Y/N: Can I touch it?
Bucky: Touch what?
Y/N: That.
Y/N: *Points to his metal arm*
Bucky: *Looks at Steve who’s next to him.*
Steve: *Shrugs and hums ‘i dunno?’*
Bucky: Uh… sure?
Y/N: *Lets out a girly squeal and wraps her hands around his metal bicep.*
Bucky: *Looks to Steve again.*
Bucky: Is she always like this?
Steve: Pretty much…
Y/N: *Screams in fangirl and shakes his arm aggressively*

it's lowkey crazy how stucky will have me entertaining about a dozen contradictory headcanons all at once, like
they explored each other's bodies in their old shoebox apartment in brooklyn, two young things learning how to love in each other's arms. they never even kissed before wakanda. they were lovers during the war, stealing secret caresses and breathless i love you's in the darkness whenever they could. they first confessed their feelings post-catws, each thinking their love was unrequited - and surprised to learn that they were, in fact, loved back. they finally tied the knot in wakanda, after bucky got out of cryo, and lived happily ever after in the most unexpected of places: a farm - their farm. cacw never happened at all; one day, bucky showed up on steve's doorstep, with a few fragile memories and only one certainty he was holding onto (steve was everything to him), and now they're living in brooklyn, close to their old neighborhood, building a life together in the most unexpected of places: the future.
and they're all rotating in the blorbo microwave, all together, all the time

Listen I'm actually rooting for normalizing platonic relationships between men but then again it's not my fault that all of them are written like they fuck so

the struggle when you want to go "finally! a story that focuses on friendship over romance!" but then you start shipping them. I'm sorry aro nation (I'm aro) i do like the idea of stories focused on friendship but sometimes the chemistry is just stronger than intended

Platonic Yandere! Steve and Bucky are ALMOST awesome dads because they're constantly bragging on you. They think you're the most interesting person to talk to, they find you effortlessly funny, they love listening to you talk about your special interests, they stare at your art/writing/picture for hours.
They embody the "I LOVE MY WIFE AND KIDS" vibe and are always going "I wish I was home rn :("
They'd be hard pressed to show their colleagues anything about you, in fear of rousing their interest in you, so they're just like "my kid is cooler than yours. no I will not prove it."
THEN when they get home, you come face-to-face with two traumatized soldiers who think children find safety in rules and traditional values.
Your father's word is law, chores are essential to developing skills, privacy is for secretive people only, internet poisons your mind etc etc
Steve's like "I know it sucks being without the internet after having it your whole life, but people were happier when we grew up. There's something to be said about a good book and some music."
And Bucky goes, "Don't look so down. How about we watch a new movie before bed as a treat? We can make popcorn and pile up together. :)"
and you're like "DOES MY FAMILY KNOW IM ALIVE?"

I need. NEED. Y'all to understand that in a MCU captain america au Bucky and Steve would be Steve and Robin. Like. The unhinged amount of devotion? Yes. Soviet torture? Yes.
But it also MUST be understood that Steve is Bucky, and Robin is Steve. DO YOU SEE MY VISION.
Steve, charming and charasmatic, looks out for his awkward but good hearted and mildly unhinged (he's no better) bestie until he goes off to war. Robin, a bit of a weirdo, wants to do something to help fight. She ends up in an experimental program, and getting super strength etc.
She gets shipped around as propoganda. She ends up in Italy. She finds out Steve's unit has been captured. Her best friend, the only one who really knows her, the guy she's probably going to end up bearded by. Her sweet cheese.
She goes to save him.
Against all odds she does. He's strapped to a table and muttering to himself and thinks he's hallucinating when he sees her. But she saves him.
They form a strike team, blow up bases, punch Nazis etc. The war in Europe is almost over. Then Steve falls from a train. Then Robin crashes a plane. They both die heroes.
Except.
Robin wakes up. She wakes up in a world not her own and she's scared and frightened and told she has to fight again except this time she's alone.
And she does. She follows orders and fights and tries to figure out how to live when anyone who would understand her is in their eighties at the youngest or dead. How to exist in a world where the only person, even in their own time, who actually knew her, was dead. Dead for a long time. Deified alongside her by America.
So she follows orders. Until she doesn't. Until fury dies and someone with a metal arm and long brown hair shoots at her but holds their own against her enhanced strength. Pushes her, actually, being broader than her.
And she has allies, yes, but when it comes down to it, it's just her and the Soldier. Fighting under the overpass, and there's something about the Soldiers brow, the possible cowlick on his hairline where his long hair should be parted, that pings something in the back of her mind.
The mask slips off. And Robin thinks she's died again.
He doesn't recognize her, but his eyebrows scruntch together in a way she's known for what feels like eons. She's missed him.
A long time ago, longer for some than for her, he had been strapped to a table. She saved him then. She is going to save him now.
On a helicarrier, she can't bring herself to fight him. She knows him, how many hits he's taken, and even after whatever's been done to him, she knows him. Knows he's confused and scared and fighting it. Whatever's taken him away from her.
He knows her too. She can tell by the way he hesitated, pulls back. He's in there. She just has to find him.
She falls.
A strong hand pulls her out of the river.

Beating a Hasty Retreat
This is a fill for yesterday’s   @flashfictionfridayofficial   prompt  [#FFF262 Run Far and Fast], as well as my  @julybreakbingo    prompts  G2 - Hurt/Comfort  & G3 - "I can't breathe."
Fandom:  MCU/Marvel Pairing:  Bucky Barnes  & Steve Rogers Rating: General  Tags:  Pre-War,   Teenagers,  Turf Wars,  Friendship, Hurt/Comfort Summary:   Bucky tries to get Steve to safety after his pal manages to start yet another fight.  They don’t quite make it.   Word Count: 410
“I can’t breathe,” Steve wheezed,  bending over like an old man as they rounded the corner, just a few blocks from home.   Bucky reached back and grabbed his hand to tug him along.
“C’mon, Stevie,” he panted in reply.  “We just gotta get to the other side of Navy Street. You know they won’t step a toe on our territory.”
The Rivoli was supposed to be no man’s land - somewhere you could go catch a flick no matter what neighborhood gang you belonged to.   But Steve just couldn’t keep his nose out of other people’s business, which meant Bucky had to wade in and pull his best friend out of yet another mess he’d gotten himself  into; the Hardy to Steve’s Laurel once again.
Bucky had gotten a few good licks in, but when a couple more boys from the Sixth Avenue gang showed up,  they decided to make a run for it.  “Look, there’s the school,” Bucky pointed out hopefully. “Good old PS 307.”
They dodged a trolley making its way down Sands;  if it had been going the other way, Bucky would have risked the conductor’s ire and tossed Steve aboard while it was still moving.   As it was…   “Okay, make a break for it, pal.   I’ll keep ‘em busy.”
“Not without you, Buck,”  Steve replied, chin jutting out as he wiped at the blood dripping from his nose.    Bucky heaved a sigh;  Steve was ten pounds of stubborn in a five pound bag.
“Fine.” Bucky rolled up his sleeves as he prepared for a scrap.
“Do I want to know how the two of  you got these, James?”   Miz Rogers said sternly as she applied a liberal amount of Mercurochrome.    Bucky hissed in pain; the cure worse than the injury.   Steve was sitting next to him, holding a cold cloth to his eye; no money for steak in the Rogers household.
“Probably not, ma’am,” Bucky answered honestly; she let out a huff of amusement in reply.
“It was my fault, Ma,” Steve broke in.  “We were at the moviehouse and these two fellas were teasing a girl something awful. I told them to lay off and well…” he shrugged.
Miz Rogers shook her head, but a ghost of a smile played around her lips.   “I assumed it was something along those lines.” She smoothed Bucky's hair back out of his face.  “  You’re a good friend, James.”
Bucky’s cheeks heated at the compliment.   “Thank you.  Stevie’s worth it.”

Nono, you see, it's logical to say character A is in love with character B, even when the setting doesn't allow them to be. And it's also logical for them to only have a close friendship. Both interpretations work, but why does romantic always seem to be the preferred choice?
It has nothing to do with the 'I love you' s vs the 'I'm in love with you' s, it's not even about whether or not there's kissing. With real people, even when you're incredibly close with someone, you can still tell the difference between a platonic and romantic relationship, although that line can often get blurry and hard to see. And yet, how could someone who'd go to hell and back for their friend still see that line so clearly and decide they're not in love with anyone?
It's because they know they aren't attracted to that person in that way. You want to kiss them, you want to tell them you're in love with them, or you don't.
Characters don't have that consciousness. The only thing that guides them is our consciousness and ideas.
Characters are fluid in that way.
But, no, sit down, I'm not done--two things: characters exist within a limited time frame and, oftentimes, romantic relationships are seen as superior to platonic relationships. Bc you only get one soulmate, right? While friendships happen all the time.
Now, I'm not gonna get into whether that should be the status quo, but nonetheless, it's that way for many people, myself included.
And when you see a character being so close with another one--whether it's because they're willing to die for each other, because they trust each other so much more than anyone else, or because they went through traumatizing events together, etc.--then obviously, your mind will guide them to a scenario where they're in love, where they're soulmates, regardless of what the author wanted. You see that special connection and want to differentiate it from all the friendships. "It's more than that. More than friends." And you can't really agree with the story writer bc that character only gets so many chances at having a soulmate. You won't see who character A will meet in 20 years. You won't see it if they miraculously meet their soulmate the day right after the epilogue.
So, you want them to be in that special relationship that's much more than the friendships with the other characters, you can give those characters that because it's not like they'll tell you, "hmm, I don't actually think about kissing B all the time,", and your characters exist within one story, within one limited time frame. Character B might as well be their soulmate, bc as far as anyone knows, there is no one else they could be closer with.
