Please Don't Cry | Cormac & Aine

Cormac had changed his outfit no less than six times since breakfast.

There was no ball, no great banquet, nor even a dinner guest to warrant such fuss over ones clothes. Once, Aine might have thought that Cormac had some official business this evening and wanted to make the right impression, but she had since learned the right of this behavior. When her siblings had first moved to Lorcan, she had once asked Finn if that was the reason for Cormac's indecision regarding his clothes, but her younger brother had only laughed. No, that often meant that he was expecting a visit from Cassimir Malconaire.

Aine had always done her best to treat the new lord of Malconaire with both kindness and understanding, but he had made this increasingly difficult between both his treatment of her husband's cousins and now with his obvious hold on her own brother, it had been harder to make excuses for his behaviors. While she knew that Cormac would not take well to the idea, Aine hoped that one day she could persuade her brother to end the friendship.

Today, it seemed, her brother was destined to be disappointed, for two hours after lunch, a message was given to Aine that Cassimir Malconaire would not be coming, after all. She suspected that the servant had purposefully given the message to anyone but Cormac himself, and gladly relinquished the responsibility of relaying the contents of the message over to her.

Aine found her brother posted at the window in one of the sitting rooms that had been set aside for the family. Finn and Fiona were seated in the corner together, bickering over the rules of their card game.

"Cormac?" She said softly, placing a hand upon her brother's arm, "I'm afraid Lord Malconaire won't be coming this afternoon. It seems he has some important business that demands his attentions -- "

Aine had seen her brother disappointed a thousand times over, but the look on his face when she delivered this news would have broken her heart to see -- had it not been over a missed opportunity to spend time with Cassimir. "Please don't be sad, dearest. Perhaps it is for the best? We might all spend the afternoon together ... ?" She turned towards the twins at this last part, but the two of them had abandoned their game and fled the room before she could finish the thought.

" ... or better yet, we might spend the afternoon together, just the two of us?"

There are so many deleted comments on that freaking post about “goys,” and damn it makes me wince actually writing that word. All I can see in my messages is you started off “It’s ok…” Honey. I don’t want to cause problems between you and your family. But it’s so *not* ok, in fact it’s outrageous your own family refers to you that way. Are you adopted? Did you marry in? I’m sure you have an actual given name. And that’s what you should be called. It’s disgraceful and so beyond low class to do that to you. Jews have had every unspeakable thing done to them and said to them over thousands of years. For a Jew to turn around and do to you what they’re doing is a sin. I have no idea how you became related to these people, and while you don’t see it, it’s so *not* ok. Me? I’d speak up for sure. They are in fact having sick fun at your expense, as I said. I’m sorry. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. Woah woah woah. First, I really appreciate the sentiment. I really do. It makes me smile realizing there are actually nice people on this app.

My family is weird. I am 100% related to them, and I love them and they love me. They call me that because I converted, right? It's now just a nickname.

Also, I may have exaggerated a little, they still use my real name, it's my siblings that call me that most of the time, and my parents accidentally every so often. It's like a sibling rivalry. I call them slow(bc I run half marathons) or stupid(one dropped out of school) and they call me goy.

Yes, this might seem like a screwed up family to you, but we know where to draw the line. I'm not really the type of person who gets mad when someone insults me. It's just words, ya know? I prefer to let physical stuff hurt me rather than mental stuff.
