to make a show with a pretty boy in it. That might be an easy pick (laughs), but since it’s your first lead, I thought that rather than a dark and twisted character, a virtuous prince might be better. Although once you go a little bit deeper, he’s actually a rather odd person… (laughs)
Towaki: For sure (laughs).
Machida: In the end, it’s a coming-of-age story as he becomes a cool prince, so I feel like that’s just perfect for you. Also, personally, when I think about going through a month of rehearsals, I feel like a cheerful story is better (laughs).
Towaki, Jun: (laugh)
Machida: The main concept is that the prince of the tiny nation of Pecchieno is trying his best to overcome the nation’s financial struggles, as well as trying to find a bride. Hitoko-chan’s character, Prince Victor, is a scientific researcher, so he’s a very intelligent person. The hostile neighboring country, Grandi, has a very advanced culture, with increasing amounts of industrial waste and air pollution. On the other hand, Pecchieno is covered with forests, and it is a country that values nature and preserves its old buildings as they are. The prince is concerned about the waste and everything caused by Grandi, so he is conducting research hoping to find something he can do about it.
Towaki: So does that mean there’s a villain around?
Machida: Indeed there is. A woman is the villain.
Towaki, Jun: Oh~!!
Machida: There are three princes, and they all have their own love stories. Hitoko-chan and the heroine played by Jun-chan are totally in love from the start of the story. I want you to be a super sappy couple, I think (laughs).
Towaki, Jun: Oh! (laughs)
Machida: Although everyone appearing in the show is very earnest, I hope that we can use that for the comedy and make the audience giggle. However, I think that in certain ways comedy can be more difficult than tragedy.
Towaki: That’s true.
Machida: I hope that all of us, me included, can keep learning and enjoy ourselves during this rehearsal.
Towaki, Jun: Yes!
Towaki: When I first heard I would be performing a lead role, I was so happy, but when I saw the title had ‘Prince’ in it, I was a little unsure… I’m not that kind of character at all.
Jun: What!? But it’s perfect!
Towaki: No, no! I thought ‘can I really do that?’ And then I heard it would be a happily-ever-after comedy...that was a shock.
Machida: And now I’m thinking again that I ended up picking something really challenging (laughs).
Towaki: But I’m happy to have a lighthearted show for my first lead, and I think that will make it easier for everyone to work hard together and keep looking ahead.
Machida: Victor is a multi-faceted person, and there are a lot of aspects that will depend on Hitoko-chan’s performance. How cool you can make the scenes where he’s cool; whether you can have the charisma that makes girls swoon (laughs). There are some scenes where you’re aggressively pursuing the heroine, you see.
Jun: Whoa~.
Machida: I want the audience to think “That’s totally me!” when they see you, Jun-chan.
Towaki, Jun: Yes…!
Machida: I want the audience to enjoy everything about you, like the parts where you’re a really cool otokoyaku who can make people unthinkingly go “Squee!”, and also really cute parts, so that’s my plan.
Towaki: It seems like you’ve set a high hurdle! I’ll do my best.
Machida: Jun’s character, Elle, is one of the researchers in the prince’s laboratory, and I wanted to make her the picture of a geeky ‘science girl’. She’s like one flower blooming in the midst of a lot of men, and while all the boys are wild about her, she doesn’t pay attention to them, that kind of thing. She’s totally devoted to the prince and her research.
Towaki: (to Jun) What a great girl!
Jun: (laughs)
Machida: She’s also a very strong-willed person.
Jun: While I was startled when I first heard about this show, it’s with Machida-sensei, who was an assistant director for my debut performance, Die Fledermaus.
Machida: Oh, that’s right.
Jun: I was first paired up with Hitoko-san (Towaki) 2 years ago in the tango scene from New Wave!, so I feel really comfortable with her, you could say… I want to support her properly! The role of a researcher is so different from anything about me, though.
Machida: I’m also from a literary field, so I talked to scientist friends of mine while I was writing. There’s a song for all the chemical element symbols, actually (laughs).
Towaki, Jun: Wow~!
Jun: In junior performances I’ve had mature roles, and in the main cast for Phantom I put my all into playing a child, so this is my first time playing such a ‘life-size’, cheerful character. I’m going to keep learning and doing my best!
Towaki: This is the first time I’ve seen Miss Jun Hana being so serious. It’s an honor to meet you (laughs).
Jun: (laughs)
Towaki: Kano (Jun) and I have done more things together offstage. If I had to describe her...she’s not like this!
Jun: (bursts out laughing)
Towaki: Starting now she’s going to start getting more and more undone (laughs). On stage she’s so mature, but she’s actually a little monster.
Jun: You say I’m a monster… (laughs)
Machida: A monster!? (laughs)
Towaki: But I think her smile is wonderful.
Jun: (blushes and laughs) Hitoko-san is really kind, and also thinks about artistic things from so many different angles, so I’m really happy to be able to be with her in this. This is my first time doing so much acting together with her.
Towaki: That’s right. I’m looking forward to it.
Jun: Yes! The poster photoshoot was so fun.
Towaki: We were laughing too much, so it was really hard to get a normal looking smile.
Machida: Mitsue-sensei (Wakao Risa) also got very into the spirit of things. I hope this ends up being a cute show that really suits you both. The music for this show is written by Yoshizaki Kenji, and the choreography is by Wakao Risa and Uejima Yukio.
Towaki: I worked with Choreographer Uejima before when I was in Footloose, and it was such cool choreo!
Machida: I’m really looking forward to it, too. The music for the finale is by Hasegawa Masahiro.
Towaki: So it has a finale!
Jun: I’m so happy!
Machida: I wanted to totally change the atmosphere from the play, and since you are both very skilled at dancing, I wanted to have you get a chance to dance properly.
Towaki, Jun: Wow~!
Towaki: Um, this prince, does he have maids and things?
Machida: He doesn’t. He’s really poor (laughs).
Towaki: So he can’t hire anybody~! (laughs) But he has a family, right?
Machida: Of course. Oh, there’s his old nurse. Do you want a maid? (laughs)
Towaki: No, but since it’s a comedy one of the really big parts of that is creating the atmosphere with the rest of the cast, so I’m just looking forward to those acting scenes with everyone around me.
Machida: There’s your fellow researchers, of course.
Towaki: That sounds so fun! There are so many wonderful senior actresses and reliable junior actresses in this production, so I hope it will be a really fun and cheerful situation in the rehearsal room. While I have the lead role, I don’t want to get too absorbed in that, and keep working on the show through joys and struggles.
Jun: I’m also looking forward to the show even more now that I’ve had the chance to hear more about it today. I’m going to work on training my own skills and do my best so that I can work with Director Machida, Hitoko-san, and everyone else to create this show!
Machida: In any case, this is my first time creating a show…
Towaki, Jun: (applause)
Machida: Thank you so much. Although I’m a clueless young novice, I at least want to make a show that lets Hitoko-chan shine and the audience enjoy themselves. As it’s a comedy, the effect of the lines can change depending on how you say it, so let’s all work on figuring things out until we know the best way of saying things. Let’s all do our best!
Towaki, Jun: Yes!
7 or 28 for Kasamatsu please!? Good thing I saw your post before askbox closed! Uwaaah
AHH!!! I started laughing when I read the prompts.. I’m gonna combine them together because they BOTH work for Kasa and I couldn’t pick JUST one! Hope you like!
______________
When Kasamatsu arrives home from a long day of exams, the first thing he doesn’t expect is to see his entire apartment filled to the brim with people... When you first came to him, asking to throw a holiday party, he assumed it would be just close friends, perhaps some of the family coming in...
He did NOT expect all the students from their CLASS to be in his place...
He growls, squeezing past several groups of people, not recognizing many of them. He blushes when a couple crash into him, full blown in a make-out session, and he shakes his head, feeling the headache start to form...
Where the hell are you??
“Ah!! Yukio!”
He blinks, looking over at Moriyama, waving at him like a god damn moron... His cheeks were flush, and just one look told Kasamatsu everything...
The dummy was drunk.
“Oi!! Where’s _____?”
He was about to answer, but Kasamatsu is startled as a body jumps on him, arms wrapped around his neck as you nuzzle his cheek. A santa hat rests on your head and you press soft kisses on his skin.
“Welcome home, Yu-ki-o!!”
His cheeks burn, because he’s never seen you like this.. All clingy and affectionate...  It’s hard for him to keep a straight face when Moriyama is standing there, smiling like a fool, and he carefully places his hands on your legs, holding you to his back.
He finds the strength to move to the kitchen, noting everyone has flocked to the living room... He adjusts you in his arms, sitting in the chair with you straddling his lap, and after the cold air blows against his skin, he finds it in himself to speak...
“______.... You invited over HOW many people to the holiday party?!”
He watches you pout, eyebrows furrowing as you gently pinch his cheeks...
“Y...Yukio!!! It... It’s a... p...Party!! W...Why can’t.... We...We celebrate??”
His eyebrow raises at your stutters, and it then dawns on him... You’re slightly intoxicated as well.. He swallows the lump in his throat, quickly adjusting your sweater, hanging loosely off your shoulders...
You’re so gorgeous, even when under the influence...
He jumps when your lips touch his skin, and he has to bite back a low moan as you tease his neck.. One hand clutches the chair, the other resting on your back as you push up against him, giggling in his ear...
“W-Where’s all of your holiday spirit, you S-Scrooge?”
His eyebrow twitches at the nickname, but before he can retort, your mouth is on his, a bit sloppy and ALMOST missing... Shit... How many drinks have you had?? He does enjoy the kiss, but has to restrain himself, gently pushing you back so he can breathe.
“_____-______....”
A hat is placed on his head, and he looks at you, giggles leaving your lips... Well... Shit... He knows better than to let you drink alone... But... As you continue to hug him and give him loving affection, he finds himself relaxing, and focusing on the scenery in front of him...
He can let it go for now.... Christmas is only once a year...
“We’re not having one for New Years... Just so you know...”
He watches the way you pout, eyes shining with tears.. But before you can complain and cry, he’s there to silence it, causing YOUR cheeks to burn from his affection.. And a WEE bit of alcohol.
For the Ask Game: Son Goku
Give me a character and I will answer:
Why I like them: Goku is the main character in Dragon Ball Z, an anime that I have enjoyed tremendously for over 20 years.  He kicks aliens really fast and hard, and he eats wolves and bugs and clouds, and he’s very cool and good.
That may sound kind of basic, maybe even borderline sarcastic, but I’m not sure how else to put it.    I’ve gotten so used to liking Goku that it’s hard to articulate why.
Like, okay, you know that one episode during the Cell Games, where he’s gonna pick apples from his favorite apple tree?   And he does the special karate punch that makes the apples all fall out of the branches without really hurting the tree?    In the dub, he says to the tree “Ready for one more round, old timer?”  Or something like that, and then after he hits it, he’s like “See?  That didn’t hurt a bit.”  I’m not getting the lines right, but you get the idea.    That’s some choice Goku right there.    He’s friends with that tree!
Tumblr media
Why I don’t: hE gAvE mOrO a SeNzU bEaN-- ha ha just kidding, but can you imagine not liking Goku?   Because of something he did in some horseshit fancomic that doesn’t even count?
Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of guff from people about Goku showing mercy to his enemies.   This is humorous to me, because I’d bet you dollars to donuts that they’re fans of Vegeta and/or Piccolo, and that only happened because Goku decided to have mercy on their stank asses.    “Well I like Vegeta because he kills people.”  He only gets to do that because Goku allowed him to live.    Best Green Dad doesn’t happen without Goku, period, end of sentence, new paragraph.
I’m not a lore expert like that guy on Twitter who only watched DBZ Abridged, but here’s some cool trivia for you: Cell could have self-destructed and destroyed the Earth at any time.    It literally does not matter that Goku gave Cell a senzu bean before Gohan fought him, because Cell would have done the same thing no matter who beat him or how.     If Gohan had wiped him out quickly, that nucleus would have survived and regenerated, and he would come back even stronger.   The senzu bean just delayed the inevitable outcome, and not even by that much, because Cell wasn’t that worn out in the first place.   The whole thing with the senzu bean was Goku playing headgames with Cell and no one seems to understand that but me.
But what about Moro, you ask?   Hey, come here.
Closer.    No, closer.
Listen to me.   I love you, okay?    But the Dragon Ball Super manga isn’t canon.   Hating Goku over something he did in Super is like hating Superman for something he did in a Mad Magazine bit.
“Blargle blargle he doesn’t kiss his wife bad father, tournament of power--” I super mega don’t care about any of these ice cold takes.      Every day I go on YouTube and it recommends me the dirt worst Star Wars commentary videos.   “Maybe the SITH were actually the GOOD GUYS and the JEDI were the BAD GUYS!  Huh?  Did I just BLOW your MIND?   Be sure to like and subscribe!”  Every dope with a keyboard seems to think they can flip the script and pretend they’re some kind of genius.    “Thanos was right!”  “Magneto was right!” “Dr. Doom was right!” “Antifa are the real fascists when you stop and think about it!”  “Masks and vaccines are bullshit, COVID-19 is a hoax, but if it were real, maybe it’s the good guy in this situation!”
I didn’t mean to go off on a rant here, but the whole point of Goku is that he’s a pretty cool guy, and the hero of his particular adventure, and you see all these people trying to outsmart that somehow, like it’s not the premise of the character.   It’s like all those fan theories about how every show is really one character having a coma dream in the hospital.    It’s fake-deep, like when Will Smith’s kid goes on the internet and says something like “Water isn’t wet when you stop and think about it.”
I’m not saying everyone has to like Goku, but I don’t get the hate-boner people have for him.    I don’t like cole slaw, it’s soggy and insipid and I don’t understand it, but I don’t go around trying to convince people it’s not made out of cabbage.
Anyway, Goku’s awesome.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): It’s hard to choose, but DBZ #248 always fucks me up.   I looked it up in my liveblog archive to get the episode number right, and the first line of that post: This one always fucks me up.
Moving on.
Favorite season/movie: In Dragon Ball terms, I guess this refers to the sagas, so I’ll go with Cell Games.    Goku goes into the battle with this flawed, touch-and-go plan, and it works.    He defeats perfection with imperfection, and it’s glorious.
Favorite line: “What I represent can never be destroyed,” is one of the most metal lines ever uttered, anywhere.   It’s a threat and a moral lesson all in one.
Favorite outfit: Two answers for this one.
Tumblr media
Shu’s outfit in the Fortuneteller Baba Saga was awesome.    I used to wear yellow T-shirts to work, so when I put on my blue labcoat I would see myself in the restroom mirror and think: yeaaaaahhhhhh.
Tumblr media
I’m also big into Goku’s look during the Cell Games, classic orange outfit, blue shirt, with the Super Saiyan form ready to go.    That may sound obvious, since this is kind of Goku’s default look, but it takes a while to get all of this together.  For me, it was a big deal to see Goku in action as a Super Saiyan in his standard fighting gear, because the whole time he was SSJ on Namek his shirt was ruined.   Against Gero and 19 he was sick, but starting with the Cell Games, we get him fresh as a daisy, and it’s worth the wait.   Harder to stealth cosplay, though.
OTP: Gochi.   Come on.    I don’t even care that much about ships, but they’re adorable on the show, and the internet backlash against Gochi only intensifies my defiance.
Brotp: I wrote a fanfic with Goku and Yamcha just joyriding in the desert, and that seemed pretty awesome, so maybe we need more of that.
I dunno, maybe I’m giving this to Bulma.   They don’t get a ton of screen time together after a certain point in the show, but the bond between them is this really sublime thing.    In the same fanfic, I wrote Bulma and Goku interacting, and that was just a pleasure to write.
Head Canon: I think Goku being an alien orphan matters more to him than he lets on.   Early on, he knew he had parents but he didn’t know why they left him in the woods.   Pretty much every interaction he has with the outside world is about him being different.   Then he finds out he’s a Saiyan and all the Saiyans hate him for being weak and sentimental and so on.   He can kick all their asses, but that doesn’t make him any less of an outcast.
I think becoming a Super Saiyan is a bigger deal to him than he lets on.   That moment kind of serves as this unspoken proof that there’s more to being a “true” Saiyan than Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz ever knew.   That maybe, if his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great granny could see him, she might approve.
Tumblr media
Unpopular opinion:
Tumblr media
Yukio Ebisawa is underrated.
A wish: I always wanted to see Goku style on Broly ‘93.   It seemed unfair to me that they kept bringing Broly back, and even teased a rematch with Goku in Movie 11, only to not deliver on it.    I wanted Goku to turn Super Saiyan 2 and Broly’d be all “oh noes!” and Goku would look at him and be all “Yeah.   What now, bitch?    That green shit won’t cut it anymore.”
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I think my darkest fear about the Dragon Ball franchise is that it’ll get bastardized like Superman, where some giant multimedia corporation owns it, has no idea how to tell new stories with it, and refuses to let it lapse into the public domain.   I have no idea how public domain works in Japan, but “Disney Toei’s Dragon Ball KH” doesn’t sit well with me.    Hopefully I’ll be dead by the time that happens.
Like, Rise of Skywalker wasn’t that bad.   But it did lead me to worry that they really have no idea how to make Star Wars work.    They got it right enough, but the part where Rose is going to stay and guard the base or whatever, it just made me realize they’re only guessing, and they just happen to guess right often enough to succeed.   And it’s not like you can jump over to some other studio and see how they handle a Star Wars movie.
5 words to best describe them: Ain’t nothin’ to fuck with.
My nickname for them: Geeko.    Ha ha, just kidding.
