It's so funny as a horror fan to hear nonfans react to disturbing movies and media
I once looked up a book I read and most of the results were reviews or comments that was like "THIS BOOK IS SO SO DISTURBING. I CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP. I WILL NEVER KNOW PEACE, MY INNOCENCE HAS BEEN LOST. I MUST CONFESS EVERY SIN I HAVE EVER COMMITTED TO FEEL EVEN THE TINIEST BIT BETTER."
And I'm just like haha yeah it was wild
Or stuff like "The Human Centipede will haunt every second of every dream I will ever have"
what do you mean!! that shit was hilarious!!
#if you're wondering the book was#Playground by aron beauregard#to be fair the beginning scene was disturbing--not because of gore or death--but once you get through it#and if you don't mind child death or graphic depictions of agonizing and death than it's a fantastic read and I really enjoyed it#the human centipede#horror#horror fans#horror fan#gore#movies#notdf

There is always that slight disappointment when someone you enjoy speaking to reveals a part of themselves that makes you go "Oh. I can't express certain interests around you safely. Good to know."
I don't think it would have bothered me if they just referred to that one thing as something that they didn't enjoy, or that it just bothered them very much. It's completely fair, their are entitled to feel uncomfortable about it. It's an horror book after all. But to go as far as calling the author a "Predator that just wants to portrait his fantasies. A CP creator. " felt...i don't know. Worrying? Wrong? It was like hearing someone call the author of Lolita a predator. Now the two books are very different, but they both have a goal: they are meant to make you uncomfortable. They are meant to be disturbing. And that's not everyone's coup of tea, hell is not even my coup of tea!
But still as someone who enjoys disturbing content (to a degree) and even speaking of the content i don't enjoy, i know the difference between fantasy and reality and especially i know that just because someone writes/draw fucked up thing, it is very unlikely that they are in to any of those things in real life. It. Is. A. Fantasy. That's the whole point of fiction.
I can't stand this idea that "Things shouldn't be written about" it's stupid, it's dangerous. It start with the obviously horrific and it ends with lgbt books and Anty Racist Books get taken out of libraries.
For me, is something is just a drawing or Just Words on paper, then i don't want to hear shit. No one is getting hurt. If you don't like it, look away and ignore it. Bye.
The Book i'm referring to Is Playground by Aron Beauregard. If you wish to read it i BEG YOU to look up the triggers because it's very intense
I don't intend to read that book because it's definitely not something that i can digest. But i stand to what i said. As long as it is purely fictional, i truly don't give a flying fuck.

I honeslty rated this a 2.5 but added up for the star raiting stickers on canva lol! I would honeslty warn anyone going into Playground there is for me a lot of uncessary things added, that do not add to the story in the slightes but to make you go What? -The Hell! Though if you like the Splatterpunk genre as a whole and can look past some of its major questionable red flags I think you could find the good within the tainted horors.

Every Parent's Worst Nightmare Comes to Life in Playground by Aron Beauregard
Full Disclaimer: Playground by Aron Beauregard is not for the faint of heart! This book contains graphic content. Reader discretion is advised. I may have been influenced into buying myself a copy of Playground by Aron Beauregard because most BookTokkers said they couldn’t get past page 46 … Oh, how I love a challenge! I mean, how bad could it be? Well, let’s just say that as someone who isn’t…

i cant take adult men who write horror and say their writing "pushed boundaries" or "isnt for the easily offended" seriously. youre not making anything all that new youre just writing gore scenes. i guarantee a 12 year old girl is out there writing more horrific scenes in a my little pony creepypasta.

You know when you think you've seen it all with some REALLY bad takes and then you see someone say that Borrasca is as bad as Playground then you realize no you haven't seen it all
#borrasca#creepypasta#anti playground#anti aron beauregard#like#I get it#borrasca is NOT an easy read#and you definitely need some trigger warnings or do some research on it before you read it#because it is disturbing#and it will fuck you up if you're not in the right headspace for it#but to say it's as bad as the poorly written pointlessly overly gorey edgefest that is playground is absurd and incorrect

another splatterpunk novel that people on tumblr seem to have some...interesting takes on.
to the people saying it was too much, too gory, too graphic, etc., i beg you to do more research on books before picking them up. there is LITERALLY a warning at the beginning of this book. complaining about the gore and dead-dove-esque content of a splatterpunk novel is like complaining that there are cows at a cow farm.
to the people calling the metaphors and descriptions shit, to each their own, but consider some of the wording and descriptions were written to be somewhat satirical, and even ridiculous.
and to everyone calling this meaningless gore, did we read the same novel? because imo playground is a very good example of a splatterpunk novel that also puts work into fleshing out characters, motivations, emotion, etc. it very clearly wasn't meaningless gore. think critically.
i've read two splatterpunk/extreme horror novels in the past week and i've come to the conclusion that tumblr just doesn't like splatterpunk as a concept

Reading “playground” and every chapter so far they have introduced another underdeveloped trope-ey family and I can’t keep track of who is who and who is who’s kid and ANOTHER NEW CHARACTER

oh, and for anyone curious, the specific book is Playground by Aron Beauregard, and I got into it because a friend told me that "most people cannot get past the first 40 pages"
Don't get me wrong, the 40-page mark and the chapter following it is definitely....interesting to say the least, and not at all because of death or gore, which is what I thought going in.
And this isn't to make fun of people that would find that stuff disturbing, cause the book does have detailed scenes of kids violently dying, I mean that's what the whole book is about, but me personally I didn't mind it (but also I personally really enjoy super dark and graphic stuff anyway).
Honestly my biggest problem with the book is when it fed you meanings of scenes instead of just letting you figure that out for yourself like when it called one bully-kid a "puppet of his father" instead of just letting the reader figure that out. But also it's not really meant to be a "think about this" book, it's just there for you to either enjoy the violence or be revolted by it.
And enjoy it, I did.
I've made a post like this before but I still find it hilarious when I see videos called something like "THIS BOOK BROKE ME" or "DO NOT READ THIS, IT IS DISTURBING" about something I've read and enjoyed.

So I listened Aaron Beauregard’s book Playground a couple days ago, absolutely loved it. I decided to listen to The Slob by the same author and I’m really not as into it. In fact I kind of hate it.
What I want in a splatterpunk book is PLOT! I want comedy, drama, gore, and a HAPPY ending! Like yeah this book is just a woman goes into a house, gets assulted a lot, and leaves…great for telling me? I don’t care! I want stuff to happen!! That’s why I liked playground so much, not only was there the drama of the kids situation, but there was also the adults trying to “crack” Rock and make him admit that he essentially hates what he is doing. The part with Rock was actually much more interesting to me than the kids. I know what will happen with the kids, but with rock and the adults there’s more of an internal struggle than external. Although I will say during the “skateboarding” scene I audibly was SCREAMING!!
Again I want a book that will not only make me audibly gasp but make me invested in the characters. I love splatterpunk but I feel like so much of it is just rape and murder with nothing else, I want a STORY to read!! Not just some case file of what happened to someone.
Anyway:
Playground by Aron Baeregard I would give a 10/10
Slob by Aron Beauregard I didn’t actually finish becuase I didn’t like it, but I would give it a 3/10
Ps. also haha if anyone knows good splatterpunk books with a dash of humor maybe u could reccomend me some idk maybe if you want to
