Dear diary, what a day. I swear I've never been so depressed, miserable, and lonely in my entire life. It's like I know there's got to be somebody out there somewhere... just one person in this huge, horrible, unhappy universe who can hold me in their arms and tell me everything is going to be okay. And how long do I have to wait before that person shows up. I feel like I'm sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand... watching everyone around me die a slow, agonizing, death. It's like we all know way down in our souls that our generation is going to witness the end of everything. You can see it in our eyes. It's in mine, look. I'm doomed. I'm only 18 years-old and I'm totally doomed.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

Deeply deeply frustrating and isolating to want to convert to Judaism for years now, to spend time trying to study, to reach out to Jewish friends and talk about Judaism, all the while not knowing if I ever will be able to because I don't know if I'll be ostracized for opposing Israel. It's like trying to navigate a minefield while blindfolded, not knowing whether I'll be safe with X person or Y organization.

And then I see some zionist fuck act like they're some big countercultural movement, like they're the big bad radical Jews. As if Zionism isn't a dominant ideology in so many Jewish spaces, as if Anti-Zionist Jews don't get regularly ostracized and smeared as terrorists or self hating Jews for y'know, sticking to actual Jewish principles of not fucking doing atrocities.

I don't talk about my personal religious beliefs much and this is one reason, it is so deeply frustrating to want to come to religion you believe deeply in, to share in with those friends who brought you here, hell just to study as that's a principle reason why I want to convert in the first place, only to find you might be hated for holding those same beliefs.

I fucking grew up with Israeli immigrants as friends, it was them who led me to my beliefs, and to know I might not be safe among those same friends is.. it's heartbreaking.

Of course some of those friends did and do also oppose Israel and I can credit my antizionism to them, which does give me a glimmer of hope, it's why I haven't given up on seeking community in Judaism.

But that hope is tempered with that heartbreak, it's why I am so angry and so passionate beyond simply having compassion for oppressed peoples. Because I see the beliefs I want to rejoice in, be twisted for such cruelty.
