Silly 5am rambles with the radio demon

"Well..I know a way of getting you to sleep" Chirped the radio demon, sporting his signature smile with a smidge of softness to it. Still, You found yourself letting out a huff and turning your back to him, arms crossed over your chest in defiance at his insistence that you sleep.

You felt the fabric of the sofa shift underneath you, followed by the sensation of being lifted. A bit of squirming for a moment, out of reflex before being settled down upon something that wasn't the sofa-Well, more like someone. Hands settled upon your stomach, palm down, fingers oh so lightly drumming and tapping. You tilted your head a little to look up at the smiling face, blinking once or twice in surprise. A brief back and forth of looking at the hands, then back at the face of Alastor, who's eyes were closed, who's chest made a soft humming sound.

A little wiggle, a little twitch of you settling further, head resting almost on the demon's shoulder, just below on the chest. A hand left your stomach, reaching to pluck the pair of glasses you wore off of your face, tucking the legs in carefully before setting them upon a side table.

"There, safe and sound" Remarked the dapper demon, giving your head a gentle pat. A hand remained on your belly, still gently tapping out a slow and soothing rhythm. The gentle touches, the feeling of a body supporting yours..it made you feel weary, feeling your eyelids start to droop.

Word were unfound as you closed your eyes, listening to him hum, feeling the gentle tapping slow to just resting. You fought a yawn and failed, bringing a chuckle out of the demon. You'd frown, pout even, if you had the energy to. You felt your heart slow, your body settle down for snoozing, comforted by the presence of another. It's not long before you fully drift off, the tune the radio demon was humming still lingering in your mind, his gentle touch making you feel safe and without worry.

platonic zonami idea: when they go out drinking together or generally places together on islands and stuff they'll walk with arms linked. this has multiple benefits;

-Zoro dosnt get lost but is lead where he needs to be by someone he actually trusts.

-Nami gets a big 'scary' guard dog that stops rando's from making advances and people from challenging her if a wallet mysteriously disappeares

-same goes for zoro, they beard each other

-they both like physical contact with no underlying motives and are best friends who like hanging out. fight me

Allora: *calling out from the other room* Yes?

Taliesin: I could have sworn I had a bundle of apples stashed away in your kitchen for safe keeping, but I don’t see it anywhere. Have you gone and stolen them all?

Allora: Oh! *rustling noises before the sound of hurried footsteps come closer; Allora’s head popping into the open doorway to the kitchen* They’re all chopped and peeled for you, I put them away in separate containers so you can munch on them whenever you wanted. Sorry! I forgot to tell you.

Taliesin: *watches her rummage around near where his feet were at a new storage cubby he’d glanced over, blinking in confusion* I? You… peeled them for me?

Allora: Well, I mean, I remembered some fun cutting techniques for apples from home and figured you might not mind so much so long as you still got to eat them. Here! *pulls out a hand made container, opening it to reveal fresh apples on top of a little paper charm attached to the base of the container, with all the apples shaped like bunnies*

Taliesin: *stares at them before slowly taking the container in hand, mouth popping open ever so slightly as his eyes grew wide* …

Allora: *smiles up at him but it quickly drops as he continues to just stare seemingly incredulously at the apples, wringing her hands together in front of her chest* Um… uh, but I absolutely should have asked for— for permission first, I’m… I’m sorry. I’ll get you more apples—

Taliesin: *tilts the container slightly towards her, gesturing to the paper charm on the base* What is this? It looks like there’s a ward on it of some kind.

Allora: *closes her mouth shut from being interrupted before slowly beginning to speak once more* …That’s… it’s a ward, yes. I, um… I still don’t really understand how people just keep food fresh as it sits out on its own for days, so, I just… w–well, back home we have things like mini coolers and fridges, freezers— th–things that keep food cold and fresh, so I… experimented. *scratches the back of her scalp, eyes flickering between him and the container*

Taliesin: *glances down to where the other containers were, all hand made, all likely having the same paper charms, knowing that it likely took at least a good day for the apples alone, shaking his head* …I don’t understand.

Allora: Sorry?

Taliesin: Why do this? Any of this?

Allora: *squeezes her hands together before shrugging* I dunno? You said you liked apples a lot. I do too. And I know that… we don’t really get a chance to just be people, with what I’m forced to do here in this world. And neither of us have had a great upbringing… I figured you might not have had the opportunity to get a present like this, so… I wanted to.

Taliesin: And the bunnies?

Allora: You like those too, right? I–I maybe… shouldn’t have made it into that— it’s not to mock you for being vegetarian! Shit, I didn’t even think about that until now…. Sorry…

Taliesin: *takes a bunny apple and looks at it, trying to will himself to get past its cuteness to eat it; tearing up instead at the levels of thoughtfulness from someone who hated his guts when they first met* …

Allora: *sees his tears and feels alarm bells going off in her head* O–oh! Taliesin! Please, you don’t— you don’t have to—!

Taliesin: [voice wracked with tears just barely kept at bay] If you attempt to take these from me, I will be forced to bite you in a way that is not my usual standards of foreplay.

Allora: *blinks, snorting, feeling too many conflicting emotions at once with this interaction* Uh… okay?...

Taliesin: *takes a deep breath and eats the bunny apple, relishing the sweet juices that flooded in his mouth and over his tongue, sending him straight back to his youth when he ate too many apples and got a stomach ache for it* …

Allora: *holding onto her wrist as she waits, unsure if she can just dismiss herself at this point or if he needs some weird emotional support* …

Taliesin: *closes the container with a thick swallow of the apple, clearing his throat, and nodding* …Acceptable.

Allora: You’re crying.

Taliesin: [choked up] That’s besides the point. *clears his throat again, not looking at her* Thank you… for your gift— gifts. I… *clutches onto the container tightly, unsure how to make a joke out of this to levy the air, too emotionally overwhelmed*

Allora: *smiles softly, knowing that chest straining sensation trying to hold everything back felt like and gently touched his arm* Hey. Wanna learn how to cut the apples into bunnies? It’s pretty relaxing.

Taliesin: *sees the out for what it is and shakes his head, “casually” sniffling* Oh, absolutely not. I wouldn’t dare to think to take this skill away from you so I would be made to do this for myself instead. But… I wouldn’t mind watching you do it, in the future.

Allora: *huffs at his attempt at covering up, stepping back as she just let him have it with an eye roll* Sure bud, it’s a date. We’ll go have a picnic and do it. *turns and waves her hand over her shoulder in departure, leaving him be*

Taliesin: *watches her go, blinking, before looking back down at the container— surprised to see small burnished etchings around the edges of the top reading: “Property of Taliesin, only allowed to be opened by Allora for refills. No touch!”* …Hah. That girl…

hey hi !! it would be my pleasure … (and I’ve been spelling it mezalean ??? but i have no idea LOL. there might be a canon spelling but i havent watched joels esmp1 since… probably since it ended. i will have to check sometime)

apologizing in advance because i will probably get very ramble-y!!

ummm. Oh god. How to start. Lets see. WELL. In this silly little au (i guess it has become a bit more than just me doodling designs LOL) in my head they have like this sort of zelink dynamic? obviously without all the zelda lore & stuff, just that kind of … okay forgive me I haven’t brushed up on my zelink lore for a good many years but. Like the princess and her personal knight that doesn’t really talk much sort of thing.

this made more sense in my head. But yeah. They have the vibes of zelink ? At least if i remember zelink right, I have a really bad memory :’) not exactly the same, i do think etho talks to joel (whereas if iirc link never really talks) - especially after getting to know him a bit - but just. they have the Vibes. You know?

I reckon Joel’s definitely very into sculpting in this au, maybe dabbles a little in painting - I imagine mezalea to be very heavy on art and expression in general. think you’d especially see lots of pottery and textiles all around the place. He probably also has an interest in some form of like. um. whats the word. Some sort of … fighting. lmao. Specifically thinking of fencing, i had this idea in my head that he’s watched Etho practice outside the palace at some point and is just absolutely fascinated and enamored. by both the practice and etho himself haha.

and for etho… talented swordsman? he is Not washed. i dont really have many ideas for his character in this au To be completely honest, mostly just of his personality. Although, I alsooo think he’s probably not actually from mezalea? I like to draw him with those pointy elf ears, and i think mezaleans are just humans. I cant remember if thats canon or not but um. mezaleans have human ears, so i’d imagine etho’s probably from like.. rivendelle? Is that. What it’s called. The elf guys? Are they elves??? Goodness I cant remember. Grimlands would make sense too since i THINK they’re kind of like. technical engineer guys? but i dont know what species they are um so ,,, yeah,,,,

i think joel’s probably a bit put off by etho at first, mostly just because he’s not super enthused about the idea of a personal guard, but also because the guys a bit odd, you know? but he’s also probably suuuper intrigued by him. he wants to figure this new guy out, and when they start talking a bit more, i think. They are both incredibly charmed by the other. head over heels? possibly.

most of my ideas of this au are just little scenes that are cute and silly but dont follow any main plot. I would love to write some one-shots of some of the ideas i have in the future, but as of right now im experiencing a bout of creative burnout and am busy with the holidays - spending time with family, so… not right now lol!

Platonic Ships Are Important (To Me, Anyway)

A Personal Rant

As a quick disclaimer, I’m aromantic, so a lot of this post will be influenced by that fact.

Shipping, Fandom, and Aroace Discourse

Listen, I like shipping, but there’s something to be said about genuine platonic friendships in media. Relationships that don’t develop into anything romantic, but are still meaningful all the same. I know that many popular ships are non canon queer ships, and I fully support queer ships and head canons, as they are a good way to feel more connected to the work you enjoy. You can ship or head canon whatever you want, I’m not the boss of you.

But it can be incredibly frustrating when I want to consume content of a specific pair, and everything I find is romantic. The problem isn’t that people interpret characters as more than friends, it’s that the only way the relationship between these characters is allowed to be the center of attention is if they’re romantically involved. Even if the friendship is canon and significant in the source, it will often be ignored by fans, because friendships are seen as fundamentally less significant than romantic relationships are.

It only gets worse when these ships take away representation rather than create it. Aroace representation is LGBTQ+ representation, end of story. You can date and still be aroace, but if a character explicitly doesn’t date, then they don’t date. No room for discussion there.

Canon, Romance, and Very Bad Writing

I think a large reason that I tend to latch into platonic relationships in the media I consume is that romantic relationships are often treated as a given. Every major character will be paired off by the end of the story, even if the writer must invent a sea of new characters with no personalities of their own in order to give everyone a partner. Friendships are treated as not very important as long as you’re paired off.

But when the writer takes the time to establish a connection between two characters who aren't together, it feels special. This relationship isn't just there because it has to be, it's there because it actually adds something to the story or character development. Not to say that romantic relationships can't do the same, all the best do, but so many are able to get away with bringing nothing to the table.

The Platonic Love Story and My Ideal Dynamic

Just once, I want a story about two friends who are everything to each other, and do not fall in love. I want all the classic romance tropes, but with no romance involved. I want meet cutes, dramatic third act misunderstandings, and heartfelt declarations of platonic love. Even better if the main pair try dating and realize it doesn’t work for them. I’ve yet to experience such a story, but I can always dream.

TLDR

1. Queer head canons are valid

2. Friendships are not lesser than romances

3. Aroaces deserve representation

4. Romances are often lazily written

5. I want more QPR/ friendship stories

something about haikyuu that a lot of people forget is that it's platonic. the fleeting thought that he was a star, you can fly even higher, with the world on my side/with the world watching, im here, you're the absolute best setter... these are all expressions of love, devotion, trust, awe, and so much more between friends & teammates. isn't that beautiful?

thoughts on Ginny and Harry as a couple?

There are a lot of people who find their romance in HBP forced. I don't think it's forced so much as underwritten, and the books don't get the chemistry quite right (though the movies certainly don't, either). There's potential, but they just don't get enough actual scenes of substance (besides Harry thinking she's pretty or feeling jealous of Dean) for a lot of readers to buy that they're not only in love, but deeply enough in love to break up, get back together, and wind up married.

That's not to say I don't see the appeal. There's a very cool scene in Book 5 where Harry's doing a woe-is-me-Chosen-One act, and Ginny effortlessly puts him in his place about it by reminding him that she was possessed by Voldemort at eleven, which is a rare glimpse into her character and also a great synecdoche for their relationship — Ginny is a grounding presence who, like Ron and Hermione, isn't going to be awed by his past adventures because she knew him before they happened. In that respect, Ginny's probably one of the few women Harry could feasibly wind up with, because he only ever seems comfortable around people (let alone girls) who can see past the Chosen-One schtick and treat him like a normo (see: Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys, Luna, Hagrid). True to type, he doesn't get interested in Ginny at all until she's ditched her celebrity crush and ceased to view him as an idol, because in his heart of hearts, Harry wants to be a normal boy, and it's stressed over and over that part of what he likes about his relationship with Ginny is how normal it feels. He kind of has a horribly supercharged version the celebrity dating problem: after the Battle of Hogwarts, anyone he meets is going to know him first as Harry Potter, Chosen One, Boy Who Lived, and Actually Fucking Resurrected Messiah of the Wizarding World, which is... I mean, it's possible that there are witches out there who could get over that, but Harry's not an extroverted guy, and I'm not sure how he'd go about finding them. Ginny's the one who's been there since the beginning, doesn't need anything about him or his past explained to her, and actually likes him for who he is.

When you look at it that way, it's not surprising he married his high school girlfriend. She's one of the few people still alive who doesn't see him as a demigod.

there are the f/os that teach you to hold you sense of self worth strong no matter how much your family misgenders you because you'll never change their views and you know yourself better than they ever will

and then there are the f/os that teach you to tell the guy you'll piss in their cereal box if they call you a girl/boy again.

both are very good and supportive people who love you lots :D
